DADA Lesson One - You Wanna Fight While your everyday classroom would be set up with desks, chairs and maybe even an indication as to what the lesson was going to be about, this classroom was different. The chairs were gone, the desks had vanished and the only ‘new’ thing about this class were the two boxes sitting by Professor Hirsch’s desk. One box, sealed, was sitting on the floor by the desk and the other, open and empty, was sitting on the man's desk itself. class progression: - How would you defend yourself against an attack without your wand? OOC: Please make sure you're familiar with Hirsch's rules as well as the SS site rules before posting. OOC: Class has already started but you may still jump in if you want to! Please don't post your charrie arriving, simply pretend as though they were there the entire time. |
Rachel peeked into the DADA classroom. Was she too early? Her eyes settled on Professor Hirsch and decided she wasn't very much early because he seemed to be waiting on his students. She stepped into the room, observing the boxes curiously. "Hello, Professor.'' She smiled politely as she still watched the boxes. "I'm already curious about this lesson.'' After greeting Hirsch, she strode off to find herself a cushion. She decided on one at the center of the class and not too much to the front. After she read the instructions, the Eagle got out her quill to write up her name tag before sticking it neatly to her clothing: Quote:

Azura walked into the classroom and looked around, where were the chairs and the desks? She blinked her purple eyes a bit before shrugging! It actually worked out better for her! The less stuff in the way, the less she had to trip over!! She waved shyly at the Professor as he leaned on his desk "Hello Professor" came her soft voice, before heading over to a cushion and picking up a name tag! She carefully wrote Quote:

CUSHIONS. Rooney fought the urge to bounce on all of those that weren't taken yet to find the best one for his derričre, and instead ran for one in the middle of things and skidded onto it on his knees. And...across a little maybe taking out a few more of the cushions in his process. No matter. No one harmed, yet?? Ah, never mind. He was mainly just excited that he wasn't having to sit in a classroom with someone who had let Blaise Bellaire BEAT him in a duel. This Professor probably knew nothing of that and Rooney would prove himself worthy of this class. He was going to prove that he could do this better than Blaise bloody Bellaire. "HI PROFESSOR. I'M -- oh. One second!!" The third year grinned, picked up a name tag and wrote down his details before pinning it to his chest and finding the perfect position where no light was catching it and blurring out a portion of his name. He didn't want someone to misread his name as Rodney, for he was not a Rodney. He was a Rooney and his Mama had named him that was for a reason. Because she liked kangaroos, thank you very much. Growing up around muggles had been hard with their assumptions that he was named after a guy who kicked a ball with his feet and, from Roo's own research, had the hairline of an elderly man in his twenties. Unfortunate. |
It was not too surprising to walk into a room where there were no chairs or desks. It happened often enough at Hogwarts. It usually meant that something exciting was going to happen as part of that lesson. That was especially true for Defense Against the Dark Arts. It was a class that Olly liked, and he was looking forward to meeting the new professor. He hadn't really gotten to know the old one very well, so he didn't miss him much. Sure, he was a good professor. But this guy would be too, otherwise he wouldn't have been hired, right? Right. For one wild moment, Olly thought the nametags on the cushions were actually the names of the cushions. That would have been interesting, but the actual reason made a lot more sense. Olly selected one on the far right, not next to anyone in the room. He didn't know any of them, except for that one boy who he would not want to sit next to anyway. "Hello Professor," he greeted. What was his name? He wasn't wearing a nametag. With that thought, Olly picked up the one on his cushion and took out his quill before scribbling down his name and sticking it on the front of his robes. There. Quote:

Abby entered the classroom and saw the intructions and took a tag and wrote down Quote:

Defence Against the Dark Arts had quickly become one of Daxton's... more appreciated lessons, last year. That meaning, it was not one that the Ravenclaw had decided to regularly skip. But today he was reluctant, because this was a new set-up, new rules... but ultimately he had to get used to an entirely new professor, when he had been content enough with the old one. This was stepping into an unknown, and Daxton did not like it one bit. He was already in a foul mood and very much closed off (more closed off than usual, at least) before even reaching the classroom. Daxton stepped into the classroom, predictably (perhaps to anyone but the professor, first years, and new students) barefoot. His shoes were shoved in his bag with his robes, but his notebook was already in his hand, so he did not have to wrestle it free. The second year narrowed his eyes at the set-up of the room, then met the new professor with a harsh glare, which he held before bending down to pick up a nametag from a nearby cushion. Moving off to the very side of the room, Daxton sat himself at the foot of the wall, leaning up against it and avoiding the cushions or mats. Using his pen, he filled in the nametag in a similar manner to how he had done so in Airey Flamsteed's lesson - though this time it was purely out of a desire to be difficult and show his already-formed disapproval of the professor - before sticking it on his chest. Quote:
With a scowl fixed firmly on his features, Daxton turned his attention to his notebook, opening it up and immediately beginning to doodle inside it. |
Entering the classroom, Esme smiled. "Hello, Professor!" The lack of desks and chairs did not surprise her at all since that was pretty standard for this subject, though she could understand the First Years being confused. Azura, Rachel, and Abby all got waves before she took a seat on one of the cushions. Right, time to make a name tag: Quote:
|
Kitty followed her fellow students into the Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom. Her dark hair was combed as usual as were her nails painted black. "Hello Professor!" Kitty greeted the professor cheerfully, and then went to sit down on one of the very comfortable cushions. She took the name tag and followed the instructions that were written on the board. Quote:
|
Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, please. This was going to be yet another class where they would climb walls and jump to the space, wasn't it? Katherine knew DADA had to be practical, but somehow she didn't have good feelings at all, especially after those two classes. She was sure she would hate this class too, and she would be scarred for life once more. She wouldn't be surprised if they were required to fight a bunch of dementors, to be honest. However, because it was a new professor and all, she still put on a wide smile and checked her hair. She had worn comfortable clothes, of course, and had even emptied her bag except for the DADA book and notebook. "Hello, professor, class mates," she said as she greeted the man and then her "friends." Haha, yep, this class was just going to be complete chaos, the mattresses were a clear sign of it. How could people sit on them, even? They were a w f u l for the back, didn't they know? Ugh, even though she would sit at the front normally, this time, she casually picked the mattress in the middle by the wall in the right side of the room. If chaos ensued, she didn't want to be right in the middle of it. Then, taking out her quill, she wrote her name: Quote:

It was time for a DADA lesson, and Rula was actually a little bit excited, if only because she was curious to see how different it was from Durmstrang's actual Dark Arts lessons. It was a class she hadn't enjoyed all that much anyway, so maybe she'd like this one. Who knew. She entered the classroom, noting first the absence of desks and chairs and then noticing - oh. The professor guy....was quite handsome, wasn't he? Hehehehehe. Yeah, he was... Er. She should...probably not just stand here. Fortunately it was only a few seconds, right?? Maybe it'd just seem like she was looking at the room. Or the mysterious boxes. Yes, good. She wasn't blushing, right? Right??? "U-Um...hi, Professor," she finally managed with a shy little smile as she quickly moved to a cushion in the front. Obviously the best seat in the room. Yes. Oh, right, name tags. Quote:
|
Dora was not nearly as excited about this DADA class as she had been the previous year... for OBVIOUS reasons. And this dude, this new professor, had HUGE shoes to fill and Dora Umbridge would be judging him. Harshly if need be! HMPH! Putting on a smile, mostly fake, she entered the classroom and paused. "Good day, Professor. I hope you're well, " Dora said in a sickly sweet voice before moving along to plop onto a mat near Daxton. Yep. Eyes on the professor dude. JUDGING. Quote:
|
Dante was not sure what to make of the new DADA prof yet. But hey it was DADA so of course Dante was going to attend. Might not be his best subject but he enjoyed it. Dante stepped into the room looked around for a second and just shrugged. Seeing no desks or chairs in this class was becoming expected for him. It was almost as minimalist as his office. But not quite. "Hey Professor Hirsch" Dante then grabbed a cushion and walked towards an empty mat in the somewhat back and took a seat. Oh look more name-tags. Maybe he should write a fake name. But nah, he had his fun with those in his first year. Quote:
Well maybe he would have a tiny tiny bit of fun. Though they guy already knew his name. Unless he had THAT bad of a memory. |
Mentions of Katherine, Azura, Kitty, Daxton, Abby, Rooney & Rachel Quote:
She was still rubbing her shoulder when she grabbed a cushion and a nametag. Most of the students here thus far were her house mates. There was Katherine, Kitty, Azura and three other Ravenclaws she hadn't met yet. And of course, Rachel. "Hey Kitty, Az, Mossy!" She greeted them all at once with a huge wave, and then waved at the other three Ravenclaws. So what if she didn't know them yet, they were her house. None-to-delicately Haddie tossed the cushion in the open spot next to Rachel and plopped down on it with all the grace and subtlety of her entrance. "I need to stopped doing that," she announced, giving her shoulder one last rub before digging in her messenger bag for her quill and ink. Violet glitter ink this time, because it was fun. And it sparkled. Quote:
|
Chloe wasn't disinterested in DADA but it wasn't her favourite subject by a long shot. It was less theory and more wand work in a class than she would have liked because, well, she liked to read. But at least it never seemed to overwhelm her like some of the more practical classes here. She wandered into the room with her hair all in her face. She swatted at it so she could see a little better and had to stifle a scoff. What was with professors and desks? Why did they hate them? Students didn't want empty classrooms or cool cushions or anything avant garde. They were there to- Oh my merlin. Her little twelve year old eyes bulged when she saw the new professor. And his face. Mostly his face. Were faces even allowed to DO that?! Her face flooded bright red rather unprettily. And she stood looking at his face for a beat too long before she scurried to her seat and flopped down in a nearby cushion. Quote:
|
DADA. The subject had been a blast last term. Not only had she enjoyed the lessons but the dueling club was even better. It had pushed her to excel and surpass her own expectations. Was she ready for this lesson? Sure. A new professor. Not so much. Entering the room she had a light grin on her face. "Hello Professor," She greeted quietly. Selecting a cushion in the center of the room, not at all bothered by the lack of desks or chairs the fifth year picked up the name tag and her quill. Quote:
|
Elliot popped his head in looking around the classroom. Classroom? Could he call it that? The desks were gone but there were comfy looking cushions everywhere. He shuffled inside nodding at the man by the desk with a "Good day, Professor." before moving to an unoccupied cushion and settling onto the floor. Glancing up at the board he realized he should be writing his information down. He rummaged for his quill before picking up the small tag and writing Quote:
|
Curious... curious. Jaemin had hurried to this class, clutching his book the entire way and hoping he was remembering the right floor and room. Upon stepping into the room, he stopped dead and blinked at the distinct lack of classroom in the classroom... He very nearly turned to leave, sure he had come to the wrong place, before he caught sight of the board. He wasn't wrong... it was just another weird class. Was this normal here? The small boy pondered this as he wandered toward the desk to peek at the boxes, carefully not straying too close. The professor might get miffed at him... he looked up at the man and gave him a quick little salute before zooming off to claim a cushion in front so he'd be able to see eeeeeeverything. The small boy plopped down to scribble out his nametag in all caps for legibility purposes before slapping it on his chest. Quote:

Kaylee was excited about her first Defense Against the Dark Arts class, she wasn't sure why though. She walked into the classroom and blinked at the lack of desks in the room. Instead there were bunch of mats and cushions on the ground. 'What are we going to do here today?' As she walked further into the room she saw a few students that arrived before she did, and of course Professor Hirsch. The 1st year girl smiled at the professor before saying "Hello Professor Hirsch, my name is Kaylee Harrison." After she introduce herself, she found an empty cushion and picked up the tag that was on it. The curly haired girl glanced up at the board that had the instructions. She pulled out her quill and filled out the tag Quote:
When she finished she placed on her shirt and sat down, to wait for the class to start. |
Ellery flounced into class, eyes wide and smiling. She had heard great things about the DADA professor - as in "oh my merlin he is SOO good looking!!!" from literally EVERYONE. She hadn't really noticed him at the opening feast - she had been a bit preoccupied with herself - and since then she had been intensively studying the complete works of Edgar Allen Poe, so she hadn't seen him out and about. She eyeballed him as she came in, offering him a quick "H'lo, professor. How are you?" He looked… symmetrical enough, and she could see the aesthetic appeal. However, no swooping sensation in her stomach or flushed cheeks, so she figured she just had to wait it out. She flopped down on a cushion, her hair fanning out behind her, then fixed a nametag to her chest. Quote:
|
Yes. Yes. Yes. Kat did love defense against the dark arts so far. It wasn't Herbology but it was turning into one of her favorite classes. She surely had gotten this love if DADA from Phillp. Or her parents maybe. Or it could just totally be her thing. Skipping up the first floor to the classroom. She bounced on into the classroom bag swung over her shoulder. "Good morning, professor!" Still bouncing as she past the defensive professor. Hmmmm, no desk. They were going to be sitting on pillows today huh? Awesome! Seeing the nametag Kat filled it out and stuck it on her forehead. Hehe. She was so silly sometimes. Quote:
|
Mentions of Katerina The first thing that Trixie noticed as she was walked into the DADA classroom was all the mats and cushions on the floor and the first thing that came to the first year's mind was... SLEEPOVER!!! She wasn't sure what that had to do with Defence Against the Dark Arts but she supposed the Professor had his reasons and there was the man himself, looking all cool and relaxed. Trixie beamed at the man as she skipped by him. "Hello Professor." Finding a mat beside a first year Hufflepuff, Trixie sat down and then picked up the tag and filled it in. Quote:
|
SPOILER!!: Trixie Katerina sat up all straight and proper watching for the professor to start the lesson. Nametag stuck to her forehead. It wasn't long before a Gryffindor girl sat on the mat beside her. The blonde grinned at her, not really paying that much attention to her until...... Haha. Kat was a trend sitter! First and only time that would or has happened. She grinned wider than the first time at the girl. "Hi, I'm Kat!" Pointing at her name stuck to her forehead. Reading her name tag too, the girl was also a first year. Kat beamed. |
Making her way over to the DADA classroom, Brooklyn was prepared for just about anything. She’d gone through enough in there the past few terms that she knew better than not to be ready. Plus, there was still the matter of not quite being decided as to her opinion of the professor. He wasn’t Professor Romanos, and he wasn’t Professor Dakest. That was all she was confident about when it came to him, yet as she’d stepped into the classroom, she wondered. The mats and everything really did remind her of Professor Romanos. “Good day Professor,” she said, giving him a nod as she passed him on her way to a mat, semi-near Hady but closer to the front. She needed a good vantage point to make her decision, after all. Setting her things down before settling onto the mat herself, she pulled a quill out and filled out he name tag. Quote:
|
Defense class! Scarlett was excited for another hands on lesson - hopefully this one wouldn't involve climbing walls, though. She was hoping to just do some fun, easy spell work, really get to KNOW her wand and test how it felt to do all these fun spells with it. "Hello!" she said happily to the professor as she walked in. She took her nametag, scribbled away her name and then placed it on her robes: Quote:
With that, she happily took a seat near the front and waited for class to begin. |
Defense Against the Dark Arts!!!!! This class was going to be AWESOME! Ariadne planned to be awesome at it, too! She'd grown up hearing all about the dangers of the Wizarding World, and she was armed with a wand and ready to defend herself! She wondered what they'd be doing today--werewolves? Grindylows? Dark wizards? She was thinking they were starting out with the BIG STUFF. Maybe they were. Who knew. Ariadne entered the room and immediately began searching for a desk to call her own. Searching...searching...searching... Where were all the desks?! Ariadne glanced down and noticed all the mats and cushions around the room with name tags placed next to them. Hmm...OKAY THEN! Ariadne chose a mat then began getting her name tag ready. After sticking it on her shirt, she glanced up. "Hello, Professor!" she said. |
Hi Haddie! "Hey Haddie!" Kitty answered her energetics friend greeting with a wave and a smile. Then she leaned back on her comfortable cushion and waited for the lesson to begin, feeling lazy and peaceful. |
Charlotte Kettleburn had a mission. Her mission was a continuation of the previous year, in which she would PROVE TO EVERYONE SHE WAS BETTER THAN AVA. She was cheerful about this though. It was fine because Ava was her friend so it was a safe sort of rivalry to have. Not quite the archnemesis she was looking for but STILL. Quote:
She couldn't even DECIDE who to sit by so she just HOVERED in the centre of the room looking EAGER. |
Oliver made his way into the DADA classroom in a fairly good mood for once. He was still sore as ever (not nearly as sore as Kali though), but since he only had to walk up to the 1st floor from the dungeons, he wasn't in nearly as much pain as he was in when he had gone to Astronomy. And all would have been well if there had been desks and chairs like a normal classroom, but no. This class was different. Of course. Oliver knew exactly what cushions meant. THEY MEANT GETTING UP WOULD BE HARD. Thanks, Professor Hirsch. Really. Sighing loudly, Ollie walked past the professor, waved without saying anything Quote:
|
Melbourne Johanson had not even said a word yet. She was just sitting at her desk staring at Professor Hirsch…what was with the Professors here? Was it a prerequisite to be beautiful and have nice faces? Faces that looked so, so dreamy? SHE WAS NOT DROOLING. That was the truth. Nope. Neither was she craning her neck and barely blinking at him. Gosh. His glasses made him look so smart and ugh…he was, just asdasdasd…amazing. Could she try and see if HE was single too? Like she was planning to do with Professor Draper…really, her sister could well with ANY of them and he looked so so so young compared to the other Professors here and that was hnnnnng….amazing. Quote:
|
It was always nerve wracking going to the defense against the dark arts class. Mostly 'cause he wasn't good at it, like most of his classes. He also made sure to wear pants today. No skirts, like Flamsteed said. FOR NOW. Clutching his bag, Lance made it to his usual seat in the defense room BUT HIS SEAT WASN'T THERE. Whyy. Pursing his lips, his eyebrows rose at the sight of the cushions and mats. And a parchment thing. What. One glance up to the front of the room though answered that question. As well as the appearance of the professor. OKAY, sitting down. Squinting at the board, he flopped down on one of the cushions, muttering the words under his breath until he got through it all. SIMPLE ENOUGH. Just a matter of getting his quill and ink out and a few scribbles and then a-- SLAP! on his chest.
|
Defense defense defense defense....! Tenacius bounded into the classroom-- and saw the bean bags. "BEAN BAGS!!!" And off he goes, making a flying leap into the air, twirls and lands bum first smack onto the soft seat. Perfect. ..... perfectly foolish. The Professor was right there! "Hiiiiii..." the boy greeted awkwardly, shy waving and the cutest smile he can muster. And the name tag? Well he'll fill that up with the proper info.... When he could figure out where it popped off somewhere... |
Name tag still in her hand Mel simply stood there watching Professor Hirsch. Yep. He was pretty. She wasn’t even paying attention as she lifted her name tag and smacked it straight onto her forehead….maybe that would distract people from her blushing? And oh…Ace…he was there. She grinned over to the fluffy haired friend and took a seat near him. ”the people here look insanely pretty” she whispered to her friend as she kept looking at the Professor and then quickly scanned the rest of the room. Yep. It was something in the water. |
Mention of Dorm mates, Esme and Hady The visit to the defense training room hadn't given Olivia a clear view of what to expect in the actual classes. Except maybe room design. For as she returned to the first floor corridor they both resided on and stepped inside the appropriate doorway, it was clear they had the same designers. Though technically the classroom seemed more relaxed with mats AND cushions. Professor Hirsch was there as well as a handful of students that included familiar faces such as her dorm mates Rachel, Kitty, Katherine, and Haddie, and the older years she had met already; Esme and Hady. "Hey guys," she greeted them all with a friendly smile before taking a random spot amongst them all. "Hello Professor," the first year then greeted the man before writing out her name tag and placing it on her robes. There. SPOILER!!: Tag Now to see what Defense turned out to be. |
He loved the smell of DADA in the morning, it was grand. What was even better, was he didn't have to wear his stuffy school uniform. Brilliant. Figuring they'd be doing something active, or at least remotely so, Zeke had dresses in trackies and sneakers, with a plain white shirt and his grey hoodie over the top. He only hoped the new Professor wouldn't disappoint, the man had BIG shoes to fill. Sabel was and would continue to be something of a mentor to him. Entering the classroom, the Gryffindor wasn't the least bit surprised that the setup had changed. It usually did. Professor's liked keeping them on their toes. The mats were familiar, and so he tread on them with confidence, the cushions though, he thought were unnecessary. With a smile, nod and a "Gooooood day, Professor," Zeke surveyed the class before picking a cushion on which to park himself. Name tags first though... Setting his bag down beside him and retrieving his quill, Zeke scrawled his details along it and fixed it to his chest, and then to fill the time, he began stretching out his legs. Quote:

Text Cut: Melon and Lance <3 Moving into the classroom, Marsha grinned as happily walked around a few of her classmates. She waved a happy welcome to their Professor as she found Lance - OH, and Melon - sitting close by each other. Which made things easier for Marsha in all honesty. Taking the quickest way through the pillows, the Welsh girl plopped down on a pillow between Lance and Melon. ”Hi Lance.” She grinned at the trousers he was wearing - the Professor had requested comfortable shoes and clothing after all…. and then looked at Melon with a grin. ”Hey Melon.” She said with a smile though… Her badge… Really? Looking at her cousin, she looked at her eye contact and sighed a little. ”Mel…” She poked her shoulder. ”You might want to edit your badge, Melon. You are not your sister.” Sigggghhhh. Honestly. Looking back to Lance, she giggled and rolled her eyes as she filled in her own badge before putting it on her sweater. Quote:

we're so not swooning over the males on the 1st floor. Nope, nope. Okay, yes we are! There was no need to tell Tia twice about Defense lesson; one it was a practical course and a NECESSITY for everything in the Magical World. Two, she'd SEEN him at the opening feast and though she hadn't gotten the chance to personally meet him yet, she wasn't about to miss attending a lesson with a pretty face instructing them. Though she was a bit taken aback by the lack of desks and chairs, but the cushions didn't seem terribly uncomfortable and she guessed they would be up and moving after a short while anyway. Write their names and house and year on a name tag, and stick it to their robes. Wasn't that sort of redundant though to write their houses down when they were all wearing their uniforms with their house crests? Can she change her surname to Hirsch? Except that would be too blatant and he did say no fake names, but it didn't say no to future names. Except she didn't know whether her future name would be Hirsch or Finch yet, but one of them .... Sigh. Except if they turned out to already have a wife like Quigley claimed. Enough with the daydreaming though. Name tag. "Hello Professor Hirsch, welcome to Hogwarts." Tia smiled brightly at the young man, taking a tag, as she took a seat on of the cushions before beginning to neatly fill it out and stick it to her robes, just above her Head Girl badge. Quote:

Henric strolled into the classroom with a smile on his face."How are you, Professor Hirsch?" He greeted the new defence against the dark arts professor. He wondered what sort of defence spells they would be learning today. Henric noticed there were two boxes in the middle of the classroom, one sealed and the other opened. His curiousity perked. Hopefully, the sealed one wasn't a boggart or anything dangerous. But knowing this class, high chance it would be. He headed to one of the available seats at the corner of the room before settling himself down comfortably. It felt nice to be able to stretch his long legs out and hug the cushion whenever he wanted. Heheh. As more students began filling the seats around him, Henric made sure he didn't forget to give them an occasional nods and greetings. He guessed it was a prefect thing to do even though he barely knew some of them at all. He wished he was more like Adi sometimes, sociable and outspoken. Henric sighed, knowing he would find himself minding his own business more often than not. Anyway... Picking up a nametag, he wrote down: Quote:
"Nice..." He grinned, patting it lightly on his chest. |
Quote:
OW THAT HURT LIKE A…..owwwwww. Quote:
Sticking it on her shirt this time so it would hurt her head this time around she just grinned. “he’s cool, he helped me in Astro” she nodded toward Lance. “we were a ball-stealing team” yes they were they were EPIC. |
Quote:
Ilia entered the classroom with a pleasant smile and bowed to the new teacher. "Good day, Professor Hirsch." She greeted as politely as she could and briefly ran her gaze across the board to take in its words. Simple enough. Alright, now where was her person? She scanned the room to see if he had arrived yet , Bingo. Once she laid eyes on him, she swiftly made her way to the mat beside him. Sitting down she smiled over at him brightly. "You look enthusiastic." Her words came with a smile, trying to tease him to put him into a good mood. Name tag.....she picked up the blank object and neatly jotted down what she was asked to. Quote:
|
Its time for DADA lesson. Its one of the lessons she's looking forward to this term. Mostly because of The Professor. Ehem. Speaking of the HAWT Professor, he's already there when she entered the classroom. Hello Professor McSteamy! :loved: And yes she did notice the absent of chairs and desks but that's not important to her. "Hello, Professor Hirsch. Welcome to Hogwarts." She hadn't had a chance to welcome the Professor, better late than never right? The Prefect gave him a curt nod and flipped her hair before she went to search for an empty cushion. She choose the one at the front of the class. Quote:

Dot still wasn't a fan of name tags, and at this point in the scheme of things, she was starting to think that maybe Daxton had the right idea of it. Maybe it made a lot of sense to rebel outright and wear your rebellion on your badge. And then she remembered that she wasn't much for rebellion over silly things AND she was a prefect and meant to be a good example. What a life. Dot nodded politely at the professor as she took her seat on a mat. "Hello, professor." He was too handsome to be trusted with their lives, but then again... so had Dakest. And look, they were all alive, so that hadn't been a terrible decision. She picked up the name tag with a sigh and began to fill it out. Quote:

Katherine! Professor Pretty Face. Right. Good. She could deal with that. Norah gave him a polite smile as she entered, noting with far too much satisfaction that she didn't feel any warmth in her cheeks or ANYTHING, which probably meant they were pink-free. Did everybody see that? TOTALLY CHILL. It was a miracle. Or maybe she'd just gotten enough practice from spending all that time with Yoongi and HIS With name tag in hand, she scanned the room, giving Dot a little wave before plopping herself down on a mattress next to a baby firstie (Katherine). A bottle of purple, broken quill, little bag of sparkles (in case there was an emergency), and single shoelace tumbled from her bag upon impact with the floor, and she gave the younger girl an apologetic grin as she rushed to stuff it all back in again, finally looking at her name tag once she had sat up and blown a curly strand of hair from her eyes with a small huff of air. "Nice to meet ya, Katherine Mary Moss." Katherine Mary Moss. Her name alone was more proper than Norah's entire existence could ever wish to be. Not that she ever DID wish to be proper, but y'know. Theoretically. She looked at her palm to make sure there were no remains of her breakfast left on there before sticking it out for a handshake. Top notch socialization, right? RIGHT. Using her purple ink and a quill that WASN'T broken, she scribbled the necessary information on her own name tag and stuck it to the front of her robes. Nice. Quote:

Janelle was rushing to get to Defense Against the Dark Arts class. She hadn't left as early as she meant to and now she was trying to beat the clock. Entering the classroom, she gave a sigh of relief. She wasn't late, which was good. Looking around, Janelle noticed a lack of desks. In their place, mats could be found on the floor of the room. Walking over to an empty mat, she noticed the Professor and offered her greetings. "Hello Professor", she said cheerfully. Seeing that there were instructions for them to follow, Janelle began to write a nametag. Once she'd finished, she stuck the nametag on her robe and sat down. Taking out her necessary materials, Janelle waited for class to begin. Quote:

It wasn't as if Dima hadn't seen at least a dozen students get jelly knees when the apparently oh-so-attractive Hirsch passed by, and he was prepared for nothing less during his classes. But hopefully, the dramatic swooning and fainting could be kept to somewhat of a minimum in a lesson? Although, being realistic, he had low expectations. This was Hogwarts, after all. He greeted the professor with a light, "Good morning, sir," at his desk before heading to a cushion. It was labeled following Hirsch's guidelines in his scrawl, and then he took a seat near Norah, attempting to guess which folks would be the ones with hearts in their eyes today. Not difficult. At all. |
Carl walked into the D.A.D.A. Classroom, his eyes wandering around. There were no desks or chairs, which was okay for him. His very first Charms lesson was like this too and he enjoyed it very much. What caught his attention however, was the two boxes sitting by Professor Hirsch's desk. "Hello, Professor." He smiled, turning to the man. Then, Carl headed over to find a comfy mat. Choosing one near the front of the classroom, he sat down and looked up at the board. Name tag. He liked those. So, he took out a quill and made his name tag, which he stuck onto his hoodie. Quote:

Yoongi had been wondering how the new Professor was as he walked towards the DADA classroom. He was still slightly sad that Dakest had left however. He had liked him and had learned loads so he hoped these new lessons were going to be exciting as well. As he entered the room and saw that there were no desks or chairs, just mats and cushions, the Head Boy looked around for a few seconds before he spotted the new Professor. ....Soooo... was this one of Candic's dreamy, steamy or whatever she had called them, men? Mweh there was nothing special about this one either. "Hello Professor" he greeted with a smile before he turned around to find a place to seat. As he did so, he spotted Norah sitting with Kath, wearing Ravenclaw robes. He waved at them both because it would be rude to only wave at the Prefect but he did gave an extra wink at Norah as he walked passed her. A moment later he took a seat next to carl and poked him on his shoulder. "So you got Hufflepuff huh?" he said as he wrote his name tag. Quote:
|
Quote:
"Trixie." The Gryffindor replied with a smile and also pointing to the tag stuck to her forehead. She shuffled a little closer to the Hufflepuff so that they could talk quietly. Trixie had no idea how strict the Professor was. "So what do you think we will be learning today?" Trixie hoped it was something exciting like battling Boggarts or Vampires. Never mind that she hardly knew any magic at all. |
Bastien was looking forward to this lesson more than any of the others at Hogwarts because he wanted to compare it to dark arts at durmstrang. Honestly, he didn't think it would hold up, but he could still have fun, yeah? And find out about the dueling club. If Hogwarts had one this year. Please please, Merlin have one. Quote:
What he DID notice was his cousin not sitting. He gently hooked his arm with one of hers and lead her to the front of the class. "Hey, Sharky." He read the name tag, and he spotted people he recognized, but it was Rula that he sat them by since she was already in the front and his BFF. She got brief grins. Pulling out his name tag he wrote with his wand: BastienThat was all the professor needed to know. Speaking of him, the blonde boy inclined his head in the man's direction as a form of greeting. |
Quote:
Except, heeeeyyy. "You forgot your LAST NAME, Bast!" |
Quote:
"I don't want my last name up here. It's on a need to know basis." As in, when the professor needed to owl his parents or he needed to get out of something, then he threw that out into the wind. Otherwise all anyone ever needed to know was Bastien. |
Another lesson without chairs and desks? Huh... With a small shrug to herself, Sam stepped properly into the classroom and greeted the professor before taking a look at who was already there. Almost immediately she spotted a Dora and her Ravenclaw dorm mates, Rachel, Katherine,Haddie and Olivia. Undeterred by the lack of mats in their vicinity, she plopped down on the nearest available mat, and scooted it awkwardly across the floor so that she could sit between them all. "Hey ev'ryone!" Because, friends were awesome. Both red AND blue ones. And...she assumed the piece of papery stuff was for yet another name tag. Surely the professors at Hogwarts could come up with a better solution for learning their names? It seemed a waste, really. Regardless, she dug around in her pockets for her quill and wrote her standard details on it: Quote:

The first thing Brian noticed when he entered the classroom was the utter lack of furniture. Save for a desk. And a box at the bottom. And a box on the top. And a professor man leaning against the desk with the box on it. Oh. Professor man. Yeah. A greeting of some sort should happen at some point. Was it his fault the man was weirdly attractive? Yeah, nope. He was gonna do the greeting thing. "G'morning, professor," the boy grinned, before depositing himself on a particularly fluffy cushion. And narrowly avoiding getting stabbed with a nametag. Pulling a pen from his pocket, Brian scrawled the information that these professor people usually needed on a nametag. Much easier with a pen anyway. Quote:

and Hady. <3 *_____________________* Maggie hadn't even noticed that there were no desks or normal chairs in the classroom. She was too busy looking at the professor there. Ahem. Err. NOT looking of course. She wasn't 12 anymore. She was basically a grown-up. Totally. Mature and all that. Which was why she somehow managed not to giggle when she greeted him. "Hello Professor." See? Totally normal. Mhm. Oh. Wow. What was UP with that classroom? She sent another totally casual smile the professor's way while quickly scanning the room. Ah. Hady. Hi. The Slytherin was the first of her friends she'd spotted so she went over to sit next to her. "Hi." Maggie wasn't really looking at her but was instead still totally casually stealing glances at the professor. She even took her time to write her name tag extra nice to make sure he could read it. |
I assume this is the first class? XD She wasn't late, but she's not early too. When Ava entered the classroom, she noticed that there's no desk and chairs. Just the cushion. Well, maybe all DADA professors didn't like desk and chairs because she remembered that this happened at Professor Dakest's class too. Well, this guy was no Dakest but when she visited him earlier at this term, he seemed... promising. And cool too, but not because of the tattoos... "Hello, Professor Hirsch." The young lioness greeted that man. "We finally met again." Hehehe.... She decided to sit at the front row and wrote her name on the name tag. |
He hadn't been one to enjoy this class all that much as a younger student, but after having been forcefully signed up for dueling last term, he'd come to appreciate it more. It challenged his speed of thinking and forced him to act a little more on instinct and not endlessly thinking through every possible outcome. And so he was mildly disappointed that Professor Dakest had not returned. Entering the room, Thornton tried to hold no expectations for the class this term and pursed his lips just slightly at the cushions on the floor. He really hated those things. Made it hard to take notes. With a nod of greeting toward the professor, he took a seat and leaned the name tag on his leg. Less legible than he'd like, the nametag was then promptly affixed to his robes, just below his prefect's badge. Quote:

We sittin' here (mention of Norah too) Quote:
Blaise walked into the room, paying little attention to the fact they had mats in place of desks and chairs. In truth, it would be something of a problem if he needed to duck but that was what tall, older students were for. Like Dima who was sitting near Norah. Well, choice was clear enough and that's where Blaise planted his butt, right between the two of them--because Norah smelled nice and she was so wonderful and offered him chocolates and was pretty, okay yes. Dima might make a good shield and they had a year on Yearbook together so he sorta kinda knew him which meant this was okay. Oh nametag. Nothing could make him miss his quick quotes quill more. It usually had such wonderful titles to give him when he let it fill these out for him. The boy would have to do it himself. Quote:

Bella thought that she was going to be late for sure, but she made it just in time. To her getting somewhere a couple of minutes before start time was late. She liked to be early for everything that way she could get the best seat. "Hello Professor Hirsch," she greeted with a polite smile, before looking around for a free seat. Wait... where were the desk and chair? Everyone was just standing around waiting for the class to start. She guessed that whatever they were doing required a lot of empty space. She took at name tag and quickly jotted down her name. Quote:
SPOILER!!: Ilia and Henric Once that was finished, Bella stuck it to her chest, before she made her way over to where Ilia and Henric was standing. “Hey,” she said, stopping beside Ilia. “Can I stand with you?” |
Norah caught Yoongi's wink with a grin, waving at him as well. She would've tried winking but it was a lot harder than it seemed like it should've been, so that would've most likely ended in disaster. Waving was alright too, right? Right. Dima got a ginormous beaming smile as he sat near her as well, y'know just for being Dima. But as soon as she opened her mouth to ask him how is holiday had been (and if he'd eaten any good food, which was especially important), there was somebody right between them. Nothing wrong with that, of course, especially when she saw it was cutiepie Blaise, who was thankfully still alive even after all the trouble from before. "Hiya, Blaise." The sixth year stuck out an arm and pulled him into a sideways hug of greeting. Just in case he WASN'T really alive after all the trouble. Sometime problems were invisible, after all. That didn't mean they weren't there, though. So hugs it was. "EXCITED to learn some super duper cool defense stuff?" She'd have to remember to give him that chocolate frog after class. Yes. For sure. |
You guuuuuys <3 Text Cut: Replieeeees <3 Oh, will you look at the time? It was time to get this lesson started! So, with a flick of his wand, Roderik made the door shut itself with a small SNAP! Anyone who was late was going to miss out. Their loss, frankly. Standing up properly, he smiled around at the class before launching with his speech, "Hello one, hello all, and welcome to Defence Against the Dark Arts. I'm Professor Roderik Hirsch and, as most of you should know by now," Unless you were living under a rock. "I'm going to be your new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor." "Before I launch into the main gist of the lesson, I'd like to mention one thing first." At this, Hirsch paused, mainly for dramatic effect. His eyes landed on Ava and he gave her a smile - was she listening? - before continuing, "I've been approached by a few students about, as I understand, a Dueling Club that was running last year. After some consideration and planning, I'm pleased to announce that the club will continue this year as well. All those interested in the club, look out for a sign up sheet after this lesson is over." Was that an exciting enough introduction to the lesson? "Moving ON, I want to ask all of you something." Another dramatic pause and another smirk. "Picture this: you're stuck somewhere, anywhere, and you don't have your wand on you. You're in danger and you need to find your way out of it by using your body, your mind and your surroundings." Interesting thought, wasn't it? "In fact, imagine that you're about to be attacked........ by another human, say. They could be bigger, tougher, whatever you imagine them to be. I want to know............ what would you do to try and defend yourself against this person? How would you put your body, mind and surroundings to use?" Be careful how you answer this, kids. OOC: Firstly, ohmygosh the turnout for this class ;____; The main reason this took a long time to post was because I was too busy fangirling over all of you ugh. Thanks for turning up you guys <3 Secondly, a signup sheet WILL be up for the Dueling Club later on today, as well as rules and more info about it all. Be on the lookout for that! Be as creative as you like with your answers. And I won't be posting until sometime tomorrow. Thanks once again! ^^ |
And now the class had started. Wait... did the Professor just smile at her? Wha.... Why? She didn't call him 'Professor Tattooed man' or villain or.... Hey, she didn't mention anything about his tattooes, right? But then Ava realized that he was talking about the dueling club. "YAYY!!!" She couldn't help with her excitement and threw her fist to the air. ..... Oops? Okay, just forget about that. Moving on to the lesson, the young lioness listened to Professor Hirsch while she's biting her quill.... Picturing the situation. Well, it wasn't such a hard question. She raised her hand and answer. "If in this situation, the bad guy has something on his hand as his weapon, I'll attack his hand first... Maybe kick it or bite it... Also, I'll look around if there's something useful like big rock or wooden stick as a weapon." |
Esme had a feeling that she had made the Professor feel more at ease somehow, and even though she wasn't sure HOW, it was something that made her smile more. Maybe Hufflepuffs were just calming. As the lesson started, she listened closely to what he had to say. This was one of the subjects that she didn't have a passion for but enjoyed. Fighting wasn't her thing, but she did see the usefulness of being able to duel. Maybe she'd join the club, but she wasn't sure. Something to talk about with Juno later... The question he asked them made her bite her lip. After thinking for a moment, Esme raised her hand. "Maybe I'd use my wand to shrink them. Then they wouldn't be so big and scary! If that didn't work, I'd get my dad because he's an Auror and has put Dark Wizards in Azkaban." If her dad could do that, he could deal with a bully. |
Class was starting! OH, HAPPY DAY! ...and there was going to be a club to join, too! COOL. TOO COOL. Ariadne was going to sign up as soon as the list was made available. Mmkay, moving on... The next little speech brought about a range of facial expressions from Ariadne. Stuck somewhere? *eyes widened* No wand?! *eyebrows raised* In danger? *slight jump back* An attack?! *dives under mat* Just kidding on that last part. Ariadne was on edge, though. What would she do?! She guessed running for her life was out of the question. What about wandless magic? That was a possibility, but she was too young for that. OHH, she had an idea! "What about camouflage?" Ariadne asked, raising her hand. "I've heard about people who can make themselves look like ANYTHING from trees to the ground to rocks! If you can manage to figure out really good ways to camouflage, you can make yourself pretty much invisible to anybody or anything!" That didn't really solve the problem of what you'd do if you didn't randomly have any materials to camouflage or if your attacker didn't give you any time to hide yourself. It was a start, though. |
Blaise allowed himself a grin, a genuine grin. "Always Professor, but this is nothing compared to how highly my quill thinks of me." True story. He missed his little buddy and would beg, plea and cry to get it back if he had to--for all the good that would do. His parents' minds were well made up. And it seemed the grin was going nowhere. This was the first all term he'd been excited to answer something in a class that wasn't Muggle Studies because it was RIGHT up his alley. The boy never had his wand. Ever. Like now. Nope. No wand. He'd left it in his trunk.....unless Bentley brought it along like he'd been doing since they got back. "If the person's huge, there's a chance he's slow too so I'd take my chances running, but if he looks REAL FIT I'd try to find a big stick laying around and swing til one of us gives--while hoping it's not me and ensuring my quill is recording what might be my last few moments on earth. Something heroic--something snazzy. I'd be famous in history books after." But he was digressing. "If I can't whack him hard enough where it hurts I'd hope he's got a brain so I can reason with him being SUCH a bully. I'm not exactly big you know and I'm still on that adorable dimpled phase. He'd have to be a rotten jerk--and you saw what happens to jerks at the feast, didn't you Professor?" A glance was spared a both Ravenclaw Prefects before his gaze settled on the man, grin still firmly in place. |
When the door shut Bast focused his attention less on the people beside him, and more on the professor standing in front of all of them. He was new to the school too, but he also knew from Dora that this professor had only just gotten the job. What he didn't know, and had planned on asking about when the lesson was over, was if dueling club would be offered this year. No one was happier about this than this boy. No one showed it less than this boy. His blue eyes twinkled and a smile twitched at the corners of his lips, but he otherwise remained focused on the lesson. That question seemed too easy, but maybe it was just him because other students so far had answers very different form the one he was thinking. Still he was a bit skeptical at where this lesson was leading, and if he would get much out of it. "If we're both wandless, professor." He had his hand up briefly, long enough to gain the man's attention. "And I'm only allowed my body, mind, and surroundings, then I would fight my attacker." A lazy shrug rolled off his shoulders. "The best defense is a good offense." |
Lesson time...another lesson. What was life right now?! So much school work and brain hurting, HE COULD BE SLEEPING RIGHT NOW but oooooh noooo that's not what he was doing that really bugged him right now. |
This was the class she'd been waiting for. After the woman at Ollivander's had told her her wand would be great for DADA, Altha'd been looking forward to the class since the first day. With her posture straightened and her chin up, Altha strolled into the DADA room, glancing around. The room looked quite simple, something she could appreciate. Altha chose a cushion on the floor, and slowly sunk down to it. Crossing her legs, she sat up straight, and took her the name tag. After she'd shuffled through her bag and found a quill, she scribbled down: Quote:

SPOILER!!: TeachyPants "Yep, I'm good." Hadley glanced around, and realized no one else was wearing their robes. She should probably start reading more than just class time and day on those notices. Sheepishly, she shrugged out of her robes and replaced the name tag on her shirt. Class started with an announcement that excited Haddie. Dueling club. Penny had told her about it and how with Kira she'd be great at dueling. Haddie tried to imagine what dueling club would be like, and all the spells they'd be taught. She almost missed the Professor's question. Almost. Haddie glanced around. This had to be a wizarding thing. Because she grew up not knowing anything about wands or magic, so this just didn't seem as tricky as everyone else seemed to think it was. Including Hirsch. She'd dealt with bullies plenty. For herself and her twin. And only a few times was accidental magic involved. "It depends on the surroundings and the other person. You can find something to use as a weapon anywhere, and if you're smart enough you can use their strengths and weaknesses against them. Like if they're big and strong, they probably aren't all that fast and agile, so you can use that." She shrugged a moment, debating on whether or not she should continue with the important part. The lesson her Grandpa told her, that she never forgot. "And fight dirty. You're not in a boxing match," she was echoing her Grandpa's words now, "and there's no such thing as fighting fair when someone's attacking you. Do whatever you can to drop them before they drop you. Unless, um..." She looked down, avoiding eye contact, "Unless you're at school and it's another student..." Yeah, Grandpa got in as much trouble as she did for that one. |
Olly scooted over a bit, closer to Ellery, before the lesson started. Everything was more fun with his sister by his side. So this Defense Against the Dark Arts class should be extra fun! He waved at a few people as they entered. Blaise, Norah, those people that it would make sense for him to wave at. He hoped there'd be some sort of fun activity later. Right, time for the actual lesson part. The announcement about the dueling club was interesting, maybe Olly would actually join this year. The question was interesting. This was a magical school. Weren't they supposed to learn how to do things with magic? Not without magic? But he supposed defense applied in both situations, so the question did technically make sense. Fine, mister professor sir. Olly raised his hand. "I would kick them," he said. "Hurt them just enough to draw their attention long enough for me to get a head start and run away." He knew that he would have no chance in a fight with pretty much anyone. He wouldn't be attacked by a child anyway, so basically he would lose no matter what. Therefore, the best option was running away. After kicking them somewhere it would hurt. |
Ellery wiggled excitedly in her cushion. This…was… a SURPRISINGLY good class so far. She had almost been expected Hirsch to smirk and think his (apparent???) good looks were enough but…this was ALREADY a great class. Talking about defense WITHOUT magic??? Amazing! "Well, professor…you shouldn't fight them violently, or at least not unless they punch you first. The best way is to outsmart them - by distracting them with your words, or convince them that they shouldn't hurt you. Basically, avoid direct conflict, because if you manage to convince them that you aren't a threat, no one gets hurt." |
His cousins were... being his cousins, there was a small child from the Yearbook team squished between him and Norah, slight jabs were being taken at Prefects, and Gryffindors were talking about using big sticks as weapons. In Defense Against the Dark Arts class. So nothing new. Dima felt right at home. Hand up. "Wandless magic, sir?" It seemed more logical to him to work around the 'no wand' portion of that question than think of an actual response. He was a little too sleepy for this right now. |
He was so handsome. Chloe was so distracted by his face. For someone who was so used to telling other people, boys exclusively, how dumb they were she was really feeling very foolish right about now. The blonde could scarcely concrentrate on the lesson. That was how distracted she was. It had to be some kind of lesson tactic: his face. Truly. Nobody, especially no boy, had ever made her face as red and her mind as mushy as this professor was right now. Maybe because he wasn't a boy. He was a man. Ravenclaw!lowkey!swoon When she finally clued back into the lesson people were talking. She panicked. Chloe had missed the question with all of her embarrassing face staring. From what other people were saying she discerned that they were talking about self protection but in what capacity she had no idea. |
I Can't miss this Class!!! Quote:
A Dueling Club? That sounded awesome! Torrance could learn so many more spells from Dueling. Not nothing on his Uncle, but Locking and Unlocking wasn't that that cool. Helpful, but not cool. "What are my Surroundings?" Torrance asked, curious. "If the guy is bigger than me, then tripping him would be the best best solution, but I'm small so tripping him would be hard. If I knew my surroundings I could use some stuff around me to help trip him up. Then he'd fall on his face and get K.O'd. Unless well, the fight was at a Mattress and Pillow Factory." So please Mister Professor, where are they fighting? |
Okay... 1. HIII SAM!! Dora beamed at her FRAND and maybe scooted her mat closer. Heheh. Bestie status right there! 2. CHLOE NEWMAN WAS BLUSHING AND DORA FOUND THIS MOST CURIOUS. In fact, she was staring at her friend. Hehehehehe!!! And now, Professor dude, you are indeed being judged, sir. Aaaand her hand shot up quickly, "Kick them in sensitive areas! Especially dudes! And if it's a girl... well the stomp their foot and then punch them in the nose! " #GRYFFINDOR |
Attacked? By a bigger person? The minute firstie looked around the room suspiciously, as everyone present seemed likely to be bigger than he. How would he fight any of them? He wasn't particularly strong, but he was small and quick... his hand went up. "Chop 'em in the throat and poke 'em in the eyes," he said simply, holding up two fingers to demonstrate his eye-poking abilities. "Then run and find something to hide in before they can see or breathe again." This was how Jaemin would settle pretty much any physical altercation, really. He didn't know enough magic to properly defend himself even with a wand. |
Text Cut: Pre-professor replies Hmm... Katherine had no idea, because she was still arrogant to think she would never find herself in such a situation. However, a question was a question and for the sake of the smaaaaaaaall possibility, she listened to her classmates' answers before rushing to give her own. She liked some of those answers, and some were outright absurd (like that Slytherin boy's). When it was her turn, she raised her hand. "It heavily depends on the surroundings," she said like the arrogant know-it-all she was, "if there were plenty of places to hide, I'd hide first and surprise attack my attacker. However, if I was quite visible, I'd try to make my attacker angrier, because angry people do unwise things in a rush. I'd also try using my own physical ability to its best - and this means knowing my body, of course. But the first thing I'd so would be stealing the object they are attacking me with - if they have one." |
"If I had a Quidditch bat I would beat them up with it!" Kitty began excitedly. "I've never been in a fight before thankfully but I know most people would be knocked out after getting hit with one of those in the head. But if I didn't have a bat then I would go after their vulnerable spots, with guys that would be easier. My nails are always long, I could use them to scratch at my attackers eyes. If he was wearing short sleeves then I could scratch his arms too!" "But I hate violence and I would only fight like that to defend myself or someone else." She felt morally compelled to add this. "And I would never kill anyone, no matter what. I mean I could kill a monster if it was attacking me but I wouldn't kill a human or goblin or elf. |
Text Cut: Nametag Class was finally starting! Of course, Garreth had been far too nervous to say much during his first ever Hogwarts class, but it was starting to dawn on him that there wasn't anything to be afraid of. The first-year anxiously awaited the professor's introduction to the class, making sure his nametag was clearly visible. He couldn't very well have the professor mistakenly giving all his house points to some Hufflepuff student, could he? Instinctively, the boy wrote down all that the professor said, not fully registering the meaning of his words until after they had been put to parchment. What would he do? What a way to start! He'd have to think long and hard about his answer, lest he disappoint the professor. "I would try to hide, professor." he said after some moments. "If there was a way to avoid being spotted in the first place, I would want to do that. Otherwise, I suppose I would try to run away or disarm them somehow." perhaps his answers weren't the most impressive, but the question wasn't about what the ideal reaction would be, it was about what he would have done. "I guess, in the end, it really depends on my surroundings. |
Tia beamed when the professor said he was pleased to be there, but she guessed he didn't know just how pleased she was he was there and sooooo good looking.Nodding as he went into explaining the dueling club would in fact be returning, the seventh year made a note to check for the signups later. She was in danger and needed a way to get out, which her first instinct went to apparition. But what if it was like Hogwarts where apparition wasn't allowed. Sitting thoughtfully for a moment as she listened to her peers before raising her hand, "First I would probably attempt apparition, but if for whatever reason I couldn't apparate then I would probably find some place to hide safely where I could call for assistance to get out of the situation" because, Ravenclaw here . she wasn't for violence which could further threaten her life... |
Finally, it was time for class to begin. Janelle listened as the Professor introduced himself to the class. She wondered how he would compare to their previous professor, who she thought was pretty awesome. And then, Professor Hirsch made an announcement. They would continue to have the Dueling club at Hogwarts. Janelle was glad because she hadn't had a chance to join the club last year. Now she would have the opportunity to participate. Then the professor presented a scenario and posed a question. What a question it was. This one, Janelle had to think about for a while before she raised her hand. "That's a very hard question professor. There are a lot of things that could affect my answer. Is the person attacking me a witch or a wizard? Do they have a weapon? Are they big and slow? My size? What I would do would depend on these things. I'd probably have a split second to make a decision." Janelle paused for a moment to give it some more thought. "If the attacker is my size and don't have a choice, I might look around for something to use as a weapon and try to fight them. If they are very big and weaponless, I might try to run because I'd probably be faster than them. If they have a wand.......that would be a problem. I've been known to talk my way out of trouble, but..........I don't think that that would be my best option in this situation." Hopefully the professor would shed some light on the subject because being prepared was probably their best advantage. |
She just smiiiiled up at the Professor like a fool when he had said her name. Sure, her face was as red as a tomato from the nametag incident and it probably didn’t help that her forehead was still red and slightly sticky….but, wait they were learning about defense? THIS WAS SO HER CLASS. Raising her arm HIIIIIIIGH into the air she just grinned. SHE HAD SO MANY IDEAS OF DEFENSE it was like her thing. Really, it was. Totally her thing. “Professor, I think I would at first try and reason with the attacker,” she smiled – beamed really. “but that doesn’t always work and sometimes the best offense really is a good defense…so I would try to see how the attacker was leading so if they were punching at me from the right I would try to duck left and throw them off balance while maintaining my own balance that way I could stay on the balls of my feet and run to safety” she grinned. “that of course is if it were with a muggle or in muggle areas.” Yep. Statute of secrecy totally needed to be followed here. She was like a defense queen. |
See Dante appreciated a Professor that played along to a name tag. Even if all Dante wrote was The before his name. WAIT The Dueling Club was returning. Now that was cool. Which meant Dante had a chance to redeem his terrible finish to last years one. Which nothing against Thornton and Hady. Which are both awesome. He wanted to win. So of course he would be signing up again. It was fun minus getting his butt kicked by Thornton and Hady like he said. Anyway onto the first question and what a hypothetical question it was. You could surrender. But he never said if the person was rational attacking you. All you know his your are being attacked and you have no wand. "Well since this person is already attacking and i assume it is stronger and faster than me so running away to fight another day would not help. I guess i would do what Dima said wandless magic" Dante would try and not get himself in those situations in the first place. But apparently nobody could be that smart in this hypothetical situation. |
Someone sitting nearby had caught Daxton's attention, and he looked up to see Dora not too far off, in turn looking towards the professor. Daxton watched her for a moment, then finished off the small but detailed drawing he had been before turning his own gaze back to the... professor. He gave no discernible reaction to being called 'Mr. Name'; it was, of course, what he had written on his nametag, and simply kept his eyes fixed on the man up front, expression now unreadable as he looked him up and down but never once directly at his eyes. After a moment, Daxton shifted his position so he was no longer sitting cross-legged, but instead with his feet planted on the floor in front of him, knees bent and acting as a sort of barrier between himself and everyone else in the room, particularly the... professor. Daxton's expression did not change when Hirsch started talking, even when he mentioned the renewal of the Duelling Club. Still he scrutinised the man - this newcomer, this usurper, this masquerader - thinking hard. Though just about what, it was impossible to tell. The hypothetical situation provided sent a jolt of recognition through Daxton, but still on the surface he remained cool, calm, composed, and completely closed off. He had one potential answer instantly, having the... benefit of experience, but the Ravenclaw said nothing, wrote nothing down. Aside from tensing up - a minuscule action only those who were paying close attention might notice - no response came from Daxton in the slightest. The smart thing here was to stay absolutely silent and non-reactive; anything else might lead to trouble of the least appealing kind. And so he simply stared. |
