While your everyday classroom would be set up with desks, chairs and maybe even an indication as to what the lesson was going to be about, this classroom was different. The chairs were gone, the desks had vanished and the only ‘new’ thing about this class were the two boxes sitting by Professor Hirsch’s desk. One box, sealed, was sitting on the floor by the desk and the other, open and empty, was sitting on the man's desk itself.
With the desks and chairs gone, the Defence Professor has placed comfortable mats and cushions around the room. Each cushion has a small name tag on it and every inch of the floor is covered with the same mats that can be found in the Defence Training Room, if anyone has had a peek in there. If you look up at the board, you'll find out exactly what it is you're meant to do with your name tags...

Speaking of, Professor Hirsch himself can be found leaning against his desk, his arms crossed across his chest and his legs crossed at the ankles.
So come in, grab a cushion, and wait for the lesson to begin.

Rachel peeked into the DADA classroom. Was she too early? Her eyes settled on Professor Hirsch and decided she wasn't very much early because he seemed to be waiting on his students. She stepped into the room, observing the boxes curiously. "Hello, Professor.'' She smiled politely as she still watched the boxes. "I'm already curious about this lesson.''
After greeting Hirsch, she strode off to find herself a cushion. She decided on one at the center of the class and not too much to the front. After she read the instructions, the Eagle got out her quill to write up her name tag before sticking it neatly to her clothing:

Azura walked into the classroom and looked around, where were the chairs and the desks? She blinked her purple eyes a bit before shrugging! It actually worked out better for her! The less stuff in the way, the less she had to trip over!!
She waved shyly at the Professor as he leaned on his desk "Hello Professor" came her soft voice, before heading over to a cushion and picking up a name tag!

CUSHIONS.
Rooney fought the urge to bounce on all of those that weren't taken yet to find the best one for his derrière, and instead ran for one in the middle of things and skidded onto it on his knees. And...across a little maybe taking out a few more of the cushions in his process. No matter. No one harmed, yet?? Ah, never mind. He was mainly just excited that he wasn't having to sit in a classroom with someone who had let Blaise Bellaire BEAT him in a duel. This Professor probably knew nothing of that and Rooney would prove himself worthy of this class. He was going to prove that he could do this better than Blaise bloody Bellaire.
"HI PROFESSOR. I'M -- oh. One second!!" The third year grinned, picked up a name tag and wrote down his details before pinning it to his chest and finding the perfect position where no light was catching it and blurring out a portion of his name. He didn't want someone to misread his name as Rodney, for he was not a Rodney. He was a Rooney and his Mama had named him that was for a reason.
Because she liked kangaroos, thank you very much.
Growing up around muggles had been hard with their assumptions that he was named after a guy who kicked a ball with his feet and, from Roo's own research, had the hairline of an elderly man in his twenties. Unfortunate.

It was not too surprising to walk into a room where there were no chairs or desks. It happened often enough at Hogwarts. It usually meant that something exciting was going to happen as part of that lesson. That was especially true for Defense Against the Dark Arts. It was a class that Olly liked, and he was looking forward to meeting the new professor. He hadn't really gotten to know the old one very well, so he didn't miss him much. Sure, he was a good professor. But this guy would be too, otherwise he wouldn't have been hired, right? Right.
For one wild moment, Olly thought the nametags on the cushions were actually the names of the cushions. That would have been interesting, but the actual reason made a lot more sense. Olly selected one on the far right, not next to anyone in the room. He didn't know any of them, except for that one boy who he would not want to sit next to anyway.
"Hello Professor," he greeted. What was his name? He wasn't wearing a nametag. With that thought, Olly picked up the one on his cushion and took out his quill before scribbling down his name and sticking it on the front of his robes. There.

Defence Against the Dark Arts had quickly become one of Daxton's... more appreciated lessons, last year. That meaning, it was not one that the Ravenclaw had decided to regularly skip.
But today he was reluctant, because this was a new set-up, new rules... but ultimately he had to get used to an entirely new professor, when he had been content enough with the old one. This was stepping into an unknown, and Daxton did not like it one bit. He was already in a foul mood and very much closed off (more closed off than usual, at least) before even reaching the classroom.
Daxton stepped into the classroom, predictably (perhaps to anyone but the professor, first years, and new students) barefoot. His shoes were shoved in his bag with his robes, but his notebook was already in his hand, so he did not have to wrestle it free. The second year narrowed his eyes at the set-up of the room, then met the new professor with a harsh glare, which he held before bending down to pick up a nametag from a nearby cushion.
Moving off to the very side of the room, Daxton sat himself at the foot of the wall, leaning up against it and avoiding the cushions or mats. Using his pen, he filled in the nametag in a similar manner to how he had done so in Airey Flamsteed's lesson - though this time it was purely out of a desire to be difficult and show his already-formed disapproval of the professor - before sticking it on his chest.

