Walking through the first floor corridor and up to the classroom for the final History of Magic class of the term, you are of course greeted by the sign outside the door. You are likely not surprised by this sight as it is now pretty much a fixture of this end of the first floor and as always, Professor Glendower leaves the message up to the individual to interpret.

Once inside the classroom, you might notice the very faint yet upbeat tempo music playing in the background. Professor Glendower is at her podium, humming along and creating origami animals out of squares of paper. Come in and take a seat... class will begin soon!
I Can Accept Failure. But I Can't Accept Not Trying
Jordan continued to listen to Professor Glendower as she explained the activity for the day and the upcoming homework. He had to invent something, all on his own. He thought to himself, Oh boy, I have no idea what I should invent. This homework would definitely take him some great thought and concentration.
As he put the thought of more stress of homework aside, he began to look inside the box that Glendower was talking about in her lecture. All the objects looked incredibly interesting, but none caught his eye like the Headless Hat. Jordan thought to himself, How can there be a hat for headless people? Now this is magic. Nevertheless, this led Jordan to sort of think of different possible creations, especially inventions that would be helpful to animals, such as shoes that go on horses while they ride and the shoe would be able to change the type of shoe based on the environment. So if it were sunny, it could resemble a gigantic gym shoe, and in the winter it could resemble an enormous winter boot, but for horses.

Okay so now that he had figured out the screaming thing.... He started to scope out the rest of the room, trying to figure out who to listen to. It looked like most people were busy with the inventions, too busy to have secretive conversations that would be any fun to listen up on. These extendable ear things weren't really fun in a classroom setting, huh?
Either way, he tried to send one end over near Adi, who looked like he was having a lot of conversation, but the Gryffindor didn't really understand any thing he was saying since it was all out of context, nor did he really care to spy on Adi too much. Adi was nice.
But right, anyways. Maybe he'd just have to give something else a go because this whole extendable ear thing wasn't going all too great. Right, back to the invention box for this Gryffindor.
Norah skipped up to the box and poked around in it, looking for something cool to play with. Pulling a hat from the mess of objects, she skipped back to her seat and sat down, inspecting the hat closely. Hmmmmm. It didn't look very special, but it had to be awesome to be in the box, right? Right. With a shrug, the second year placed the hat on her head and waited for something crazy to happen. And it didn't. With a small frown, she picked the hat up off her mess of hair and put it back on again, making sure it was on nice and snug. But it still didn't seeem as if anything was happening, and she didn't feel very different with this funky hat on her head. So much for a cool invention. Norah got up from her seat and walked back to the box, hoping SOMEBODY could tell her what was going on with this hat 'cause she sure couldn't tell.
Wait. It was called a headless hat, wasn't it. WAIT. WOAH. Norah came to a halt on the way to the box and changed direction to face the mirror instead. And there she was! No head! She stuck her tongue out at her reflection and nothing happened. Crossed her eyes, and nothing. THAT WAS TOTALLY WICKED. Turning back to the box once more, the second year pulled the hat off her head and tossed it back, ready to try some other totally cool object from in there.

THESE WERE SO COOL!!
Lux had never used Omnioculars before, but she could definitely see why they would be popular at Quidditch matches. Maybe she would ask her parents if she could have a pair at a Christmas. Her birthday would be better, but it was June 1, so there wasn't a lot of time seeing as it was May.
Gazing through the Omnioculars, she could see Zeke acting like a headless zombie and scaring a Slytherin girl. Maybe it was mean, but that boy sure was adorable; Firsties were so cute. Smiling, she zoomed in on the two as closely as possible before zooming out again. Pretty cool and they were like binoculars in this way except binoculars didn't have rewind buttons, and speaking of which as soon as Lux found it she replayed the scene. Hahaha, that was awesome. The next time she replayed it in slow motion.
Finished playing around she returned the Omnioculars to the box. Okay, she was supposed to come up with a new invention going off of the ones in the lesson as inspiration but so far she had nothing besides the one she was gong to do with Bay. She didn't want to share those details for the homework and keep it a surprise, so some brainstorming was needed.

