What ball would be complete without a dance floor and a buffet with lots of delicious food piled high on it?? If you're ready to put on your dancing shoes, head over to the large, sparkle-infused dance floor with your friends (or maybe that cute stranger in the mask over there!) and dance the night away. There is music provided by a Ghostly Quartet, but chances are you'll recognize a good chunk of the music on the playlist the ghosts are playing from...
Need some food? Then take a break on the side of the dance floor, where delicious treats have been arranged neatly on a long buffet table. Tiny finger foods such as spicy lobster rolls, reishi stuffed meatballs, and shimmering shrooms can be found if you want a nice little pick me up. Or, seasoned pumpkin souffle, raspberry-glazed pork chops, traditional shephard's pie, and more are available if you're looking for a larger meal. Don't forget to try one of the many delicious (and completely unhealthy) desserts lovingly prepared for the event, as well as topping it all off with something cold (and sweet) to drink.
"Opheliaaaaaaaa!" Tora called as they, her and this boy, twirled past a group of girls standing just off to the side. No reply? Okay, next group. "OOOOOOOOOphheeeelia!" Some strange glances, but no girl was rushing towards them to claim her man. Although the strange glances brought up a good point: they probably looked very strange. Tora didn't care, this was more fun than sulking about with no friends.
"I don't think snatching a candy from a girl's hand is very gentlemanly," she admonished between shouts of 'Ophelia'. "But I do expect you to deliver on that promise, you know. Next Hogsmeade trip I want a nice basket delivered to my dorm, thank you very much."
"OOOOOOOPHHHHEEELLIAAAAAAA"
Another thought occurred to her.
"Or House if we're not in the same house."
Hop right, hop left, circle partner.
"OOOOPHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELIA"
Step, step, step, spin, glide.
"Or just mail it by owl post?"
It was starting to sound like she was shouting 'Oh! Feeeeeela!' now, which might be part of the problem. If the girl couldn't recognize her name that might be why she wasn't coming. Ahem.
"OPHELIA"
"Ophelia!" Still no answer. He was starting to think she wasn't going to show at all. If he were by himself, he probably would have left by now. But he had found a friend, and she was very beautiful tonight. They were getting a few strange looks from people. They were probably just upset that the two were bothering the dance floor. He decided to stop calling out her name. If she were ever going to come, the students have heard them enough. They would be able to point her to him.
Spin.
"Well, darling, I'll let you in on a little secret." He looked around, as if there could be no one who could hear what he was saying. "I'm not normally a gentleman. The whole attire is making me feel very formal. I figured I might as well play the part." Hopefully she didn't go running for the hills when he told her. Not like there were any hills in the area. Nor could she get very far in the shoes she was wearing.
He sighed. "I think we should stop now. If she were here she would have said something to us by now. She's been upset lately, so I wasn't entirely sure she would make it. But that's alright, at least I found you." He looked at the girl with thankful eyes. The gold mask seemed to make his already blue eyes even bluer. Which one wouldn't think possible. He had some extremely blue eyes to begin with.
Should he tell her his house? He didn't see why not. It wasn't like she was a stalker or anything. He remembered back to the defense against the arts class that the Headmistress taught. She told them to be on their guard as much as possible. Even in the comfort of a dance, something could go wrong. Centaurs could run through the dance floor and start stealing students for all he knew. He made a mental note of the wand in his jacket pocket.

Either way.
...and OH! With the taking pictures. Gabriel usually wasn't one to jump at the photo-opportunity but...Well, why not? The excess of calming draught was still working its wonderful magic and he had no idea who this girl was...and she didn't know who he was, either. So, it was essentially hurting no one. Did girlfriends get mad when you took pictures with another girl? "Would you care to take one with me? A photo, I mean?"
Gabe was quite enjoying this anonymous business. They should do this more often!
Nibbling on her food she listened and nodded, "Ooooooooh riiiiiiight, that makes sense." Of course they described who the person was by their masques "Brilliant plan" Bravo prefects, she was just so enjoying herself, though there was someone missing.... maybe. Could she pick him out if he was here?
Oh well she was here to have fun and fun was what she was doing. "Everyone looks so lovely, I wish I knew who they were so I could tell them!" Silly countercharm, why didn't she remember it.
Her bright green eyes turned back to the boy, "I would be honored to take a picture with you." She adored pictures and her students so why not get pictures taken. It was all for fun. Or was this person not a student, she gave him a look before decided he had to be a student. Yes, he just was.. she thought... hoped.

