Walking through the first floor corridor and up to the classroom for the final History of Magic class of the term, you are of course greeted by the sign outside the door. You are likely not surprised by this sight as it is now pretty much a fixture of this end of the first floor and as always, Professor Glendower leaves the message up to the individual to interpret.

Make an Entrance Respectfully
Once inside the classroom, you might notice the very faint yet upbeat tempo music playing in the background. Professor Glendower is at her podium, humming along and creating origami animals out of squares of paper. Come in and take a seat... class will begin soon!

Adi watched AJ come into the classroom, doing her awesome entrance. He grinned broadly as she sat down next to him. "Hi. That was super cool. You've got to teach me to do that in addition to all the other dance moves.'' He smirked, remembering the duel from earlier.
Oh! Someone else joined them. "Hey, Dragon.'' Smile. Adi was distracted as a origami Hippogriff came floating towards his seat. Eeeeep! So cool! And AJ got a Unicorn and Benny got a Dragon. Glendower knew their favourite creatures. That was so nice. "Thanks, Professor,'' the Hufflepuff called to the woman.
....................
Adi left his Hippogriff standing on the edge of his desk. He was going to keep it forever and name it Griffy. It would be Adi's Griffy. Hehe.
Okay...so inventions. Physical inventions, that is. Cool. After thinking about the question a bit, the fourth year raised his hand. "I think inventions are made because of the want or the need to make other peoples lives who use the inventions easier.'' Or to make money.
Cinna beamed. BEAMED. At the paper hummming bird. She was definitely keeping it forrver. It wasn't a duck, but it was the next best thing. Maybe after class she could see if Glen dower would make her a duck. Or better yet show her how to make one.
She played with the humming bird while she waited for class to start. Only looking up when she heard wheels. They were her wheels well now they were Zanders but she know the sound. She watched him roll in. Nice entrance Zander. She thought that he was going to fall. But he didn't. He was really started to get the hang of it. She gave him a thumbs up when he past her.
Oh boy class was starting. And goodness she had a answer, her hand shot up "To make something already invented better." Yep. That's what she needed to get doing.
Justine had no idea what she was doing in this class. She didn’t really care about history and honestly she could have used the time to do more interesting things, like plotting a good final prank and looking for places to rent in California… Or snogging, she could have been snogging.
Oh look, a little paper doe; that was cute. Maybe she could boobie-trap it and send it Jun’s way? She hadn’t pranked the Norean in ages.
She supposed she could answer the question, it would somewhat break the monotony, plus all these other replies were just… boring. “To make money, and become renown for their creation, perhaps for the betterment of others as well,” Justine said, shrugging as she gave her answer. That’s why she would, anyway.

Hmm… why indeed do people feel the need to invent something? She had a bit of a think, unable to really separate the thoughts of muggle inventions and magical inventions. Weren't they basically invented for the same reason? She raised her hand, "Professor things are invented to make things easier. For example… a broomstick may have been invented a looooooooooong time ago to make transport easier." Yeah, a bit like a car, she guessed, but this was magical inventions. And brooms were fun!

Jasmine smiled when Professor Glendower sent an origami goldfish her way. That was so cool, the way she made it swim over to her desk. When the Professor volunteered to teach origami to anyone who was interested, Jasmine's ears perked up. That was definitely something she would like to learn. She'd have look into that soon.
So they would be learning about Wizarding inventions. Before Jasmine could ponder that, the first question was posed, basically asking why people invent things. Raising her hand, Jasmine offered her thoughts. "I think most people invent things to make things easier for themselves. Many people can identify a problem, but the inventor finds a way around that problem. A lot of times you look at inventions and think, I wish I'd thought of that."

Aw yeah, origami rabbit for him. Toby grinned his thanks as he carefully plucked the paper creature from the air and inspected it. That was neat. Maybe he'd try and learn to branch out from roses to animals one day. Perhaps it would be an incentive for after the OWLs. Setting his new rabbit friend on the desk to act as a mascot, Toby looked up again as the class started.
Why do people invent things? Toby raised his hand to provide the very first answer that came to his head.
"For fun," he offered, with a big smile. "Like, because they find it fun to invent things, or because they want to invent things to make other people's lives more fun."

