The class is the same with the proper chairs and soft cushions to sit and lean back on that are still are charmed to take the most comfortable shape and height once a student is seated. The walls are still a soft, calming blue. There previous additions stand as well: one big, grey rubbish bin by the door and a white, porcelain washbasin with a tap for those who wants to wash their hands before/after the class and who can't perform 'Aguamenti' charm (a short hose to direct the water to the cauldron is on the white, porcelain shelf hung on the wall, in case the cauldron doesn't fit the washbasin).
The door is open 15 minutes before the class time. Your professor is waiting by it and shakes your hand as a greeting as you enter.
OOC: If you are going to RP your characer use the rubbish bin or the washbasin, you don't have to RP asking for Cosgrach's permission. Just assume he has granted it.
Come in, take your seats! The class will resume approximately 12 hours later. You may chat among yourselves, but please don't go overboard with it. Thanks! The class has begun, so please do not announce your late arrival, but RP as if you have been here all the time.
Potion progress
1. Add 300 mililitres of water and 2 drops of Lethe River Water to your cauldron.
2. Gently heat for 20 seconds.
3. Add twofour Valerian sprigs to your cauldron.
4. Stir 3 times clockwise AND 3 times counter clockwise.
5. Wave your wand once over the cauldron in clockwise circular motion.
The potions in the room are black and muddy, and the smoke got denser. Professor Cosgrach has fooled you and you have 3,5 hours to fix it and leave a sample of correctly brewed Forgetfulness Potion on his desk.
OOC notes
1. As there is no JKR-canon way to fix a potion, be creative and make something up! Two examples my humble brain could think of (I am not saying I'll grade based on these examples, because there is no definite 'correct' way) are:
For stirring, you may turn the stirrer upside down and stir the other way.
For extra Valerian roots, you may add Jobberknoll feathers.
2. Explain in your posts why your character went with that way to fix the step, and please refrain from adding OOC comments while explaining.
3. You may work in pairs. You don't have to RP in the library.
4. Fix only one step per post, please, to let me post the potion's reaction and say whether it's worked or made everything worse (I'll be posting that, yes. ) Once everything is fixed, you can make big posts for the rest of the potion.
5. Cosgrach has left the classroom, but I am still here, so please refrain from chatter.
Essentially, you post one step and wait for The Narrator's post.
So that's how I'll grade: creativity and potions common sense. To get full credit, you have to post at least 5 times: 3 to undo the damage and 2 to complete the potion. There is no maximum limit.
You have until Tuesday 19.00 GMT/14.00 EST 23.59 GMT/19.00 EST to complete it.
Ah, so it was clockwise first THEN counter clockwise. Okay. She had no idea why it occurred to her the other way around. Good thing she checked both the board and her notes. Don't want a KABOOM in a final.
Grabbing the stirrer she stirred three times clockwise, then three times counter clockwise.
Another alerting moment. For a second there she thought she was making soup. Ha. How terrible would it have been if she 'tasted' it. Ha. Not funny.

Of course, Alice was paying attention to what the professor was saying to other students as she started on her three clockwise stirs. Since she'd already cleaned her spoon and all, it was an easy transition. But that... didn't make any sense, did it? His conversation with Sophie? Personally, she thought a memory potion was more required at the current moment. It'd be better to do that than to forget MORE, right?
And this was why she had to stay with the class for brewing steps, because Culloden was amending all the instructions. Quickly jotting down a note about the extra three counterclockwise rotations of her stirrer, Alice moved on to doing those as well. This was a fairly easy potion, yeah? Even with his changes and all, which were barely anything, it was still a beginner level mixture.
Which she could do. The seventh year extracted her spoon from the cauldron and laid it out on a napkin, waiting for more directions.

