A small pond between the Quidditch Pitch and the Front Gate is the home of , not eight like previous year , but ten ducks. The Duck pond is surrounded by trees, bushes and five wooden benches that had been placed near the pond for anyone wanting to sit down and relax or feed the ducks. The previous Groundskeeper left a container which is filled daily with pieces of bread to give to the small creatures.

He did not just say that! Adi felt his cheeks growing hot. Uh oh. How was the girl gonna respond to that? Slap him? A hex or a jinx?
Fascinating creatures? Well, that made sense. Sophie didn't really get a chance to mingle with many Muggle-type creatures as it was, so she guessed she would find them fascinating, too. "That's cool," she said. "So what do you like about them?" After walking around the grounds so much, she was starting to get tired of standing up, so she took a seat on a nearby rock.
Smart and pretty? Sophie giggled just a little then looked back up at him. "Well, thank you," she said, "but don't let my brother hear you say that." The part about her being pretty, that is. Caleb had some weird idea that Sophie needed protecting around boys and shouldn't date until she was thirty-three or something. Then it really hit her--a boy had said she was pretty! She was only eleven, so this was a first for her. It made her sort of nervous.

It was a beautiful crisp Autumn day on the Hogwarts grounds...and Vesper planned to take full advantage. Sketch book and shading pencils in hand, she slowly crept out, noting her surroundings as she went. Something else that was really beautiful was the large hourglasses with all the differently colored rocks in them in the entrance hall. Or....Ves assumed they were rocks. Surely they weren't REAL....Rubies?...Sapphires?....Emeralds?...and whatever yellow gems were. Topaz? Maybe?
It was officially on her list of things to draw...
Once outside, she seen ducks in the distance, deciding to walk a bit more quickly, ambling towards the water. Light sparkled off its surface in an interesting way...and she desperately wanted to capture that. So, that would be the plan for today. Ducks on sparkling water...
Carefully taking a seat, Vesper crossed her legs and propped the sketch pad up on her knee. Selecting a more heavy shading pencil from her pouch, she began tracing out the initial lines. A duck would come first, obviously....and the water would ripple out beneath it in gentle, relaxing rings. Already feeling a calm settling over, the Ravenclaw set pencil to paper.

She took the apple back and turned it around to find an a spot for biting. Mo was being a boy and taking big bites. "I told her so. I told her you are a nice boy and sweet and my boyfriend, but I think she needs convincing." What kind of adventure? Cat took a bite of the apple and handed it back to Mo as Sharky tried to lick it. "A Hogwartsy kind. She's a first year so something that she doesn't know about, you know?" He knew. She was sure he knew. He was smart.

Cat made eyes at Mo and the apple and when she took it back she opened her mouth really wide and took a bite over his. The poor apple was getting demolished. Though that was no surprise, food didn't stand a chance with a Marcus/Caterina team.
"Don't insult her intelligence, though. She is a Ravenclaw, after all. And she's adorably precious and I've adopted her as my little sister." Because he needed to know that too, so he could behave properly. Cat leaned against Mo's arm to give Sharky a kiss because she missed her and she looked so cute all curled up with him. Cute little baby kitty. "I'm not supposed to help you, either. I'm also not supposed to tell you that she's testing you with this adventure." Cat was NOT supposed to tell him that, but she didn't want little Sophie to be let down, so she was going to make sure he knew things. Important things.

After having waited outside of the Ravenclaw common room like a creep for a while, Ella decided that her latest target for recruitment wasn't inside. It was sort of disheartening seeing as there was like a bazillion other places the claw could be but at least she'd be getting her exercise. That was especially important cause Quidditch and all. Mhm.
Deciding that the weather meant there would be lots of people outside, she figured she'd check there next. Plus she sort of wanted to get some fresh air and thought she could maybe kill two birds with one stone. Ohmygosh, that was so mean considering Ravenclaws and meep. So yeah, outside she went.

Usually the Whomping Willow would be Ella's first stop because Alec reasons and she really liked it there but then she thought of Martin. She hadn't visited the little duck since she'd returned to school and she felt sort of bad about it. Since she was still looking for Vesper, she figured she could check there. Why not, yeah?
And apparently Vesper was a fan of ducks too because when the badger arrived, there she was. Or at least Ella hoped that was her. They hadn't exactly met properly and the blonde had only heard about her writing skills so it'd be incredibly awkward if it wasn't her. Yup.
She wandered over to the girl quietly, hands tucked into her pockets. How had Kurumi recruited her again? Oh Merlin, this was going to go horribly. She just needed to...ease into it. Yeah...