It seemed not everyone had the trouble with making an entrance into the lesson, Angel a perfect example. He couldn't help but watch as his fellow lion and girlfriend pulled some moves to get into the classroom, catching his attention out of the corner of his eyesight. Um...wow. Ben then heard the returned greeting from the professor causing his attention to turn to her as he took out some parchment and a quill from his bag. And it was then that he got another surprise.
An origami animal of his own on his desk.
An origami DRAGON!
"Thanks Professor," he said with a weak smile. Guess she learned a thing or two about him and his interest in the creature. Or just a luck guess. Whatever the case, class was begun and as Benny listened to what they were talking about, he worked on getting a thought on inventions. Though it seemed like his classmates had a pretty good grasp on the concept and whatever he could think of adding. He could wait for the next question.

A dragon? Hmm. Caleb wasn't sure why she had picked that one, but it was pretty cool. He smiled and pushed the little figure to the side of his desk before he took out his notes. Alright, inventions...he wondered what this had to do with MAGIC. When he heard INVENTIONS, he just thought...muggles. He was in the right class, right?
He raised his hand. "Well, people invent things when the current way of doing things can be improved. Usually to make something more convenient," he explained.

The origami animals were way cool, and Soph was amused at how delighted Tobes seemed to be with his rabbit. Seemed like a fitting choice for him, really, as she could see the similarities between him and a rabbit - both were cute, cuddly, bouncy, soft, and sweet, and it made her smile.
The topic Glendower presented to them also brought a curious sort of smile to the Ravenclaw's face, and she hummed thoughtfully, considering why she wanted to be an inventor, namely of potions. It didn't take her long to analyze a few reasons why, and her hand went up.
"Personally, I want to invent new potions, and I think it's mostly because... I want to help people, find ways to make their lives easier or enhance their lives and make things better for them in some way. Whether it be... for entertainment purposes or cures to bring people to full health or reverse an undesired ailment on the body, y'know?" She shrugged. "There's all sorts of things that haven't been invented yet, things that would make our lives easier, and we've gotta create those things to keep moving forward as a society. If we're not inventing things, we're essentially just... remaining stagnant. S'not much like the human race to wanna remain in its current state, is it? It comes down to betterment and curiosity - we wanna invent stuff to make things better and... maybe even fulfill our own personal goals, too, like challenging ourselves and wanting to be better in that way, too."
She shrugged again and crossed her arms in front of her. Made a lot of sense, didn't it?

Zander smiled at Professor Glendower at the sight of the origami frog, but then quickly furrowed his eyebrows at it instead. You know what the frog reminded him of? A certain chocolate. Otherwise known as Chocolate Frogs, aka something Zander had recently run out of. Merlin, this was tragic. He couldn't survive without them. It was a horribly thought out nightmare that finally came to life in the entirely worst way possible!!!
He needed MORE!
Maybe Glendower would have some extras since she did a lesson on them? He'd have to ask.
Back to the real world though, he listened curiously to all the answers and stopped at Sophie's. She had really thought this one through, huh? Zander wanted to raise his hand after her, but how the heck could he possibly give an answer that would compare to that? Though... He did want to say something too because he had thoughts on this one. Knowing tha his answer wouldn't be anything near as complicated as Sophie Brown's, Zander decided to raise his hand anyways.
"I think some people invent things to save the world," Kind of like a real life superhero, y'know? Or at least that was Zander's initial thoughts. "'Cause when you're faced with a problem and you can't solve it.. You have to come up with a new way, like a new invention and everything." He nodded a little before he continued, "So if things are going wrong you kinda have to solve them by invention." And therefore save the world in the process, yeah.