Delilah stifled a yawn as the professor went on with the lesson. Riiiiight, next step. She picked up the wooden stirrer from the desk and eyed it for a moment. It didn't look too.. hygienic. "Scourgify." The girl set her wand back on the desk.
She carefully proceeded to stir the potion three times clockwise.. and three times anti-clockwise. Okay, done! Okay, so she'd managed to not mess up the potion so far.. Awesome. Delilah sat back down and waited for the next step. She was kind of starting to like this lesson, yes.
"What? Again? That's keen!" Annabeth shook her head after muttering a bit, adding to her text book "AND 3 times counter clockwise".
She took her stirrer, put it into the cauldron, and stirrer as her professor had said, "One, two, three" clockwise and "One two, three" counter clockwise.
It was when she wondered why Professor Culloden was so interested in increasing effectiveness of this potion. What could he want so hard to forget? She looked at him and raised one eyebrow. Would he have killed someone? Such as his wife? His family? She widened her eyes. She looked around. She was dying to talk to someone about her secret and crazy theory. Everyone seemed to be busy at the time. She stared at the teacher again, he was so handsome, he couldn't be a killer. Or could he be? The girl began trembling and grabbed her wand.
The next step was supposed to be waving the wand to the cauldron, though she didn't do it, Cosgrash could change the step five, Anna should wait. She pointed absently her wand towards him instead.

Ian actually heard the instructions this time. He stirred 1...2...3 clockwise and 1...2...3...4... counterclockwise. He sat back, hoping things were going to go well. He looked over at the blackboard and felt his face drain of blood when he noticed he was only supposed to stir 3 times in each direction. He was afraid to ask anymore questions, based upon the most recent reaction of the professor so he just sat there, hoping nothing bad happened.
Cosgrach SAW it, since he had been watching these two. He saw the extra stir, and sighed in annoyance. If only he had a window here and could see the clear blue sky to calm down... instead, he stared at the blue walls for a second, forced a smile, and said to the boy "Turn your stick upside down and stir clockwise only once." Surely he could do that? Or maybe Bart should do--but no, one of his favourite students wouldn't work extra for Ian.
All the potions, green until then, turned red all of a sudden and started to smoke a little, but Cosgrach took no heed of it. He was still sitting calmly on his chair, happily even, and ignored the murmurs that whined about the changes. He said "Step five: Wave your wand once over the cauldron in clockwise circular motion." He'd changed that step too, yep.

Ian set his things down and heard Bart tell him to hurry up. He hurriedly cleaned his cauldron and glanced at Bart's notes. He added the waters, heated them by performing incendio for twenty seconds and then asked Bart what the next step was.
Ugh so he didn't miss his chair, pity. Well whatever, Bart started paying attention to his own cauldron when he felt someone looking over his shoulder. "Dude personal space much." He sighted why did the professor put him here. "Here" he pulled out another piece of parchment and started to write. A smile crossed his face and he glanced at the professor. SPOILER!!: Notes for book boy
1. Add 2 drops of Lethe River Water to your cauldron
2. Gently heat for 20 seconds
3. Add 2 Valerian sprigs to your cauldron
4. Stir 3 times, clockwise
5. Wave your wand
6. Leave to brew and return in 45-60 thirty minutes

8. Add 4 mistletoe berries boogers to the mortar
9. Crush into a medium-fine powder using the pestle
10. Add 2 pinches of the crushed mixture to your cauldron
11. Stir 5 2 times, anti-clockwise
12. Wave your wand to complete the potion
"Now you don't have to lean all relationship close to me to see my notes. Here are your own." He tried to keep a serious face and pushed the parchment towards the boy. Now to go back to his own cauldron.
SPOILER!!: Step 4
"Forgetting depends on the importance of what you want to forget. And... because this is an effect I've found? I mean, most of the potion makers," not this one, mind ya, "just go 'Oh this works, so I won't experiment more', because experimenting is risky especially when you don't know much," he nodded gravely, "and I guess playing with memory is tricky so they don't want more of the valerian sprigs. But fear not, fear not," he quickly added in a louder voice, "aaaall will be fine." A mentor promise.
"Class," he turned to address to them, "step four: Stir 3 times clockwise AND 3 times counter clockwise. Again, for more effectiveness and whatnot." He waved his hand dismissively. Boring, really. Why had he picked this boring potion for the final, again?
The board changed itself as he sat back on his chair once more.
He had been forgetting things a lot lately, heck in the last class he didn't even remember his own potion supplies. So this was going to help he hoped at least. It was cool that they were trying to help with the old, but why was it that they weren't finding more of a cure? He worried about what would happen if they didn't. His mind left the potion making as he frowned and thought over his old thoughts.
Glancing around he saw others working and realized another step was to be done. Looking at his notes the twelve year old cleaned his stirrer and began stirring counter clockwise. 1...2...3.. Now it was time to go clockwise so the boy started stirring. He never understood why they had to do each, but it was potions so he figured it was important. Stirring clockwise 1..2...3.. There all finished.

