Floodwater subsided and other chaos behind her, Josephina opened up the Arithmancy classroom in an effort that hopefully they will make it further in their curse-breaking studies this time. She just hoped the students weren't too frustrated with her lack of a first lesson in terms of learning much, but also hoped she could make up for it in her remaining lessons of the term.
Propping the door open, the brunette strode over to have a seat behind her desk and skimmed over her notes from last lesson, making mental notes on what still had to be discussed...
ooc: lesson will begin in a couple hours ... or 12 hours, depending on how many people post now =) Sorry for the short notice <3
Lesson Progression
* Question One: Why senses / sense impairment is important to curse-breaking?
* Question Two: What is the incantation used to find numbers associated with curses?
* Question Three: Moving on.....what's a cryptogram?
* And now solving cryptic messages...

Arithmancy was going to go smoother this time, yeah? And maybe a they'd be a little drier too? That would be kinda cool. In any case, Ella headed to the classroom with a smile.
Entering the room, Ells offered Hadley a wide smile. "Hi Professor, how are you?" Probably better now that her classroom wasn't sinking. Yup, no longer Titanic status which was good.
The fourteen year old then found a seat in the middle of the classroom and plopped down with a small smile, setting her bag down on the floor beneath her. Right. She was ready to go.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Unbelievable.
The lesson hadn't even started yet and the Professor was already at her desk looking all busy and drawn into her work. Sigh. Professors. Didn't they know they could relax before the last student entered the class?
"Hello Professor." She said, offering the woman a smile as she entered. "I'm looking forward to your class." But only because she'd missed the first one and wanted to know what kind of Teacher Professor Hadley was. As the class progressed she would see if she was still looking forward to it as much as now.

Minerva was yawning as she walked into Professor Hadley's class. The sleeping bags were getting to her and the lack of sleep was starting to show a bit. "Hello Professor. Hope Myrtle stays were she belongs today." She always liked Professor Hadley's class even if she wasn't great at it. Her head of house was one of her favorites and she would not miss this class for the world.
Looking around she couldn't believe she was one of the first to be in there. Picking a seat towards the front, she pulled her book, parchment and quill out of her bag and placed on the table. "Any new news on the common rooms professor?" While they had some time she figured she might ask to see if anything had been found out as of yet.

Please don't let this class become a repeat of the last one. She'd thought that she was never going to get her shoes dry! And there was no way she could've cast a drying spell on them, since the material shrunk under those. So air drying it had been. Anyway, she went into this lesson hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Including wearing some older shoes that had seen better days. "Hello, professor," she greeted, finding herself a seat. She pulled some parchment and a quill out of her bag before placing it under her desk. There, all ready!

Ehh. Alex was never too fond of this class, but he'd actually been doing pretty well in this class lately. Numbers were never his strong suit, but he'd been trying to go slower when doing the equations, and it had been a LOT easier. "Hello Professor!" he said with a smile for the professor as he took his seat.

Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Finally! Arithmancy was starting up again, and Oakey was crossing his fingers and toes in the hope that nothing would flood and the Moaning Myrtle would keep to herself today. "Hiya Professor Hadley." Oakey said as he picked a desk unknowingly right next to Minerva. You know the Fellow Hufflepuff, and Quidditch Announcer who couldn't keep her mouth shut during the game about his and Laura's failed relationship. She clearly took sides in the match as well supporting Laura, and totally blew his fear out of proportion.
That aside, Oakey removed his things from his bag and set them up on his desk. "Are we gonna continue our lesson on Curse Breaking?" He asked his Head of House. He hadn't lost interest in the career and wanted to learn three times as much as he could today.
Arithmancy again! Ira liked the subject, but after the last class, hoped that nothing weird was going to happen this time around. The mucky yucky water from th loos and ghosts and what not!
"Hello Professor Hadley!" Ira said cheerfully, noticing how busy Hadley appeared to be. So that meant they were in for lots of work today. Oh well!
Ethan was not really looking froward to Arithmancy, especially after his experience in the last class. But he did not have a choice in whether or not to come to class. It was at his parent's insistence and he was not going against their wishes.. at least not something as trivial as class attendance.
"Good day, Professor," he said with a pleasant smile as he walked past the woman. It wasn't her fault the class turned out the way it did.. or at least he didn't think so anymore. The boy turned and glanced around the room for a place to sit.. and his green eyes fell on Minerva. Really, Minnie? Front row? Chuckling to himself, he smiled at her and made his way over until he saw the seat next to her was already occupied.. by some Puff boy. Frowning a little he took the seat behind her.. he guessed he didn't have to sit next to her in every class.