Oh... hello origami cat thing... Zeke eyed it as it sat on his desk. Was he supposed to do something with it??? Cause he was clueless. Though, once the lesson got underway and introductions were had, it became more clear - though he still wondered what he was supposed to do with it. Admire it? Treat it like a pet? .... Hhmmmm.
He liked creativity, so long as it wasn't of the dress-up persuasion, that got old quickly. Inventions though, now THAT was sounding like a fun topic. And of course, he had his own opinion. Hand raised, Zeke contributed to conversation. "Well see Professor, I think people might create inventions and think up knew things because it's an exciting adventure. Finding or creating something new that's out of this world or different to what we know is fun, and it's nice to feel responsible for something awesome like an invention." Not to mention all the fame and money and yeah.

A beam was apparent on her face when she sat down because not only did she get an applause from Glendower, but now Adi was giving her praise from her moonwalk entrance. "Thanks. I would love to show you how sometime." She still needed to to show him up with her super sweet dance moves too. Benny joined the ranks and AJ gave him a smile. "Hey Benny." Was everybody still calling him that? Before she had long to worry about it, a unicorn came floating down on her desk. So cool!!! "Thanks, professor." AJ was obsessed with unicorns and it was really epic that the professor noticed.
----------------------------
Inventions. Well, AJ thought that what everybody said so far was pretty good. There were several reasons why people invented things, but there was one thing that really stuck out to AJ, and she didn't think anybody had touched on it as of yet. Her hand was raised in the air, and she waited her turn. "I think some people have ideas constantly and I mean like you are almost taken over by them, and you just can't rest until you start putting things in action." She could be like that to a certain extent, but it usually didn't involve inventing things. "Naturally curious people." She added as an afterthought, hoping that she had explained herself well enough.

What he expected to receive in return was the smile. what he DIDN'T expect was to get an origami FOX in return.
SWEET!
Smiling widely, he picked up the fox and examined it closely, taking in the intricate folds and the way it actually looked like a freaking fox. After a second or two, Grayson looked over at Glendower and called, "Thanks a bunch, Professor!" This was gonna go with his miniature dragon and sit on his bedside table. It was cool, only Slytherin boys would know about it.
A form of creativity? And why people invent things? Kinda obvious, wasn't it? "Times change and we need to adjust to it," he said, his hand in the air, "See, we can't use old things for too long because we'll end up having different needs and whatnot. AND, they eventually go kapoot. So people make use of new discoveries and invent things so that we can adjust to the new times. Make things easier for the next generations."
Angel raised her hand. "Professor it depends... some people create stuff to make the world a better place... and others create stuff for fun." Angel looked at the Professor as she decided to explain her theory. "It's like some people come up with a completely new design... they say it comes to them in dreams or in a car or basically at anytime." Angel really thought that would be cool if it happened to her. "But then other people just create something new by accident... they could be tinkering with something old and they add something to it and it creates something totally different." Angel could have gone on and on but she decided again it.
It was an easy, straightforward question she had posed to the class and, while she expected a certain range of answers, she eagerly turned her attention on the class to hear them. First to offer an answer was Angel. She nodded her head, trying to follow along. "Sure.. sometimes inspiration strikes perhaps in a dream.. sometimes it might happen if someone was working on something old and thought of an improvement.. very good."

Because she really was not that sure about her answer. "Like the Cheering Charm was probably invented because someone saw a lot of grumpy people and figured a good way to solve the problem was to make a spell that BAM creates instant happiness!" Was it obvious that was her favourite charm?
Nessa called on Lux next as the girl raised her hand. Listening a moment, she nodded. "Yes! Often someone sees a problem and tries to find a solution.." Good answer. And she nodded again as she provided a spell example. The Cheering Charm was a fabulous spell in her opinion.. who couldn't use some extra cheer?

Of course you may use your book for this part.. and remember not to name any spells or potions for now." They were all invented at some point, but that was not today's focus. At least not for now.
Penelope watched the origami butterfly flying to her desk. It was so pretty! She loved butterflies! Maybe Professor Glendower could teach her how to fold origami butterflies.
Oooh, they were talking about inventing things! This sounded like it was going to be a fun lesson. What was a magical invention? Who invented it? "Ignatia Wildsmith invented floor powder."

