Did the prefer catch the bit where his cousin clearly cheated? It was a good thing that he was wearing the head gear. "You cheated!" Bentley accused as he got up too. "You're not allowed to hit back until it's your turn at attacking." Bentley aimed a kick at his foot. |

"It's NOT defense if you attack before I do, now stand up, proper so I can attack you again and you can try defending." Did Blaise want to be on defense at some point? Nah, he was having waaay more fun coming at Bentley so long as he didn't knock him in the nose again. "Ready or not, here I come!" And with that warning, Blaise lunged at his cousin again, ready to wrap him in another bear hug unless he stopped him. RAAAHHH!! |
3 This was no longer even about practicing self defence. This had become all about the desire to take down the dummy and beat it into an inanimate pulp. For a boy who frequently found himself spoiling for some sort of physical conflict or altercation, being placed in a room with dummies they were allowed to beat up was about as close to fulfilling that urge in a socially acceptable way as it was possible to get. Immediately after jabbing his elbow into the ribs of his animated-but-non-sentient attacker, Daxton had darted around the thing and threw a full force punch right at the ribs from this side too. But it had whirled around, set on getting him, so the punch had had less of an effect than Daxton had hoped for, though it still threw it off balance. He ducked under its reaching arm and went for the kill - figuratively speaking, of course, because it was a dummy and could not be killed - as he straightened, and launched a kick up right between its legs. That seemed to do the trick, and at once the dummy started to teeter, but Daxton was not done. Just as before, he kept hitting the thing, in the solar plexus, the face, nose, eyes, ears, wherever he could reach. Even once it had fallen to the floor, the Ravenclaw did exactly has he had done with his last dummy victim and launched himself on top of it, pinning it into the ground and landing punch after punch, gritting his teeth as all the pent up aggression poured forth for the second time that day. It was exhilarating, and even moderately easy to look past how mind-numbingly simple it was to take the dummies down. But Daxton was not thinking about that. He was quite busy laying into the now-still dummy, letting his fists do all the necessary communicating, completely oblivious to the warning signs of pain in his knuckles. |
Post 4 His world has flipped over. Or at least that’s what it looked like. He looked down-- or in this case up -- at the dummy, which now gripped his ankle. "Leggo!" he hollered, feeling the blood rushing into his head. What can he doooo? He tried using his other leg to kick the dummy in the face, but any blow that would land only reaches the dummy's chest. Also they werent very strong either. Much too disoriented he was. He then tried to reach out with his arms and do something against the dummy's lower half, trying to punch at the legs. Feeble hits at best. "Hey aint this exercise supposed to be trying to free from a wrist grab?" he grumbled at the dummy as he dangled upside down. Some of the talkers of the class said to talk the attacker down. Well he's trying it now. "How can I even do that when you're not even holding my wrist??" For a moment, it seemed like the dummy was considering his statement. And then he felt it seize his wrist. .... but didnt let go of his ankle. So there he was, suspended in the air by his wrist AND his ankle, like a onesie being hung out to dry. ................. ........... ....... .... .. "Haaaalp" he yelped. |

Bentley was sure that not every attacker would be smarter than him. Stronger and bigger maybe, but definitely NOT smarter. Plus Blaise knew that he was the smarter cousin right???? Good, glad that they were clear on that. The second year shook out his shoulders, then his arms and legs and briefly bounced on the spot for a bit. He needed to ensure that his body was limber and ready for Blaise's attack. As Blaise lunged at him Bentley jumped out of the way. It was a bit less graceful than he had hoped but it got the job done. He was hoping that whatever speed Blaise had charged with would thrust him forward enough so he'd lose his balance. Then Ben would get him. |
Post 2 Azura was trying not to whimper but it still had a hold of her wrist!! Eeeeekkkkkk!!! Let go evil Dummy!! She tried tugging on her wrist again, but it wasn't working! The thing wouldn't budge! Okay.. Step forward! "Ouch!" She whimpered as the dummy tried to hit her again! Grrrrr Merlin!! She jabbed her elbow into its ribs and finally!! Freeeeedommmmm!! Ugh! Azura stumbled back a little and eyed the dummy again. "Okay, let's try this again.. And you be nicer all right?" She took her stance again.. |
Post 3! Scarlett knew that it was only a matter of time until the dummy struck back - and sure enough, just a few seconds later, it was back in full attack mode. Fighting for your life was EXHAUSTING. She'd barely had time to catch her breath and it was coming back at her again! UGH. It grabbed her wrist and this time, Scarlett yanked her elbow HARD and the dummy's wrist was was locked. This time, Scarlett KARATE CHOPPED the wrist of the dummy and it let go of her in an instant. So she just really had to put her full strength into it, huh? That was what got the results! |

