Default Transfiguration Lesson Three [By the Lake]

As you will have noticed the lesson today is not being held inside the classroom. Instead you have to make your way down to the lake, where a smiling Professor Magnus is ready and waiting to greet you. Behind her is a large cloth covering a large you-don't-know-what...but it's round and almost floor level. Scattered about are cushions for you to sit on, and out in the lake you notice two poles with ribbons attached - but that is for later.

Right now, you should take a seat and make sure you have your nautical themed hat with you. DO YOU?

There's some good in this world and it's worth fighting for| LOTR|Whovian|Sherlock Fan

Alyssa continued to look at the stick on the ground. Then it began to quiver before stretching out in length and width. It continued to do that and then it stopped....and right in front of her was a long straight stick. Alyssa thought that maybe the flat end was facing downwards, and so picked it up, but nope. All she had was just a stick. She had failed on her first attempt. Alyssa sighed and waved her wand at it and said "REVERTO" transforming the long stick back into the mini one that she had started out with.

Alyssa knew that she had taken things for granted. Just because the spell looked easy didn't mean that it was. She hadn't concentrated hard enough. So this time, she closed her eyes, and visualized the image of the paddle in her mind. A stick with a flat end at the end of it.

Once she had the image of the paddle in her mind, she took a deep breath and slowly let it out and then opened her eyes. She looked down at the small toothpick on the ground in front of her and visualized it being a paddle instead. Then she took out her wand, and with a wave of her wand, made a horizontal line finishing off with a loop at the end and said, "Te-Lea".

She held her breath as she watched the toothpick. For a second she thought that she had failed again but then the stick began to stretch again. It got longer and wider, and then as she watched, one end began to change and become broader and flatter than the rest of the stick. Alyssa watched as the small stick transformed into a paddle and when the transformation was complete, she let out a sigh of relief and picked up the paddle.

She examined the handle part before moving down to the paddle end. It was flat and broad. The perfect size for a paddle. Alyssa began practicing moving it around in front of her forming little figure 8's with it. She couldn't wait to get out into the lake to try out both her Coracle and paddle.

Jory watched as Professor Magnus showed them how to make the paddle then made some notes on the incantation and wand movement.

Now, it was the class's turn. "Ta-lea...'' he repeated to make sure he got the incantation right. He also practiced the wand movement for good measure.

The badger placed a stick before him. "Ta-lea!" he said and making that horizontal line with the loop at the ends with his wand and concentrating hard determined to get this right on the first try.

It worked! There was soon a paddle like the Professor's in front of him.

Nerida stopped moving in her coracle which wasn't that hard to do to look over at the Professor as she demonstrated another spell. It was good that Nerida could hear the Professor because she could barley see the Professor. She would have just gotten out but she was currently floating in the middle. The incantation was ta-lea and wand movement is a horizontal line and loop at the end.

Did she bring her wand in here? She looked down in her little boat and found it, thankfully she was not sitting on it. Now did she bring one of those sticks? Reaching in her pocket carefully since she did not want to be jabbed if they were in there. POKE, yeap they were in there. She pulled out one out of the millions that she had thought she would needed for the coracle but didn't. She set the stick onto her lap and than rethought that and placed it onto her knee. But stopped when she realized she had reached the edge. Yes she didn't have to preform the spell in the coracle and she didn't have to walk in the water. She climbed out of the tub and picked up her coracle.

After she walked back over to the place she was before her adventure in the water, she placed one of her little sticks onto the ground. Picked up her wand and with a wave of her wand she drew a horizontal line in the air with a loop at the end and said "Talea!. Nerida closed her eyes soon after she didn't want to see her failure just yet. The tiny stick began to stretch in length and than in width. One of the ends widened while the other one became very flatter than the rest. After opening her eyes a smile appeared onto her face. She hadn't imagined that the spell would work the first time!! She picked up the paddle and looked at it. It sorta looked like the Professor's but none the less it was awesome!

A Poop * k8 *

oooh, TWO spells, eh? Getting fancy, were they? Elliot smirked. It sounded a bit challenging...but Elliot was SO up to the task. She was READY. Especially since she liked Transfiguration...

Elliot boldly walked up to get her sticks..she wasnt afraid...she sat back dow, and placed them right in front of her. She prodded them a bit with her wand...just getting a feel for them, eh? Then, mimicking Professor Magnus, she waved her wand in a circle and cried, "Vegrandis Navis!" the spell shot towards the sticks, and almost immediately the sticks transformed into the little boat things...it was perfect, according to Elliot. She smirked, pleased with herself on getting it right the first time...and she even chuckled to herself...

YES.

Oh no...they were indeed going to have to SIT IN THEM. Elliot felt her face drain...she wasn't a fan of this kind of thing...she rather liked LAND, thank you very much! She did, however, want to at least get used to being in the little boat...it didn't look very sturdy, either...Professor Magnus won't let you drown, though... she though anxiously to herself.

