Where The Practice Pitch
(look for the thread titled 'lesson')
Who Can Attend First Years and those who wish to brush up on their basic flying skills
What to Bring School brooms will be provided for all students to use
Any First Year who brings their own broom will lose 15 house points for breaking the long-standing school rule about First Years not being allowed brooms.
Arguing with Professor Vindictus regarding this rule will result in an automatic detention and possibly losing more points.
Professor Vindictus was the first to arrive at the lesson and had the brooms set out in two perfectly straight lines on the Practice Pitch. He stood between the two broom rows and waited patiently for the students to arrive.

"So you figured out the whole leaning forward part, but it works sort of in the same way. If you lean down too fast and too far, you'll bolt forward. Take things slow at first until you get the hang of things," she suggested. "That's my best advice, at least."
Theodore stared helplessly at the Prefect that had stopped by to help him. He tried to relax himself by breathing slowly, and allowing his body to stop going rigid all of the time. "Okay." He very slowly returned to a straight position after the leaning. And yes, he was still. But this still didn't accomplish learning how to ride a broom.
He had currently only mastered sitting on a broom.
"Th-thank you." He looked in front of him, then back to the Prefect. "Are there broomsticks available with handle bars?" Handle bars would be MUCH more preferred.

John flew slower beside the kid, he wasn't going to let him fall. "Try it, don't go too fast." he said.
This totally reminded him of the time, he taught his 'sister' how to fly for the first time, two years ago.
Okay. Cool. This was just like learning to drive a car. Which conveniently, Theodore couldn't do either. He nodded to the older boy who was being ever so kind as to helping him out.
"Right." Theo swerved the broom slowly to the left and the broom maneuvered itself to the right as he wanted it to. "ARHGHHGF."
There was nothing going wrong. He was just scared, okay?

Hannah was sure that the professor as well as all of the other students were probably ready for this class to be over so they wouldn't have to deal with her anymore. She almost didn't want to fly anymore because of the whole everything happens in three's thing. She was already on strike 2 and with her luck something else would happen before she was able to land safely on the ground.
She made up her mind that she was really taking it slow this time. She made a couple of loops at a nice and steady pace. She steered clear of all students and trees, and hopefully bugs as well. She looked around again to see if anybody looked like they needed any help, but she doubted anyone would want any help from her after all that has happened.
She decided to simply speed up and slow down in a straight shot. No more going fast for fear another bug would make themselves at home in her mouth. Just the thought made her stomach roll. Deciding it wouldn't be good for anyone to go there again she focusing solely on flying. She went back and forth and waited anxiously for the whistle to signal that the end of the lesson was here.
Sierra made a graceful landing right beside the little Ravenclaw girl. She'd down this a million and one times--landing, that is--so again this was effortless for her. "You need some help?" she asked with a smirk. Although, it was really quite obvious that the girl did. She waited, perched with her broom ready to take off again, as she waited for the little girl to answer.
GLARE AT THE BROOM.
Blue hopped up, brushing off some muck on her knees. She turned her attention to the girl. "Yes..." Obviously. Sniffle. First things first, she needed to catch her broom. Then she needed to learn how to fly said broom. This girl was happy to help? Well good luck missy because this firstie NEEDED A LOT OF IT.

John chuckled, the kid steered left however the broom went the opposite direction.
Okay new plan. The seventh year thought to himself.
"okay, steer in the direction you want and I'll guide you with my broom" John suggested, with a smile.
John was a pretty good flier, no he never plays Quidditch mostly because he personally didn't fancy the sport. But enjoyed flying, which inneditably became on his favorite hobbies.
"Don't look down." John suggested so the kid won't feel so terrified of being in the sky.