Jordan continued to mess around with the Headless Hat as the fact that a Headless Ghost could wear a hat. Jordan thought he was brave enough and decided to try on the Headless Hat, even though Jordan was clearly not headless. He grabbed the hat and placed it on his big, round head firmly and tight. As he looked into the mirror he noticed that his head disappeared as he stared into the mirror.
WOAH! Jordan was very intrigued by this invention even though they serve absolutely no purpose in terms of usefulness, so in result of that, he decided to move on to the next object in the box.
As he continued looking through the other objects, he noticed something extravagant with the Omnioculars. They looked extremely similar to the muggles' version of binoculars, however, binoculars only allowed you to see closer. These Omnioculars allowed you to replay what you saw like on television. Apparently they were originally used for viewing World Cup Quidditch Matches especially when the viewer is light years away from seeing the chasers, beaters, and seekers.
It didn't take very long at all for Toby to finish taping up bits of parchment until he had one long scroll. Sure, it wasn't the NEATEST thing in the world, 'cause Toby had never really been that great at little intricate sort of things, but it was still okay. The Spellotape had served his purpose.
Toby held it up in front of him to sort of admire his work, still musing on why Spellotape was invented in the first place. He supposed there was some stuff that magic couldn't fix, but surely if such a thing existed it was probably something pretty powerful which was beyond the help of tape. Or... maybe it had just been someone like HIM who'd invented it, someone who preferred to do things the manual way? OR maybe certain spells hadn't been invented yet. It was all very plausible, he thought, as he began to roll the megaparchment up into a scroll.
Once that was all rolled up and could be kept tidy and out of the way, Toby placed it to one side and set the roll of Spellotape down beside it too, before turning his attention to the coveted Omnioculars. He wasted absolutely no time in holding them up to his eyes and peering around the classroom, having to fiddle with a few of the knobs and dials so that everything wasn't TOO magnified. Y'know, it'd be good to be able to see things.
Toby remained like that for a moment, getting used to the things and looking all around him at the classroom and its inhabitants, before starting to mess around with some of the settings to see what these things could do.
Norah had just stuck her hand in the box when she recoiled suddenly after feeling something...weird in there. Like fleshy kind of weird. Letting her curiosity get the better of her, the Hufflepuff reached in again and grinned as she pulled out what looked like a flesh-colored piece of string. Extendable ears! WOAH.
Prancing back to her seat, the second year sat down and laid the ear down in front of her, eyeing it closely. So did she put it into her ear or talk into it or what? She ran her fingers over the surface of the object and picked it up between her thumb and forefinger. What was it even made of? Whatever it was, it was WICKED AWESOME. Bouncing slightly in her seat, Norah surveyed the room for someone to eavesdrop on. Hehehe. She could be queen of the WORLD with these things!

After setting the extendable ears back into the box, the Gryffindor began to rummage through the rest of the items. There were so many possibilities, but one thing kept catching his eye. Probably because it was reflecting all the light from the classroom and looked super shiny and all: The two way mirrors.
He picked up both of them, assuming they came together as a set, though he really hadn't a clue as to how he was supposed to use them without anyone else to help out. Maybe if he called himself using them, and then left one on the other side of the classroom? Hmm.
Taking them back to his desk, the Gryffindor laid them out on top of the table and stared. How the heck was he supposed to get them to work without someone to use them with? And he would ask someone else, but they all looked too busy trying to get their own things to work.
He could figure this out on his own. Totally. Super smart Gryffindor coming through. Just had to think was all. Think, Z. Think.
I Can Accept Failure. But I Can't Accept Not Trying
Jordan finished up trying out the fascinating Omniocular and placed it neatly back into the box. He then began to shuffle around the other objects that were in and around the box. One that really intrigued him, definitely more than the hat, was the foe glass. The foe glass was a mirror but instead of showing his reflection, it showed the possessor's enemy. In his case it was a huge tarantula, a tarantula because when Jordan was younger he had a very bad experience with them and has since, been extremely afraid of them thus quickly putting the foe glass back where he found it.
His face turned red, and his muscles ached as he remembered the pool of tarantulas that were attacking him viciously before his Uncle Xavier pulled it off of him before any fatal damage could occur. To quickly get rid of this memory he focused all of his concentration on looking around at the other objects he hadn't discovered yet.