Maddox was officially over this man. How did one get punch from whatever the hell he'd managed to force out with his tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth like this? No, Airey was just being difficult, this was a new level of ridiculous even for him and Maddox wasn't sure how to deal. The man openly facepalmed when Airey blindly waved over at the Headmistress but the facepalm doubled as a response to the fact she WAS ignoring them and doing an awful lot of giggling.
Merlin what was WRONG with everyone tonight??? Did someone mess with the punch? Some draught of craziness or the other.
Again, this spell was a bad idea. Fully fed up, Maddox grabbed at his own wand while shoving at Airey to let go of him. If he persisted at this much longer, the man was likely to give him a real fright of the feline persuasion.
Waiting for the Headmistress to give her final orders on this one, the professor was taken completely by surprise when he was being shoved out of the way. Losing his balance, he could either let go of the wand to stable himself...or he could be stubborn and continue to hold on to it. Well, in his moment of indecision, Airey both lost hold of the wand AND fell to the ground on his left side.
"OOOOOOOPH," he gasped as the wind was knocked right out of his chest. At least something came out of all this? The Hufflepuff had just sealed his fate. Scampering to roll himself on to his stomach so he could push himself up off the ground and...well, er, do SOMETHING to that student for hurting his suit. AGAIN! Only when he rolled on to his stomach, he found his face hovering over a pair of shoes.
Lady's shoes.
Having the good sense not to look up immediately, his ears blushing at the mere thought of doing so, he crawled back a few paces and then looked up.
Sweet solstice...she was captivating...
What had he just been about to do? Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuh....

"Ravenclaw, you?"
Tora hoped she was playing the part of a graceful dancer as well as the guy she was dancing with was playing the part of a gentleman. She wasn't naturally clumsy, just not the most careful of people, preferring instead to devote her energy into figuring out the answer to her latest question instead of making herself look good. That's what make up was for, no?
"Well, I don't normally play the lady," she said, mimicking his conspiratorial voice. "So you see, you're not the only one."
Wait, stop? Tora stumbled a couple steps until her brain caught up with what he was saying. "Ohh you mean stop shouting out for Ophelia... Right," she said out loud. For both this boy's sake and Ophelia's she hoped that Ophelia could make it. If Tora was having fun dancing, then so would this girl, and since apparently she was upset it could do her some good. Besides, if Ophelia didn't like the dancing, she could always admire her partner's blue eyes.
Although it came as a surprise, Tora didn't fumble the steps this time when he mentioned his house. "Really? I'm Ravenclaw too!" Tora's mask slipped a bit as she moved her eyebrows in surprise. "Wait," she said, raising a hand to adjust her mask.

Ah, so she wasn't a lady either. "I guess it's part of the magic of the night." It seemed as though everyone was on their best behavior tonight, which was good. After the crazy events that happened during the year, the students deserved a peaceful night. Hopefully he didn't speak too soon.
Spin, spin, step and step. Was he doing this right?
Austin chuckled as the girl missed a few steps. "Yes, I meant calling out for Ophelia." He spun the mysterious girl out and twirled her back into his arms. Hopefully that was elegant. He saw a few other boys do the same thing and it looked like fun. Actually he thought it was quite fun. It was cool how her dress spun out when she twirled. If the girl thought it was fun, maybe he could do it again. He never thought he would love dancing so much. All the guys in the dorm said it would be boring, but it was fun.
"That's perfect! It will be easier to give you those quills." He looked at her and shook his head. "I'm sure you'd be able to remember this" He said as he gestured to himself. "But I won't blame you if you do know me, it's just an effect of the Great Hall." He chuckled again. Obviously he was joking around, hopefully she wasn't offended. "No, but in actuality, you probably don't know, know me. I don't talk to people much, but you probably know what I did." His thoughts were brought back to the beginning of the year at the start of term feast. "At the beginning of the year, I got into a fight with a Slytherin boy." The news had gotten around the house fast, and he was positive that she had heard.
He lifted up his arm, and twirled the mysterious girl under his arm. He was positive he didn't know her. He hardly knew anyone in the house.
His grinned widened a bit when she actually decided to go along with the nicknaming thing, even with calling him that. Aw yeah, this event was getting better already.
"Great." Oh, but, hm, what to call her?? David considered that for a brief moment. "I dunno. Miss Awesome? Miss Pretty? Miss...I dunno, you can choose your own if you want." He'd gotten to choose his, so it made sense she should be allowed to choose hers if she wanted to. That was part of the fun, right?
Hmm, options, options. Hayley considered his suggestions carefully, the whole two of them - her third being to make up her own, but that really wouldn't be the same. Nope. Miss Pretty was sweet, Hayley admitted silently to herself, but..
"Miss Awesome, it is." Because it made her smile even more, and because it reminded her of something her best friend would have chosen for her.
Turning her attention briefly toward the dance floor, the Ravenclaw resisted the urge to unnecessarily adjust her mask, not at all use to wearing one of course. Listening to the song change, grey-blue eyes moved from her dancing peers to the boy again, and she tilted her head slightly. "Do you know how to dance?"

