The chilly winter weather seemed to have sneakily drifted into the dueling arena, for the rush of cold air hit you as you walk inside. Never fear though, for the Professor put a few beacon braziers around in the corners of the arena to start warming the room up. The warm winter sunlight coming through the large windows will start to help out in a couple of minutes, as it reflects off the stone floor, brightly illuminating the arena in almost a frosty glow. Purple mats lined up perfectly in the middle of the area should be a familiar sight, along with the small trays stationed in front of each to make it easier for note taking, but there is one big difference than any other lesson.
A variety of metal creatures were placed around the room; a few examples being the nundu, dementor, and the snake. Some hovered off the ground, slowly twirling as if there was a draft, while others seemed to follow you around with their eyes. Don't be surprised if a few turn their heads to get a better look at you. They've been enchanted to move on purpose, and while they aren't particularly dangerous or possess qualities that the real deal may have, handling them roughly could make your interactions with them may lead to a rather unsteady path. Yes, that is hissing you hear from the snake, and perhaps a growl or two with a few other interesting noises from the creatures that would come up every now and then, but honestly, they don't bite. Well, they don't bite hard that is.
The professor is currently sitting on the lower portion of one of the stands, one of the stands, wearing particularly interesting pair of goggles on top of her head while a little metal spider curiously moves around on her shoulder. Please come in and take a seat, or use the time before the lesson starts to look at the sculptures.
OOC: Class has officially begun! Please, don't post your character arriving late, or beware the consequences. _____Just jump in with the lesson as if they've been here the whole time.
Elliot nodded at the professor, a fierce look of determination in her eyes. YAAY SNAKES. But two people were currently playing with her snake...that clever girl, Aspen. Elliot eyed her and the boy, as he practically jumped to the sky in fear...she snickered to herself, waiting patiently(which normally doesn't happen, mind you!) until they were done.
I get the SNAAAAKE, I get the SNAAAAKE, she sang gleefully in her mind, not daring to look even remotely pleasant on the outside. NOPE. She took out her notebook and quill, ready for some NOTETAKING! She approached the hissing fiend, smirking to herself. Heehee. fun stuff!
Elliot quickly placed her stuff on the ground right by the snake and swished out her wand. She went behind it, wanting to POKE it with her wand. POKE. The snake quickly turned around, giving Elliot a mean glare. Then, SUDDENLY, Elliot found herself frozen for a few seconds...it was the oddest sensation, being frozen. Elliot didn't like it one bit. As soon as she was completely FREE, she bent down to scribble in her notebook. Ahem...so...basilisks' stares can either kill you, if you stare head on...or freeze you...if it's not head on...what's that word again..OH, petrified. Yep. I remember reading about it... she thought to herself, scribbling furiously everything she could remember.
She wondered what the snake would do if she brought a rooster to class...not that this would be allowed...but still, it would cool to see. She wanted to make a rooster noise...but no...she was ELLIOT MORGANZO, she couldn't! hmm...
"Cocka-doodle-doo.." she whispered softly, hopefully unheard by anyone around her. Hmph. The basilisk didn't seem to do anything, buuuut Elliot wasn't a very convincing rooster, so...yeah.
She then turned to look at the Professor and raised her hand, "Professor Romanos, your spider there probably wouldn't like my snake, would it?" she asked with a grin. Spiders hated basilisks, right? Right! Elliot knew she was right(as always...ahem.)

"Oh, I'm glad." João rolled his eyes. Before he had been manservant of that villager girl Louisa, now he was the clown. Such a reputation and dignity.
He didn't really have a chance, did he? If he refused, he'd be the chicken again. If he accepted... he only hoped nothing would go wrong with the charms and the effects would last only for ten seconds.
"Okay." Just to show he wasn't afraid of the metal things. "Lead the way."
"Now you're agreeable," Aspen noted, moseying and leading the way over to the Grindylow. "Did you give up on me already?" She was thoughtful, as usual, and trying to stay casual - but THIS Odessa was WAY excited to test all these Dark Creatures out. This was experience! This was awesome. She was exxxxxxxxcccccccccited.
Without preamble or hesitation, Aspen reached right out and took a hold of the Grindylow. And the Grindylow took hold of HER. EXCITEMENT and a bit of FEAR and OHHHH crossed the 5th year's face. She accidentally made a squeaky noise when she tried to pull away. Oh oh oh! WASHESEEINGTHIS?
ZOMG what would the DEMENTOR DO? The Nundu? THOSEWERENEXT.