Minerva was watching as students came in and didn't pay much attention as Oakey came walking in.. Well she was surprised he didn't fall, trip, or hit anything, but other then that just a normal entrance. What she was very surprised at was when he sat down next to her. She spent part of term with a huge crush on him and he didn't notice nor talk to her really at all and now.. now that she was over it and dating someone he would sit next to her. Well then, whatever.. She was trying to let go of her annoyance with him not only from ignoring her most of term, but also being a jerk to her when Elliot was mean, siding with that girl instead of his own housemate. But, putting that past her hopefully she gave a weak smile, "Hello Oakey... How are you today?" That came out a little colder then she would have liked, but it was a work in progress.. "Ever get your bat back from the match?" Oh she was on a roll and needed to stop..
And her distraction to stop her just walked through the door. She smiled as she saw him greet the professor, he didn't seem like he wanted to be here, but she knew he had been tired, so that might have been the problem. Glaring towards Oakey again she knew Ethan would have sat next to her, but he was already there. Sitting behind her was fine though, he was close enough, except she couldn't maybe daydream about him and see him... She needed to focus anyone, turning she smiled, "Hey Ethan, sorry.." She moved her eyes towards Oakey so that it wasn't obvious she was talking about him, but still obvious to Ethan what she was saying sorry for. "Umm. Do you know Oakey? Oakey this is my boyfriend Ethan.. Ethan this is Oakey."

Making her way towards the Arithmancy classroom, Kurumi wondered if the flooding had stopped...and what had caused it...and why the water had been a creepy grey color. Entering the classroom, Kurumi made her way towards her usual seat, saving the one beside her for Lewis as usual, and then turned her attention towards Professor Hadley. "Good day, professor."
Now...where were her notes from the previous lesson...

There was a careful way by which the Ravenerd made his way to the second floor, remembering what happened in class last time. He even imperviused his clothes and shoes this time, juuust in case it might start flooding again... or worse those storm clouds in HOM class ends up here for the most bizarre reason.
He entered the classroom and spotted the numbers guru preoccupied with her notes "Good day Professor Hadley..." he murmured politely as to not to be such a distraction too much, then made his way to his usual seat, and proceeded to bring out and organize his notes and quill neatly on his desk.

As Jory made his way into the classroom, he wondered if the flooding matter had been sorted out. He had been sorry the last class had been cut short.
Everything seemed normal when he arrived. "Oh, hello, Professor,'' he greeted. Then the Puff headed off to find a seat and run through his notes from the last class.

Why didn't he pay any attention to where he was going. Just his luck that he would sit beside the announcer who let the whole crowd at the Quidditch match know that Oakey was lowlife scum who focused more on getting back at his ex than the game itself. "Minerva." Was all he said as he tried to go back to doing...what ever it was he was doing moments ago. Ugh, she continued with her voice! He heard it enough already, "Yes, I got it in the end...okay." Now he just turned his head away from her completely and looked for something imaginary in his bag beside him.