So how was the puffer doing with his new notes? Bart glanced over just as he heard the professor voice. He really tried to muffle his chuckles as he heard him get scolded for doing something that Bart didn't even put in the notes. Score for his own mistakes making this much more fun. "You should really give a better effort. Professor Cosgrach doesn't hiss at anyone. He is a great professor." Honestly if he did what he was suppose to he wouldn't be getting scolded. The blonde accidentally bumped into Ian's arm as he reached up to put his wand over his cauldron, even if Ian wasn't on his wand hand side it still worked.
Moving his wand hand over his cauldron he looked at his notes and then began waving it in a circular motion once. Now that was finished his eyes went back to book boy next to him.

Ian smiled as Bart handed over some notes. This would make things a little better. Thanks. I'm having trouble writing so that I can read it. I still don't know why the professor got so angry. I was just asking him to read the notes I took before class so I'd be prepared. I don't have any hope of moving on to third year if I don't at least finish today. Ian read through the notes and observed some rather odd notations, but thought he'd not irritate the gryffie boy by remarking about them. He'd just watch Bart to see what he did with his potion to ensure he was doing it properly.
When the professor spoke to Ian, Ian's shoulders sort of hunched over. He was trying to make it through class unnoticed, but that was not to be. Apparently the professor had been watching and saw his mistake. Yes, sir. Ian mumbled only as loud as he thought was necessary to be heard.
He went to pick up his wand again to follow the instructions of the professor when he felt his other arm 'accidentally' bumped by Bart and it caused Ian to slightly lose his balance. He went to catch himself and set his hand a little too close to the recently warmed cauldron and he felt the heat quickly (now that his skin seemed to have thinned). In his hurried attempt to pull his burned hand back, he watched in horror as his cauldron tipped forward before expelling it's contents onto the floor before his desk.
This was all too much for Ian. He crossed his arms on the table before him and placed his head down and began to sob quietly to himself. Why were things going so badly for him today? was the question that repeated itself over and over in his head.

After stiring and as Ben took his stiring rod out, his potion changed from green to red and started to smoke starting to panic the second year. Was it supposed to do that? Had he done something wrong that he wasn't aware of? He looked over at his friend's work, only to see the same changes there and a glance around his nearest classmates gave him notice of the smoke at least eminating from each of their works.
Whew!
Ben was so paranoid of doing wrong, he was actually reacting negatively to when stuff went right. Shaking his head at himself, the Gryffindor turned instead to the next step given by Professor Culloden. Wave your wand once over the cauldron in clockwise circular motion. So he exchanged rod for wand after he found the later on his workspace again and moved it carefully in the given direction.

Adi was startled at the change in colour and smoking of the Potion. He looked around wildly at the Professor, wondering if he had done something wrong. But to his relief, it seemed as if it were happening to all the potions as well. Phew! He did not want to start this potion all over again.
The Second year grabbed his wand and waved it over his cauldron once in the clockwise, circular motion.

As Sander watched over his cauldron, he began to notice the mixture beginning to change color. Where once it was green, it was now turning red. And that wasn't the only thing happening. His potion was beginning to smoke a little.
A little alarmed, Sander was going to ask the Potions Master whether this change was normal when Professor Culloden spoke up again and gave their next step of instructions. It was time to use their wand. Unholstering his wand, Sander held it over the cauldron and waved it once in a circular clockwise direction.
Holstering his wand again, he picked up his quill and made the changes in his journal adding in the revisions.

Another addition to the potion?
Lux raised her brow, bemused. Why was the Professor wanting to make this potion even more effective? It was very strange, and she found herself wondering if there was a secret reason. Then she realized that she was probably being silly and there was no reason to be paranoid. Professor Culloden was a nice man, and he was surely not hiding an ulterior motive.
After adding the addition to the next step in her notes, Lux picked up her wand. Moving it over her cauldron in a clockwise circular motion, she then crossed the step off.