How...even....? Just...what? Blaise tried to pull himself into a sitting position, rubbing at the areas that hurt. "I don't see avoiding on the board. Who's cheating now, eh?" Answer was Bentley, in case he missed that part. "Decided you couldn't take me if I got a proper hold of you or are you just chicken?" Couldn't stand there and take it like a man, that was th only reason he could think of and that reason hurt. Ow. |
Text Cut: Zeke the fanboy Fortunately for Zeke, Hirsch couldn't read minds and therefore, couldn't pick up the part about a head slap. No level of professionalism would have stopped him from making comments, even if he was proud of how the boy was doing so far. You know, until he fell. Instinct had called for the Defence Professor to move forward a bit to make sure that he was okay but........ something told him no. No, he had to see how the boy got out of that, because he will, there was no doubt about that. When he did, the man smiled and gave him a nod before looking out towards the rest of the class. Uh. So this was chaos, wasn't it? Hirsch had full confidence in the padded clothing he'd provided but even that couldn't stop him from worrying about the state of half of these students, especially considering how violent some of them were. And to think he wasn't even a worrier. Merlin, he needed a good strong cup of coffee after this. "YOU HAVE TWENTY MINUTES LEFT, CLASS!" And try not to kill anyone, okay? Please? OOC: I'm absolutely loving all these posts! *cheers you all on* You guys have FOUR HOURS left from the time of this post until class is over ^^ |
4 All in all, it was fair to say that Daxton had not done a very good job in staying fully on task in either of these activities. He had done as instructed for the first task, and taken the dummy down using the pressure points, even if he had gone further than he needed to and kept beating the thing into the ground, but this time he had not done at all as asked, had not practiced getting out of the wrist-hold, and still had zero intentions of doing so. In fact, he had not even donned the safety gear. And yet that had not stopped him from taking down a second practice dummy. Were Daxton not so preoccupied in punching it with all his might, he might have wondered if he might be able to come back to the practice room in the future - perhaps on a regular basis - to do just this. But then he would have quickly dismissed the idea; though this was much more appealing than most things at Hogwarts, bar reading and researching, it was very quickly losing its novelty. The dummies were quite pathetic opponents. Still Daxton punched, though his energy and adrenaline were starting to drain, the blows were coming slightly slower (though with no less force), and he was starting to feel it in his knuckles, elbow, and foot, where each had connected with the dummy. He did not mind. Perhaps his lack of holding back might be a sign for anyone in the room that he was not to be messed with. There were already one or two people in attendance that had tried intimidating him before - others had already graduated. As soon as that thought struck Daxton, another surge of anger went through him. He went with it, and pummelled the practice dummy with greater fervour once more. So maybe this class would not be all bad this term. But he still did not like Hirsch. Or his whistle. |