Once she arrived at the Arithmancy classroom, Kendall's usual excitedness dimmed the slightest bit. Only because it didn't look like they were going to be playing the fun guessing game again this lesson, which meant that they probably were actually going to be learning things. Besides how to escape a flooding classroom without getting too wet, and that Myrtle wasn't a baby dementor. She actually still had to find out if baby dementors actually existed, to be honest, but that wasn't a question for Professor Hadley. And she was here already, so she couldn't exactly turn around and skip the lesson on the chance she'd have to do math.
She'd just have to make the best of it, and maybe she'd be surprised again. She still surreptitiously made her way over to the seat behind Vickers and to one side. That way, as she'd originaly intended the last lesson if things hadn't gone all "guess-what's-in-the-box" before devolving into lots of icky bathroom water. "Hi Professor Hadley," she still said, giving the professor a smile even though the woman wasn't really paying attention. Then she sat down, pulling her bag onto her lap for a second to dig around inside for a piece of chocolate before taking out her textbook and note-taking (and sketching) material as well. She'd need fortification if she was going to get through this lesson.

Josephina smiled at the young badger who was first to enter the room. Good; her late notice on her lesson hadn't affected people in coming down. "Morning, Ella. I'm alright." Given the circumstances of her house being displaced from their common room didn't justify a 'good', but they were making do, no?

Fina just only hoped that her time away from the school so early in her education had helped her, but her words were enough for now. "Welcome, Miss Cambridge. I hope we don't disappoint you then." Fina said, being truly honest with the Lion.

Speaking of other issues; Minerva just had to bring that up, didn't she? "Unfortunately no. I wish I knew why you all were displaced..." the last time this happened was due to the merpeople, but somehow she sensed the merpeople were not to blame for this term's displacements.

Once it seemed as if a fair number of students entered the room, Fina rose from her chair and gave a once-glance around each of the student's faces...
So some of them, no probably most of them, were worried about the lesson being interrupted last time. Something she worried about too, but she was not about to let that interfere with the lesson today.
"So last lesson we started talking about curses and then before it was abruptly ended, we were trying to identify some objects I had prepared given one of our senses obstructed. Can anyone think why that may be important to the subject of curse-breaking?"

Settling in to her seat and with her parchment in front of her, Kurumi nervously glanced down at the floor as if expecting there to still be water there. There wasn't...so she was just being ridiculous...so her attention was back towards Professor Hadley as she began the lesson.
Curse Breaking...what did Kurumi know about Curse Breaking...not all that much besides the very basics and, well, her logic was telling her that there were methods around what first popped into her head, but the fact that they had had their sight taken from them sort of linked. "Since we were surrounded by total darkness, losing our sense of sight, is that connected to how Curse Breakers sometimes are required to work in tombs?" Tombs where lumos wasn't effect or any other sources of light.
Although...relying on your sense of TOUCH when there were curses around did not seem like the smartest of things either.

Minerva rolled her eyes at Oakey and turned when Professor Hadley started class. She wasn't going to let him annoy her during class at least. She listened as the professor had said she still wasn't sure what was keeping them out of their common rooms. This brought a bit of a frown, she really wanted in her trunk for her candy at least, but her bed would be nice as well.
When Hadley asked the first question Minerva remembered the things they were going over last class and put her hand up, "Professor, we have to know that someone has been curse to be able to break the curse. So taking away are sight was a way to try to get us to use our other senes as well using our brain to determine what things are. The same might go for curse breaking. We need to use our senses and brain to know someone has been curse in order to do the curse breaking." Well it sounded like a sensible answer to her at least.
Minerva was watching as students came in and didn't pay much attention as Oakey came walking in.. Well she was surprised he didn't fall, trip, or hit anything, but other then that just a normal entrance. What she was very surprised at was when he sat down next to her. Ethan watched the exchange between the two Hufflepuffs with mild curiosity. He could feel quite a bit of tension between the two and he raised an eyebrow, not altogether happy with the tone the boy was using with his girlfriend. Hmm.. what was that about? The boy simply shrugged and smiled at Minnie as she apologized.. it wasn't that big of a deal, really, and it certainly wasn't her fault. He shook his head almost inconspicuously as he turned to glance at the Puff boy. No.. he did not know Oakey. Offering the boy a small smile as he shook his outstretched hand, he said, "Good to meet you Oakey.. Nah, it's cool, I'm fine here.. but thanks." It's not like they had assigned seats or anything.. besides, it might be more fun to sit behind her so he could lean forward and whisper things with a less likely chance of being noticed by Hadley. Not like that would be distracting for Minnie or anything. Snicker.