Text Cut: Bast, Char, Professor before start of class Hehehe, the way Handsome!Professor said her name was really lovely. She felt her face warm a little, but fortunately she was distracted from her slightly flustered state when Bast and his cousin Char come over and sit. Rula offered them both a smile and tried to contain her giggles as Char got after him about his name. No comments from her either way, she was just gonna watch them and be amused. Text Cut: start of lesson Oh, and class was starting. Time to focus Dueling club announcement was great, and she glanced over at Bast briefly with a grin before paying attention again. So imagine a situation where she didn't have a wand and was gonna be attacked by some bigger, scary bad person. What would she do? Hmm.... Rula let some other students answer first while she thought, occasionally getting a little distracted by the professor's face, and then finally raised a hand once she had an answer. "I think I'd try to pretend to be really helpless and scared so the bad guy would either feel sorry for me and not attack me, or they'd get overconfident and underestimate me, and that's when I'd surprise attack them." Seemed like a solid plan to her. |
There had been a dueling club last term? Well that sounded AWESOME! Sign Scarlett up! She wanted to learn how to fight, even though she knew the chances of her actually being in a duel someday were pretty slim. Still, it was good to KNOW. She raised her hand. "Well I'd probably scream, then punch them in the face. And hopefully the adrenaline going through my veins would make my punch strong enough to do damage. Then I'd run," she told him truthfully. Because that was EXACTLY how it would play out. |
Some of these ideas that people were coming up with were making Melbourne a little squirmy. “Professor?” She asked raising her hand, “are we aloud to use weapons?” Yes. That was an important question. “Because really anything could be used to ward off an attacker even mint breath spray to the eyes…or blow horns or your own shoes especially heels can be rather painful” she nodded as if she had an extensive knowledge on those sort of things. She did. She collected them but that wasn’t the point right now. “If those weren’t accessible I’d say a good kick to the shins could help or as Scarlett said yelling could help.” She nodded. “Not only could the yelling attract attention from others in the vicinity it has the potential to distract the attacker but its not always the safest option” yes. She knew things. |
+ Mel, mentioned Lance and Marsha Tenacius gave Mel a look, staring at that nametag on her forehead, but that wasn’t the oddest thing he found about it "Just when was your name Amelia?" blink blink. "Werent you always Ms Australia?" Then they were joined by another girl and that dude from Astronomy. Nods to you Cavalry Kid. SPOILER!!: The Prof Well it doesn’t look like the Professor was gonna be biting his head off, to which the curly top broadened his smile as he relaxed some more. Mr Enthusiastic? Almost as awesome a name as Mr Fantastic. And whoah there is a dueling club? That got Tenacius all sitting up alert. Ohhh he wanted to try that out, are they going to be using swords? Probably wands, but he wants to try out swords, like the ones in the armory! He's had experience!... Ok maybe it was plastic lightsabers BUT THEY ARE THE SAME THING! And ok, looks like everybody was wearing a name tag. He was missing his wasn’t he? Scuffle scuffle whereisit-- AHA! Quote:
And wow what a question. This got the curly top thinking-- yeah he was thinking! Because he was ickle and he knows that. If he was built like a Green Bay Packer this was easy peasy answer, but he wasn’t. He also wasn’t a Jedi or a Sith, or an Air/Fire/Water/Earth bender, so that’s all out. All out. This was a hypothetical situation that can totally happen in reality. "Uhm.... Take the higher ground?... Higher ground that’s difficult to get to by the bigger guy, like a tree, or as close to volcano as possible, because those has rocks and I can throw those." He was an ickle, and if he ever gets transported to that situation right now, at least he knew what to do. |
Dot leaned back on her mat, resting her weight on her palms and tilting her chin back as she stretched out all the muscles in her back, arms, and legs. It just seemed like the thing to do, sitting on a mat on the floor, even if she wasn't about to go to a barre and start dancing. The mats meant they were going to do something practical, anyway, so she might as well be limber. As for the question? She sat up straight again and raised a hand. "Yell, sir. Loud. It puts off my attacker, draws attention to my plight, and maybe gives me time to figure out a better plan. And then probably run away, because, Merlin, have you heard how violent these kids are? If I met one of my classmates in a dark alley, I'd prefer to leave said alley." |
OH CHARLOTTE HAD A WHOLE LOT OF GREAT IDEAS. TWO OF THEM WERE IN THIS ROOM EVEN. She put her hand up. "Professor I think it depends on the situation but, I'd SIC MY COUSINS ONTO THE BAD GUY!" Yeah! She enthusiastically pointed with both fingers, first at Dima and then at Bastien and then nodded a few times for effect. See? They even had good ideas right? "And if they weren't right THERE then I would try and SCARE the bad guy by telling them about BADDER GUYS that I know," Her uncles, actually, Dima and Bastien's fathers', "And if they weren't listening or were dumb, I'd YELL and then KICK THEIR SHINS." Those things would work. She also considered flinging a snail at someone who finds snails gross, but she wasn't sure how you'd know that in a split second, and also wasn't sure that if it came down to it she would sacrifice one of her snails. "Also because we have a house elf, I'd summon her, and she could take me away to safety! OR use her house elf magic to like... have a wall collapse on the bad guy or something like--" Charlotte snapped her fingers. House elf magic. Like that. |
She had to.. WHAT NOW? Oh goodness! In a room, with no wand and she was being attacked? Her purple eyes were wide and she bit her lip a little.. there would be no way she, little Azura Kennedy would be able to fight anyone! Not without falling and breaking something! Could she use that to her advantage? The purple eyed Ravenclaw slowly raised her hand. "I don't think I would be able to fight them Sir." She admitted honestly. "I might possibly be able to run, but I'm not very good on my feet." Let's hope he hadn't heard about the charms incident or the fact that she had broken her nose.. THREE times now! "I think my best defense would be to hide and try to get out of the room using stealth, maybe hide in a box and slowly move towards the door. otherwise I wouldn't be able to escape." She said honestly. Because.. without her wand.. she was slightly helpless! |
Having filled out his name tag, although of course the professor already knew who he was, David leaned back on his hands and looked around thoughtfully as his classmates gave answers. These answers were interestingly very indicative of their individual personalities. Oh, and Dueling Club WOULD be back? Alright. He'd been torn on whether he wanted it back or not, and ultimately reasoned that dueling would be a useful skill to learn... not to mention something his parents would expect of him... Anyway. The twelve-year-old eventually raised his hand to answer when it was his turn. "I would do what Daxton Prince is doing." Why this kid, you may ask? Other than the boy's INNATE NONHUMAN ABILITIES due to his being half-goblin, he was remaining quiet, perceptive, and... maybe a little bit defensive, what with that knees-to-chest bit he had going on. But David didn't say all that aloud, "I mean," the spectacled boy tore his eyes away from studying his dormmate, "I would get into some sort of defensive position, perhaps behind a rock as Ariadne mentioned, and quickly analyze what I could of the situation. Is there an easy way to escape? Some kind of weapon to utilize against them? An easily discernible weakness of theirs which I could manipulate to my advantage? Could I talk or reason my way out of things, to prevent their attack entirely? Is this conflict avoidable by any chance?" Davie certainly wouldn't attack first, nor would he attempt wandless magic nor apparition because he wasn't even sure of his older classmates' abilities to do any of that. And who was to say his house elf would come on command? Pinky was loyal to his mother, first of all, not to him. Not really. He certainly didn't let Davie get away with keeping spare chocolate frogs under his pillow. So it was best to act defensively, in his opinion, in this hypothetical scenario which seemed to be primed to garner some sort of telling response out of them, particularly since it didn't have many details. Hem hem. We're on to you, Professor Hirsch. |
Helloooo. Hugo was in the room waiting for the class to begin, with his name tag on his robes next to the Prefect Badge. EHEM. Quote:
He raised his hand. "I would definitely need my wand" he was sincere "But if I don't have it. Umm...I would run away from that person and then look around at my surroundings to find like a piece of wood to defend myself. Just in case the person wants to do me some harm and then, I don't know...maybe hide behind a bush" yeah. That worked for him. |
Quote:
Limbering up? Why yes, yes he was. "Have to be prepared for anything," he replied with a smirk. THAT, and he didn't much fancy sitting around and twiddling his thumbs while the girls in the room swooned and drooled all over the place. Mmhhmm. No, he was going to get himself IN THE ZONE and ignore the fact that there was ANYONE here other than himself and the Professor. He call call it private tuition, and it would be spectacular. Text Cut: Proffffyyy Sitting up a little straighter and holding his knees, Zeke stretched his neck from side to side as Professor Hirsch began their introductions. All standard stuff... almost. At the mention of Dueling Club, Zeke's eyes widened a bit before he settled into a casual grin. IT WAS HAPPENING! Internally he was fist-pumping, externally he was just a guy on a mat. The news was excellent, it would mean that his sessions with Sabel and Elijah over the summer wouldn't be wasted efforts, and he could defend his title. Dueling Champ in the house, yo. But celebration could wait till later, he was curious about why they had to wear comfortable clothing - which screamed PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, and he yearned for it. As they jumped back into lesson material, Zeke pondered the scenario Hirsch put to them. Wandless, danger, worthy opponent... obviously there were many things he could do, but what he would do wouldn't be something he'd decide until the very minute it was required of him. As such, he valued Janelle's answer, but also so many others. That Jaemin guy had the right idea about the neck, because he was a fan of a well-placed punch to the throat. Accuracy with strikes was a factor though. Wandless magic, yeah, if you were able... frankly, he wouldn't be relying on it any time soon, he trusted his body more than that. With so many of his ideas already spoken, Zeke wondered if there was much value in speaking them again. Regardless, he raised his hand to participate. "I don't like vague scenarios," he stated simply at first, because yeah... his answers were taken and the scenario was too open to really give a response that he was happy with, "but generally speaking you'd assess the situation, can you fight and win? do you have to fight? or should you run? and if you're fighting, disarm, disable and confine... using of course whatever you have available." Sand to the face, direct knocks, height leverage, objects of the environment... yeah, endless possibilities to which vagueness didn't help. |
Spiderman. This professor was a descendant of Spiderman that for some ridiculous idea decided to wind up at Hogwarts and teach rather than live an exhilarating life saving lives and kicking butt. It was sad quite frankly. Cornelius was sure of it. In fact, Professor Hirsch was like...Spiderman-mixed-Harry-Potter. The glasses and that geeky look to his face. There was something about him and Cornelius was going to make sure to keep a close eye on him. Aside from that, Cornelius had made himself a comfy "I would SING. Depending if my attacker already had a hold on me, I would SING." Cornelius nodded seriously. Did Hirsch know what SING was? Cornelius wiggled, sitting up straight. "First, you target the solar plexus." He chopped his hand sharply through the air. "Then you JAM your heel into their instep." He picked up his foot and brought his heel down on the floor. BOOM! "Then you swirl around and you hit them in their nose and then the most PAINFUL part of all." Cornelius SMIRKED though he wiggled in his spot. It hurt even thinking about it. "You get them in the family jewels." YA'OUUUCH. M'HM. He grinned victoriously. "S.I.N.G." |
Rachel had just applied the tag to her clothing when she saw Azura waving to her. She waved back with a smile on her face. She was pleased to see that she was being acknowledged by some of her other friends. Esme got a wave in return as did Katherine, Olivia and Sam. Her best friend arrived with a literal bang. Rachel winced when Haddie collided with the door. “Are you alright?’’ she asked with concern the moment the girl had joined her. “Did you hurt yourself?’’ She cast an eye over Haddie then giggled softly. “Yes, you do. You can be so clumsy like Azura.’’ With one last concerned look at Haddie, Rachel focused her attention on Professor Hirsch. She was confident she would enjoy his lesson and couldn't wait to get to that aspect of the lesson where they found out what the boxes were for. Oh, a dueling club? Rachel knew instantly she wanted to sign up for this. Hopefully, her dad wouldn't be too over protective and let her take part. She would work to convince him on this. About the question, the eleven year old focused on finding an answer. After a moment, she raised her hand. "I would do an observation of my surrounding first, Professor. Then I would use my wits to find a way to use what there is in my surrounding to my advantage either as a shield to hide myself or as a weapon or as both.'' In Rachel's case, she would use it as a shield, however. |