Glendower was totally on the same wavelength as AJ was. She knew the professor would understand with her creative classes. AJ had still yet to fly on a broom and as the professor used that as an example her heart stung a little. Would she ever be able to have a go at flying? She was determined that she would be excellent at it.
Magical inventions were not something that she was up on so she would need the assistance of her textbook. Pages were flipping as she tried to find something cool to add. Oh, the sneakoscope. That was interesting. With a raised hand she contributed, "There's the sneakoscope invented by Edgar Stroulger. It's supposed to let you know when someone untrustworthy is around." AJ wanted one.

Adi was pleased with his answer to the first question. And apparently so was Professor Nessa. He began scribbling down notes from the blackboard as he listened to her. So...the next question...
Adi flipped open his textbook. He raised his hand after finding something important. It was neither a spell nor potion. "Ignatia Wildsmith discovered the magical properties of the Floo plant and afterwards invented the Floo powder.''
Maddie's entrance was the same as always as she entered the History of Magic Lesson. What WASN'T the same was the smile on her face, one that tugged the corners of her lips upwards as SOON as she saw what Glendower was doing. Origami. She liked origami. She was GOOD at origami. Better now that Dora had sent her a book on it. Maybe this lesson wouldn't be so bad. "Hi Professor." Sweet animals.
Spotting Eden, the thirteen year old took up the seat beside her and smiled. "Eden of the garden variety." Hello.
Eden was in a very good mood...still. This was good NEWS. And she also now felt like making lots of origami things. Maybe she'd ask Clara to do origami with her after class, eh? That sounded like nice, fun, bff-bonding time and all. HEHE.
OOOOHH HI.
Eden smiiiiiiled big at the younger 'claw and winked. "Maddie of the Cooper variety." She thought it made sense. Coopers were cars. But what if Maddie didn't KNOW that. Then she would just think Eden was a weirdo. WELL THEN.
She also waved at everyone else in the world because she had too many friends. YEP. Too many.