Post 3 Even though Janelle knew this wasn't a matter of life and death, she became more determined to break free from her dummy attacker. Some day this situation might happen for real and Merlin forbid, if it did, she wanted to be ready. The first thing you had to do in a dangerous situation was try to remain calm and think clearly. If you didn't have time to think, you had to react quickly and appropriately. Even though the situation wasn't real, the idea of being restrained in any way, did not sit well with Janelle. Feeling the dummy's hands digging into her wrists, she went for her second attempt at freeing herself. First, Janelle pretended to stop struggling for a brief moment. Contrary to what the professor said, she wanted the dummy to think he was in control. Suddenly, Janelle jerked her elbows down toward the ground with all the force she could muster. Before the dummy could react (could they react?), she pulled her arms upward as hard as she could. This time, it worked. Her arms broke free from the dummy's grip. Janelle knew she had a split second to make her next move, before she would likely be grabbed again. She had to make it count. |
Post 3! Azura faced off with the dummy, her limbs were still shaking and she could still taste blood in her mouth, her heart was beating quite rapidly and she was sweating slightly.. Was this how it felt to face an attacker? Sore, bruised, banged up and yet still trying to fight it off? Maybe the Professor was right? Maybe everyone did need to learn this stuff? She was just facing off against a dummy and yet she had an intense need to make it out of the class alive! She shrieked slightly as the dummy grabbed at her aching wrist again and she grit her teeth.. before.. Step forward! She moved her small body to the side to dodge an attack, and slipped a little, but managed to get the step.. Okay.. now.. Elbow down!! "OWWWWWW! She had yanked on her wrist as she moved her elbow down and now hot pain was shooting through her arm.. Merlin!! At least it wasn't her nose!! |
Post 4 Scarlett knew that the dummy would fight back, AGAIN, since it didn't seem to want to give her any breaks at all. And it was coming back with a VENGEANCE. It ran at her and got a good grip on her, skipping the wrist and going RIGHT into the bear hug. So that was how it was gonna be, huh?? Scarlett crossed her arms and pushed, trying to push the arms of the dummy away from her. When she did have enough room to move, she elbowed the dummy right in the stomach nice and hard. She was getting good at this! Maybe she DID stand a chance if someone tried to attack her! |
4 Katherine realised that she might not get such a chance again, so she had to practise all that she could here, which included hitting higher. The dummy was somewhat stupefied still by her groin kick (which would earn her a black belt hehe), so she QUICKLY took her guard (not like professionally at all, but she copied the popular stance in the movies). Then, with a deep breath, she made a "HIYAAAAAAAAAAH!" sound as she hit it in the neck. AAAAAAAAAARGH! Then, without wasting any time, she hit it in the EYE and then went on to the NOSE. She wasn't strong, but she was FAST, and that counted for something, right? She probably didn't have a good technique either, but it was a matter of experience anyway, wasn't it? Anyway, neck-eye-nose was done, and she considered herself a WINNER. And a deserving one, too! Her dummy had stopped too, which meant she was successful, right? RIGHT! Only, one last thing... She quickly looked around to see what the professor was doing. When she was sure he wasn't looking at him, she quickly but lightly hit the dummy in the ear. The professor had called it exact after all, and she HAD TO. |

