The man had just managed to get himself away from a nearby 'fight' with a dummy and another kid when the sound of someone's voice caught his attention. Did they have to wear protective gear? That sounded like such a student question to ask, alongside 'what do we have to do' and 'is this going to come up in the exam'. Hirsch considered the boy for a moment and considered what he'd seen of his fighting tactics from before. Kid had even managed to help Mr Baltazar over there while completing his task, so....... hm. The older man moved closer so as not to let the other students overhear. Merlin knows what some of the others would be like if they heard what he went on to tell Mr Browne. "You seem like you're capable enough from what I've seen so I'll let you go without. But be very careful, okay?" No Hospital Wing visits, please. OOC: Lovely work so far, you guys! You have about 27 and a half hours to finish this ^^ |

Rachel started grabbing her wrist and it's not that hard to break her grip because it wasn't hard enough. She twisted her own arm and pulled it backward to break her grip. See? It was easy. "You should've gripped it harder." She said. Once Ava broke her grip, she gave her a strike on her solar plexus with her palm heel. At least they both wearing the protective gears so it wouldn't hurt.... Right? |
2 Okay. Okay. THE DUMMY WAS ALREADY HERE though, so no time for a deep breath and even though she took a few steps backwards to gain time, she knew she couldn't back off till forever. She immersed herself so much in the fight that she forgot it was just an activity. And because she hadn't mentally prepared for her own attack (naively thinking it would stop when she got free of its grip on her), she panicked. She struck forward, but it was obviously in panic and not planned. It was weak, and hit the dummy in the stomach, which wasn't even mentioned for once. She was going to die, wasn't she? |
Post 1 - Main Activity TOOT TOOT!! Olivia heard the whistle and turned her attention to Professor Hirsch once more, her dummy thankfully behaving at the moment so she need not worry about her back being turned. It seemed he was pleased with all of their progress, even if some situations sounded like they might have gotten a little out of control. Listening to him as he explained a few things further, the first year made a note of what she should add to her notes later on. Because for now...they were moving on. More information to process, including how to get out of a hold. That might have been helpful to know beforehand with the first activity, but then luckily she hadn't been caught in that situation. Olivia played rapt attention, having a feeling she knew what was going to be happening next. The reveal of protection for them to put on only cemented the idea. They would be trying out what they had been told. Wait...why was he moving his wand towards the dummies? There wasn't time to dwell on it because they were being given their instructions and dismissed to do just that with another sound of the whistle. Olivia didn't hesitate to go for the equipment to put it on, a head piece, a torco piece and stuff for her hands and legs. Which was certainly a good thing since that dummy she had subdued...it was now moving back towards her again. And this time, it wasn't looking so chummy at her. The Ravenclaw braced herself. It wouldn't go down so easily this time. |