Nessa looked up and beamed at Eden, soon wiggling her fingers at her in return for the wave. “Hello, Eden..” She glanced down at the paper menagerie she had amassed, then smiled up at the girl. “Oh you do? Aren’t they fun?” Origami was not only relaxing but productive as well. She flicked her wand to allow one of the paper rabbits to hover in front of the girl for her to take, then handed her a square of paper in case she wanted to make a swan as well. Since she knew how, of course.
Nessa looked up from her paper animals and beamed widely at the next student to enter. “Hello, Lux.. oh it is fun!” With a flick of her wand, she sent one of her butterflies soaring over towards the girl’s desk.
Nessa smiled as she watched Adi enter the classroom next. He appeared to be enjoying her choice of music, but who could blame him? She smiled a bit wider as he stopped in front of her and greeted her. “Hello, Adi.. Why, thank you!” She glanced down at her paper animals. She hadn’t yet made a hippogriff, but she could. Grabbing a square of paper, she began folding here and there, turning it just right to add a few more intricate folds. Voila! As he took a seat, she flicked her wand to send the paper hippogriff to the prefect’s seat.
Nessa’s smile faltered ever so slightly as she watched the Head Girl trudge into the room. Bad day? She really hoped nothing was wrong. “Good day, Alexa,” she returned the girl’s greeting with a smile, then she sent a paper fox to the girl’s desk with a wave of her wand.
Nessa smiled brightly at the Ravenclaw girl as she walked into the room next. “Hi Maddie.” She seemed interested in her origami animals as well and so Nessa selected a whale to swim through the air with a flick of her wand towards the girl’s chosen seat.
Nessa returned the girl’s bright smile as she walked into the room and stopped in front of her. “Hello, Emmylou..” She paused in her folding a moment to nod. “Why, yes, I am making origami.. Would you like a mouse?” She finished up the folds of the little animal, then placed it atop the girl’s head. Cute!
Nessa smiled brightly as the next girl walked in, though her smile turned slightly confused as the girl spoke. Had she not been in class before? She thought she looked familiar or at least knew the name.. Slightly flustered, she stopped folding papers for a moment to reach for her roster list. “Yes.. yes.. hello, dear..” she murmured, looking through her paperwork. There she was.. hmm. Anyway.. she sent a folded paper cat her way with a flick of her wand.
Humming along again to the faint music playing, Nessa looked up just in time to see another student walk in. “Hello, Cinna,” she returned the greeting with a big beamy smile. She kept folding her paper, aware that the girl was watching her. Once Cinnamon was sitting down, Nessa sent the hummingbird she was making towards the girl’s desk with a flick of her wand.
Fold, fold, fold. Nessa still had a little army of animals scattered over the top of her podium, but she continued to make another, figuring a few more would be useful. She looked up as a student called towards her and she gave him a big smile. “Hello! Why, thank you!” She was glad people seemed to like them and she looked over the little paper animals before deciding the Slytherin might like a fox. With a flick of her wand, she sent it over to the boy’s desk as he found a seat.
Nessa took a break in her paper folding, wondering if she had perhaps made enough for now when she noticed another student walk into the room. Brown eyes following Zeke as he found a seat, she returned his small smile with a big smile of her own. Selecting one of the origami cats, she swished her wand and sent it to his desk.
Nessa grinned widely at Toby’s entrance, appreciative of his creativity. “Well, that looked like fun!” she said as he made his way over. Nodding in agreement, she first glanced down at the paper animals, then back at the boy. “Oh you do? How interesting! And hello to you too, Toby!” She was about to give him a square of paper to make his own origami rose if he wanted but he had already hurried to find a seat. Well, didn’t he seem to be in a good mood? Selecting one of the paper rabbits, she sent it over to his desk with a wave of her wand.