I love you all,
Class dismissed.
It'd been an evening filled with unearthly music and living interaction...but it was nearly time to disperse for sleep and dreams.
Midnight drew near.
Lifting his bow off the cello strings, Bergerus moved forward; indicating that a hush fall over the captivated crowd. The other members of the Quartet also ceased in their playing.
"It's been a pleasure playing for you all this evening." They weren't quite finished yet...but they had been asked to remind the party-goers of a bit of business in the back. "Do remember to vote for your 'Best Dressed' choices...A dashing boy and a lovely girl each, please."
Could he tell because of her amazing fashion sense, whoever he was? Yes? Right? Finally, some appreciation! Ruby was so pleased by this that she didn't even point out that he was on the verge of failure with the dancing thing with the bumping and almost squishing her feet. Good thing she was fast on them.
"It sure does, Romeo." She winked at him.
...
Noel stopped dancing and stared.
It was Ruby. No one else but Ruby. He could still not recognize her but it was her. In the back of his mind he wished his hand wouldn't get clammy. The fourth year contemplated running off but then he remembered something ...
... "so that's one thing off my bucket list," he said with a nervous laugh,"talking to Ruby Banner" he added, while mentally deciding the bonus points he needed to give himself because he had not only TALKED to Ruby Banner, he had danced with her AND she had kissed his cheek.
Wow.

He lifted up his arm, and twirled the mysterious girl under his arm. He was positive he didn't know her. He hardly knew anyone in the house.
Tora nodded her agreement. It really must be the magic of the night since she didn't get annoyed when her fellow Ravenclaw (apparently) laughed at her misstep. Perfectly normal confusion there!
He made up for it with the twirl though. Maybe she could convince him to do a double? It was worth a shot... but now he was talking about him and the house. Perhaps the twirl could wait for a lull in conversation.
She smirked when he gestured to himself like he was the icing on the cake and laughed when he twirled her again. She was having so much fun she almost didn't hear the bit about the Slytherin. When she came back to the regular dancing center her eyes were wide.
"You're that kid? Wow, didn't you lose...? I don't even know how many points." She said in shock, but still continued dancing. Though honestly she couldn't blame him, Tora herself had quite the hot head and had gotten into many a fight before, not to mention lost her share of points for the house. "Well, for all the points we lost and, I'm sure, detention time you had to deal with I hope you socked him a good one." she said vehemently. Of course she hadn't been right there next to the boys when the fight happened, but in Ravenclaw it had been told that the Slytherin was at fault. And how could a boy so gentlemanly tonight instigate such an argument?
But maybe he didn't want to talk about this. Maybe he just wanted to dance. Maybe he'd want to do a double twirl. Or well it was probably actually called a spin as she didn't go under his arm, just sort of...out. "Okay," she said. "When you twirl me in this time, twirl me back so you're behind me. Then grab my other hand and twirl me out the other way. Oh, and im not under your arm, it's like your arm is the string on a spinning top and I'm the top. Trust me, it's fun!"
Hopefully he would go for it, and hopefully she didn't botch her explanation. When she thought it over it was a tad bit confusing, but no matter! They could always try again if they didn't get it right the first time!