She plopped the boat into the water in the tank. It floated. She poked it a few times, and it still remained intact and quite sturdy. She sighed, taking two deep breaths, before she stood up. She timidly put one foot into the boat...and then seemed to want to get it over with, so she fully fell into it! The coracle swayed, coming too close for Elliot, but she managed to keep it up. She breathed a sigh of relief...SHE HADNT DROWNED. YES. but she didn't want to try to go any further into the water..no, no, no! That would be just TOO much for the girl...I mean, if it floats thus far, it will float forevermore... she thought, false confidently, to herself...

The spell to create the paddle thing seemed a lot less complicated than the coracle spell. Elliot rocked a bit in the boat to get back onto land...she wanted her feet planted firmly on the ground like, NOW. She almost tipped as she hopped onto the ground, but she managed not to get wet at all..Thank Merlin. She listened to Profesor Magnus explain about the paddle spell. Hmph. She made the wand movement, the 'spoon movement,' a few times in the air, just to practice. It was a weird movement. Then, she decided to try with words! She cried, "Ta-Lea!" making the motion with her wand. The stick suddenly became a paddle...YAY. She had done it correctly...again! Elliot was proud of herself, and the smug smirk on her face said it all.

This was going to be an interesting game...even if Elliot didn't manage to drown in the lake.

If you were you would need to treat them, as muggles do, or place spells on them to make them perfect."

Clapping her hands, Issy stepped forward and waved towards those that were in the tank to get their attention as well. Making sure she was in a place they could all see her, she began to speak. "Now, I know some you would wish to carry on with the current spell, but I'm going to fill you all in on the one for the paddle. The wand movement is a line and loop, as if you are drawing the shape of a spoon in the air." That made sense right? They could visualise a spoon. Well, as long as they didn't create one.

"If there are no questions, you can go ahead and try this spell too. Or carry on for a while to get your coracle just right." Issy smiled and stowed her wand back in it's holster. She was done with it for now.

"Great, thank you" said sarah. now worries abated, the colour returned to her face. Yet she was now now in the middle of the lake, and could not get out. Lucklily, thinking ahead she had taken an extra stick and her wand with ehr just in case. First the incanatation :"Ta-lea," she said, "Ta-lea, Ta-lea, Ta-lea" she was getting good at this! No wthe wand movement, she drew a horizontal line and added a circle at the end. She tried it several times until she was satified.

Now the real deal. She took out the stick and placed it on the floor of her boat and took out her wand. She pointed her wand at it, "Ta-lea" she said, and mdrew a horizontal line with a circle at the one end. Then her stick began to tranform, thinking quickly, Sarah held up the oar, incase it might get too big for the boat when stretching. She held it as the wood thickened. Soon she was lef twith an oar.

Hmm…odd.

This piece of stick wasn’t transfiguring into the boat it was supposed to turn into. Renesmee pouted. Had she done something wrong? Most likely. Maybe she had messed up with the wand movement? Naaa. Couldn’t be. It was then that somebody nearby had said the incarnation to perform the spell. Aha! It was the wording she gotten wrong not the movement. ‘Vergrand-IS Nav-IS’. Simple enough she just needed to not say sis instead of is. That was her problem as to why the magic hadn’t worked. Before Nessie could attempt doing the spell again, the Professor had continued. The Hufflepuff stopped what she was doing and listened to the next set of instructions.

'Ta-lea'

This was the second spell today and it looked as if it was easier than the first. Like a spoon. Okay. Surely didn’t sound hard to do, and possibly this time Nessie wouldn’t mess up like she had before. Renesmee took another stick and placed it on the ground in a good position. She then pointed her wand directly at it.

"Ta-lea"
she said and then did the wand movement. Problem was she was so focused on the spoon shaped wand movement that it was all she could think about. Instead of a paddle developing from the stick, on the ground lay a fairly big wooden spoon. "Oopsie." Said Ness as she face palmed herself. Was it even possible what she had just done? It seemed so.

Maybe Transfiguration wasn’t really for her.

Right. Now on to paddles. This should't be too hard, should it? Hmm. First things first, Ella walked over and grabbed another stick. Bringing it back to her spot, she placed it on the ground and stared at it for a moment. That's right, little stick, you're going to be the best paddle ever. Mhm! Now to practice.

Without removing her wand, Ella held her hand out and began to trace the spoon shape into the air. Right. A horizontal line with a loop at the end. Not too difficult. She did this several times, making sure to concentrate on what she wanted to appear, which would be a strong and sturdy paddle.

Next, Ella decided to work on the incantation. This was extremely important as well. "Ta-lea...Yup. That's it....Ta-lea...Ta-lea...Ta-lea..." Heh. That wasn't nearly as hard as the first incantation. Thank Merlin! Now it probably made sense to try the movement and the incantation together, yeah?

Holding her imaginary wand once again, Ella traced the spoon shape into the air and, "Ta-lea!" TA-DAAAA! Practicing completed. Now to move on to the real thing.

"Oh no, my dear, I think you misunderstood the question. I asked about the technique used to steer the coracle, not the name of the paddle," Isabelle replied with a smile.