They were moving on, yeah? Awesome.
... BLINK. Erm... more changes?
Alec glanced down at his notes, his eyebrows furrowed. He still wanted to know why these changes were in place. He knew about the Valerian sprigs but... was it the same for all of them? Effectiveness? He shrugged. This was why he couldn't be a potioneer; the boy was... not great at the idea of taking risks. Or didn't have the courage to do so.
Grey-blue eyes went back to the potion as it turned from green to... red? It was meant to do that, right? He glanced over at the cauldrons of the people sitting near him and tried to make out the colour of their potions through the smoke. ... Well... there were some more reds so...
... he was going to move on.
Taking out his wand, he waved it over his cauldron in a clockwise, circular motion. There. Done.

Annabeth was so distracted that the teacher's voice made her jump and her wand sparked. Errrrrrrr... that was no funny.
She looked into her cauldron, at least it was still red as the others were. Cosgrash was changing the instruction once again! She waved her wand over the cauldron in clockwise circular motion as he had told. And then she laid her wand on the table.
Angrily she crossed out the instruction in her text book and added the new instruction. Her book was becoming dirty with all that illegible scribblings she was adding.
The potion was steaming a bit, she was mesmerized by the steam and it made her feel suddenly happy. The steaming potion reminded her professor Lafay and she loved Lafay as if she were her mother. Anna looked at the teacher and sighed. She knew it was no use reading the next step, so she waited for the teacher's instruction, smiling sadly at him.

Oooh. She had fallen behind. That was not good. Grace bit her lip, quickly looking at the board. She wanted to make sure that she followed the instructions properly. Because it wasn't good to not do good. Her eyes were kind of hurting now, so she had to look a little closer to make sure that she did thing things right. Ooooh. It was stirring time. Grace liked stirring.
Smiling she picked up her wooden spoon and carefully stirred her potion three times clockwise. "Oneee..... Two..... Threeeeee." And then she stirred it counter-clockwise three times. "Oneeee.....Two..... Threeeee...." And she was done with step four. That was good. All nice and stirred. And she did the right too. She was glad.
Onto step five. "Wave wand over potion in a circular motion." Wasn't that kind of like just stirring it? Oh well. That the instructions say were right. Carefully she put her wooden stirrer down, and waved her wand over the potion in a circular motion.

Her mind was clearly off, because as soon as her potion turned red was just when Alice realized she hadn't made any notes about the appearance of her brew so far. She hastily squeezed in some comments about its previous green color before documenting the current shade and smoking of the potion as well. Merlin. This forgetful thing was beginning to be a real pain.
And he'd amended the wand wave, too? Idly wondering if they'd do the same movement for the other wand wave required in the potion later on, the seventh year did as told. Her wand was swished in a circular clockwise rotation over her cauldron, and then she waited.
... were they going to be doing something for that 45-60 minutes that the next step warned of? Hmm?

Wand work!
She liked adding that to potions. It's what separated them from muggles who could make magic, you know? Kinda like Muggles being able to add stuff once they can acquire it but when it comes to the casting parts they wouldn't stand a chance and the potion would blow up. Nothing blowing up when she tried, she was legit with this magic stuff.
Ahem.
Alexa raised her wand over her cauldron and did the clockwise circular motion once. The Professor was stressing the once and she was all for not having to do it too many times. Had to conserve on energy seeing as nap time wouldn't be happening. Go figure.

Delilah stared at her potion as it suddenly turned red.. And there was a bit of smoke coming out of it too. Was this supposed to happen? Was she doing it wrong? The girl looked up frowning but remained quiet. Yeah, no. If it was wrong, the professor would tell her right? Besides, she could see that almost everyone's potion had turned red so.. She was probably doing it right.
She picked up her wand and waved it over the cauldron in a clockwise, circular motion. Yeah, done. On to the next step now..
So Bart did the stirring vice-versa, and Cosgrach sighed to himself. Probably the Hufflepuff boy distracted him, but the man didn't bother to point it out either, and the boy carry on with the instructions. He'd soon see it didn't make any difference, anyway. Only...
"You've changed the stirring order," he said, "but it's okay. Carry on."