And the lesson had begun! At the mention of the Dueling Club, Carl grinned excitedly and took a mental note to sign up after this lesson was over. Moving on, he took out his parchment and quill to take real notes. Hmm, he could answer that question for sure. So in his imagination, there was this big, tough man in front of him ... he had a large beard for a scarier effect - wait, a scary effect. The Hufflepuff raised his hand and answered, "I would glare at my opponent and try to appear really intimidating. Maybe they would be scared and run away from me!" No? Well, chances were slim but it was possible, right? |
The nod her greeting had received was only rewarded by another calculating look. Brooklyn was filing all of this away for later, especially the part where the professor was seemingly much more polite toward everyone aside from her. That wasn’t exactly the best idea, but then she wasn’t about to tell him that. He’d have to figure that out on his own. That she wasn’t polite for no reason. She expected a reaction, and that meant more than just a nod. She’d nearly rolled her eyes at the sarcasm his introduction had held, too. Nearly. It had stayed in her head, not a physical reaction. She’d mentally shrugged in response to the dueling club announcement as well. She hadn’t been part of it last term, so it hardly made her excited this term. In some ways she just felt it was an example of new professors trying to make it seem like nothing was changing. She knew things were changing. She wasn’t stupid. She also wasn’t quite as afraid as it seemed like some people thought she was. “Obviously if they’re attacking me, they aren’t very smart,” she replied, lazily raising a hand. “If they did, I’d find a way out of the situation. Dodge them, hit them,” if she had to. She would do something. The important part was that she wouldn’t hide. She didn’t cower, and she most certainly didn’t curl up into the fetal position if something dangerous was around. Preferably, she’d get someone to defend her, but she wouldn’t hide. “Or I’d use a potion to incapacitate them.” It wasn’t a wand. He hadn’t said they couldn’t use magic at all. |
Penelope Would they be learning about non-magical means of self defense? She would use her Ravenclaw wits to assess the situation. Why was she being attacked? Did the attacker have a wand or other weapons? Was there anywhere to hide? Could she run? Use some nearby object as a weapon? Climb to higher ground and jump at her attacker? "Depends on the situation, my surroundings, if the attacker has a wand, and the physical strength of the attacker. I would assess the situation and use my wits to figure out what to do. Might run, might hide, might jump at the attacker." Jumping at the attacker would be only for if it had to come to physical combat, a surprise attack. Dima had said something about wandless magic. Smart idea, if one knew how to use wandless magic. Young wizards and witches used magic without wands, but that was unfocused and mostly unintentional. Wands helped focus magic. Maybe intentional wandless magic would require extreme focus and concentration. This was a topic that she would have to research later. Wandless magic sounded incredibly intriguing. She would have to ask Dima what he knew about it. |