He let go of Tory in that second and covered himself. Which all that did was make his hand the target and it hurt still. "Okay that was good" Low Blows were Low. But effective. |
Post 4 Janelle had a feeling that the dummy was not going to give up quite so easily this time. No Mercy. That was her battle cry.........not in life, mind you.......but for the purposes of this exercise, she had to give it her all. The dummy was surprisinngly fast because as soon as Janelle had freed herself, it was coming for her again. Going with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" idea, Janelle launched a repeat kick to the dummy's groin. This time though, the dummy blocked her kick. She hadn't seen that coming and now had to come up with a Plan B. Apparently Plan A was not going to work this time. Using her "think fast" mentality, Janelle faked a second kick. When the dummy reacted, she went for the eyes. Doing her best Three Stooges imitation, she spread two fingers and poked them straight in the dummy's eyes. All she needed was a brief hesitation. When the dummy staggered slightly, Janelle aimed a kick right for the solar plexus. Janelle had the dummy on the ropes now and she was going for the knockout. When it doubled over from her kick, she gave her attacker a chop to the side of the neck. Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier! Janelle had brought the dummy down, but she was not celebrating this time. She was sure that he would get up at any moment. What could she do to keep him down? |

Tory really like this. He wanted to try it once more. Figure out more ways to force Dante to take steps back as opposed to himself having to run away. But. "Do you to give it a go now. I'll grab your wrist." Not sure if that would be as effective since he was much shorter than the Slytherin, but still. He was tricky and would go for the groin, but he wasn't THAT rude. |
Post 4 Quote:
"Yeah sure. I will give it a go" Well now Dante had to think about what pressure point he wanted to attack. Maybe the Solar plexus this time. It was different from the neck, temple and groin. So yeah lets go with that one. |
Post 4 Quote:
He even raised his hands just a little bit because well Tory was already holding Dante's wrists a pretty low point. He wouldn't be able to bend the young boy's hands down to snap them away. Then the thoughts just started to swarm into his mind. Where would Dante go to escape and create distance?! What would he hit at? His neck, his temples, knees? GAH He didn't have Head or Foot Gear on!? Please don't go for his Face or Feet Dante!? |
Post 5 Quote:
The whole point of it was self defense. "You're being a sore loser." Bentley said crossing his arms across his chest. His smirk was still very much in place. "I decided that my attacker wouldn't be smarter or quicker than me." Exhibit A, Blaise Lyle Bellaire on the ground smarting in places. "Hahahaha!" For good measure and to make sure that he really did win, Bentley walked over and went to poke Blaise on the nose again. |
Post 4 Azura was trying not to cry as pain shot through her arm! Tears, blood and sweat came with fighting off an attacker and she was going to do it.. she was going to get this right!! She brought her elbow down properly this time.. wincing only a little bit as she then shot her arm up, and then.. another well placed kick to the ground had her arm released and she fell down onto the floor groaning slightly.. Dear Merlin, please don't make her get up right now!! She looked up at the Dummy and whined as she heard they had a few more minutes! She was in painnnn! Could she stop now? Her face still hurt as did her wrist!! Though she had done it.. Once!.. Mostly.. |
Post 4 - Main Activity Now that she was free again, from a wrist hold or anything else, Olivia was going to be trying her darndest in keeping herself that way. She just had to survive against her wooden opponent until the end of the lesson when the professor let them go from their adventures. Speaking of said professor, his voice rang out around the classroom, alerting them to how much longer they had until the end of the class. 20 Minutes...she could do that. Or maybe not, the dummy back at her and attacking while she had been distracted. The Ravenclaw tried one of the moves he hadn't gotten to yet. A knee to the would-be groin of the dummy however it had already went for a hug around her. "Hey...no cool..." Olivia reprimanded as she kicked at it while she was lifted. The girl going for the neck as well. A lucky strike in the groin area seemed to do the trick as she was suddenly dropped, falling with a "Umph," to a seated position on the floor. |
Post 5 Quote:
He took a step forward and brought his elbow down towards the floor at the same time, then shot his arm upwards as quickly as possible. Then tried to kick the back of his knee. It was something. |

Tory didn't to have much time to think it over. As Dante's leg sweeped behind him and kicked his knee forward. Forcing Torrance fall to his knees. Dang. That was quick. Really fun though. The boy started to giggle a little bit from the excitement that came over him. "You're fast." He spoke calming down from his giggling. "That was tons of Fun!" He hopped back up to his feet. Then looked at Dante. You think He can get Tall like that someday? |

"You're coming with me, ya'rrrr," Davie grunted in a mean-guy-turned-pirate type of way. He didn't let go of her wrist, because that was the point of his part of the assignment. Davie did kind of raise his eyebrows at Ariadne though, in case she needed a signal to break away. Then she was talking her steps out loud and he almost laughed again. "Yes," he attempted to talk out from the side of his mouth. "But like, move your arm like...." he quickly demonstrated with his own arm, stepping closer and then letting go of her wrist, as though their roles were reversed. "Do you want to try again?" But hey, he'd did it! Hand-to-hand DADA wasn't so bad. |