Gross, what was that? Hannibal? "Don't eat me," he pleaded dramatically. He went for the shins. Kicking out with one foot, hard. He also twisted, trying to wrench himself out of her grasp. |
3 Okay, no, she didn't die. Of course, her weak punch in the stomach did nothing to the dummy, and she didn't have time for more (she couldn't have done anything anyway, she had basically been paralysed in fear). So she took a standing fetal position instinctively: she turned sideways, raised her arms on her side and tried protecting her head. However, of course the dummy only punched her arm strongly enough to hurt but not enough to leave a mark. "Ouch!" she exclaimed, and that was enough to shake some sense in her. This was a practice dummy!.. which was already trying to hold her wrist, so she quickly and forcefully tried to turn face-forward towards it and KICKED it in the groin. HOW DID THAT FEEL NOW!? |
Post 4 SPOILER!!: Ava! <3 Rachel really did think that she had been gripping Ava's hand with great force but unfortunately, it didn't seem so. The Lion easily broke away from her hold with ease and before Rachel had a chance to respond, there was an attack coming her way. Using as much of her agility as she could, defended herself by raising her hand to deflect Ava's palm before it could hit her again. The first hit had caught her off guard. Without waiting for Ava to get again, though, Rachel lifted a foot and brought it around the Gryffindor in an attempt to hook it around the girl's knee then pull it forward so that she would loose her balance. Yes, she was much more ready this time but would it work? |
Post 1 This school is amazing! AH- MAZE- ING!!! Seriously. First a ball game in Astronomy, then wall-climbing in Charms and now fighting off dummies in Defense against the dark arts! Haddie grinned. The soreness had faded plenty now, and she was ready to rush in and kick dummy butt. That one right over there looked like it'd be a good choice. Excited, Haddie made her way to the dummy, placing herself in front of it. It worked. The dummy turned toward her, and started to advance. It was complete focused on the young Ravenclaw and she was completely focused on it. This was going to be fun. Something else grabbed her wrist. Haddie had been so focused on the first dummy that she hadn't noticed she'd gotten the attention of another one. Meanwhile the first dummy continued to advance. |
Hiding Kitty was too frightened to confront these more aggressive dummies on her own, but she was also too shy to ask anyone to be her partner. What if they said no? So instead she hung near the back, hoping no one would notice her absence from the activity... |
Post 2ish SPOILER!!: Kitty Hady was just about to go up against her 'attacker'/dummy when out of the corner of her eye she noticed something. Or well someone. A smaller girl she knew to be a first year but had never spoken to. Kid looked scared honestly. She was going to work alone but suddenly changing her mind she walked across the room to the girl. "Hey I'm Hady, are you alright? Would you like a partner instead of going up against one of those?" She asked quietly gesturing to the dummies. They did appear to be rougher then earlier. She'd even go first if the kid wanted. |
Post 2. Quote:
"Yes thank you!"Kitty's voice trembled in relief but she tried hard to contain it. "I'm Kitty, by the way. It's nice to meet you Hady." This was the second Hady that Kitty had met this term - the other being Haddie from her own house Ravenclaw. "Who should go first?"Kitty asked (referring to the dummy challenge) in what she hoped was not a nervous tone - not wanting to sound scared of going first but privately hoping that Hady would volunteer. |
Post 3 SPOILER!!: Kitty The sheer relief in the Ravens voice didn't go unnoticed. Hady just choose not to mention it. "No problem. It's nice meeting you too." Kitty? As in a cat? Maybe it was short for something like her own name. Anyhow now ain't the time for discussiona of nicknames. "I will if you like. All you have to do is hold my wrist tightly and try not to let go while I try to get free, okay?" It sounded really simply but she also had to keep in mind that her partner was several years younger then herself. Hady held out her arm for the girl to take hold of her wrist, she was ready to get started. |
Post 3 Quote:
"Okay" Kitty reached out and took Hady's wrist. It sounded easy enough. She tried to hold on tightly without squeezing. "I'm ready!" |
Post 4 SPOILER!!: Kitty Hady kept still as Kitty took hold of her wrist glad that the girl was keeping a firm grip on it. When she said she was ready the snakette nodded to show she was too. A quick glance at the board to make sure of the instructions was all that was needed. Taking a step towards her partner she brought her elbow down at the very same time. This should've caused Kitty's wrist to bend downwards so she couldn't move away. Hady kept a close eye on this and when it did happen she quickly lifted her arm upwards to where her wrist was free of the smaller girls grasp. She had done it! Yes! This could've been luck or maybe that her new friend was younger but at least she knew how to do it. "You're turn. Just do as I did and you'll get it," She told her taking her wrist and holding onto it firmly but not so much it would hurt. Ready. |
Post 1.. Little help? After Azura had put on her protective gear.. she looked around for Garreth and didn't see him at all.. She bit her still slightly bleeding lip as her purple eyes wandered to what she would have to fight now..A very scary looking dummy! This wasn't going to be easy! What WAS it with her class mates abandoning her in times of certain danger! First Austin with the whole wall thing... and now Garreth? Surely they would have been able to help each other out? She sighed a little as she approached one and whimpered a bit as she tried to remembered all she had learned, but it wasn't going to be easy, even with everything she had just done! Her legs and arms already felt like jello and her face hurt! Okay! "Okay Dummy, it's just you and me.. I'm warning you to stay away from my nose all right?" She muttered to it as she ducked under it's first attack... "Hey!! She whimpered as it grabbed her wrist and she tried to remember what to do.. Uhh step forward.. ACK!!! THAT HURT!!! She put her knee up and kicked the dummy in the groin as it's free arm hit her arm.. She was going to die! She was blaming Garreth for her death.. she would become a ghost and haunt him!! After she got her bloody wrist freeeeeeee!!! |
#2 Matt wasn't slow, but it did take him a second to realise what was happening. After he tried his super back kick, the dummy had grabbed his foot instead of his wrist. He wasn't prepared for THAT, but he managed to use his hands as he would his feet and hung upsidedown for a moment. "Welp." Things were going as PLANNED! Not. Lol. "Excuse me!" He said as a way to inform the dummy of what was about to happen. Placing all of his body weight firmly on the palm of his hands, the Gryffindor used both of his feet to kick the dummy away. It took him a good couple of seconds to release himself, but he had done it! "There. Now let's do this RIGHT, dummy. You're cleverer than I thought, but we have to do this RIGHT." He said after he jumped up and got his hair out of his forehead. The dummy was already coming at him again and he immediately got ready. "EN GARDE! You don't fool me now, you!" Matt exclaimed as he bounced back and forth in a defense!readytoattack pose. "Wrist. My WRIST." He told the dummy, but the thing was clever enough, as he had noted, and it did grab his wrist that time. "Ah, there we go." He tried to follow the instructions as he remembered them. Arm down... like that, maybe. And then shot it UP! ...No? Nope, not like that, it seemed. Down... and UP! Down and UP! Down and UP! "GET OFF ME, YOU THING!" Matt shouted as he kept moving his arm frantically to try and get rid of the dummy. He wasn't desperate, but maybe if he was emphatic enough the thing would give up. He was pretty sure those were the instructions he was supposed to follow. |
Post 1 Paired with Henric Quote:
Awww they had to wear the gear? The professor said that they did and Henric seemed to agree. Whether it was because he was a Prefect, a Hufflepuff, simply extremely protective of her, or any combination thereof she wasn't really certain. What she did know, is that she wasn't going to win that argument as he placed a helmet upon her head. "Alright love." She submitted and geared up. "So, now that I weigh twice what I normally do....who is going first?" Yes, she was sparring him, not the dummy thank you. "Do you want to grab me, or shake yourself loose?" She asked with a playful smirk and posed as if she was facing him in a martial arts match. |
Main Activity Post 2 "EXCUSE YOU!" Rude dummy was RUDE. Norah took a few steps out of the dummy's reach and reset. Okay. Yes. No hesitation this time, mean or not mean. She let out a long breath, taking an extra step back just in case, and lifted both hands in front of her. Pressure points pressure points pressure points, RIGHT. The dummy approached and this time she was the first to lunge forwards and grab ITs wrist, jerking it forwards before letting go completely and taking another few steps back. Whoops. That had just felt too mean, y'know? She gave her head another shake and wiggled her fingers. She had to do this. It was just embarrassing at this point. When the dummy reached her again, she grimaced slightly as it took a firm grip on her wrist, and this sent her foot swinging towards it instead of just standing there. Instinctively, she shut both eyes until she felt her foot connect with what she assumed was the dummy's groin. Of course she couldn't be completely sure, but whatever she had done had made the dummy's grip loosen just enough for her to release one hand, which she used to jab at the dummy's eyes. Unsurprisingly, she missed, and it wasn't long before her wrist had been captured again as the dummy forced her backwards. Apparently groin kicking was not enough. That was lame. This entire thing was lame. Could they stop now? She'd had quite enough violence for the rest of her entire life, thank you very much. |