Was it just him or were there more bugs and flying things such then one usually encountered on a typical day flying around? Certainly seemed that way especially with a butterfly making its way around Had Professor Vindictus jinxed them with his speech before they took off? Or was it all part of his plan for class to see how they might react to the situation?
Who knew...
Doing his best to breath through his nose and not his mouth to avoid them as much as he could, Gideon took off across the sky above the pitch, going straight for several feet before pulling his broom handle to the left and towards himself. A nice and simple turn for now and then another when in the opposite direction once he was out of the first one. The sixth year then guided him and the broom straight ahead once more before repeating the cycle. He wasn't about to make it hard on himself in the beginning and be exhausted before they got too far.
Silvia began to pick up speed as she zig-zagged around the pitch, doing her best to avoid clashing into anything or anyone. She was much higher in the air now, and was reveling in the feeling. She entered a small dive, quickly descending a few yards before pulling up and quickly rising again. Then suddenly, Smack! a bug had hit her in the cheek, just below the eye. Silvia brought her broom to a halt. Taking one hand off the broom, she reached up to brush her cheek, but of course the bug was no longer there. At least she remembered to keep her mouth closed while flying. She hated bugs.
The Ravenclaw pressed forward again, this time going at a slower pace so she could take in her surroundings. Most of the students seemed to be doing alright, although there were a few first years who were struggling, though that was to be expected. She had already circled the pitch numerous times, so what should she practice next?

Oichi smiled at Taylor's words of encouragement and offer, "I would love to learn how to fly from you.". She knew it would not be for a while before she would be doing flips and zigzags around the pitch. Her mouth dropped as she watched Taylor circle the pitch. She knew that any stunt on a broom took speed to accomplished if you did not want to fall from the sky. That gave Oichi an idea. She pushed toward on her broom and directed it into over drive, just not quite as fast as Taylor. She whizzed by Taylor and called aloud, "HEY TAYLOR, WANNA RACE?". Oichi had finally learned the tricks and was handling her broom well, even with the speed.
Tay slowed down when she heard the girl. She sat up and looked over, "Yeah, sounds good." Taylor laughed and smiled. "Racing is always fun and it is good practice." Tay grinned at the girl. "Go ahead and get a head start." Taylor was debating whether to do her fastest or let the little girl win.... Tay didnt know which the girl preferred. She didnt care either way. Taylor watched the girl before spiraling upwards then doing a nose dive directly down, pulling up at the last second. Tay laughed and smiled. Her eyes were on the girl whom she couldnt recall if she ever caught the name or not.
Silvia decided that she should probably get some landing practice. She flew to an area where there weren't too many students so she wouldn't have to concentrate on both avoiding a collision and landing at the same time. She tipped the broom and began to zoom downward. She was going too fast. Silvia quickly tugged up on her broom slightly to slow down; she wasn't ready for such a fast landing yet. But still she ended up hitting the ground a little too hard for comfort, and almost lost her balance as she ran out the rest of her momentum. She definitely needed more practice, and this time she needed to go for a slower landing until she got the hang of it. Looking up, she watched the other students flying above her. Then she pushed off the ground and zoomed back up into the air for another try.

The sixth year had gone through about 4 cycles of the pattern he had started out on doing and wound up making a circuit around the pitch. It was then when he grew bored and slowed to a hover to see about helping anyone out. AT least that would give himself to do and make things interesting while being a good fellow student. A win-win scenario.
However from the height he was at, there didn't seem to be anyone who needed assistance. And then it hit them at the less-experienced probably didn't venture up as high as he currently was at the moment. A few feet higher then he had been when he had started he noticed if he could completely go by marks on the surroundings he found himself looking at. Time to get a bit lower and closer to his fellow students.
Gideon leaned forward over the handle of his broom, knowing that should help him move into the direction he wanted...down. Except, he must of leaned a little too forward, or gravity worked against him or a little bit of both and the prefect found himself moving a bit too fast for his taste. He worked his best to slow down, nearly colliding with another flyer. "Sorry..."

Ella had escaped the bird at last! She was excited as she looked over her shoulder behind her where the bird sat happily on a branch, eating the gummy worm. But then O__O Woah! Someone had nearly flew into her. "Oh my!" She gasped, stopping short on her broom. "That was close." She said to the older boy, her eyes wide.