Which really just his fancy way of saying, yea he probably lost, but he wasn't going to admit it. "Actually, I didn't lose any points. That's the strange thing about it. I just got detention. Which really wasn't fun, but I expected to lose at least 25 points or something." It was the truth. Neither Gregoire nor Austin had lost any points. They just had to wash and polish a bunch of suits of armor. It really wasn't fun, although he did gain some muscle from it. "He had a broken nose by the end of the night." He winked at her.
Ah, alright. So he had done it wrong the first time. But he was glad she had found it as fun as he did. This was the most fun he had in a while, and the smile was something that hadn't been seen on his face for weeks. It's amazing what a masquerade could do. He laughed as he twirled her like a top away from him and then back again. It still amazed him that her dress could spin like that. He then twirled her out the other way, and then back again. It was crazy how much fun he was having.
"May I just say, you look amazing tonight." It was true that the girl looked great in her dress and mask. Although he didn't know what she looked like without them, so he didn't have a basis to compare. But nonetheless, she looked good. "And may I also say, thank you. You've really made my night special."

Was he still smiling? Why YES. Gabriel was still smiling. This girl, who he STILL didn't know or recognize, had bowed in a very...princely fashion and he laughed. An actual laugh. It was completely foreign and strange...but who was questioning it? Not him, just to be clear. There was just something about this night. He felt different...and that was okay.
Gabe needed a little 'different' in his life at the moment.
.......and yes, the potions were to blame. 95%.
When she asked for a name, it was nearly all blown as his first instinct was to say 'Gabriel'...but he caught himself...just as the G-sound left his mouth. "G....ahem, Gellert.".........Gellert? It was a legit name...according to history. So, nice save, Banner.
When in doubt...What would Grayson do? Fake a name? Gabe thought 'yes'.
Trying to push through his awkwardness, he carefully hooked his arm in hers, and began walking towards the dance floor. Now, TO BE FAIR, Gabe wasn't much of a dancer. He'd never properly danced with a girl before...besides his sister. When she'd barge into his room and FORCE him...Due to that, he'd kinda been put off the entire idea of it. So...this was big. HUGE.
"I apologize if I step on your feet."...because that COULD happen.
Eden smiled when he relayed what to call him. Gellert. "Gellert?" Gellert. That was a veeeeery nerdy name but Eden thought it was very CUTE nerdy. Hmm. He seemed like a guy who wore glasses. Her brain was turning.....nope. She had no idea who the heck this was.
Oh, how she would DIE if she knew it was Gabriel Banner....
"Um--I might step on things--" hopefully feet, since if she was stepping on anything else it might she had probably tripped the poor fellow. And she was hoping, for once, she wouldn't be a terrrrrible dancer.
She had a tiiiiiny sliver of hope of running into Phoenix...Phoenix H. Toros. Her love. Just thinking about him made the butterflies in her stomach soar...but...she didn't think this was Phe at all. He didn't have Phe's suavity or confidence or bounciness. Disappointing, slightly, but...she was enjoying this square-jawed bloke quite a BIT.
Maybe she'd kiss him.
Hmph.
"Okay so--" she smiled as she led him over to the dance floor. "Um..you can call me..." Merlin. "Lily." Lily was a flower, and flowers were in gardens, and her name was the ULTIMATE garden-AHEM-so...she liked it. Lily. Though, according to research, the Garden of Eden, as written about, was probably estimated to have been thought of, by the ancient Israelites, as somewhere where lilies didn't grow....but...Eden was overthinking this...a good bit. "Not my real name though, I promise." Heh. "Maaaaybe if you're lucky I'll tell you....eventually." Because she didn't know there was a spell.....did she? Gosh, she didn't. She was too mindblown by the masquerade. "The decorations...look so good..." she commented with a wide smile.
"I should bake the prefects something to thank them..."

Okay....So....how to do this....?
Looking around for ideas...Gabe seen that getting closer was definitely a requirement...and did just that, stepping fully into his masked companion's space. And because he wasn't Gabriel Banner...until midnight, that is, he smiled through whatever residual awkwardness remained. The bit that hadn't been taken out by the potions. Though, there might've been a slight tremble in his hands. It was strange touching someone that could or couldn't be Coral Bay.
"I might be terrible at this." Just a forewarning....as he laid a hand on her hip...and then, reached for one of hers with the other. This was how it was done, right? Double-checking himself, Gabe glanced around the dance floor again, relaxing slightly. Others were doing something similar. So, this wasn't out of place.
...and no one knew it was him. So, it COULD be done.
"It is impressive." He muttered after a moment, keeping his voice low...because it was odd complimenting himself in any sense. They'd all done their parts, of course. The house elves had handled the food...and Professors had worked some of the magic in the air. Adi and Zander had secured the Hippogriffs...Gabe had worked on the music, surprisingly enough. The Ghost String Quartet had been difficult to track down...but with some help, they'd been more than happy to perform...
......and without realizing it, Gabriel had been moving with the girl. Swaying, actually. Apparently, his body knew what to do.
"That's a...kind gesture. I'm sure they'd appreciate it..." Would she remember pumpkin flavored treats?