He just blabbed whatever came to mind but he'd better get control of himself. What if he said something totally crazy? He held out the bread he was holding. "Want to feed them?''
Adi grinned nervously as the girl giggled. Honestly, he was relieved at the reaction. He had been regretting not passing off it as "Pretty smart'' but she didn't seem to mind. "Why?'' the little firstie asked, curiously. "It is true, you know.'' That she was pretty and all so her brother should know that guys would compliment his sister. He knew her brother, having met him at the Maze.

Now they were sharing baby kitty instead of Mo being a Sharky-hog. It gave him time to wonder over what part of his plan Cat objected to on Sophie's behalf. "Well. What do you reckon, then? A hunt? A... visit to the barn? A photoshoot?" Since he had his Cat!camera now, Mo could probably manage to take some pictures and get them developed pretty quickly.
Dylan beamed. "I adore duckies too!" he said, bouncing where he sat in excitement. Duckies were so cute, but not as cute as his kitty Ginger. Speaking of which, where was that cat? Dylan glanced around himself and then spotted the orange kitten at the shore of the pond, staring intensely with her ears perked at the ducks swimming about. The first year chuckled, wondering what the cat was thinking about while watching the ducks.
Then, the girl was holding her hand out towards him, asking him to join her. He raised an eyebrow and then smiled, grabbing her hand and standing up. He then began to twirl around, just like she had been doing... but not as good as she had done
Taylor beamed at the young boy, ”Glad to hear it!” Tay twirled in delight at what he said then looked where he was looking at and saw the orange kitty. She bursted into a fit of giggles and smiled at the sight. Taylor thought the kitten was cute so she said, ”Speaking of things I adore, I am starting to adore that little kitty of yours.” She beamed, ”She is absolutely adorable!” Tay nodded at that and then beaned as he took her hand and stood up. Taylor grinned as they both began to twirl around. She loved to dance with her friends and, yes, she was starting to consider the firstie as one of her friends now despite her being a seventh year and would be graduating this year. Age doesn’t matter among friends and this just goes to prove it… doesn’t it?

"Ahh," Sophie said, nodding as if this boy had just explained everything just by saying the ducks walked funny. "I haven't had much experience with them. I've never lived around them, and my family's mainly pureblood anyway. I know more about magical creatures." She could tell him abut a nundu faster than she could tell him about a duck.
Did she want to feed one? "Yeah, but I can't right now. I was on my way back to the castle," she said. "Definitely some other time, though." It was actually nice out here. Sophie figured it'd get kind of depressing to stay in the dungeons twenty-four seven. "...but before I leave, you asked about my brother. He tries to be really protective. He's just all talk, though." She shrugged. Caleb couldn't do much harm.
Standing up from the rock she'd been sitting on, she added, "Well, I'll see you around. Have a cool day." She grinned at him, waved, and then turned to leave. Before long, she'd arrived back at the castle.

"Birthday?" That certainly caught Mo's attention, as he suspected Cat would realize. He rested his cheek against the top of her head as he considered how hard it would be on the bully-baby to be at school without her family and knowing it was her special day.

The more she thought this over, the more she liked the idea. Sophie could have an adventure and a birthday party all in one and who better to give those things to her than her favorite Slytherin and the boy? NO ONE, obviously. No one was better. Except maybe the child's parents, but Cat wasn't going to think about that anymore cause it just made her sad.
"Aye, Captain." That was most definitely 100% sarcasm and she was looking very pleased with herself. She'd been waiting for that one. Cat saluted and grinned. "I'll help." She crossed her heart and sighed before sitting up on her own and scooping up Sharky who was NOT having the attention deprivation. She was not having it. "I guess I should go feed the Shark too." She was getting testy. Cat could understand. "Not goodbye. Until later." Cat nodded and gave him one kiss, "And another for luck." And two kisses.

Moving on. Salem. She quit toying with the grass and set her hands in her lap. "My dad got promoted, so that's why we moved." Schuyler didn't mind the change because she was still intent on returning to New York at some point. "I loved Salem," she smiled. "More students than Hogwarts, but with that, less intimacy. We also didn't have a hat to sort us." That was one thing about Hogwarts that Schuyler had thought peculiar, but interesting nonetheless: being sorted by a hat that knows what's in your head AND your heart. She glanced over at Dora to see her soaking up some sunshine. "Siberia? Wow. I hope you're a good skier?" Or snowboarder. But, sheesh! Really, though, Schuyler wasn't surprised at all. The girl's name was plain evidence of her origins. And then the accent.
Adrienne rubbed her eyes blearily as she dragged herself down to the duck pond. She could not believe that she’d woken up at three in the morning just for some stupid Astronomy homework, and were it not for the fact that she knew she wouldn’t be able to get back to sleep anyway what with the snoring of the girl in bed next to her, she probably would have just rolled over and stayed within the comforting warmth of her bed. Sigh.
She was looking over at the silhouettes of the ducks with their heads tucked under their wings and pondering on the eerie silence of the whole area when she walked straight into a bench. Cursing, she sat down on the same bench, pulling a heavy textbook and a pair of binoculars out of the canvas bag she had with her. Adrienne flipped to the back of the book, where the index and reference pages were housed, and turned to the star chart.
“Mars rises in the east...” she murmured, squinting through the darkness to look at the book and then sitting up, realising how stupid she was, and lighting her wand with a quick, “Lumos!” and getting a better look at the chart.
Moments later, she placed her still-lit wand in the palm of her hand. “Point Me,” she said to it, and it rotated until it pointed to her right. “Never-Eat-Soggy-Waffles,” Adrienne said quietly, then turned all the way around so she was sitting backwards on the bench and put on her binoculars to look.
It took her several minutes of searching, but soon enough she found it, right below the constellation of – she checked the star chart – the constellation of Virgo, but was more easily identified by the much larger and brighter planet – according to the book, that was Jupiter – next to it. It shone a dull reddish colour, just a small dot in the night sky that she probably wouldn’t have noticed were she not looking for it. Adrienne sighed. It would have been nice if she could see it up close; that would be super cool. Instead all she got to see was a dull red light, the appearance and size of which she recorded in her notebook before gathering her things and heading back inside.

Less skeptical of Mo than she had been before today, Sophie still stayed close to Cat's side, an elated bounce in her step as they made their way outside. She thought it was an awful great coincidence that Cat had decided to make Mo take them on those adventures on her birthday. Maybe it was Cat's intution. Or... just the way things had worked out, but Sophie had kept her mouth shut about it being her special day the whole time and just enjoyed every bit of the perfect coincidence it was.
Surprisingly, Mo had done a good job of leading them around and not implying that Sophie needed a leash or anything mean like that again. He even seemed a bit pleased to be with the both of them. Had he changed his mind about her? Was she no longer a first year nuisance by default? Maybe she had changed his mind by being really good at Gobstones or leading the house in points and was STANDING OUT in his mind as a really good asset to the house!!! Grinning at her own thoughts, Sophie nodded brightly at Cat and agreed, avoiding the Ravenclaw Captain's gaze, "Yeah, he's a big goober, but he's cool."
Sophie swung Cat's hand merrily as they went... until she saw a little table up ahead. A table. Outside? That wasn't... that didn't make sense. Why would someone drag a table all the way out there? Were they that eager to practice their Divination outside? "Y-You remembered?" Sophie got all wibbly, bashfully pulled her long brown hair over her shoulder, and began to run her hands through it nervously. She shifted her wide-eyed, blurred gaze from Cat to Mo, a bit incredulous. "You did this, too?"

Nerida hated carrying the telescope it sure was heavy sometimes, and at times she felt like she was going to drop it... But then Professor Airey would kill her... And she liked being alive.
Finally finding a spot she set her telescope down and set it up. Just like the first time. She gave a look for the other constellation before trying to look for the others... But no luck it wasn't there.
Now for the star, what was it again? Antares? Yeah that sounded right.. First she took out her star chart and looked for it. After finding it she looked around in the sky.. No luck that wasn't there either.
No time for the planets!! Mars and Saturn! She took her telescope and started looking, searching everywhere... When she was just about to give up and pack up and go to different location she saw it... There it was!! She found it! YAY!

After making a 'short on notice' plans with Lottie, Tag made his way down to the duck pond with her.
He hadn't done this yet this year but the little blondie knew he had to come here and feed the ducks. Alec and him could do this another day if they wanted to. Yeah? Besides they had the rest of their lives to feed ducks anyway. Tag was sure Alec wouldn't mind.
So, making his way over to the little container that held pieces of bread for the ducks, Tag opened it up, kneeled down by the edge of the duck pond, and started to throw bits into the pond.
Was Lottie going to sit by him? "Are you gonna feed them with me, the master? Or you just gonna watch me?" He asked, turning around to smile at her. Either way, he was cool with both of whatever choice she made.

Brilliant really.
Back to the ducks. Lottie was still eating raspberries - Oakey would be so proud - and was not planning on sharing those. Thankfully, the ducks had their own food. Good. Excuse me, what? Master? Of course, what did Lottie know about this? She still laughed, he was funny. And almost immediately sat beside him, "You know, duck-feeding master, they have to be closer otherwise they won't notice the bread," she said, returning his smile and then eating one more raspberry.
"I can do both, I'll just watch for now." Until she's finished with the berries, that is.
She haaaad a question, though, "I do wonder...," mmhmmm, "...since you're my best friend's pet leprechaun...," of course, there was nothing ODD about that, at all, "...does she feed you?" Or was he like the ducks?

Tag kept up with Oakey, because he was having a good laugh with it. But he really wished it were possible.