"Skulling! Well done both of you, yes. A figure of eight movement is required otherwise you tend to go in circles." She'd tried during the summer period, when she was planning lessons for the term. It was fun actually, but anyway back to the lesson.

"Technically not, although I do hope you will all sweep along in a controlled manner," Issy chuckled, smiling at the Ravenclaw as she moved over to the box by the side.

Picking out a couple of toothpick type match stick things, whatever one wanted to call them, Isabelle held them aloft for all to see. "Now, this is what you will be using to create your coracle AND the paddle. Two new spells for you all. I'll demonstrate now, then you can come and collect some of these for practice." Giving herself some room, she placed one down on the floor and looked up to make sure they were all paying attention. "This is the spell for the coracle...." Flicking her wand out, Issy pointed it downwards and did a full circle above the small stick. "Vegrandis Navis!"

Almost immediately the stick began to curl around and join it's ends together, before expanding outwards and filling in the gaps underneath. After a few seconds the bottom of the coracle sealed itself and a fully formed one sat on the ground in front of her, with just enough space for one person. Smiling, she looked up. "There, a simple enough wand movement as you can see. But quite a long spell. You need to add the emphasis on the IS portion of both words - Vergrand-IS Nav-IS. We'll get to the paddle a little later, but for now stick with this, and try to keep them about the same size as these two I made. Come and get some little sticks and you can start. Any questions, please ask."

OOC: Follow all IC instructions carefully! I'm off to bed, but Issy is still there, so I'll answer any questions tomorrow. ^__^

Quill against parchment, Vickers diligently took down his notes. Immediately he can see the benefits of being able to create a water craft even if it just holds one person. He couldnt wait to try it out.

He practiced the spell and wandwork quietly first before taking the toothpicks and laying one on the floor. Glancing quickly on the coracle that the Professor has just transformed, he focused his attention on the toothpick and with a circular turn of his wrist he uttered "Vergrandis Navis!"

The toothpick spun in its place and started to expand in the circular shaped boat, looking to be a plainer version than what the Professor conjured. He angled his head

Smiling at them all as she walked around to inspect their coracles, Isabelle flicked her wand out again and moved over to an open piece of grass. Swishing it in a square shape, a large plastic tub suddenly seemed to rise up out of the grass. Once it was stable, she filled it with water before turning to face the kids again.

"Now, when we get to the game later, I have to warn you - the coracles you are making now won't be the ones you use every time," that wasn't clear at all, but she'd explain more later. "For now though, so you feel more comfortable, you can test out how water-tight the things you're making are by placing them in this tank. And sitting in them if you wish. That way you can check where you've gone wrong, if indeed you have at all, and what areas you need to concentrate on to make them lake-worthy."

While I make a mental note of who I'm going to place in teams later on.

Splinters?

"You should be fine," Issy reassured the Gryffindor, walking over to where she stood. Feeling the boat the girl had made she nodded. "It feels quite smooth to me. And I doubt any would get through your clothes anyway."

He took the coracle and neared the water tank, laying the small wooden boat onto the water's surface. He shifted as much of his weight onto his hands into the coracle, keeping in that position for as long as he can muster. So far there werent any leaks springing about that he can see or feel.

Besides he had plenty of time to practice. She gave him a smile as she walked off.

Several of the students were taking advantage of the tank Issy had provided for them, which was pleasing to see. And so far none of them had sunk. Which was even better. Although Kurumi looked a little nervous moving away from the edge. "You all right, Miss Hollingberry?" she called, nodding at her and hoping for some kind of thumbs up.

He watched the Professor demo how to create the paddle. It looked simple enough for him, as the wand stroke and concept was pretty similar to making a plank he had to make for his OWLs.

Drawing the coracle out of the water tank first, he set it aside and took the extra toothpick and lay it on the ground. Staring at the toothpick he visualized a paddle (not a plank) then with a the horizontal line and a loop, he uttered "Talea". The toothpick grew longer and thicker, with one end flattening out into a squarish paddle. Picking it up, he examined it for a few seconds then approached the water tank, pulling a few strokes against the water. So far its not breaking which is a good thing right?

Sanctuary Abnormal | HuffRavSlythDor | Guard Badger ♥ | Stargater | Awaiting Culling

Right, the lesson was more than half over now, so it was time to move on to the game Isabelle had planned. It was fairly simple really, but she would still need to explain it fully due to the fact it was in the lake. And as she found out, a few of the kids were less than enthusiastic about getting wet. Not that she actually wanted them to, that wasn't part of her plans. But the best way to see if they could master a spell was to use it in the way it was meant to be used - boating on the lake. Or rather boat racing each other on the lake. As they were about to find out.

"Okay everyone, time to get to the part of the lesson that I hope will be fun." Not that the rest of it hadn't been. She hoped. "The game on the lake. I'm going to split you into two teams, evenly and not divided by house either, and each team has a pole with eight ribbons on, as you can see," Issy gestured out into the lake. The ribbons were blowing in the breeze, waiting to be plucked off their cross pole and brought back to land. "The object of the game, or race essentially, is that each member of your team has to transfigure a coracle before they set off. They then have to paddle up to the pole, remove a ribbon, go around the pole and paddle back, tagging the next member of their team to go. Who will then repeat the process." Isabelle looked around at the faces, hoping she was being clear enough.