Nessa looked up and watched one of the twins as she moonwalked into class, getting a bit of light applause for her efforts. She never could tell right away which girl was which, so she decided to watch a moment for a hint. "Hello.." she greeted back with a wide smile, watching as she sat next to Adi. Possibly Aubrey then. She flicked her wand and sent an origami unicorn towards the girl's desk. She was pretty sure she liked those. Or was it Angel that liked unicorns?
Nessa looked up just in time to see Zander zoom in on a skateboard. Her eyes widened a moment as she thought he might fall, but he didn't and was soon rewarded by some light applause. "Hiya Zander," she returned the greeting with a bright smile, then watched him walk to his seat before she glanced down at the paper animals. Perhaps he'd like a frog.. she flicked her wand and sent one hopping through the air to the boy's desk.
She began folding again, not sure if she needed many more, but she did love making origami so she just continued either way. Vaguely aware of a presence coming in, she looked up to see the latest student to grace the classroom. "Good day, Benjamin," she said with a big smile, noticing that he seemed interested in what he was doing. Hmm.. she was pretty sure he might like a dragon from what she had seen of him in previous classes. Brown eyes locating a dragon she had folded from the paper, she swished her wand and sent it to the boy's desk.
Nessa smiled widely as Penelope walked in next. "Hello, Penelope," she said brightly, happy to see that the girl appeared to be in a good mood. Her eyes fell over her paper animals and she selected an origami butterfly to magically send the girl's way.
Nessa beamed brightly as Jasmine strutted into class. How divine! "Hello, Jasmine," she greeted her in return, then gave her an approving smile as she greeted the entire class. What a nice thing to do! Swishing her wand, she then sent an origami goldfish swimming through the air before it landed on the prefect's desk.
Blink. Blink, blink. Well.. that was some stunning acrobatics and Nessa certainly was not prepared for all of that. Once she had gotten over her surprise, she smiled widely at the girl who she believed was Angel. "That was lovely dear.. And I am just wonderful. I hope you are as well," she added cheerfully. She sent an origami unicorn her way with her wand, just in case she was wrong about which sister liked them.. or in case they both did.
Nessa knew it was getting to be about that time so she put an end to her paper folding for now, turning her attention on the doorway just in case a few more students straggled in. She smiled widely as she watched the boy walk in. "Hello Caleb.." A dragon, perhaps? Nessa selected one she had folded then swished her wand to send one to his desk.
Once the last of the students entered the room, Professor Glendower figured it was about time to begin class. "Good afternoon, class," she said, smiling widely as she walked out from behind her podium towards the center of the room. "I hope you all enjoy your Origami animals.. they are just something I like to do every once in a while if the mood strikes. We won't be learning how to make them in class today, but if you'd ever like to learn, I'd be happy to show you any time in my room next door." She had all sorts of creative things over there. And from what she heard, several students already knew how, so maybe they'd like to teach others. Fun!
"While Origami, per se, isn't the focus of our lesson, we are going to be focusing on a form of creativity. And that is to say we are going to be talking about Wizarding inventions throughout history. It often takes a creative mind to come up with something inventive that no one had thought of before. Now, we aren't talking about inventing spells, nor will we be talking about Muggle inventions, but we will talk about objects, devices, and products that have benefited or had an impact on Magical society..
"First.. why do you think people invent things or why do you think someone would have a desire to think up something new?"