Thankfully Gideon had reacted quick enough in pulling back on the broom handle to stop beforehand, as had his would-by target it seemed. Gaining control of his senses as he hoever there are his broom catching his breath, he registered the young girl who for she was...a Hufflepuff underclassman. "Are ye alright?" he asked her, hoping he hadn't scared the daylights out of her by his near-collision. That would be bad and something he surely wouldn't have wanted to do, especially to a younger student. He knew through Kurumi just how much flying can frighten someone.
Back up in the air, Silvia circled the area once before making another dive downward. This time a bit more slowly and better in control. Carefully she pulled up on the broom as she neared the ground and stretched out her legs. She managed to make a much smoother landing than last time. That's much better, she thought to herself. Kicking off the ground, she almost immediately was hit by another bug, this time on the forehead. What was with all the bugs today? Reaching about sixty or seventy feet in the air, Silvia sped up as fast as she felt comfortable with, changing direction every now and then as she flew around. At least the bugs weren't as bad as the flying squirrels from last year. That thought made her wonder; what crazy animal or stunt was the professor going to set on them this year?

Ella was breathing heavy but other than that, she seemed to be okay. Was the older boy okay too? He looked a little surprised but otherwise good to go. When he asked if she was alright, she nodded. "I-I think I am. I'm not hurt or anything, just surprised. I thought you were that-that bird who tried to kill me." But nope, it wasn't the bird, just an older boy on a broom. That was much better in her opinion. "Are you alright? You didn't get hurt did you?" Cause that wouldn't be good. Ella hated to see people hurt. "Did you lose control of your broom?" She asked curiously. Or maybe his broom was defective. Could that happen?! She eyed her own broom suspiciously just in case.

It was going fine so far.
The little girl was enjoying flying and, more than enjoying, she had already started to think that she was going to awesome soon if she kept practicing like that. Like she was the best at everything, she was going to be best at flying, an of course, quidditch as well.
Thinking that she looked awesome on the broom as well, Lea speeded up her broom and enjoyed flying even more. Heights were not bothering her so she was fine. She could even fly to the sun but since there was this possibility that Professor Vindictus might consider that a problem, she decided not to.
Remaining above others anyway, she flied in circles.

Oblivious to the traumatic experiences that his friends, Blue and Theo, were having, West was just chillaxing with this butterfly on his nose and staring at it cross eyed. He was, on his broom, about as high as he could possibly be without breaking some unsaid rules.
It was brushing its wings together and making clicking sounds!
"Priestess of Hera, Imma gonna fly some more now." Anddd..... maybe.... protein? He stretched his tongue out and tried to reach it, but gave up since his tongue couldn't reach. WELL the butterfly could just stay there then.
He launched into half of a barrel roll and commenced flying around upside down.
The butterfly was still on his nose.
Where did those prefects go?

As Zhenya went higher and higher into the air, she felt Rosie slip a little, until out came her wings and she, herself, pushed off her broom and went back to the owlery. Zhenya copped a face of her angry Owl's wing, and giggled to herself. She would have to make it up to her some how, she knew, but that was fun. The thing had scared her, landing on her head AND biting her finger.
She wasn't sure what to do next. She wanted the snitch to be released or something, but only to see how hard it was for the seekers to find it.
She leaned forward and flew as fast as she could towards a tree, right towards it. Before she would crash, she turned to the side and pulled out of her fast fly. She was smiling to herself, it was fun. She never really got to do much of that stuff on the pitch.