"After each lap I will revert your coracle back to a stick so you'll have to transfigure it again on your next go. Each person has to go around twice, even when there are no ribbons left, you still need to do a lap, but you are only allowed to grab ONE RIBBON EACH. So either on your first lap or your second, but not on both. The team that completes it first will be the winners, and will get an extra five points per person. Does anyone have any questions?"

OOC: Basically I hope the IC instuctions make sense as to what your characters need to do, but as for you OOC, please make sure you also do the following
SPOILER!!: OOC INSTRUCTIONS
  • Look for your name in the first post as that will tell you which team you are on, and who your team mates are.
  • Please wear the avvie provided for the duration of this game, so everyone else can see at a glance which team you are in.
  • When making a post please put the number of ribbons that are left in the subject bar of your post (deducting 1 if you are grabbing one in that post). eg... "6 ribbons left" - so the next RPer from your team knows how many there are.
  • Please also say which lap you are on in the subject line - "Lap 1, now 4 ribbons left" for example. So *i* know where we are in the game and can update the first post with how many laps your character has done, and the next poster from your team knows how ribbons still need collecting.
  • Your part of the course (the two laps for your character) has to be done in at least two RP posts, one per lap. You can do more depending on how much time you have to RP and how you wish to do it. But they need to really be as descriptive as possible, and include you transfiguring the coracle, paddling out, getting the ribbon, coming back and tagging the next person.
  • Do not RP for anyone else. When you change over just say you tagged someone, please don't say who because you never know who will want to post next.

There's some good in this world and it's worth fighting for| LOTR|Whovian|Sherlock Fan

Alyssa listened as the Professor gave instructions on what they had to do for the game. Change the stick into a Coracle and then row out, grab a ribbon and return back.

Quickly placing a stick on the ground, Alyssa concentrated on the design of the Coraclr and taking out her wand she pointed it downward and made a full circle while saying, "Vegrand-IS Nav-IS". She held her breath and watched and hoped that the spell worked. Slowly but surely, the stick began to transform and soon she had a Coracle right in front of her.

Picking it up and grabbing her paddle, Alyssa ran into the lake, placed the coracle into it before clambering over the side and sitting inside it. She held her breath waiting to see whether the Coracle would sink but when it didn't, she picked up her paddle and placed it in front of her and started paddling in a figure 8 sweeping motion.

It was hard steering towards the flag pole while keeping the Coracle moving in a straight line towards it but Alyssa paddled as hard as she could until she reached the flag pole. Standing up slowly, she reached out and grabbed a ribbon, before quickly sitting down.

She picked up her paddle and began maneuvering the Coracle around the pole which was really hard to do as it wobbled back and forth, but once she was around it, she quickly steered her Coracle in a straight line back to the lake edge where her team mates were and tagged the next person.

Pointing her wand at the toothpick, she spoke,"VegrandIS..NavIS.." Nothing. She was shaking from excitement. Oh the movement of the wand, she always forgets them.

Straightening and taking a deep breath, "VegrandIS..NavIS." With a circular movement. The stick's formed a coracle but Cassia thought that it took forever! She took her small boat and was inside it starting paddling as the movement resembles drawing the shape of number eight.

It was hard ,controlling the coracle. Sweat started to form on her forehead trickling down on her face. Her nick too was sweating. That's what happens when she gets tensed.
After her arms became sore, she finally reached the pole. She took a deep breath and concentrated on the closest ribbon to her. Don't mess up Cassia, she ordered herself. She was not going to make her team lose because of her.

As she was beside the pole she stretched her hand out reaching for the ribbon, her eyes never leaving it. The ribbon brushed the tips of her forefinger. She leaned closer making sure she want fall down in the water. She closed her hand around the ribbon and snatched it.

She grinned happily but also reminding herself that she still has to get back safely. Stuffing the ribbon in her pocket. She started paddling back. She was panting and her arms were sore. She was concentrating the hardest she could . Locking her eyes on where she should get to.

Cassia was feeling that this was the hardest and the longest trip she ever made. And finally arriving she jumped out of the coracle. She wanted to get her breath but she tagged the first student she saw and was on her knees gaining her strength.

Extra points.

Those were really the only two words Sierra needed to hear, and she was OFF! Well, not off into the water. Not yet. Just off and scurrying around trying to get ready to transfigure her boat. Whatever the thing was called.

Seeing as this was a race, Sierra quickly gathered all the materials she'd need to transfigure the boat and paddles. She flicked out her wand then did a quick mental review of the steps needed to put all this together. Right. She thought she had it. Only time would tell, though, seeing as she hadn't even done anything yet.

Sierra pointed her wand downward then did a full circle around the materials. "Vegrandis Navis!" she exclaimed. She'd already succeeded with this earlier in the class, so just as she expected, things began to happen without any errors. The materials began to curl around and join together, making Sierra antsy in an urge to hurry things along. There were more curls and a few seals, until finally, the little boat was created.

Sierra eyed it, daring it to fail her out on the water. Now...paddles. She needed paddles. Picking up everything that she needed, Sierra quickly headed to the water and plopped the little boat inside. Well, it didn't crack and sink, so that was a good sign. She put a foot in it and pressed down, testing what it would hold. When everything seemed all well and fine, she hurried down into it and position her paddles into the water.

Using all the arm strength she had, Sierra paddled in the direction of the ribbons, eyeing them all the way. Ambition was one of her biggest traits, and since this was more or less a competition, of course she wanted to win. Finally, she reached the ribbons, and stretching upward, she untied one of them then got back into position.

Steering the boat around the pole, she returned to where she'd come from and tagged the next person. Once she was out of the boat, she looked around, waiting to see who would go next.

OOC: Sorry for editing. FireboltAvis88 posted being on Team 1 instead of Team 2, so I thought I was the first to post on Team 2.

Elliot listened to Profesor Magnus, her worst fears realized...she was going into the murky water. Oh no, she wasn't going to like this at all...and she was going to be LOUSY and TERRIBLE...and lose it ALL for her poor team...team one.

The pouty blonde watched as a girl from her team took off...a firstie. She did well! Elliot was quite surprised...okay, Elliot, if a little first year can do it, so can you! Don't be a pansy! she scolded herself. She wondered who would go next, for Elliot was not ready...no, she needed to mentally prepare herself...

And she was tagged.

Elliot wanted to freak out, but instead, she whipped out her wand, concentrated on the task at hand, and tried to push our her fear of the little boat. And the water. And drowning...oh noooo!

She grabbed a toothpick and quickly put down. She brandished her wand, doing the circular motion, and cried, "Vegrand-is Nav-is!" with a lot of UUMMPHH into it. Maybe a bit too enthusiastically. Whatever, the toothpick had turned into the boat/coracle thing!

YES.

She jumped quickly into the boat, grabbing the paddle, and began to make her way as fast as she could to the ribbon thingy. THe boat kept swaaaaying this way, and swaaaaaying that way. IT made Elliot NERVOUS. But she bit her lip and tried to be brave. Though brave TOTALLY wasn't in her job description. nope.

She got to the post where all these pretty ribbons were dangling. She got on her knees, holding her breathe as the boat tilted a little, and reached up. She felt the ribbon rub against her fingers. She SNATCHED IT! and pulled it off.

SUCCESS.

Elliot was beside herself...she hadn't failed! She had done fine! She began to paddle, faster this time, with more confidence than before...she was fine! She was almost to the shore...she was about to lunge from the boat...she leapt from it...BAM! She had jumped a bit early, and her landed, on her bum, in the water. She yelped, jumped up, and ran to the shore where her team was standing.

Water trickling off her wet clothes, she tagged the next person.

And she silently cursed herself. Now she was all wet. It was gross. AND she was out of breathe...equally displeasing. Elliot sighed. It had, indeed, been an interesting lesson.

And she still had another lap to do. Oh boy.

Kurumi had some how managed to get herself out of the tank AND transfigure a proper paddle just in time for Professor Magnus to move things along. Not that the Gryffindor was feeling especially confident with this whole rowing thing. The spells, well, she could manage those alright. It was the physical rowing that was going to prove rather interesting.

As Professor Magnus explained the activity, Kurumi nodded her head. Besides grabbing ribbons, Kurumi would have never guessed the activity. When the teams were listed, Kurumi smiled and made her way over to Daichi to flash him a quick wink. Everything was going to be just fine.

Watching the Slytherin girl step up first, Kurumi practice the wand movement and muttered the incantation what must have been two dozen times. "Go Cassia!" Kurumi cheered, taking a moment from her nervous speaking before going back to practicing the incantation. Next a Ravenclaw was up which meant Kurumi had more time to practice and butcher the incantation. "Great job Elliot!"

When the girl came back, and with a ribbon even!, Kurumi moved up in the line of waiting teammates and tagged her hand. Here goes nothing!

Once Professor Magnus had reverted coracle, Kurumi whipped her wand out so quickly that she nearly let go of it completely. Oops. Tracing a full circle over the toothpick Kurumi took a deep breath and spoke. "Begrandis Nadis." OH FOR THE LOVE OF MERLIN! Blushing furiously now that, well, EVERYONE had now heard her accent come through, Kurumi repeated the movement and tried again. "Vegrandis Navis..."

This time the spell was a success and a coracle was transfigured in front of her. Thankfully. Pushing it into the water, Kurumi stumbled as she climbed it and nearly toppled over sideways before she found enough balance to be able to sit down and grab the paddle. Yeah, Kurumi Hollingberry looked ridiculous as it was clear she had never paddled a day in her life. Zigging and zagging her way towards the pole, Kurumi decided to just not grab a ribbon this time because 1) she needed to get used to paddling and 2) she was waaaaaaay too far away to even try.