Cosgrach jumped to his feet and with a swift motion of his wand, collected the potion back into the cauldron, then turned his BURNING gaze on the boy.
"I hope you are not crying." Because if he was, he had no place in his classes. Actually, he looked like he tried his best to be turned into a worm by Cosgrach, but the older man was better than that. He was going to leave him on his own in a few minutes. Then he could trip any cauldron he wished.
"Things happen, child, but things also have a solution." Like this one. He gave the boy one last LOOK, but all the potions, including his, was beginning to act weirdly so he had to get up and address to the class.
The potions in the room drastically turned black and muddy. The smoke got denser, and Cosgrach, having ignored all the symptoms and LOOKS of the student before, got to his feet. He looked alarmed and grim.
"That quite went wrong," he murmured to himself as if he hadn't foreseen it, but it was clear by now that all had been a performance: he had changed the steps on purpose. He paused and made eye contact with a few students to make sure he had everyone's attention. "You have 3 hours and a half to fix it and leave a sample of a correctly brewed Forgetfulness Potion on my desk. You may go to the library if you are sure your cauldron won't explode. You may work in pairs, but no more than two people working together, please. Older students may help first years, though I don't think we have any." Did they? He doubted it.
With that, he grinned and walked towards the door, ignoring any and all the questions they may have. He halted dramatically before exiting the class, turned to them and said "Good luck."
Ah, if only wizards had theatres!
OOC notes
So that's how I'll grade: creativity and potions common sense. To get full credit, you have to post at least 5 times: 3 to undo the damage and 2 to complete the potion. There is no maximum limit.
You have until Tuesday 19.00 GMT/14.00 EST to complete it.
Any objections?
OOC: The class will continue 12 hours later.
Oooooooo. COOL COLOR CHANGE. Potions that did cool things during the potion-making process were her favorites, even if this particular potion had been relatively boring to create thus far. She was pleased, though, and waved her wand at the various tools laid out on her napkin, "Scourgify." Just to keep things tidy as she went. And she blew away some of the smoke as it drifted toward her. Cough, cough. It was weird that it was smoking, but that was probably what Culloden wanted, right, since it was happening to everyone else's potions, too?
At the next instructions, Sophie gave a small shrug. Okay. Easy enough. Raising her wand over the cauldron, she waved it in a circular, clockwise motion once before setting the wand down on the side. Double ooooo. Black potion? That usually wasn't a good sign, was it? Sophie could feel her face get hot with uncertainty and worry that she did something wrong - she looked up to see if Culloden was looking, and he wasn't, but as he started talking... her eyebrows furrowed. Oh. Ooooooooh. She was grumpy with him, but she didn't say anything - she just... watched him leave, a grim expression on her face.
Okay, Culloden. Just leave them there like that, then. Sure.
Her posture drooping, Sophie looked around at the rest of the class - pairs? Partners? HMMM? She had some ideas on how to right their wronged potions, but she wanted someone else's skilled opinion, too - she looked at Tobes, then to Mo, then back at Tobes. They probably had people they wanted to be partners with more, but she didn't care. She wanted one of them. They would be valuable, she was certain of it. Mo would probably be better since he was older, but Tobes would be more fun to work with and he wouldn't scold her for having fun the way Mo would, but... she kept looking between the two, hoping she would catch either of their gazes. MO. TOBES. C'MON.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Surely he could do that? Or maybe Bart should do--but no, one of his favourite students wouldn't work extra for Ian.

Kevin checked his potion as it turned red and then looked at the cauldron next to him to see how that persons was and he let out a soft sigh of relief when it was supposed to turn red.
For the next step he grabbed his wand again and pointed it at the cauldron but then stopped for a second when the instructions had changed AGAIN.
He was about to say something along the line of why they had even bothered with studying this potion if he was just going to change it when the classroom was filled with black smoke from cauldrons everywhere.
Something was wrong....and the explaination of the Professor made him roll his eyes. So they had been making the potion wrong on purpose? "Gee, and here i thought he was dumb or something" he mumbled under his breath.
He waved his wand over the cauldron and did a clockwise motion once and stopped before looking up ....to see the Professor walking to the door....
WAS HE LEAVING THEM!? WHAT WHAT WHAAAAAT?! WAS HE LEAVING THEM WITH POTIONS THAT HAD GONE 'WRONG' WHAAAAAAAAT?!
As a first year, annoying and rude as he might be he suddenly felt a little nervous. He did not know anyone, hadn't made any friends yet and the fact that an Professor was leaving it up to the 'older students' to help them did not really comfort him.