She should have been a stupid 'dork. How come had she ended up in Ravenclaw? Sure she was curious and all that, but when on a scale, her courage overbalanced all the rest easily.
And there, she was touching it again without thinking first. He rolled his eyes to himself and thought of doing something to break the grip, but... why should he? He just watched her calmly from a little distance with hands in pockets--she was the one who wanted first-hand experience, after all--and felt bored a little. Just observing was boring, after all.
"Done?" he asked her after a while. He still couldn't decide on which animal he should be working, and she wasn't doing any favours.

Once the Grindylow let go, Aspen immediately put her other hand on. It latched AGAIN.
!!!!
Apparently, she was alone in her excitement though. 'Cept maybe that other Claw, Elliot, who seemed as jazzed as Aspen about THISREALLYAWESOMEASSIGNMENT. Joao, on the other hand, looked bored.
BORED.
How was that even possible? "Give me your hand." She gave her newly freed one over to him. She'd LIVEN it up for him. Maybe he'd yell in Portuguese again? That was always interesting.

Who would have guessed she would have a blast touching metal metal objects? She was exactly like those Muggles who went to funfairs. Only, her case was cooler because she didn't have to pay anything to have fun. Except maybe for the school expenses in general. Which should be more than ticket prices.
She wasn't cooler, then. Muggles still got it right.
"You're crazy," he muttered, looking at her incredulously. He didn't mean it bad, though. She was just... very unique. Yes. That was the word. "I'll actually study on one. I'll touch them later." Maybe. If he was in the mood.

...
Aspen studied him for every second he studied her. She squinted, again trying to read thoughts. She WOULD learn one day. "You won't."
...
"Bockbockbockbockbock," this time she was definitely calling him chicken. Or challenging him to another game of Mind Chicken. Both. Aspen made subtle little chicken-wing flaps with her elbows.
She flapped her elbows quieeeetly over towards to the Pogrebin. This would be more fun with someone to share in on the fun. Joao was being fun, he was being bothersome. She wanted to jinx him. Aspen reached a hand out towards the Pogrebin, all the while waaaaaaatching Joao. Coming over? Gonna STOP her? Gonna play? Nooooo?

Not able to find her group, Ella pulled out some parchment and her quill and set off for the creepy grindylow that was moving about the floor. She wasn't exactly keen on touching the thing, even if it wasn't real, because it sort of freaked her out a little. Especially the way it appeared to be latching on to the other students who decided to take a closer look. Sigh. But this was the only way to learn, right? And she wanted their performance to be believable so...
Bending down near the grindylow, Ella gave herself a bit of a pep talk. "Alright Ells, this is just for research. You're a total scientist right now so act that way, okay?" And she reached out for the creature hesitantly, startled when it latched on to her hand. O__O Merlin's pants, it was strong! Stronger than she had imagined it would be. And what was this? Apparently it didn't let go for a while...Considering that real grindylows didn't let go at all, that made sense to the second year. It still felt weird though!
When the little thing finally did release her, Ella frowned at it before scribbling down some notes about how it felt and how strong the grip was. Yup, these little guys were nothing to laugh at.

Medea gestured for them to stand up. Up! Up up!
"Ve do have Professor Elwood vith us today," Queue the glance to their Divination Professor. No laughing at her accent! She was working on it, "who vill be helping me vith a special tidbit at the end of the lesson today, but, ve vill get more into that a little later. For now...let's hope she joins us during our morning exercise." Yes? Eh? Nudge nudge...hehe.
If a certain other someone would show up that is. They were all standing up, yes? Almost? No? Oh well. "No yoga for today, though ve vill be stretching a little, as usual. So go ahead and start vith that. Copy me or do vot you vish, but you must be moving somehow." Even if that meant flailing their arms and legs.