So, there she was, sixth year Gryffindor prefect zigging and zagging her way around the pole and a little off course. She eventually found some sort of a rhythm and ended up in something that COULD have been called a straight line for the last ten yards or so of her paddling. It wasn't much, but it was much better than when she had started.

Climbing out of the coracle, Kurumi rushed back to her team and tagged the next person.

Merlin’s beard! So they were starting the game. EEP! Ella was quite nervous, mostly cause points were at stake and she knew how tight the race for the house cup was at the moment. She got her wand out and ready and focused on her teammates, some who were already in line to head into the water. Before she knew it, they were going. Okay. Time to focus. "Come on team one! You can do it!" She cheered, hoping to win.

When she was tagged, the second year raced forward and pointed her wand at the toothpick, eyes narrowed in concentration. She blanked for a terrifying moment, blinking several times in panic. NOOO! She knew this! She totally knew this. Shaking her head in frustration, the incantation finally came to her. Right. She could do this! She pointed at the stick thinga-majigger and made the full circle motion. "Vergrand-IS Nav-IS!"

O__O

It worked! IT WORKED! Inner Flailing Time! Though she didn’t have time to waste and within seconds was in the circular boat and in the water, paddle in hand.

Getting to the pole with the ribbons was like…horrible. Ella was small, like really small for a second year and that meant she had ZERO muscles. Okay, not true exactly. Swinging around the beater’s bat had helped slightly but still, paddling was exhausting work. Plus the boat was extremely hard to steer! How did people ride these things around all the time! It was crazy. Tongue poking out, she concentrated as she got closer and closer to the ribbons. She was definitely going to get one!

When she did finally get to the pole, she eye balled that there were six ribbons left. BUT NOT FOR LONGGG! Ella carefully…like REALLY carefully reached up, fingertips JUST touching the ribbon closest to her boat. She bit her lip, hoping against hope that she didn’t fall into the water, and reached higher. Just. A. Bit. More. And…

"Gotcha!" She cried triumphantly, placing the ribbon in her lap. Ugh. But now she had to paddle ALL the way back to the land. Mehhh. Okay, back to beast mode!

Once she did get back, Ella climbed out of the Coracle more like fell out and ran towards the next teammate. "Go!" She called cheerfully before collapsing on to the ground. And she still had a lap left to do! SHEESH.

Nerida smiled onto the game. She had wondered what the game would be. It sounded easy to do, hopefully she could do the spell right and row right. Change the stick into a coracle, row out and grab a ribbon, come back and tag the next person's hand.

Quickly placing a stick on the ground, Nerida concentrated on the Coracle. Taking out her wand she pointed it downward and made a full circle while saying, "Vegrand-IS Nav-IS". She bit her bottom lip and watched, did the spell work? Soon after the spell was said, the stick began to transform and soon there was a Coracle right in front of her.

Picking it up and grabbing her paddle, Nerida ran to the lake. She placed the coracle into the lake before climbing in. She held her breath would the coracle sink, had she did it right? Luckily it didn't sink, s he picked up her paddle and placed it in front of her and started paddling in a figure eight sweeping motion, the technique the Professor told them to use. It was hard steering towards the flag pole while keeping the Coracle moving in a straight line towards it. Nerida had paddled as hard as she could until she reached the flag pole which was really hard. Keeping it straight, paddling in a figure eight sweeping motion instead of rowing back and forth. Slowly standing up , she reached up and grabbed a ribbon, before quickly sitting back down.

She picked up her paddle and began turning the Coracle around the pole which was easier said than done. Once she was around it, she quickly steered her Coracle into a straight line back to the lake edge where the rest of team two was waiting. Tagging the next person as she got out.

Nigel was sure he could do this even if he was only a first year. He hoped to make all the practice he did before pay off. So when it was his turn he pointed his wand at the stick, made the full circle motion, and yelled "Vegrandis Navis".

It went just as it did when he was practicing. He now had a perfect boat. He forgot the name to it but who really cares as long as it floats. He was glad he kept his paddle close to him in case it actually worked because he did not want to run back and go get a paddle wasting every bodies time.

He quickly got into his boat, staring using his paddle, and hoping he was doing this rowing thing right. Nigel did not like the way the boat never went the way he wanted it to go. But he expected that and tired as hard as he could to get to the thing that holds the ribbons.

After a few minutes of horrible paddling, he finally made it to the ribbons and grabbed the ribbon. YES, he got a ribbon, but now he had to finish the lap and paddle back to his teammates.

Once he got back, Nigel climbed as careful as he could out of the boat because he did not want to fall down. Once safely out he ran towards the next teammate and tagged them.

Now that he finished his first lap. He fell down on the ground watching his teammates finished collecting the ribbons and waiting to see when he would have to do his second lap.

Dalliesa | Ab-Bot | Hogwarts Trojan War |

As soon as Nigel tagged her, Louisa jumped from her position leg-crossed on the grass and fumbled with her skirt to get her wand out all-sword-like, only her hands ended up tangled in her wide sleeves and then the hem of her shirt and-- yeah, not very graceful. The wand was out, though, after a second of struggle and Louisa pointed it at the stick closing her eyes and conjuring a clear image of a coracle in her head. Moving her wand in the right circular motion and uttering, "Vegrandis Navis!" Her eyelids cracked open and before her was indeed a nice-looking coracle.