It was an easy, straightforward question she had posed to the class and, while she expected a certain range of answers, she eagerly turned her attention on the class to hear them. First to offer an answer was Angel. She nodded her head, trying to follow along. "Sure.. sometimes inspiration strikes perhaps in a dream.. sometimes it might happen if someone was working on something old and thought of an improvement.. very good."
Nessa nodded as she called on Alexa and the girl provided her answer. "Good.. sometimes things become outdated and there is a need for something new.." Thankfully there were people creative or smart enough to come up with those things.
Nessa smiled widely and gave Adi a nod in agreement as the boy was the next to provide his answer. That answer probably summed things up best. "Exactly.. inventions are often created to make people's lives easier."
Nessa smiled at Cinna who was next to raise her hand. After nodding towards her to call on her, she listened to the girl's answer. "Yes.. sometimes things need to be improved after some time." It was an expansion on Alexa's answer, she thought, but correct all the same.
Nessa nodded thoughtfully as Justine provided her answer next. Some people were probably after money and notoriety for inventions more than anything else and sometimes they weren't as meticulously made as others, but it was correct nonetheless. "Some people are in it for money or fame, yes.. Inventing something, especially if it is very successful, can be quite lucrative."
Nessa called on Zhenya next, listening to her answer and example as she nodded in agreement. "Yes.. things are typically created to make life easier for people." That was the reason at its most basic, she thought. And she smiled widely at her example. Even brooms had been invented at some point. There was once a time that they did not fly on them.
Nessa beamed widely at Tobias. "Sure! Some people just have an overwhelming amount of creativity and might think inventing things are fun... plus there are things that have been invented that are really fun as well.." She could think of a couple things right off the top of her head.
Looking for another raised hand, Nessa's brown eyes fell on Benjamin for a moment. He seemed quite interested in his origami dragon which made her smile. The question was a bit straightforward that she didn't expect very many different answers, but the next question would have more opportunity and perhaps he could contribute then.
Ah.. even though Caleb had said something similar to one or two other, he provided a word they hadn't which really fit well. "Convenient.. great word for it," Nessa said, smiling widely.
Oh my.. a budding inventor. That made Nessa very happy and she offered Sophie a beaming smile as she listened to her answer. "Wonderful.. Inventions can not only make lives easier, but also improved.. maybe even save someone's life." She nodded as the girl continued, giving her a knowing smile. It was like she was foreshadowing things to come in class and for homework. Such a well-thought out answer.. Nessa was quite pleased. "I really like the thought of fulfilling personal goals or challenging oneself.. not only can an inventor make everyone else's life better but also personal development as well." It did take a curious soul to be a successful inventor.
Nessa smiled brightly at Zander and nodded her agreement to his answer. "That's a great way to look at it.. saving the world, one invention at a time.." She always thought the boy had such creative answers to her questions. That might do him well in today's homework.
Smiling happily, Nessa nodded at Zeke's answer. It was similar to a few others, but she liked the personal twist he added to it. "It does feel good to be responsible for something great, like a successful invention. I'm sure inventors are very proud of their accomplishments."
Oh that was a good point too and Nessa nodded enthusiastically in agreement to Aubrey's answer. "I'm sure inventors are some of the most creative people.. and you can't easily turn that off. People like that always want to be doing something.." Yes, and curious too.. She was sure she knew exactly what the girl meant, partially because she was one of those creative types of people herself.
And she was rather accustomed to a well-thought answer from Grayson as well, and today was no exception. "Certainly! Sometimes inventions are created to help people keep up with changing times and our evolving needs." Just like Sophie said, people were not stagnant.
"Well done, everyone!" Nessa addressed the class once more when it appeared that she had gotten the last of the answers for her question. "At its most basic sense, inventions are typically created to fill a need or as the solution to a problem. Though there is much to expand on that as you hopefully heard from your classmates." Everyone had been paying attention, right? She flicked her wand on the board to begin compiling the answers that the students had given her for reference and just in case anyone wanted to write things down. She knew some learned best that way.
"So many things have been invented to make our lives better or easier, even things that are so commonplace that we might take it for granted." She looked around at them all, wondering if they could think of anything while she was speaking. "Imagine life before flying brooms. They've only been around 1000 years ago." And yes, there were people around before that who weren't able to use a broom to fly because that hadn't yet been invented. "And just as we touched on a little bit, even after flying brooms were invented, they were continually improved upon to make them even better for today's use than they once were.
"Now that we know why someone might invent something, what are some things that have been invented throughout our history? It doesn't necessarily have to be something that is commonly used today; sometimes really crazy things are invented that don't become commonplace.. Let's name some magical inventions, who invented it if you know, and why or what need the invention filled. Of course you may use your book for this part.. and remember not to name any spells or potions for now." They were all invented at some point, but that was not today's focus. At least not for now.
Eden smiled at Professor Glendower and nodded. "It's very relaxing." YES and Maddie knew how to do it as well?! They should have a Ravenclaw ORIGAMI paaaartay! Sweeeet.
Aaaand class was starting Eden was excited. Was it about ORIGAMI? No? That was still okay. Eden didn't mind. Apparently it was about INVENTIONS. Magical ones. Hmm. She raised her hand slowly to answer the first question. "Well--most times people invent things to solve a problem." Or to make things easier. That was the general consensus Eden was hearing from everyone in the room. She was scribbling away madly about it all, though, and everything Glendower wrote on the board--yes. She wished she had neater handwriting. Oops.
And then the more...difficult part. Eden definitely needed her book for this because she didn't KNOW these things off the top of her head. She didn't really KNOW of any--Merlin. "Well--the Pensieve is one invention that's really cool--" she said with a shrug. "Don't know who exactly invented it, but it helps see your memories--clears your head--and all that fun stuff." She said with a nod, still flipping through her book to see if it said who invented it.