But still, the curtains of her bed were silver now, she was okay.
So, fear of ducks wasn't something strange, she just really wanted to know WHO would fear them, they're pretty harmless. And the little ones are adorable.

If this was his way of hinting he wanted a duck... well, he could get one on his own, but she wouldn't share any custody this time. Clover was enough, and now looking at the water she kind of missed her. Oakey? Whaaaat about Oakey? Lottie laughed when he was done, noooo, she didn't want one! "What? A super-speedy duck? What's the point of it if you can barely see it thanks to its speed?" Almost instantly she already found uses for a super speedy creature, "You think the speed would work on the water or grounds... or both?" This was important for her hypothetical uses.
She doesn't? "Oh, that's great!" Otherwise he'd be poorly fed, IF fed at all. Felix had no complaints, though. Rainbows and pots of gold. HAHAHAHAHA! How adventurous they were. N'awww, thank you, Tag, "That means a lot, really, thanks for that, Mr. Unicorn." Cue sweet smile. The less candy Lex got for free, the better.
It might be just before 03:00, but Tora wasn't the least bit tired. She was doing Astronomy! Who wouldn't love this? As much as she felt awake now, she knew that she would feel doubley tired in the morning. This was the reason she had planned to do her Astro homework on a Friday night so she could sleep all day Saturday. Ravenclaw smarts. Or well anybody smarts if they took the time to think things through.
She gently lowered her telescope to the ground, as she had been carrying it all the way from the lab down to the pond using the Wingardium Leviosa spell. "Finite" she said finally releasing it from her magical grasp. She adjusted it so it was sturdy and dropped her book on the ground, open to the page on Mars, her quarry for the night.
"Lumos" she muttered before cursing and lowering the glare from her wand. her hand dived into her bag as she searched for a particular object. Pulling it out, the moonlight, and the dimmed light from her wand, revealed an old school compass. The kind that Muggles use. This one was special though. Her Gram had given it to her for her 11th birthday. The compass didn't point North, instead it pointed in the direction she was facing. There were thin drawers that, when pulled out from the rounded sides, magically displayed the celestial bodies in the night sky and their position to the beholder in a slightly translucent dome over the face of the compass. Whichever way the compass needle was pointing was the direction you were facing. This device was one of Tora's most prized, and loved, possessions.
She quickly found Mars and crossed it off her list. Wow, it was beautiful. The red planet made Tora feel restless, a longing to be out there among the stars surging through her. However, instead of moving onto finding the next object she stood, bent over, looking into the telescope at the far away planet. What was it like up in space? Maybe one day she would find out.

Perfect! They could see him. Which was better cause then obviously all the ducks will remember Tag and come waddling over to them. AND OH! Right on cue... here came a duck, waddling of course, towards him. He'd never been this close to a duck and the boy simply smiled at the little fella. "The duck heard you, Lottie! It heard you. Look...he/she wanted to say hi to us." Tag began to wave at the duck and looked at Lottie expectantly.
Quickly ripping up more pieces of bread Tag threw it towards the duck as it quacked and waddled around them.
Why did Lottie not say anything about the ducks getting love? Hmmm. Anyway, no, they wouldn't be getting a duck. That was going to be his an Alec's thing. Tag was beginning to feel sorry for Saxon. Two dogs, one turtle and soon to be a couple of ducks. Until he moved from the house, then Saxon would be left with one dog and that would be it.
"Super-speedy-invisible duck. But it would just be called SD. Super duck. Yep. It would wear a speedo suit, and it'd have a red SD on it's chest!" See how awesome that duck would be? "Well, I suppose you would see the duck have some head start on running before it goes invisible. See its trail of walkway." Common sense. And did Lottie not see the ducks in water right now? "Of course it'd work on water. And yeah, the ground too. " He answered her with a nod.
And another nod. "You're welcome, Flower! But, err, why'd you want to know if Lex feeds me or not? Are you worried about my nutrition?"

Adi didn’t know why but he decided to take up the search for Mars next. That planet always fascinated him ever since that day when he sat with his Dad to watch what turned out to be an interesting documentary about a robot from NASA landing on it to do research. How cool that was! Landing on a planet, being able to roll around and sending back information to earth. Plus it reminded him of Wall E. They both looked something alike.
Humming softly to himself, the little badger located Mars on his star chart after which he stuck his eye to the telescope and turned it to the general direction of Mars. Again, he encountered numerous stars and constellations. He had never actually paid attention to the amount of stars in the sky. Man, were there a lot!
“Where oh where are you Mars?’’ Adi muttered. “Are you lost?’’ He glanced back at his star chart. He was in the right direction. “Oh! There you are!’’ The telescope was positioned on the planet all along! Silly Adi.