His potion was turning red and smoky... was that supposed to happen? Theo raised an eyebrow, then peeked over at some of the others' potions just to check. And theirs were pretty much the same colour, too, so he didn't question it any further, of course. He picked up his wand and sloooooowly waved it in a circle shape over the top of his cauldron.
He hated using wand movements in potions, because you had to be so careful to get the right shape.
But he was pretty sure that he had managed a circle right now. Good.

WOAH... this definitely didn't look right. Theo had studied this potion prior to the lesson, and he knew quite well that the potion shouldn't be BLACK and SMOKY. He waved some of the smoke away and looked at the professor expectantly who appeared to be explaining something to them. Hold up... they had three hours to fix it? This was PLANNED the whole time?
KNEW IT. Theo totally called this when Cosgrach was changing all of those steps. He should've just trusted his own judgement and followed the regular rules, HMPTH.
The Slytherin raised his hand to ask a grumpy question, but oh...? Professor Cosgrach had vanished. Well, HE was certainly brave for leaving a class full of students alone with POTION MAKING. Theo had a mental list of everything that could go wrong in his absence. Explosions. Fires. DEATH. But that's cool, Cosgrach, you go put your feet up. He scowled at his black potion then looked over his notes that were written in his usual messy handwriting. Of course, they made zero sense to him and he had absolutely no idea how to fix this mess that the professor had gotten them into. So he looked over at Adelaide, who had unfortunately chosen to sit by him today of all days. "Hey, wanna partner up for this?" He used his puppy eyes.
Hadn't used puppy eyes in a LOOOOOONG time.

Alec STARED at Culloden in complete and utter disbelief. Did he just say that things... hadn't gone well?! BLINK. BLINK. This was probably one of those times when he really wished his old age was making him hear things. Maybe he could have heard that their potion was... doing wonderfully! Yeah. Or that they just needed to do something else to it and then they were done.
But, as his grey eyes glanced down at his potion, a feeling of panic started settling in. It was black. And muddy. And... yeah. No. This was not right. And did Culloden say that they had three and a half hours left to fix things? ... Uh oh. His complexion paled considerably. Maybe it was the panic or maybe it was the fumes but the boy couldn't even begin to think of how this was going to be fixed.
... Breathe... breathe...
That was helping. Trying to look calm and level headed as he should be at... times like this, the Head Boy looked up and around the classroom. Culloden had said that they could work in pairs, right? And that was what he was going to do. Work with someone else. Because two minds were better than one. The problem was... ... who?
"Does anyone need a partner?" Or wanted to work with him?

Adelaide looked down at her potion which had turned red all of a sudden. And was smoking. She was going to ask Culloden about it, but he didn't seem phased in the least. Sigh. She did as she was told and waved her wand five times in a clockwise motion.
...and then the smoking got worse. Quite wrong?! Of course it was quite wrong! Everyone's cauldrons were smoking. So at least it wasn't just her who had messed up. But okay. So there final was to fix it. And with partners. She was going to ask questions of Culloden but he was gone.

Great. The one class she'd been struggling with most of the term. She didn't even really know how to go about fixing potions. Addi glared at her notes a bit when she felt eyes on her. She turned to look at Theo. Who had the most adorable look on his face
"Sure. But before you completely agree, I should warn you I'm kind of rubbish at this..." This being potions. Which she had still never quite grasped how that was possible.

Merlin!! Was Professor Culloden serious?? He had deliberately made those mistakes?? Alarmed Sander looked inside his potion to see it first turning black and begin smoking even more.
No..no....no.....Sander began to panic looking around at the other students' reactions.
Now this is what they called the Final Countdown. Make or break time. We need a Hail Mary. All Sander knew was that he had to somehow fix this mess up or he wasn't going to pass this Final.
As they were allowed to partner up, Sander looked for the nearest available person.