You've really made my night special."
As if Tora hadn't been having a ball of a time already, now she was complimented on her beauty. Compliments can really go a long way into making a wonderful night simply magical, you know? She gave her dance partner a big grin.
"You don't look too bad yourself. Very gentlemanly" she said in reply, inclining her head slightly in acknowledgement. Just then the song ended and she stepped back. Time for an elegant show of grace! She took a deep breath, balanced herself on one heel-clad foot, and executed a deep curtsy perfectly. Which was good considering she had no clue how that was going to turn out wearing heels. She had practiced, of course, in front of the mirror but had neglected to do so while practicing in her full regalia.
"It was my pleasure and thank you too," she said, meaning both for the dance and the night. "So, what'll it be? Another dance, walk around for a bit? Or will you leave me now to my own devices?" she asked hoping that the third option would be ignored as a joke. She liked having someone to talk to and it wouldn't hurt to get to know the members of her house better. This seemed like the perfect occasion.
Hear the clock strike midnight;
it's time to see if your guess is right.
The Cinderella spell has been lifted;
now you can see to whom you drifted.
Unmask yourself and look around.
The best costume will win a crown!
Eden felt as nervous as this kid seemed...would dancing with her be hard since she was wearing a CAPE? Probably but--when he took her waist, she smiled and fell into the moves with ease. It was....a bit easier than she had thought it'd be. She wasn't great-no, no-but she wasn't terrible either, and she was kind of just following his lead, taking his hand shyly and blushing madly...
Dancing was....a blushing matter, it seemed.
"Yeah....they've been through some rough stuff lately...and getting fluff I don't think they deserve..." Ahem. Referring to the Gregoire incident. She hoped Zander was okay, wherever he was....maybe THIS was Zander? OH gosh, she completely didn't get a Zander vibe from him, though..
As the song came to a close, the clock began to ring....and Eden felt a HUGE LUMP in her stomach. OH MERLIN. WAS IT MIDNIGHT ALREADY? Eden didn't want to take her mask off........she didn't even know what to do...but she wondered if her eyes were recognizable enough....on their own. She stepped back from the fellow and...eyed him up and down. His features coming into focus, she tilted her head to the side and wanted to GASP....
It was....it couldn't be--
She tore off her mask, breathless, her blue eyes wide. Ahem.
It was EDEN MCGEE. She was sure it was probably a huuuuuge disappointment--especially if it was who she thought it was.

Austin watched as she curtsied, a proper curtsy this time too, and bowed in response. "Trust me, darling, it was my pleasure." He was loving this formal, gentlemanly attire. He loved bowing and dancing, and calling his friend 'darling' and 'sweetie'. Hopefully she didn't mind. He didn't mean it to be derogatory or anything. It was all a part of the night. Plus, this girl he didn't know just said he looked gentlemanly in his suit, and in his mind that was just icing on the cake.
DING DONG
Suddenly a loud dong let the whole student body know that midnight had come. As soon as the clock struck midnight, it felt as though a strange air had been lifted from the room. Maybe that was the spell being lifted, which would be nice. But the stroke of midnight also meant that Ophelia hadn't shown for the event at all. He had half expected it, with the events with her friend and all. But there was always that small glimmer of hope that maybe she would show. It was alright though. He was mad with Ophelia Clarke, but at least the night wasn't in vain, and he hoped that his friend thought so too.
He decided to take his mask off, which may have seem uncool, but it was time she got to see him for himself. Plus, how else was she going to know who he was when he gave her that bag of candy. She didn't necessarily have to take off his mask, he was sure they would meet again.
"Actually," He began. And now his awkwardness was showing through. He looked nervous and to cover that up, he bowed again. "I would love it if you would accompany me for a stroll." He hoped him being a gentleman would cover his awkwardness. After he got up from his bow he held out his arm for her to either reject, or to take. He hoped for the latter, but she was a girl of her own choices. But he would love if he would be able to continue his night with the company of his new friend.