Zhenya stood up slowly and prepared herself for the yoga stretches. She really didn't feel like doing it today but it was always good. She was relieved to hear that they weren't going to be doing yoga, though, just stretching. She didn't want to do her own thing so she copied the Professor. She stretched her arms up and felt the spaces along her spine crack as she reached up and up and up.

"So, ve'll be vorking a little bit on your projects today. If you haven't chosen a creature to do your final on, now vould be the perfect oppurtunity to do so. As you can see, there are a variety of metal sculptures in here." She looked at one that hovered above her, the metal spider crawling to the top of her head to look as well. A hinkypunk! She switched to stretching her other arm. "I've taken a look at the sign-up sheet and got around to having at least most of your choices done here. "I did bring a good number of books here for your use. Yes, I know...books, but they're very informative ven it comes to 'standing in their shoes' so to speak."
"Your goal today is to interact vith your creature. Take notes on their structure, their reactions, why you may think they reacted the vay they did and...be aware of any surprises." She smiled and let her arm drop to her side. "Are there any questions before ve begin?"
She continued to watch the Professor as she stretched, and started stretching her own shoulders. Why didn't she do this more often? It felt good.
Ahh, now she realised what the creatures were. She looked around to think about what creature she wanted to do for her project. What did she want? Absolutely NO spiders. She didn't really see anything that interested her, except for the snake that was close to her. Maybe she could do that? For some reason she was put into Slytherin, so it could be good to do the snake. Sure, that's what she would do. She didn't have any questions so she started to stretch her neck.

Fun, yes? She thought so.
Another question!
Medea turned her attention over to the Slytherin girl. That was a good question. "I've checked over the sign-up sheet and already spoke to the people who needed to change their topic. If I didn't speak to you, than your topic should be just fine. Just remember to include your own reasoning on why you consider that creature to be dark."
It was important!
The students were having some really good questions today. Medea chuckled softly. "To be honest, Miss Edwards, I am not quite sure. Once you reveal yourself to a boggart, it immediately changes shape into that of your vorst fear. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to spot it in it's original form. For now, one can only guess vot it looks like. Perhaps a task...you can look into?"
Hmmm?
Looking around, Medea smiled and shook her head. Now where did that Kelpie go? "Don't vorry, Miss Potter. There is one around here somewhere." Tricky thing, it was. "If you vish to look through some of the books up here in the front though, I don't have a problem vith it."
And another good question. Medea smiled and nodded. "Yes, you can vork vith your partners." She saw no problem with that, unless of course...they start climbing things. Then she'd be a little worried.
Seeing as some of the students were already getting started on their tasks, and Medea raised an eyebrow at what seemed to be a bouncing snake, it was probably time to let them all go ahead and start their work. "Alright, if you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask."
Really. Don't hesitate.
Raising her wand, she moved it horizontally in front of her in a sweeping motion across the room. The noises from the creatures became louder and their movements just a bit faster, but still at a speed which could be considered slower than normal. The nundu was walking? Dementor gliding through the air? Did it suddenly become cold when walking near it? Hinkypunk look as if it were producing fog around itself? Check out the grindylow moving across the floor!
Medea stayed where she was on her burgundy mat, taking the spider off of her head and placing it down next to her before putting on the goggles. That was better. Perhaps she could stretch a little more while the students studied their creatures.

So thats what the metal creatures were all about... Gideon mused to himself as he switched positions, stretching his one shoulder out as shown. They were representations of the creatures they were to be studying, writing and performing about for the DADA final. At least some of them seeing as Professor Romanos mentioned not being able to do so with the more human of the creatures. Apparently boggarts were included in that list which made sense seeing as no one knew if they had a real form besides what form they took for each person specifically.
Gideon was grateful the professor didn't have any boggarts lying around, the prefect not sure he could deal with fake-Grant at the moment especially after everything that had come up in arithmacy class. Books were good enough for him for sure. With no questions himself, he awaited the dismissal to work on the assignment as he stretched out his other shoulder in kind. He heard another student mention a boggart...a young lion in fact and he absently listened to see what kind of response she got which turned out to what he expected.
With their freedom to start working, the prefect stopped stretching and went to head over to where the books had been pointed out to be. He stopped by the younger Gryffindor first deciding to offer help. "Guess we'll both be doing boggarts. If ye need any help just ask," Gideon offered in case she might feel better asking another student instead of the professor.
They could help each other even if they weren't partners...right? Gideon then proceeded to the books and went to work looking among the titles for anything that might include information on boggarts.