Louisa tucked her wand back in and half-dragged half-carried it toward the lake, plopping it onto the water before carefully and rather clumsily getting inside, the coracle swaying dangerously from left to right and Louisa's eyes grew wide as she spread out her hands, one of them holding the paddle, and waited for it to steady itself. When she was sure the Giant Squid wouldn't have her body as a snack today, she started paddling toward their team's pole. The paddle hitting the coracle without making her go further that much, she frowned down at it and straightened herself while still sitting on her knees. Shifting the paddle to another corner and positioning her hands in a different way, the Ravenclaw started paddling again... this time without hitting the coracle. The pole started inching closer and closer as Louisa felt her muscles moving and tensing because of this rare activity that the bookworm only did in classes and when points were awarded for. Heh.

As she reached the pole, she grabbed onto it untying tone of the left ribbons and tossing it into the coracle. Four ribbons left. Phew. She picked up the paddle again and started stirring the old boat around the pole to head back to the shore where the rest of her teams were waiting. If paddling out was tricky, then stirring the boat with the paddle was super tricky. Pushing against the water by the paddle in a flat straight motion did the trick eventually and Louisa went back to paddling from each side of the coracle to move herself forward. Her chest and arms starting to throb slightly from the exercise.

As soon as she made it to the ground, she tucked the paddle under one arm, took her ribbon from the coracle's floor and hopped out of the boat almost falling face-first. But she stretched her hand out half-tagging half-supporting herself on the next person.

Alyssa took out her wand and pointing it down at the stick on the ground, waved a full circle over it and said,"Vegrand-IS Nav-Is" and watched as the Coracle took shape. She knew that she couldn't collect any more flags but she still had to finish her second lap, so she picked up the Coracle, pushed it into the lake and then dove into it before quickly sitting up.

Placing her paddle in front of her, she paddled in fiigure 8s slowly moving the Coracle towards the flag pole. This time since she didn't need to grab a flag, she maneuvered the Coracle around the pole while trying at the same time not to tip over. Once she rounded the pole, she paddled as hard as she could, remembering to keep the paddle moving in a figure 8 formation in front of the boat. She paddled the Coracle to her team mates waiting on the shoreline.

Once her Coracle hit the shoreline, she quickly climbed out and tagged her next team member, before falling flat on the grass. This was definitely tiring work.

Arts TRANSPONSTER!

COOL! They were sailing on the lake, but not getting IN it. Sophie had not liked the experience they had last term and she liked this sailing thing much better! She bounced a little as professor Magnus gave the instructions and rushed toward her teammates.

Not paying much attention to who her team was, the Hufflepuff practiced the spell over and over in her head, until the game started. A little Slytherin girl went first. "Good job, Slythie!" She didn't know the little girl, but she could cheer nonetheless! "You're doing great!!" When the snake came back with a ribbon, Sophie smiled and watched as the next person started working. Oh... Elliot. Hmph. The mean Ravenclaw would get NO cheers from Sophie. Nope. The second year crossed her arms and watched silently as the evil eagle got the ribbon and went back to land. She lowered her head and giggled silently as Elliot fell on the water right after getting back. Muehehehehe!

Gryffindor prefect time. Wow, their team had people from all houses! Cool! If ONLY all of them were nice people... Sophie shook her head and watched closely as the older girl had a lot of trouble getting to the pole. "Come ooon, you can do it, Gryffindor prefect!!" Why didn't Sophie know her name again? Hollingberry, wasn't it? But calling the girl by her last name sounded too formal. Anyway, the lion managed to get back and now it was Ella's turn! "YAAAAY, GO ELLAAAA!!" Sophie FLAILED even before Ella got in the coracle. She cheered the whoooole time and jumped up and down as her bestie came back and tagged her.

It was Sophie's turn now! AWESOME! Quickly pointing her wand at the stick thingy, the badger made the circular movement above it. "Vegrandis Navis!" BEAM! The second year was already smiling from ear to ear when the toothpick started moving by itself, turning into A CORACLE! BEEEAM!

She pushed it to the lake and stared at it for a few moments. Oh... she wasn't sure if it was safe anymore... what if she fell off and sank across a grindylow or something? MERLIN! Taking a deep breath, Sophie slowly got in the coracle and bounced slightly to make sure it wouldn't sink. Well, it felt alright for now... she grabbed the paddle and looked straight at the pole with the ribbons.

It was time! She started rowing away, never taking her eyes from the pole. The coracle wiggled a bit, but Sophie tried her best to keep balance. All she had to do for now was get to the pole! She'd be fine! Row, row, row your coracle. THE POLE! Sophie got a hold of it with her right hand, putting the paddle down, she lifted herself up a little and reached out for a ribbon, still holding on tightly to the pole. There! "Yay!" She grinned, sitting back down and gently pushing herself away from the pole. After placing the ribbon on her lap, she started paddling again, going around the pole with the pretty ribbons and going back to land!