Were the nerves peeking through a bit? Gabe thought he'd had it under control...but perhaps his potion was FINALLY beginning to wear down a bit....Hand trembling? Yes. That always gave him away, didn't it?
...buuuuut he thought he'd been doing okay. Considering. This WAS all new to the awkward 'Claw. So, points for making an effort? He hadn't stepped on her feet, at least. Personal victories. It was important to enjoy those. His new philosophy.
...and Gabe had suddenly been at a total loss. After hearing that. Focusing on their dancing and keeping his head bowed, he silently agreed....but a valuable lesson had been learned. They would be better leaders now...IF they got asked back next term. It seemed impossible at the moment...but weirder things had happened. Like getting asked in the first place. ........Wait, it was midnight already?!
O_O
Suddenly feeling a sense of panic rising, Gabriel took a step back and ducked his face. He....He wasn't ready to be found out. He'd been enjoying the anonymity......This girl...whoever she was......Well...it was only fair, right? Perhaps....Gabe wasn't looking AT her...but he could see her arm movements...and she was removing her mask. So...it was his turn, wasn't it?
Cheeks flaming brilliantly, he slowly reached up, unbuckling his own. His was more steampunk inspired...So, it was very 'dangerous' looking in theory. Now that the magic wasn't muddling his mind, Gabe remembered that had been the theme; Ruby dressing in white like an angel...and him dressing in black like a demon. Role reversal, thank you very much.
No. Really.
Pulling the leather away from his face, he took a last deep breath, peeking up..........and that had NOT been the best idea. Not. At. All.
EDEN?!

Tora was just rising from her curtsy and smiling at what the gentleman was saying when-
DING-DONG
Tora looked around as all the attendants felt what must have been the spell that was keeping everyone's identities secret lift. Although she didn't know her partner any more now than before, it was fun to watch people's faces as they recognized who they had been talking to. Speaking of said partner, she turned back to him to meet him unmasked.
Whoa, cheekbones. It was her first thought because the dramatic night time ball lighting threw them into sharp relief. Her second thought was that he looked younger than she had thought when talking to him. At first, she remembered, she had thought him young, but then after talking and dancing he had seemed older. Now she wasn't so sure. Hmm. Should she ask his year or guess? Guessing seemed more fun, Tora decided after some thought, and it didn't really matter much to her what year his was. He spoke eloquently enough to communicate with someone her age.
Suddenly, she realized that this inner debate about his age had caused her to stare, probably unnervingly though she hoped not, for at least a minute. Not wanting to further any awkwardness between them Tora reached up and removed her own mask, revealing her regular old face. With not so regular old makeup. Her eyes had heavy eyeliner like always, but she had added sparkly eye shadow and eye jewels. These accents couldn't really be seen under a mask, and even if they were they would probably be mistaken for the mask itself. Tora still put them on. They made her feel pretty and, well now, they had a use.
"That would be grand," Tora said, taking the young man's offered arm. "Since the ball seems to be ending now, shall we head inside or do you think there is sommat else going on tonight?"
Were the nerves peeking through a bit? Gabe thought he'd had it under control...but perhaps his potion was FINALLY beginning to wear down a bit....Hand trembling? Yes. That always gave him away, didn't it?

Yep.
All was revealed.
It was GABE BANNER.
Eden sucked in and tried to remain....standing. And not on the ground. Fainted. Ahem.
Gabriel was staring at her, and Eden felt her face flush as she frowned. "I apologize for....wasting your time." She said simply. The mustached girl didn't know what else to say because she KNEW he DESPISED her...and the feelings were mutual, but Eden felt like his dislike of her was stronger than her dislike of him.
He was probably hoping for CB....alas, it was just Eden, and she stepped away. "I--should go--" she wasn't in the mood for dancing at all. She couldn't even distinguish how she felt. She wasn't disappointed it was Gabe--in fact, she was more disappointed on his behalf that it was HER he had to deal with. She was a little confused...why had they gotten along well when MASKED? Eh? HMM? This was the boy she had........UGH.
She turned red. He would probably make a comment about....wanting to wash his hands any second now...and she didn't want to hear it. She turned to head upstairs-to her dorm--

Gabriel wasn't even sure....HOW.......he felt at this revelation.
There was no eloquence to be found...as he simply continued to STARE at Eden McGee. He'd...been within snogging distance of her. He'd....put his HANDS on her.....Why these particular thoughts were sticking out to him above all others, he'd never be able to articulate. Just....whut?
Still slightly dizzy, he took additional steps back, beginning to shake his head; slowly at first and then, with more vigor. At what, he couldn't rightfully say. From shock? Maybe. At her self-deprecating? Maybe. Just.....
.
.
Still staring? Yep. Still dizzy? YEP.
"N-no....It's......" Merlin, he was CONFUSED. He had NOT expected it to be her...........Of course, NOW that he was thinking about it...he DID provide her with potions. And...if the mustache wouldn't come off, she WOULD seek him out...because she always did...when she needed something of that nature....
Wow. Gabriel was an idiot...and that did NOT feel great to admit. Even just to himself.

It was...what? Eden turned to stare at him, hands on her hips. "Hmm?" she asked, unable to string more than a few words together. She was immediately on the defensive, and she hated that she felt like this. Like she was about to be ATTACKED or something...
GOD she was so STUPID. Now he knew she had done STUPID things with her mustache situation--of COURSE. He was going to find out TOMORROW but...SHE HAD OPENLY ADMITTED TO HIM ABOUT IT. Ugh. UGH. And she had complimented him--merlin, THOUGHT HE WAS ATTRACTIVE. NO.
Just..no.
Not only for her own reasons, but for CLARA reasons, she felt TERRIBLE. SIMPLY AND RESOLUTELY terrible.
"Look we'll pretend this never happened. No one will eeeeever find out you touched me...okay?" since he was probably CLEARLY worried about his reputation. Eden was terribly focused on the self loathing right now. And.........thinking of how she had WANTED to kiss him when he was myster!man...and now..no. NEVER. Not ever....for Clara.

Snort.

No. That wouldn't work. Did Eden McGee not understand that one Gabriel Banner was already pretending that certain things hadn't happened?! Or....attempting to, at least. It was bloody difficult, thank you. And.....Well, it never really worked. He'd consumed his weight in dreamless sleep potion...if she didn't believe THAT ONE to be true.
Sigh.
This is how the Clara dreams had started. Something innocent, kinda...and then...
Wow, his head really hurt. Hello, stress migraine.
"Don't tell Clara." Seriously. Don't. Gabe didn't want to deal with that backlash. It was one of those situations where a simple explanation would never be good enough and people would feel betrayed because of things he'd said...and MEANT, FYI.
Was that all?...After a few more moments of...awkward blinks and equally awkward staring, Gabe decided to extend the olive branch. A LITTLE. "This....could've been more awful, in theory." Translation: He'd enjoyed talking to her. Huh, who'd have thought Eden McGee could hold a conversation that didn't involve....things.

Right. Eden was prepared to hear that. 'Don't tell Clara.' She had never.....not told Clara something...and this would feel too weird to keep from her, but she'd certainly TRY not to tell Clara. But she was the best friend...the soul mate, the SISTER. Eden gulped and nodded. "I'll...certainly try." She said softly as she tucked her hair behind her ear.
Wait...did Eden detect a....hidden compliment? A very VERY hidden compliment? Had he enjoyed this, like, REALLY enjoyed this? Eden had, too, and to be frank, she was sad midnight had come and ruined it. It would have been better, say, if they had danced the night away, talked about silly things and...found each other out in the morning...alas, though, that wasn't how this night worked, and she frowned a bit...
"I--yeah--you--you weren't terrible at dancing," she got out, her blue eyes flickering to the clock. And then she remembered he had commented on her eyes, and she felt her cheeks rise in a rosy blush. "I, uh, tried not to..you know..st-step on your feet."
Sigh.
This was just too much. TOO MUCH.
"And your mask looks cool--and you DO have a nice jaw--and I WILL need your help tomorrow--" HA. IT seemed the compliments, sprinkled with a dash of OH PLEASE HELP was all flowing freely from her mouth at once.