Kurumi decided to stay right where she was on her mat and read some books before going off and touching random statues. Kurumi's eyes DID wander a bit and she sort of gaped at a few students who froze or had other things happen to them after touching them. Kurumi may have been a Gryffindor, but she wasn't feeling too brave about just reaching out and grabbing things.
Books it was for now.
Standing up, Kurumi collected a few books on kappas, her creature of choice, and then headed back to her mat where she returned to Indian style as she began flipping through the pages of the pop up book. It was sort of odd to be in a Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson...looking at pop up books, but if it meant she could utilize her time outside of class for other things instead of studying then she was all for it. The first page of her book was a simple anatomy pop up of a kappa, nothing particularly out of the ordinary. The next page as well, which was its natural habitat. One the next page, however...things were different.
The moment Kurumi turned the page there was a horrible scream that some would have probably compared to that of a banshee.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! HELP ME!!
Kurumi dropped the book immediately, squeaking loudly and sort of tumbled over backwards with surprise. She didn't even have time to register what had been on the page - which was a kappa attempting to drown one of its victims which is what had made the screaming noise.
At the same time, a sudden chill came over the Gryffindor - one that she assumed was because she had just taken a fright to the book - and was completely unaware of a certain statue LOOOOOOOOOMING near her.

"Are you feeling okay? Do you even realize that you are in class? This is no place to sleep. If you are not feeling well you can see the nurse and if you just wanted to sleep this is not the place!", Oichi said nudging the girl a bit more.

One moment Aspen was goading reactions out of Joao, clucking at him, testing him. The next.... Big sister HIGH ALERT. He was late. She knew every bump, freckle, and hair on his head - she knew when there was tears, excited sort of not. She swept around him protectively, like she could keep the Professor(s) from seeing him.
"Shhh," she warned him, slipping her arm around him and pulling him close so she could read the letter from his hands. She was quick about it, even though she read the words over and over and over in the short span of time.
...
...
Aspen's rosy cheeks drained of color and she no longer wanted to play with Joao, or metal creatures, or anything really. She closed the letter over in West's hands, for him to keep. "We're testing Dark Creatures, prepping for the Final. You can touch them, but note the consequences. The basilisk will paralyze you for a spell, and the grindylow latches on for a few seconds. Don't touch the nundu, but the rest should be fun for you. Take notes." She was .... shielding fiercely, not reacting, and very much wanting West not to get in trouble and to... well, now she wanted to leave class. Immediately. After West was settled, she might.

How could they work on their projects when there werent actual real creatures...As the Professor spoke Nerida actually looked around at everything, there were creatures, not actual creatures but there were creatures, they were enchanted statues or something like that. Listening to the rest of what the Professor said something about the last part stood out ot Nerida...She didnt know about the Professor but she didnt want to stand in a Kappa's shoes, even if it wasnt literal.
Nerida scotted back into her mat as the statue things stuff started to move... The dementor began floating and it was colder. This was weird...Standing up she began to look for Sarassi and Narumi, her partners in crime for the project. Where they even their for the lesson? Rocking from foot to foot she glanced around the room. Her eyes fell on the Kappa...Did she have to go over there?

So it was pretty cool that Professor Romanos was helping the class get a jump on their final projects and everything but these er-statue thingys...they moved! And they acted like the real deal?! That made the second year a bit uncomfortable...NOT that she was scared or anything...ohhhh no! It's not like Romanos would set them up to be attacked, right? RIGHT? Of course not...She tried to put all the minor worries out of her mind as she started to search for her group mates...and the grindylow.

Annabelle found Ella finally. She saw her by the grindylow tank. "Hi Ella, sorry i couldn't find you." she said with a small smile. She saw the Grindylow take a hold of her hand. "Jesus...that grip was strong!" Annabelle stared in awe. She took notes of Ella's reaction. She put her hand in the tank for the research herself. The Grindylow had menacing teeth and stared at her with a evil smirk. It took a hold of her hand and Annabelle gasped. She wasn't prepared for the strength. "Holy crap, i do not think i want to do that again." she said, when the grindylow let go, it went back to swimming in the tank. It's eyes were still on Belle. She still felt the slimy gooey sensation on her hands from the grindylow taken a hold of her.