It seemed like going back was faster than sailing to the pole! She checked to see if the ribbon was still on her lap every now and again and tossed the paddle on the ground when the coracle hit the edge of the lake. Grabbing the ribbon, she jumped out of the cool looking boat and ran to tag someone else.

HOLISTIC ACTRESS {X O} EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED

Mika was nervous - very nervous. She hadn't really done the spell well earlier maybe because she hadn't said it aloud? Moving her wand with a circle and a line she concentrated on the stick in front of her.

It wiggled, creaked, and cracked open like a pea pod that was over ripe.

That wasn't big enough.

The first year tried again moving her wand once more and BAM right in front of her resting on the lake's edge was a coracle! She'd DONE it! She felt amazing. Stepping in she tried to paddle out to the pole. When she got there she reached out her little arms, they didn't reach. Standing up the water splashed her legs she grabbed onto the ribbon squealed happily and pulled. It landed half on her head and half in the water but she was good she had a hold of it and it was IN the coracle and with her.

Paddling back as quickly as she could was excited happy even to be safe on land the moment her feet touched the ground.

Hogwarts RPG Name:
Silvia Talbot
Third Year
Default Team 1; Lap 1; 2 Ribbons left

SPOILER!!: catch up
It took several more minutes, but with another Vegrandis Navis, Silvia had finally managed to produce a decent coracle. It was slightly smaller than the professors, but being tiny, it should work for her. Walking over to the tank, she set the coracle inside and waited, keeping a hand on it so it didn’t float away. Luckily it was floating. To be extra sure she leaned over and put a tiny amount of weight on it, but it seemed to be fine. Good. Taking the coracle out of the tank she set it next to her and pulled out another stick. “Ta-lea,” she said. This second spell did not take as many tries before she managed to produce a paddle.

Now that she had finally managed to perform both spells, Silvia looked up as Professor Magnus gave them their next instructions.

Silvia joined her team, wishing that they could just use the coracles they already transfigured. While she waited for her turn, she muttered the incantation to herself over and over, to make sure she didn’t forget it. Finally she was at the front of her group and one of her teammates was rowing right toward her. Silvia stretched her hand out until she felt the tap, then placed one of the sticks on the ground in front of her. Taking a deep breath, she concentrated hard on the image of a coracle, waved her wand in a circular motion, and said “Vegrandis Navis!” Slowly, the stick curled around and expanded, until it transformed completely. Phew! She had been worried that it wouldn’t work and she would slow her team down. She set the coracle in the lake, and it floated. She reached for a paddle and then slowly climbed inside, careful not to tip it over and plunge into the lake.

Once inside, Silvia began to paddle towards the pole. It was difficult at first; she had never rowed any kind of boat before. The going was very slow at first and she had trouble keeping the coracle moving straight. It occasionally veered to the side and she had to do her best to get it back on its path. But about halfway to the pole she started to get a feel for how to row and her speed increased slightly.

Slowly but surely, she finally came up to the pole. Carefully, Silvia leaned over while trying to keep the coracle balanced, and caught a ribbon in the tips of her fingers. She tugged gently and the ribbon came loose from the pole. She set it in her lap and began to paddle once more. With a bit of effort, she managed to maneuver her coracle around the pole and started on the trip back to shore. Her arms were already very tired from the paddling, and her speed eventually began to slow. But after what felt like a long time, she reached the shore, and stretched her hand out to tag her next teammate.

Mika was now safe on shore and in tagging reach of her next teamate. She jumped up and down and nearly tackled them as she tagged them. THERE there she was tag-free-and-safe. And SHE DIDN'T have to go to the pole right now...later but not now.

Tagging was good except when it was on buildings.

...and now it seemed to be her turned again.

Sierra quickly flicked her wand back into position and ran to the disassembled materials that used to be a little boat. By now, she'd done the spell do many times and seen it so much that she was more than confident she could do it. She spared a single second to look around and check the progress of the other team. They looked to be about neck and neck, which still wasn't good enough for Sierra.

TEAM TWO NEEDED TO WIN.

Sierra pointed her wand downward then made a full circle over the materials. "Vegrandis Navis!" she exclaimed. The materials quickly began to move about until they'd finally reformed into a little boat. Sierra snatched up the boat and paddles and lowered the boat into the water.

Stepping in, Sierra quickly began to paddle out. She reached the ribbons fairly quickly, yet didn't grab one since she was on her second lap. Circling around the pole, Sierra quickly headed back to the rest of team two. All too soon, she'd tagged the next person in line and was back on solid ground.

It was her time again? She hadn't even realized. Well, she had, honestly she had.

"Ta-lea" she pointed her wand at the little needle and there infront of her a needle-like-stick had transfigured into a paddle. It was beautiful, beautiful, pure magic.

Giggle.

She looked around. "GO TEAM ONE GO WE CAN DO THIS" she had tagged someone. So WHO was going to go? Eh. Someone GO go GO!