He supposed that was slightly interesting.. that was what she was trying to introduce last class with those boxes? Shrugging, he listened to the other answers then raised his hand. "Does it have to do with sharpening our senses.. sort of like what blind people have to do in order to function in society without sight?" Nothing like answering a question with a question.. but he honestly didn't know the first thing about curse-breaking and needed it to at least look like he was paying attention. Meh.

Sitting back comfortably into her seat as the lesson started, Ira took out her parchments and quill and ink bottle and kept it ready to take notes. And also removed the notes she had taken the last lesson, since this was gonna probably be last lesson's continuation.
She had almost started doodling, but looked up as Professor began. Why the identifying process was important. Ira thought about it for a while. Like, seriously, when far more easier and quicker methods were available like revealing spells and what not, why did they have to resort to the seemingly slow and relatively difficult process? Maybe because curse breaking too was an art, and art needed to be felt.
She raised her hand up and answered, continuing her thoughts, "Professor, curse breaking is a skill.." And an interesting one at that! "..And I think that a skill needs to be felt. I mean, it shouldn't just be learned by rote learning, rather by our senses." Was she making sense? She hoped so.. "What I mean, is, trusting our instincts is good, very useful."

Hannah secretly hoped that this lesson would be interupted early as well because she didn't like this class at all. It didn't make any sense to her. She remembered having to stick her hand in a box in total darkness and was glad that as of now it seemed like they were over that whole thing.
She raised her hand. "Curse-breaking isn't an easy job and you can be sure that you won't always have all of your senses to count on. I think it is important to be able to handle any situation that might be thrown at you... so what better way than to practice without one of your senses." Man that was a lengthy answer and so not Hannah's style.

Professor, I don't even wanna be a Curse Breaker. That's what Kat thought. She'd prefer to be an Auror but that will depend to her OWL and NEWT results soon. If she fails at it, well maybe she can find a position in one of the Quidditch Teams or... whatever life takes her.
Kat raised her hand. "Well, usually the sense of hearing can help especially when you're in trouble or you think you're in danger," Kat said. "And the sense of touch, well it can be useful as well. Actually all the sense are useful in different ways and in different situations. If one sense is unavailable, there's always another sense that can help." There's just too much to enumerate and Kat was just lazy. Not good.

So that's what she missed!
During her absence the Professor had them playing a guessing game. Seriously, why did all the cool stuff happen after she was gone?! That could have been a pretty cool lesson, especially since Lex loved guessing games even though she was no good at them.
One thing she found strange though was the Professor saying the lesson ended abruptly. Why would it do that? Did somebody die??? Was that why they were learning about curse breaking??? O___O
Okaaaaay she had officially formed her opinion. The Professor tried teaching them curses in the last class, some idiot didn't do it right and someone else died. Yup. Now they were learning to break curses before bad things happened. That had to be it but seeing as she had nothing to offer she kept her mouth shut and waited to find out if the others were right.

Vickers pondered her question. It was quite unusual, and quite sudden, that they lost their primary sense, which was sight. But how was it related to curse breaking and numbers divination. He sat silently for a while mulling things over, then finally raised his hand "Professor, is it an exercise on lateral or creative thinking?..... to teach us that certain objects arent always what they seem, that our vision can be tricked to thinking its just one thing but in truth its something else?"
Yeah thats what crazy is, when its broken you say theres nothing to fix++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++And you pray that everything will be okay, while you're making all the same mistakes

Alex raised his hand. "Well, when you're working with curse breaking, chances are you're in a dangerous environment, and something could happen at any time that causes one of your senses to be disrupted or compromised. Therefore it's important to make sure that if that were to happen, you're prepared and able to move forward without that sense," he explained. And that was precisely why he was NEVER going in to curse breaking. Ever.