She pulled him down with her. If she was going down, so was he. MUAHAHAHA. |

Kitty was not very good at physical activities, she wasn't that strong at all - and she wondered if she would be able to break free even if she followed the instructions. Hopefully she would. "Here goes!"Kitty said to herself and to Hady. Then she took a step towards her partner and brought her elbow down, trying to do it exactly as she had just felt and seen Hady do it, and when Hady's wrist bent downwards she lifted her arm upwards. |

That something was rolling. Not away, but toward Ellery. He rolled his body on top of hers, pinning her down. She may still be grabbing her arm, but he was pinning her down. So who was really winning? |
Main Activity Post 1 Scarlett did not feel anywhere near ready to fight a REAL person and opted to hang out with the dummy a bit longer. It would be a lot easier to practice with someone who wasn't real - and she wouldn't feel bad about hitting back either. She turned back to her dummy, she held out her arm and sure enough, the dummy grabbed her wrist. And it grabbed HARD. Remembering that the professor had told them to drop their elbow, she did right away, and was surprised to see that it actually WORKED. The dummy's arm twisted and looked like it was locked in place, which meant it was time for her to make her move... BOOM! She jerked her knee up right into the dummy's stomach, and even though it stumbled back, it didn't let go of her wrist. So she stumbled along with it, letting out little yelps of discomfort as her trapped wrist twisted and turned with it. UGH. That wasn't going to work... |
Post 2 (Hugo) Text Cut: Hugo Brooklyn had kept eyeing the dummies, still considering whether or not those would be better than waiting for a partner to present themselves. There was always Hady, of course, but she had a feeling this was one lesson they probably wouldn’t work well together in. Just since she definitely wouldn’t want to hurt the other girl, even accidentally. She knew she was capable of doing damage, after all, even if she was fairly certain the dummy she’d attacked before was back amongst the group. Possibly even attacking one of the others who hadn’t partnered up. However, out of the corner of her eye she saw someone moving toward her and prepared herself for a possible attack. She didn’t trust half the others not to try something, but at the voice she turned to see Hugo, giving him a curious look. Had he seen her earlier moves on the dummy? “I wouldn’t worry about that,” she replied. The being gentle part, that is. Obviously the professor didn’t want them breaking each other’s wrists or anything, or he wouldn’t have provided the protective gear. There was still the question of who was going to attack first, though. Part of her was guessing he was planning on doing so, given his comment about being gentle. |
Post 5 SPOILER!!: Kitty There really wasn't to much that had to be done when it was the other girls turn. The fifth years job was as simple as pie. Just hold onto Kitty's wrist until the girl had freed herself from her grasp. Easy as one, two, three. Hady kept herself relaxed and her hold on her partners wrist firm. The feeling of her wrist being bent downwards was a strange one but at least it didn't hurt. Plus only a few moments later her hold on Kitty was no more. "Nice work! See it wasn't that tough to do. Do you want to try again?" Nothing wrong with getting I as much practice as they could. |
Post 2 "I'm impressed, all my dad did is to sign me up for judo class," Henric grinned. He had met her father once before at her family ranch, not someone he could easily approach but better in comparison to her mother. Henric quickly put on his own gears and glanced back up at llia again. He chuckled, "We're not sparring each other, pumpkin, its the dummies we're going after!" Of course, Henric knew she was only teasing. "But... since you asked, the answer would be grabbing you and sweep you off your feet." He winked. The dummies were advancing towards them now. Henric stepped closer by her side. "I'll back you up, llia," he gave a thumbs up towards her. He was ready to shot his fist up to the dummy's face if ever it tried to swing its mechanical arms at them! |