Okay... so trolls were alright to write an essay about. Nora grinned in response, also sort of glad that there was no troll statue around, or else she would have literally run out of the classroom. It was scary enough with all the fogginess and whatever the other statues did around the room; at least she didn't need to pay attention so she wouldn't be STEPPED ON by a fake troll.
And that meant books. Lots and lots of books. Good.
She made her way to where the books were and started filing through the pages, until... a pop-up thingy pretty much... popped up and scared her. Well, at least she didn't scream this time, and THAT was something. It was simply terrifying to be in the classroom at the moment.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Oakey sat silently trying to see if he could figure out what had gotten over Kurumi. Maybe she's blind and deaf, both at once! What kind of terrible fate could have befallen her to get two disabilities at once. If it wasn't that maybe her memory was wiped of everything Oakey!?!? That would be the worse possible scenario. He would have to re-introduce himself all over again and rebuild the friendship the two of them had.
He was lost in thought for so long that he hadn't realized that everyone was up and moving now. RIGHT! RESEARCH! I have to research the Yeti! He hoped up quickly from his mat and dashed over to the pile of books. to find readings on the Yeti.
As he went through the books he took notice that a lot of the Yeti readings were paired in with books about trolls and giants. He grabbed four books that he found had information on his dark creature and headed back to his mat.
He was about halfway there when he lost his footing and tripped forward. Hopefully any one watching his fall would think that a Lethifold had tripped him. Right it was definitely a Lethifold Oakey half convinced himself as he picked up his books and sat back down at his mat. He opened up his first book. It was a simple book that cataloged different muggle sighting of Yeti's around the world that the magical world had trouble covering up. Some in North America and quite a bit in Tibet, It was titled "No Yetis Here...Really!" He set this aside and looked at the book underneath it. "Year with the Yeti" by Gilderoy Lockhart? he said quietly under his breath. wait wasn't this man a fraud? why does Romanos have his books?!?! Professor Romanos! Oakey spoke up waving the book in the air to get the DADA professors attention. I don't think this book should be in with the Trolls and Giants books. He moved his finger across the Authors name. Wasn't he disgraced for having taken credit for adventures he had no part in? This book won't help him one bit if everything written in it was a fiction.

Honestly.
Waylon didn't know why Medea still invited him to help out with her classes. He was always, always late, and really, there was no reason for it this time. Unless you call being extremely lazy and over sleeping a reason. Yeah, he didn't think so.
Practically running up the stairs and through the halls, which he would not encourage any of the students to do, he shoved the rest of his breakfast into his mouth before skidding to a halt in front of the dueling arena. That was where she said to go, right? It had been a while since she asked him to help, but that was what he could remember her saying, and after peeking his head into the room confirmed that he remembered correctly. How awesome! And by the looks of it, he didn't seem to be that late. Even awesomer!
Making sure he didn't look too rugged, although, with what he was helping out with, rugged might be good, he opened the arena door and stepped inside, his eyes automatically taking in all the floating dark creatures. He wondered if Medea would let him keep one! He decided that he would ask at the end of the lesson, and to make sure he wouldn't forget, he snatched one of the Nundu's out of air before making his way over to his co-workers. He didn't notice what was happening to his hand.
"Hello, Medea. Calista." That was the Divination Professor's name, right? Hmm.. "Sorry I'm late."

Well.
Tiffany hadn't really chosen a creature for her project yet. It would be a good chance for her to know more about different dark creatures before making up her mind. However she wasn't brave enough to touch the real creatures first, since they were quite dangerous and horrible in some ways. So she decided to go and take some books and read at first.
She went towards the professor and found a pile of books talking about vampires and werewolves and went back to her own mat and sat down. These two were truly good choices for her project indeed. She flipped through one of them and delicately watched the movement of the werewolves displayed on the page.