Entering the classroom, Esme smiled. "Hello, Professor!" The lack of desks and chairs did not surprise her at all since that was pretty standard for this subject, though she could understand the First Years being confused.
Azura, Rachel, and Abby all got waves before she took a seat on one of the cushions. Right, time to make a name tag:

Kitty followed her fellow students into the Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom. Her dark hair was combed as usual as were her nails painted black.
"Hello Professor!" Kitty greeted the professor cheerfully, and then went to sit down on one of the very comfortable cushions. She took the name tag and followed the instructions that were written on the board.

This was going to be yet another class where they would climb walls and jump to the space, wasn't it? Katherine knew DADA had to be practical, but somehow she didn't have good feelings at all, especially after those two classes. She was sure she would hate this class too, and she would be scarred for life once more. She wouldn't be surprised if they were required to fight a bunch of dementors, to be honest. However, because it was a new professor and all, she still put on a wide smile and checked her hair. She had worn comfortable clothes, of course, and had even emptied her bag except for the DADA book and notebook.
"Hello, professor, class mates," she said as she greeted the man and then her "friends." Haha, yep, this class was just going to be complete chaos, the mattresses were a clear sign of it. How could people sit on them, even? They were a w f u l for the back, didn't they know? Ugh, even though she would sit at the front normally, this time, she casually picked the mattress in the middle by the wall in the right side of the room. If chaos ensued, she didn't want to be right in the middle of it.

It was time for a DADA lesson, and Rula was actually a little bit excited, if only because she was curious to see how different it was from Durmstrang's actual Dark Arts lessons. It was a class she hadn't enjoyed all that much anyway, so maybe she'd like this one. Who knew.
She entered the classroom, noting first the absence of desks and chairs and then noticing - oh.
The professor guy....was quite handsome, wasn't he? Hehehehehe. Yeah, he was...
Er. She should...probably not just stand here. Fortunately it was only a few seconds, right?? Maybe it'd just seem like she was looking at the room. Or the mysterious boxes. Yes, good. She wasn't blushing, right? Right???
"U-Um...hi, Professor," she finally managed with a shy little smile as she quickly moved to a cushion in the front. Obviously the best seat in the room. Yes.

Dora was not nearly as excited about this DADA class as she had been the previous year... for OBVIOUS reasons. And this dude, this new professor, had HUGE shoes to fill and Dora Umbridge would be judging him. Harshly if need be! HMPH!
Putting on a smile, mostly fake, she entered the classroom and paused. "Good day, Professor. I hope you're well, " Dora said in a sickly sweet voice before moving along to plop onto a mat near Daxton. Yep. Eyes on the professor dude. JUDGING.

Dante was not sure what to make of the new DADA prof yet. But hey it was DADA so of course Dante was going to attend. Might not be his best subject but he enjoyed it. Dante stepped into the room looked around for a second and just shrugged. Seeing no desks or chairs in this class was becoming expected for him. It was almost as minimalist as his office. But not quite.
"Hey Professor Hirsch"
Dante then grabbed a cushion and walked towards an empty mat in the somewhat back and took a seat. Oh look more name-tags. Maybe he should write a fake name. But nah, he had his fun with those in his first year.

Haddie entered with her normal grace of careening into the door. "Wow." She rubbed her shoulder where it had impacted with the wooden door. "The floors here are slippery." The last time she entered a class in that fashion had been because she had to clean herself up after Peeves tried to start a food fight in the library, and didn't want to be late. This time it was because she was overly excited for this subject. Hadley was especially keen on seeing how Kira, her wand, did with the combative spells.
She was still rubbing her shoulder when she grabbed a cushion and a nametag. Most of the students here thus far were her house mates. There was Katherine, Kitty, Azura and three other Ravenclaws she hadn't met yet. And of course, Rachel. "Hey Kitty, Az, Mossy!" She greeted them all at once with a huge wave, and then waved at the other three Ravenclaws. So what if she didn't know them yet, they were her house.
None-to-delicately Haddie tossed the cushion in the open spot next to Rachel and plopped down on it with all the grace and subtlety of her entrance. "I need to stopped doing that," she announced, giving her shoulder one last rub before digging in her messenger bag for her quill and ink. Violet glitter ink this time, because it was fun. And it sparkled.

Haddie slapped the name tag on her robes and grinned, pleased yet again with herself.
Chloe wasn't disinterested in DADA but it wasn't her favourite subject by a long shot. It was less theory and more wand work in a class than she would have liked because, well, she liked to read. But at least it never seemed to overwhelm her like some of the more practical classes here. Looking at you, last Charms lesson.
She wandered into the room with her hair all in her face. She swatted at it so she could see a little better and had to stifle a scoff. What was with professors and desks? Why did they hate them? Students didn't want empty classrooms or cool cushions or anything avant garde. They were there to-
Oh my merlin.
Her little twelve year old eyes bulged when she saw the new professor.
And his face. Mostly his face.
Were faces even allowed to DO that?!
Her face flooded bright red rather unprettily. And she stood looking at his face for a beat too long before she scurried to her seat and flopped down in a nearby cushion.