SPOILER!!: The time had come. Dun, dun, DUNNNN...
Ahh, yeppers. Benny was indeed a good friend. It was almost a shame that Adi had to accept the complement directed at the other boy. Well, at least Benny knew what an awesome friend he was since Adi had let him know that before. "Interesting. You two have the same fear. Loosing each other, I mean.'' Adi did NOT want to think about that prospect. His days would be dark if AJ left him. DARK, I tells ya. Another small Dragon- like smile. "I have my moments.'' Nope. Benny spent a whole lot of time among books and it always seemed to Adi his bestie had a whole lot of knowledge.
Oh darn! The Hufflepuff really wanted to laugh at that suggestion. "You can design it if you like. I would let Angel do it but she might make me a pink one.'' Annnnd with a reply like that, he BARELY managed to keep from grinning. But seriously, nothing was wrong with being shy in his books.
Feel the music. Now that was something Adi could do VERY well. And with the awesome music currently playing, it was even easier for him to do so. Why? Because practically all the compositions were familiar to him. "I think I can do that much. When you have a best friend who likes music so much, it's something you can learn to get used to.''
Was it just sweet how much she wanted to find him and he was right there? "Duties comes with the badge, right? Don't worry. You'll find him. Or maybe he'll find you.'' Luckily she had that unicorn necklace on. Adi wasn't sure he would have been able to recognise her in the dress. Uh oh. Talk of Angel and Benny. Now, Adi already knew that Angel was all over in love with his friend but he also knew Benny... a whole lot more reserved and he had not even said those three words to Angel as yet. "Yes, I can.'' Time to steer the conversation in a different direction, yes? Before he slipped up with something he didn't know about or wasn't supposed to say. "How about a spin?'' Adi lifted his hand that was holding AJ's up so that she could have a twirl.
Still out of character here. Yup.
Man, this conversation with Benny was pretty deep. This was the longest she had been serious in a long time. In fact this might be a personal record. This probably had a lot to do with the boy standing in front of her. Benny was not one to goof off a lot. He was definitely the more serious type. Deciding to lighten the mood a bit, she appeared to blow off the seriousness of AJ losing Adi. "Can you blame him? Who would want to lose this?" Truthfully, she would be a mess, and all she could hope for was never having to experience that. Moments was a good way of putting it. HA. "That you do." He really was a nice balance to Angel.
AJ laughed. "You would definitely get a pink one if she got her hands on it. Come to think of it the mask would probably be full of glitter and you better believe it will be fluffy." Just the thought of it made her want to gag. If he wanted something at all manly, AJ was the one for the job.
Dancing totally wasn't that hard and Benny was starting to realize that. "Music is awesome. What is your favorite kind?" It was weird to think that even though Benny was one of her best friends that she didn't really know that much about him.
Duties, yes. Ugh. "I never want to be a prefect. It's so much work, and for what?" She got that Adi loved it, but it was way too much responsibility for her. "The power is pretty awesome." It was more than awesome. Okay, that was the only cool thing about prefect stuff. Hmm... he was definitely avoiding the love thing, and maybe AJ was being too pushy about it anyways. A spin? YES. AJ wanted in on that action.
Halfway through her twirl she heard a noise that sounded like a clock dinging. Could it really be that late already? Maybe it was the music that she was confusing the sound for. As she came full circle she looked back up at Benny. "That was fun. Would you---" Her words caught mid sentence because that wasn't Benny that she was looking up at.
"Adi?"
Her mouth was hanging open and all she could do was stare. He looked so handsome that for a moment she couldn't believe he was hers. The whole night she had thought about him and wished that he had been by her side, and he was. So many words wanted to come out of her mouth, but all she could do was stare. He made her think he was Benny, and she totally bought it.
Tora was just rising from her curtsy and smiling at what the gentleman was saying when-

Wow. That was all he could think as the girl took off her mask. She definitely was beautiful. But she also looked older, which he hoped wasn't too much of a problem. Austin was a third year, and although he seemed older, he was still only 13. She also had some weird gems on her eyes which did accentuate her blue eyes, but was it really necessary? She did spend the majority of the night under the mask, so no one really saw them until now. At least people saw them.
The last thing the third year wanted was to go inside. Going inside meant that the night had to come to an end, and he really didn't want that. He was having so much fun, and it was kind of nice to have a pretty girl he didn't know on his arm. There was an air of mystery about her, even with her mask off. "I think the ghost said something about picking a girl and boy for something. But if you wanted to leave, that would be alright. There's no way I'd be picked. I don't know anyone who would vote for me." And the one girl who would wasn't here right now. "But you on the other hand, you should be the one who wins. You're really beautiful." He felt that it needed to be said again. To let her know it wasn't the mask that made her look good. She made the mask look good on her.
"Me, on the other hand, I just don't want the night to end." He lead the girl to the dessert table. He hadn't had any dinner, and he knew it was too late for any, so he decided on candy to satisfy his hunger. He picked up a few candied feathers and handed them to the girl. "For you M'lady. I promise I won't steal them this time." As for himself, he picked up more of the candied fairy lights. They really were delicious, and he hadn't had any in a long time.