It seemed he had found a prank item which made the weird look of the hat make some sense. It got your attention but most times it wouldn't be noticed at all, especially when it was worn by someone and the head and hat were gone.
"I believe you have me confused with Sir Nicholas...dear sir," he mused before he reached up and slowly slipped the hat back off his head. Gradually his head reappeared until it had fully returned once the hat was solely in his hand. Shame the Gryffindor ghost couldn't wear one of the hats. He would indeed be allowed on the Hunt then.
"Yup, you are very much headless, Benny,'' Adi replied cheerfully as he played back the scenes of the headless best friend. Hehe. It was so creepy yet cool to see a headless person.
Adi laughed as he set the Omnioculars back in normal mode, just in time to catch Benny removing the awesome hat. "Looky, Dragon. Your head's back. And it isn't a pumpkin." Hehe. The Hufflepuff hit the dial again that replayed. He watched the other boy's head reappear then he made it disappear again. Annnnd repeat that. LOL.
Angel decided that she wanted to try something else, she put the foe glass in back in the box and took out the Extendable Ears, she knew what these things did... she actually was going to try and get a pair for home when she could because it would be awesome to figure out what was going on.
Angel decided to see what was going on with her friends... she used the Extendable Ears to try and listen into them, it would be amazing if she could actually hear what Benny was saying, she knew her boyfriend was amazing but why was Adi acting weird with him... she had no idea why anyone would find Benny scary he was just so handsome and amazing.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
It must have been the second or the third go around the classroom before Lex finally found something she could use to get the full power of the omniocular. The Gryffindor had never been particularly interested in dance, not by a long shot but it was an action which meant it could be slowed down like so.....and replayed like this....
She bet her cousin might have appreciated it, if she was still into this dancing stuff of course...hard to tell these days from what Dax was saying but then the kid had been a known moper when things weren't going his way, might have exaggerated a few things about his sister. Alexa zoomed in on the Ravenclaw, noting the turns and such. Was it Jasmine doing half that stuff or purely the shoes?
Maybe she'd ask after, if she could remember but for now she played with the gogs and gears on its surface. Can you imagine how much more epic Quidditch could be?????
Aaaaand now the Gryffindor missed the sport all over again. She could probably go look at the Quidditch Pitch (with it's giant sink hole) and remember what it was like.

Who knew Glendower was such an entrepreneur? Maddie figured her shoes could do well on the market considering ALL the uncoordinated people in the world lacking rhythm and so she respected the product AND the woman at the front of the room for coming up with it. Didn't think she had it in her, honestly.
Today's activity was liked better TOO. The thirteen year old wasn't a fan of all the acting they USUALLY did so to be able to test products she'd seen in stores was MUCH more interesting. Maddie decided that the first SHE'D try out was one of the Headless Hats.
The pink feathers were a bit MUCH but after observing the style and weight of the hat carefully, the second year lifted it up and placed it on top of her head. Hm.
Norah inserted an extendable ear into her own ear and continued to scout out the room. Nobody even looked like they were talking! What was the fun in that? Shrug. Spotting Adi in one corner of the room, she sent her fleshy string over in his direction just 'cause he was the only one who was actually talking. Hmph.
And then he was talking to that friend of his like he was standing right next to her! WOOOAH. The second year kept bouncing in her seat and grinning as she held the stringy stuff more firmly in her ear, listening intently. She wasn't even listening to WHAT he was saying, just something silly about dragons, but the volume at which it was amplified from ALLLL the way across the room was crazy! If Fred and George Weasley weren't dead yet (or a bazillion years old, 'cause old people weren't as fun) they were gonna be her new best friends, yep.
Standing up from her seat, Norah yanked the extendable ear back in her direction and pulled the other end from her ear. She looked shiftily around in every direction to make sure nobody was looking, and slipped the bundle of the funny looking skin stuff into her pocket. The second year tried to seem inconspicuous as she went to try out another object, but even after only walking a few feet, the little puffer had become so guilty that she pulled the extendable ear right back out of her pocket and tossed it into the box. SIIIIGH. If she took it then Professor Glendower would be all sad! And she didn't want anybody so nice to be sad. SO there. Norah Kittredge was officially a good person, and maybe the Professor would let her come in and play with the ears some time!
Except that she was thirteen now, and thirteen year olds did NOT play. No way.

After quickly putting away the Omniocular, Jordan focused his attention to a strange object called the Sneakoscope. He had heard of this invention before. He had heard that this was a dark detector and apparently whistled whenever someone was doing something untrustworthy nearby. However, there was real no untrustworthy action or behavior going on nearby even though there was countless number of restless kids in a classroom.
Even when someone did do something that would be described as untrustworthy, he thought this invention was pointless and had no use, so he placed the Sneakoscope away back into the box and continued looking around in the box.

Well as much fun as wearing this hat was, the fact that no one was reacting to it made the whole thing pretty lame. Maddie gave it a few minutes and then removed the thing, placing it back in the box. She couldn't help but wonder if Sir Nicholas could use something like this to see what people would say if his head had been accurately severed. Did they MAKE products for ghosts? Was that a THING? She quickly scribbled down these thoughts in her notebook before returning to the box for the next product she'd test.
Self-stirring cauldron next, yes? She wanted one of these. Not for ALL potions because she knew you had to be particular with the number of times certain things were stirred but it'd definitely come in handy. Perhaps she'd ask Culloden if HE had one she could use as a test of sorts. Surely she'd earned enough of his trust by this point to make such a thing possible.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Alexa meandered her way through the sea of her classmates who were trying stuff out or returning the stuff until she hit the window on the far side of the class. This one had a good enough view with the right pair of eyes...which she happened to have thanks to the omnioculars. It was only a matter of situating herself then figuring which direction she needed to be facing and soon enough she was staring over at the Quidditch pitch.
JUST LOOK HOW LONELY IT LOOKED!!!
Lex leaned against the windowsill and stared out at pitch. Nothing out there now 'cept the house flags that were all flopped and such. She could remember them flapping around during matches and the contrast to now was almost depressing.
Out in the distance she could see birds fluttering around and opted to focus on them instead. They were doing that movement thing and making it easier for her to put this thing to use. There was nothing to it really. Only problem was the lack of an entertaining subject. Eh. Eh. Alright, she'd seen enough and was ready to put this behind her.
The Gryffindor launched away from the window and headed back to the box where she replaced the omnioculars and waited to be told that was it.

So...self-stirring cauldrons were cooler WITH a potion inside, JUST saying. Maddie was wondering if by looking at these items, SHE was meant to be inspired to create something TOO. She wasn't, not YET. It was a good try on Glendower's end, though. It really was.
Placing the cauldron aside, Maddie got herself one of the magical cameras and made her way around the room, deciding to capture her classmates in action. Too bad nobody had photographed HER when she'd been headless. She could've sent it to Benny. His reaction would've been priceless.
As Kace was trying to extendable ears, he was going next to the door to see if he could hear something in the hallway. He squeezed the other ear through the doorway. He couldn't hear too well because the classroom was noisy. He didn't blame the classroom because everyone was trying the inventions. BUT WAIT! He heard some commotion outside the door and this guy was venting to another guy it sounded like. He heard them loud and clear like they were right next to him.
They were discussing, well the one guy was saying how he got away with cheating on his potions final. Kace was smirking and laughing silently if only he knew Kace was listening to him. His friend was congratulating him and saying he wished he could have done the same thing. Knowing the extendable ears worked he fished the other ear from outside the door into the classroom and put them back into the trunk. Now which invention to choose next. He decided to try the headless hat.
elephant-astic•wanderlust•stay in the ninedaaays the original Taco Belle•look at the flowers✿
Using the camera made Maddie think of Mo. Buddy Mo. Marcus Branxton. Her first buddy at Hogwarts. She wondered if HE was still taking pictures and if they were of anything other than Cat, his not-an-actual-feline girlfriend. Hopefully so. She missed him sometimes. If only to have an older person around who she knew she could bug for advice when she wanted it. She also wished Dora was still around. Nigel was good in that his face was nice to look at so she SUPPOSED she missed him too.
Spotting a Hufflepuff with extendable ears, she snapped a few photos of him laughing to himself. Whatever he heard must have been funny. Who knew what kind of stuff amused the badgers. Maybe he'd seen a kneazle chasing after a toad and was tickled into laughter. She couldn't be sure.
After snapping a few more moving pictures of those around her, Maddie returned the camera to the box and rifled around for something else.
I Can Accept Failure. But I Can't Accept Not Trying
Jordan was shuffling around the different objects when he came across some adhesive tape called the Spellotape. However, this was no ordinary muggle tape, this tape could repair pretty much anything. He took his History of Magic textbook ,that was severely damaged after being ripped into several pieces, and used it on the textbook. It ended up putting all the pieces of the broken pages back together, which came as a surprise to Jordan because there was probably 20 pages missing and, or out of order.

Ah yes, the Quick Quotes Quill. This was a good find. Maddie smiled to herself and brought it over to her desk before taking a seat. After flipping to a new page in her notebook, she set the quill down and began to talk.
"Maddie Cooper is going to rule the world someday."
Simple fact, THAT was. The brunette gave the quill a second to get that down but was surprised to see the thing STILL writing. When it finally stopped, she glanced down at the parchment and raised her eyebrows. WELL.
Quote:
Maddie Cooper's eyes filled to the brim with tears as she spoke about her dream of finding the world's largest ruler. The second year spoke about her emotional past when she used rulers to crack open the windows in her family's estate when they couldn't afford to keep the place cool.
These things were sooooo super neat, and Toby was having some real fun in working out what all the different settings did. For the past few minutes now he'd been having some real fun in playing back a sort of wide-swept angle of the classroom over and over again, slower and slower each time. It was so cool how he could literally replay real life like that, and wouldn't it be awesome if there were a pair of glasses like this, so that when you wore them if you missed something important or interesting you could just rewind and slow down? That wasn't a bad idea for an invention, either, though it was probably a little too close in premise to these omnioculars.
From his super super super slow-mo replays, Toby twiddled a few of the dials and eventually managed to get it back to the regular settings. Now, what else...
Still looking through the Omnioculars, having not lowered them at all yet, Tobias eventually found himself looking at a window across the room. Perrrrrfect. He stood up, but remained at his seat, and started zooming them riiiiiiiiiiiight in so he could peer out onto the grounds. And the quality was remaining the same... these were amazing!
It was pretty obvious that these were for Quidditch and sports and stuff, Toby already knew that, because he was aware of the play-by-play option from reading about them in his many many Quidditch books. And he thought they fit their purpose quite nicely, and were awfully successful, given that they were sold at big Quidditch matches and stuff, and were so famous.

With the two mirrors still in hand, Zander sat at his desk in deep thought. How was he supposed to figure out how to use them, when he didn't have anyone to use them with. Hm, setting on of the mirrors on the desk, he held the other one up to his face. "Uh.. Do you even work?" he asked it out of frustration. Silly Gryffindor, mirrors can't speak english. Except, what he saw in the mirror wasn't his own reflection... Instead it was a perfect image of the ceiling.
Wait, they really did work!! They did work!!
Hoping out of his desk with a small grin in place, Zander walked all the way over to the other side of the classroom, where some of his other classmates were busy playing with other inventions. Leaving one mirror facing upright on them, he ran back to his own desk. It was like he had two pairs of eyes. One he could see everything from his desk, but now there was an entirely new perspective from the other side of the room!
It was almost like the extendable ears, but kind of like extendable ears and eyes!! Granted, normally the mirrors were probably used for communication and all. But this was pretty cool too. Wonder if anyone had ever thought about using them to be spies!

After being scared by the headless hat and having a play with one, Zhenya decided to put the extendable ears back in the box and picked out a quill. She looked at it and realised very quickly that it was a Quick Quotes Quill. What a mouthful! She took it back to her seat. She set it on top of a piece of parchment and had a think about what she should say…
"My name is Zhenya Burton, I'm fifteen and I'm a Slytherin."
She watched as the Quill wrote, then read 'Zhenya Burton, the brave twenty-one year old who is frozen in her fifteen year old body, returned to Hogwarts to partake in her fifth year of education, as a cunning Slytherin. Rumoured to be a descent of Salazar Slytherin himself, she bears little resemblance to her ancestor.'
Zhenya's eyebrows raised in surprise. What a load to RUBBISH! She was NOT an ancestor of Salazar Slytherin. She wasn't cunning, and she didn't think she was brave.