As Kennedy tried swatting at the butterfly his eyes blinked fast to keep the gnats that had collided with his face from his eyes. One of them managed to make contact with his eye ball and...it was painful. He blinked his left eye faster, trying to stop it from watering. Gnats in eyes HURT.
Suddenly, the hand that had been holding on the broom handle slipped causing his body to fall forward. He was half blind so he totally freaked out. Kennedy scrambled to get a good hold on the handle. When he finally did his eyes widened. How'd he get so close to the ground? Oh yeah, when began falling DOWN! He pulled the broom handle toward him, making a sharp upward move.
That was a close one.
Kennedy looked at his surroundings, still half blind, searching for the kid. He better not be eating his butterfly.

Smiling at the thought, the little lioness kicked off the ground and finally started to fly. Fly fly fly. Her dark hair waved graciously after her with the wind and the girl seemed very content with flying.
It felt so good.
Flying away from others a bit, she closed her eyes for a moment or so, only listening to the wind.
But when she opened her eyes, the sight her dark brown eyes caught made her smirk. Oooh...was not that the boy she had seen at the train? The girl's eyes had an evil twinkle. Speeding up, she flew towards the boy and slowed down above him.

Vickers was definitely gripping the broom shaft tightly. One can say it was out of nerves, but it also looked liked he was strangling the broom from that scare it just gave him.
Head turned sharply at the new voice beside him. Oh hey its the Candy Kid. "Uh... I'm not talking to anybo-- " he started then stopped mid-sentence. Eyes goes back to the hands with the broom strangling. "Oh... " he realized, then eased his grip around the shaft "This broom... has a peculiar sense of humor."
And he doesnt find it funny. Not.one.bit.

Vindictus watched the antics in the sky with much amusement as he continued to snack on his cookies, a gift from Kurumi. He had to do something to make the lesson challenging, but each idea that floated through his head would result in the hospital wing overflowing with casualties and Tatertot exploding when he found out.

Ella nodded, looking around nervously before turning her attention back to the older boy. "Yes. I don't know why, it just started pecking my broom! And then it flew at my face!" Which was just plain rude, in Ella's opinion. "Birds are strange. Well not owls, I like those...but whatever that bird was, it was strange." Yup, twelve year old logic at its best. "Oh, I'm Ella by the way." She added as an after thought.
Ella was happy that the older boy was okay as well AND that he didn't fall off his broom. "Glad you're okay. Try not to go so fast, you don't want to end up as a lawn ornament or something!" Well pitch ornament was probably more correct but Ella thought the older boy would get the picture. With that, she smiled and gripped her broom more firmly than before. "Better be off! It was nice to almost bumping into you." She said sheepishly before flying away.
After Belle got back up, she commanded her broom "UP!" and it flew right to her hand. She got back on it and flew some more. She flew almost out of the boundaries of the class. "Woopsies.." she thought. Then she flew through some butterflies and bugs. She forgot to close her mouth and spit out some bugs. "That is something i will never get used to." she said to herself. It was nice just flying around, she felt at ease. , She remembered hearing about the times the famous harry potter first rode a broom and was automatically put on the quidditch team after catching a remembrall.

She made a slight face of disbelief, although she tried really hard to not let him see it. "Err, no. No brooms with handlebars yet," she said. "That doesn't seem to be your problem, though. I think you just need to learn how to control the broom. Maybe...don't lean forward and pull back quite so fast."

*gasp*wiiiiince*YELLinFRIGHT!*
Vickers gripped the broom shaft with a jerk, causing his broom the lurch backwards and flip bristles up, the hapless Ravenclaw dangling at the lower end. Fearfully he looked down, it was still some ways away and he struggled to try to maintain his grip on the broom.
Having sweaty palms today wasnt helping, nope.
"Lower me!" he commanded the broom through gritted teeth. The broom obliged and lowered the bag of sweat Ravenclaw enough where he could make a safe leap for the grass.
He landed on his feet, relieved that he was on solid ground. He looked up at the broom still suspended upside down in the air. "Faulty broom." he scolded as he point POINTED at it.
Broom must've thought of that as a command. Or perhaps it was its peculiar sense of humor, because the next thing it did, was drop out of the air, and landed on the Bag of Sweat's head.