The first invention that popped into his head was the microwave. But that didn't really qualify as magical in Glendower's terms. It did, however do very magical things like heat up pizza!! But well she wanted the wizard kind of magical so yeah.
He kept quiet for a bit as he thought deeply. Something at Hogwarts maybe? That'd be a good place to start since he had always lived a muggle family of course. "Moving staircases?" He had no idea when they were invented, but they had to be invented at some point, right? Stairs didn't just move naturally... At least not where he grew up. "I think they were invented to make moving around a building a lot easier! That way you only really need one stair case for everything, instead of having to move around a whole lot," yup.

It was sort of nice having people she knew AND liked around. Like Jazzy and Eden and Penelope, all fellow Ravenclaws and ALL females she could stand. It was a rarity, that. The brunette had exchanged smiles with each before she received her origami whale from Glendower. A whale? Hm. What did THAT mean, exactly? Whales grew to be HUGE and while Maddie clearly WOULDN'T ever be THAT big, she WOULD be big in the sense that she was going to RULE. So yeah, whale worked for her if you thought about it like THAT. It was a pity they weren't making more animals in class, though. She LIKED origami.
The second year had MISSED the first question given she was busy comparing herself to giant mammals of the sea but the NEXT question she'd heard and she had THOUGHTS.
"Extendable Ears, Professor. They were invented by Fred and George Weasley and I'm SURE that younger siblings EVERYWHERE have found them useful." JUST saying. "They're good for those who might be curious to learn what's said behind closed doors." NOT that she was admitting SHE was one of those people. NOPE.

Benny offered a weak smile as AJ acknowledged him, at least that wasn't all bad. He took down the notes that were given by both his classmates that were accepted and what the professor wrote upon the board. Then his attention switched to the next question as they moved on, the fourth year thinking on what kind of answer he could give. When something came to mind as he listened to the others give theirs, he raised his hand to speak.
"Well Bowman Wright invented the Golden Snitch to replace the snidget." That had been a great thing since the poor bird was being pushed towards extinction by the game of quidditch.

So far Lux was definitely preferring this lesson to the last one; it was much easier to understand. As much as she enjoyed challenges, the Being, Beast, and Spirit thing had made her brain start to hurt.
Jotting down what was written on the board she tried to imagine life without brooms. Of course that wouldn't impact her day to day life since she didn't use them, but without them there would be no Quidditch and that thought made her sad. Whoever invented the broom made Quidditch possible, and so she was thankful to them.
As they were asked to provide examples of magical inventions, Lux shot up her hand. "The lunascope was invented by Perpetua Fancourt. It's an astronomical device that is used to analyse the moon phases. I'm sure that could be useful for many things, but I can't think of any off the top of my head," she admitted.
What Toby liked best about the notes on the board, as he discovered while writing them down, was that his own suggestion of FUN was up there in ALL BIG LETTERS. That seemed incredibly fitting to this Hufflepuff, and he griiiiinned to himself as he scribbled down the last of those notes.
As for inventions, there was ONE in particular that came STRAIGHT to Toby's mind, and he raised his hand at once.
"The Deluminator. Albus Dumbledore had one, and I think he invented it for himself, like it wasn't mass-produced or antyhing. It could sort of take light from places and hold onto it, so it turned lights off and on again, if you wanted. But then it was also helpful as a sort of... like... guide, to the Weasley guy who had it next."
Liiiiiiiights wiiiiiiiill guiiiiiide you hooooome...
It took REAL effort not to sing that out loud, so Toby just grinned and lowered his hand again. He'd have liked to have been able to elaborate on that last part of his answer, but he'd not done much reading on the subject. No more than the bare bones of everything.
INVENTIONS. COOL. Norah swung her feet back and forth underneath the table as she tried to think of an answer. Uhm. Raising her hand, she figured she'd make a guess. "Portkeys were invented to make going places easier and faster if you can't apparate. But I dunno who invented them." There. Half an answer counted for something right?
Kace heard the professor moving on and he was too busy doodling and realized she did ask a question. She wondered what would inspire someone to make an invention? He grinned and kind of knew the answer to that already. He copied down the question and the notes on the board.

Then he heard her move on to another question. She wanted to know some magical inventions and what was their purpose. He really had no idea but he heard they could use their book and Kace was wayyy ahead of the professor on that one. He flipped through his book to see one a student didn't mention already. He found one and raised his hand, "Professor I know Fred and George Weasley invented the Decoy Detonator. It used if you want to create diversions and don't want to get caught. I know Harry Potter used it trying to sneak into the Ministry of Magic.." he shrugged and waited for the next part of the lesson.