DADA. The subject had been a blast last term. Not only had she enjoyed the lessons but the dueling club was even better. It had pushed her to excel and surpass her own expectations. Was she ready for this lesson? Sure. A new professor. Not so much.
Entering the room she had a light grin on her face. "Hello Professor," She greeted quietly. Selecting a cushion in the center of the room, not at all bothered by the lack of desks or chairs the fifth year picked up the name tag and her quill.

Elliot popped his head in looking around the classroom. Classroom? Could he call it that? The desks were gone but there were comfy looking cushions everywhere. He shuffled inside nodding at the man by the desk with a "Good day, Professor." before moving to an unoccupied cushion and settling onto the floor. Glancing up at the board he realized he should be writing his information down. He rummaged for his quill before picking up the small tag and writing
Jaemin had hurried to this class, clutching his book the entire way and hoping he was remembering the right floor and room. Upon stepping into the room, he stopped dead and blinked at the distinct lack of classroom in the classroom...
He very nearly turned to leave, sure he had come to the wrong place, before he caught sight of the board. He wasn't wrong... it was just another weird class. Was this normal here? The small boy pondered this as he wandered toward the desk to peek at the boxes, carefully not straying too close. The professor might get miffed at him... he looked up at the man and gave him a quick little salute before zooming off to claim a cushion in front so he'd be able to see eeeeeeverything. The small boy plopped down to scribble out his nametag in all caps for legibility purposes before slapping it on his chest.
Kaylee was excited about her first Defense Against the Dark Arts class, she wasn't sure why though. She walked into the classroom and blinked at the lack of desks in the room. Instead there were bunch of mats and cushions on the ground. 'What are we going to do here today?'
As she walked further into the room she saw a few students that arrived before she did, and of course Professor Hirsch. The 1st year girl smiled at the professor before saying "Hello Professor Hirsch, my name is Kaylee Harrison."
After she introduce herself, she found an empty cushion and picked up the tag that was on it. The curly haired girl glanced up at the board that had the instructions. She pulled out her quill and filled out the tag

Ellery flounced into class, eyes wide and smiling. She had heard great things about the DADA professor - as in "oh my merlin he is SOO good looking!!!" from literally EVERYONE. She hadn't really noticed him at the opening feast - she had been a bit preoccupied with herself - and since then she had been intensively studying the complete works of Edgar Allen Poe, so she hadn't seen him out and about. She eyeballed him as she came in, offering him a quick "H'lo, professor. How are you?" He looked… symmetrical enough, and she could see the aesthetic appeal. However, no swooping sensation in her stomach or flushed cheeks, so she figured she just had to wait it out.
She flopped down on a cushion, her hair fanning out behind her, then fixed a nametag to her chest.

Kat did love defense against the dark arts so far. It wasn't Herbology but it was turning into one of her favorite classes. She surely had gotten this love if DADA from Phillp. Or her parents maybe. Or it could just totally be her thing. Skipping up the first floor to the classroom. She bounced on into the classroom bag swung over her shoulder.
"Good morning, professor!" Still bouncing as she past the defensive professor. Hmmmm, no desk. They were going to be sitting on pillows today huh? Awesome! Seeing the nametag Kat filled it out and stuck it on her forehead. Hehe. She was so silly sometimes.

She grinned wider than the first time at the girl. "Hi, I'm Kat!" Pointing at her name stuck to her forehead. Reading her name tag too, the girl was also a first year. Kat beamed.

Making her way over to the DADA classroom, Brooklyn was prepared for just about anything. She’d gone through enough in there the past few terms that she knew better than not to be ready. Plus, there was still the matter of not quite being decided as to her opinion of the professor. He wasn’t Professor Romanos, and he wasn’t Professor Dakest. That was all she was confident about when it came to him, yet as she’d stepped into the classroom, she wondered. The mats and everything really did remind her of Professor Romanos.
“Good day Professor,” she said, giving him a nod as she passed him on her way to a mat, semi-near Hady but closer to the front. She needed a good vantage point to make her decision, after all. Setting her things down before settling onto the mat herself, she pulled a quill out and filled out he name tag.

Except she didn’t stick it exactly on her chest, more toward her shoulder. Just because she felt like the other was way too obvious, and also to test him. It didn’t hurt, and besides, he’d learn how to handle her either way. That was basically his job, and she wondered if he knew what they’d learned last term. Certain curses and what they were like.

Defense class! Scarlett was excited for another hands on lesson - hopefully this one wouldn't involve climbing walls, though. She was hoping to just do some fun, easy spell work, really get to KNOW her wand and test how it felt to do all these fun spells with it.
"Hello!" she said happily to the professor as she walked in. She took her nametag, scribbled away her name and then placed it on her robes:
