The Black Lake lies behind the castle and though it may seem like the water is calm on the surface, you will learn that that is not the case underwater. Creatures have made it their home from Merpeople to Grindylows. The most notable is Bartholomew Henry, the Giant Squid. The lake is a beautiful place for you to hang out.
Mr.Kirby has built a dock and has supplied it with some fishing rods. The lures have been charmed to prevent any magical creatures of the lake from getting hooked. The Groundskeeper will not tolerate any use of live bait, and is running a strict CATCH and RELEASE policy. Failure to follow these two rules will result in serious consequences.
She smiled slightly and nodded to what he said, “Well… I never thought magic was bad… I just wanted to learn about it… Just learn how to control it so I don’t change something every time I get a little upset.” Anna gave a weak laugh, “And you know, maybe not be locked away in a room for the rest of my time in the orphanage…” She looked at him and gave a small smile, “But you were still the first one to make me feel welcomed… And I really do appreciate it.” She looked at him and almost went forward to hug him until she remember he said he didn’t care for hugs.
And again she gave a small nod and laughed, “Actually it seemed to go really roughly for me…” She shrugged, “But I tried my best, and had fun… That’s all that matters to me.” Annalee looked at him as he said a name she didn’t recognize, “Jacen? You’re older brother I’m guessing?” She remembered him mentioning an older brother at the feast once or twice, “Well, I tried out for catcher… And I think that might have been where I made a mistake… Seeing how it’s one of the most active roles.” She paused, “But next year, I’ll probably tryout for beater.”
*Still looking out at the lake he smiled a little and nodded at her thanks. He knew first hand how hard it could be at this school. Add on the fact that Anna hadn't any family here made him feel like she needed a kind welcome.*
"Not a problem. And yes, Jacen is more older brother. He is the fun one I guess you could say. Girls chase him, can win just about in Quidditch match in his sleep, everyone loves Jacen Tillstorm..."
He felt at peace as he climbed the rock once more to be near the warmth of Tobias. His hand reached into his pocket and pulled out the cut of rope Professor Bellaire had given to them that day in class. He swished it around before whipping it onto the surface of the boulder. "Vinea Funiculus." Quietly and calmly he spoke the incantation before touching the tip of his wand to the vine. He had gotten as far as changing the colour of the vine from the still fairly vibrant green to a dry, yellowy colour. The vine also seemed to braid itself and perhaps, it could've been used for rope, but it hadn't been what Cutty was going for. "Reverto!"
"Do you like most of your Professors, Toby?" Cause he seemed to from what he'd seen of their interactions. "I mean, except for McCormack, because he's new 'n all."
As Cutty picked up his vine, Tobias too reached down for his own vine that he'd lay on the ground for the time being. He couldn't find it straight away, as it kind of blended in with the rest of the ground, but he soon managed to locate it and pick it up.
"Hmm?" he replied, somewhat distractedly as he glanced up at the lake to make sure his boat was staying within reach. But then when he answered, it was clear that Tobias had heard exactly what Cutty had said, and he grinned in that pure innocent way of his. The result was pretty much instantaneous. The was the spell Tobias had mastered a lot quicker, probably because the vine was already in the shape of the rope he was trying to make. This was definitely a rope, clean and yellow, but thin. Nothing like the sturdy looking think he'd managed before.
"Reverto."

"Some seem to be better at their jobs than others." He gave a bit of a vague answer. With the exception of Forrest, Cutty hadn't observed Tobias with other students, so he had no idea how true his notions were. But what he had seen was Tobias at work with the staff at Hogwarts. And maybe he was and maybe he wasn't kissing backside, but one thing was for sure. Toby had them eating from his hands.
One more time. Picture it clearly, Mordaunt. The entwining pattern, the texture and even the smell of rope like a bitter tisane. "Vinea Funiculus!" He said tapping the end of the vine with his aspen and feather. The magic wended down from the point of contact plaiting and whipping back the appearance of vine and replacing it with Cutty's desired one of rope. Cuttty picked it up, held it close to his face and tugged at it twice between his hands to test it's strength. Not bad. Bellaire had said that they would be doing larger scale ones in the future, however. So he wanted to have this down. "Reverto!"
"I was just asking because you seem like you get on better with older people. You know, living with your grandmum 'n all." Could he actually have something in common with Tobias Tempus, afterall?

"This is stupid," she stated decidedly, wand in one hand and a West in the other. What did the countless number of times Alice had successfully cast the spell in class stand for if not that she'd mastered the material? Although Bellaire couldn't possibly know about her progress if she hadn't actually been present in the class to see it. Ahem.
But either way, the seventh year was completing the homework assignment, 'cause she was a good kid. She dragged her boyfriend along too, on account of Transfiguration bored her to death most of the time, and Alice needed something interesting to keep her from dozing off. Also because she needed reminders of what they'd learned in class. The moment she'd found a nice spot by the lake to work in, Alice started drawing blanks.
"What was the movement for the wood again?" Point? Jab? Something. Merlin.
She blamed Bellaire for her information retaining skills in this subject.

West settled down on the grass, and might have just watched but figured he'd get this stuff over with as fast as possible so that then they'd have some non-homework time together. That'd be good, that was an inspiring reason to do it all wasn't it? It was. He grinned at her and then turned his attention to his own bit of wood.
"Lignum Navicula!" He tapped the wood with his wand, focusing hard on it becoming a boat... small boat anyways. So it worked, but was it water tight? "Did you bring something in the bag that we can put in the boats to see if they stay dry and all that?"

And since Alice hadn't brought any would be passenger, that left it up to West to do something.
He put the boat down and dropped his wand into his hand.
"Rabbits." He suggested. Yes? West looked around until he found a couple of rocks of a good enough size for their boats and held them up. Rabbits? Was she okay with that? He passed her one of the rocks and then pointed his wand at the other rock. "Lapifors!"
The rock bulged and then all of a sudden expanded, fur pushing out and then ears and a nose and tail... until there was a bunny sitting in his hand looking quite startled.
He examined it seriously and then popped it in his boat.
Yep. He was ready to test and see if it floated.

Did they really HAVE to put something in them? She was perfectly fine with just chucking her boat in the lake and seeing if it floated or not, but apparently West had other ideas. Hopping ideas.

"What are you going to do if they sink? Jump in and save them?" 'Cause he wasn't really going to let a bunny drown, right? Maybe she'd been spending too much time with Mo and his animal loving ways, but that seemed strangely unethical. Also, why hadn't he transfigured her rock too? Didn't he know Alice was lazy?
"Lapifors." After a point at the rock, it began to enlarge, sprouting fur and two floppy ears and a wet nose thing that ended up shoved into her palm. Only hers was a lot fatter than West's on account of her rock had been larger. She had to cast a Shrinking Charm on the alarmed looking bunny to make it fit in her boat, and then she was finally ready for testing too.
This was ridiculous.

Looked confused and huddled in the bottom of the boat, probably wishing it was still a rock.

Alright so the man didn’t want to play Flame Tag that well stunk really, but whatever it was fine. He would find others to play with. What Bart was excited about was the fact that the professor liked his idea of Flame Tag that to him meant something which should be a big deal to a professor, because not much meant things to him from them.

But.. but he was laughing at Bart and this got a scowl because he didn’t liked to be laughed out. “What’s so funny?” Did he think blowing up potion labs was funny? Even Bart couldn’t not smile thinking about that. Even though he was sure the professor didn’t know about the blowing up part of his old school.
Oh he was glad he came the second year grinned at this, “I am too for some things.” Like meeting this guy, he understood how Bart’s visions worked it seemed and now he was talking the great language saying he would enhance his vision. YES!! That would be awesome so he could do experiments in that lab. This was going to be wicked. Then when he said he would consider it that was even more epic did he know, because that meant he was going to let him experiment. He just knew it would come to that. “That would be great. There are a few things I’d love to try out and mix together.” The sky was the limit in his mind when it came to potions he could use. His newest thought was a facial hair one for a girls prank. Yep that would be fun.
His grin and excitement turned to a frown, “No? but.. but why not.” No he had to find that squid today he wanted to see that squid. Bartholomew needed to come out of the water. WHERE ARE YOU SQUID!! He was screaming in his head. “What if he doesn’t like me? What if he doesn’t get me like you do? None of the professors get me like you do. I was kicked out of class because the man didn’t want to teach.”
Huff this wasn’t going the way he wanted at all.
Lucky for him, Cosgrach missed that scowl while laughing, because he wasn't a fan of scowls, you see. He didn't miss his comment though, and raised an eyebrow.
"Like?" Things he was glad to be here for? Cosgrach had always been curious about things that binded a person to a place, and he hoped the boy would honestly tell him now.
The man couldn't decide for sure whether he was dealing with a potentially great potineer or a plain stupid adventurer, so he had to ASK before he promised more to the boy.
"What are those things, son?" Did he actually KNOW somethings?
Oh man, he should have known better. But he still knew better. It was just a matter how 'how' and 'what' to explain.
"Because the water is contaminated." He casually omitted 'probably'. That colour sure wasn't PROMISING. "It's getting cold. The squid isn't the only creature there. You wouldn't want to be held hostage by grindylows. And the lake is huge. Shouting there won't get you far either. If the squid isn't in your vision, it would take you a week to find it." He shrugged. His tone was casual, because for all he knew, the boy could just ask an older student to perform the spell and get in there after Cosgrach left. It would be his problem then, though. It was his problem now. Cosgrach was just warning him without being dramatic and exaggerating to scare him off.
"But he seems like a good guy." The CoMC Professor. "I'm sure if you said you wanted to learn more about the squid--" because Cosgrach appreciated his reason, but he was sure Javier wouldn't fully get it, "--he would inform you and if you acted like this super nice, responsible and hardworking child, I can't see why he shouldn't hold class about it and let you all in the lake." Fair enough?

She smiled and paused and looked at him as he described his brother, "Well, you seem fun to me." She smiled at him, "I mean... I do enjoy talking to you." She paused, thinking those two things probably sounded a little odd but she could deal with that later if he thought it sounded weird.
"So would you say you followed in your brothers feet with all of that stuff?" She smiled weakly. Anna could see it, if that was the case.

It seemed that way. The Hogwartian wasn't remotely surprised by Ella's words, she definitely looked like the kind who cared about animals. We still like Bellaire, though.
"Thanks!" They did a wonderful job, clearly. And should totally team up for Transfiguration in the future.
Now, back to the boat, hers was safely on the blanket, out of harm and water's way. And the vine was in her hand when Ella spoke next. Right. The spell. She remembered this one, actually. "It's Vinea Funiculus," nothing fun here, this is practice, "And pointing instead of tapping." In case Ella also needed help with that.
"Vinea Funiculus!" she said, pointing at the vine and... she probably did a terrible job at focusing because that rope seemed like it could be cut with the edge of a piece of parchment. "Like that... only much, much better." Disgusting example of magic. Mediocrity at its best. She touched the rope and wrinkled her nose before returning it to its former state.
Permission, yes. Ella nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. This was nice, having a normal conversation with Lottie without feeling like she wanted to make a quick getaway. Perhaps the talk they'd had earlier in the term had made things a bit better between them? At least now she knew where she stood if anything.
Vinea Funiculus and pointing. Sounded familiar. "Yeah, that. Thank you." For the reminder. The eighteen year old had notes in her bag somewhere but she wasn't keen to go fishing for them at the moment. There was just way too much stuff in there. She...should probably clean it out later or something.
Amusing, that was. Ella smiled a bit wider at the demonstration, noting Lottie's dissatisfaction with her work. "It wasn't that bad. Perfectly good rope if you're, say, a mouse." She was kidding, of course, and not meanly either. "Your next one will be better." Obviously. The brunette didn't strike the blonde as the type to give up until something was perfect or near to.
Her turn.
Pointing her wand at the vine, Ella concentrated on what she wanted and then said clearly, "Vinea Funiculus!" Hm. It was a rope, not a bad one either. Ella set her wand down and picked it up in her hands, tugging on it gently. "Strong but...too heavy, I think." Ella wasn't exactly the strongest around so she'd need to work on that.
"Reverto."

"Maybe later?" he said, nodding at the cane. He DID want to take a closer look at the cane. Maybe find out where Botros had gotten one from?
But he grinned, especially at the way the man was clapping. For HIM. "You think so?" Should he explain? "Oh... it's to help us survive out in a jungle. I mean... if we're stuck and we need ropes or a boat, we use these spells." And he was eighteen which meant that he could use magic outside of school without the fear of getting a letter from the Ministry. "The other one... is to transfigure this chunk of wood," Which he nodded at. "... into..." This one was harder which meant more concentration, yeah? Deep breaths... "Lignum Navicula!"TAP!
"... into a boat." Which was sitting in place of the chunk of wood. He picked up a small rock and placed it into the boat. Small boat was small.
In the bag? This was MUCH more exciting than the boat and rope. "I brought snacks! I thought it'd be a good idea to eat and practice spells at the same time. ... Erm... how do you feel about..." The Hufflepuff reached into the bag and pulled out two small boxes, both filled to the brim. "... sandwiches? One is peanut butter and jam and the other one is BLT." Did Botros want some?
She smiled and paused and looked at him as he described his brother, "Well, you seem fun to me." She smiled at him, "I mean... I do enjoy talking to you." She paused, thinking those two things probably sounded a little odd but she could deal with that later if he thought it sounded weird.
"So would you say you followed in your brothers feet with all of that stuff?" She smiled weakly. Anna could see it, if that was the case.
*That was a little confusing to hear. Someone thought that he was fun? She must just be saying that to be nice, he thought. His family had told him a number of times that watching paint dry was more fun that Romulus. Her next comment made him chuckle a little as he shook his head.*
"No way. I'm nothing like my brother. He plays sports I see them as rather dull. I'm good at school work, he was popular with girls and stuff. Pretty much anything Jacen is I'm the opposite. Always been that way."

How to survive in the jungle? Oh wow. That was one exotic class, if he could say so himself. He scratched his non-existent goatee and watched the boy turn a bunch of wood into a boat. From his first try, too! Aww, Botros chuckled with amusement and moved to tap the boat with his knuckles. Y'know, checking if it was wood for real. "Great job, really."
The professor gave the Hufflepuff all the curious looks as he bent and grabbed the bag. "Oooh. Who made these sandwiches?" Before he could be greedy and take one of the boy's. They were still growing at this age, they needed all the sandwiches they could get. "No, thank you. I'm full." He declined nicely and then folded his sleeves up, to get to work with Summers. Bay walked down towards the black lake with his objects in his hands muttering the words he needed to master. "Vinea Funiculus and what was the other one.. oh right Lignum Navicula!" going over and over in his head. getting right down to where the water meets the ground he placed his items down and was super focused on trying to slowly pronounce each word.

Botros checking the boat made Alec feel better and... as if this was an Ancient Runes lesson where they had to write in runes. Yeah, and Botros was checking to see if he had written it correctly. Which reminded the boy: he needed to make a start with that piece of homework.
... One homework at a time. "Thanks!" GRIN. "I think this one is harder than the rope one which... was why I started with that first." You know, if the man wanted to know.
"I did!" he said, his chest puffing out a little in pride. They were no pancakes or waffles but... his sandwiches weren't bad, right? Right. "Okay. Erm... if you get peckish, feel free to take one, yeah?" Also, was Botros planning on helping him with the spells? ... Maybe? The man used the word 'we'. Not you, we. Which meant...
... He got to work with BOTROS! GRIN.
Trying not to look overly happy about this, Alec nodded and set the boxes of sandwiches down on top of his bag before turning to look at the boat. "Reverto." It was good to start from the beginning, yeah? "I think we can try and make a bigger boat. I mean... if you're stuck in a jungle, you'd need a boat big enough to fit yourself and the people you're with, yeah?" And one that would float. That was something they could try later. Right now... he was just going to...

Ben hadn't been sure about the transfiguration homework. Working with someone required finding someone to do it with you and he didn't think he should simply monopolize Adi's partnership when the Hufflepuff had other friends who might want to work with him as well. So the Gryffindor had went in search for other options only to stumble upon an older lion who still needed a partner and was willing to work with him.
Jackpot.
So they had arranged to meet at the Black Lake with their wands, vines and wood since they needed the water in their testing anyway. The second year slipping everything into his satchel and making his way down when it was time, looking out for the older boy. Thankfully he was recognizable, Bay situated near the water's surface. "Hey..." he greeted as he came up beside him, taking his own seat upon the grass. "How well have you been at the spells?" His own work had been...okay.

He knew that was sarcasm, yes? As opposed to references to other skill sets he possessed?
Or not. That expression said otherwise. Alice wrinkled her nose and turned back to her vine, which had thickened and toughened and twisted itself into a piece of rope around the size of the starting material. Was there any way to test if they had become strong enough?
But that might have been unnecessary, seeing as vines were rugged, too. So she'd just wait for West. Yeah.