Oh, so they WERE going to interact with the creatures. Cool!
But they were supposed to work with the ones that they were doing their final on, and...Penelope couldn't remember which creature that was. She did remember that her partners were two of her Quidditch teammates, but she didn't see them at the moment. So...yeah, she was in a bit of a pickle.
But then there was a REALLY LOUD SCREAM and the first year was instantly jolted from her thoughts. What in the world?!
Had that come from Kurumi? What was so scary? The creatures? And WHAT was that hovering near her?
"Kurumi, are you okay?" she asked, walking over to the older girl. "Did one of the creatures attack you?" Like the one that was creeping up on her now and making everything feel suddenly cold?

It was cold. Really cold. Ridiculously cold. Granted, it was also December now which meant that it should be cold, but the Dueling Area was never really cold. So...what was going on now?!
Pushing herself back up, Kurumi closed the picture pop up book and set it to the side. Maybe she would just stick with the safe looking encyclopedia. Those didn't make noise or scare people...probably. Before she could reach for it, however, Kurumi heard a small voice coming from her right. "Oh, hey Penelope," Kurumi said, her voice still shaking a bit from the surprise. "N-No, it was just the book I was reading. I...recommend you not look at that one until you have cast a Silencing Charm on it." Or even at all, assuming the girl was looking to do research about kappas.
The cold feeling continued to surround the Gryffindor...which was really really WEIRD...and she was still blissfully unaware of the little metal figurine that was still staring at her.

When the professor had told them to start with their finals project. Jonathan dashed to get a book about werewolves, he has read about them before but is still not entirely 'knowledgeable' about it. Jonathan sat in his mat comfortably as he stretched out his legs and opened the book. The book looked creepy with it's covers, so what's inside is probably just more terrifying. However, Jonathan liked learning about dark creatures and just DADA in general.
Before he could flip through the first page, someone's book just suddenly screamed. Jonathan eyes suddenly snapped directly to.... Kurumi. She looked terrified with it, well, with that sudden scream, who wouldn't. Jonathan looked at her for awhile, he, himself was still shocked with the scream too. Was she okay? Then a lower year Gryffindor came near her, whose name he does not know because they have never really been acquainted with each other.
Staring at her book, Jonathan saw she's reading about 'kappas'? So if that happened in that book, surely his book would do the same. These are about werewolves and werewolves are scary too.
Glancing back at the book, Jonathan was anticipating the same thing would happen to him. Instead of just randomly opening it, he first went through the contents of the book and chose which one to read first... Which is, the basic and general knowledge about them. Opening the first chapter of the page, he heard the howl of a werewolf.
AAAAOOOOWWWW!
Niiiice.
SPOILER!!: Chapter 1: Etymology and Basic Knowledge
The word werewolf is most likely to derive from two old-Saxon words, wer (meaning man) and wolf. Frequently used Greek terms Lycanthropy refers to the transformation process while Lycanthrope, which is in fact synonymous to werewolf, is the afflicted person. The popular definition of werewolf or lycanthrope is a man who transforms himself or being transformed into a wolf under the influence of full moon.
A werewolf, is a mythological or folkloric human with the ability to shapeshift into a wolf or an anthropomorphic wolf-like creature, either purposely or after being placed under a curse and/or lycanthropic affliction via a bite or scratch from a werewolf, or some other means. This transformation is often associated with the appearance of the full moon.
It has cognates in several other Germanic languages including Gothic wair, Old High German wer, and Old Norse verr, as well as in other Indo-European languages, such as Sanskrit 'vira', Latin vir, Irish fear, Lithuanian vyras, and Welsh gŵr, which have the same meaning. The second half, wulf, is the ancestor of modern English "wolf"; in some cases it also had the general meaning "beast".
An alternative etymology derives the first part from Old English weri (to wear); the full form in this case would be glossed as wearer of wolf skin. Related to this interpretation is Old Norse úlfhéðnar, which denoted lupine equivalents of the berserker, said to wear a bearskin in battle.
Facsimile of the first seven lines of the 14th century English translation of the 12th century French manuscript The Romance of William of Palerne. Yet other sources derive the word from warg-wolf, where warg (or later werg and wero) is cognate with Old Norse vargr, meaning "rogue", "outlaw" or, euphemistically, "wolf".A Vargulf was the kind of wolf that slaughtered many members of a flock or herd but ate little of the kill. This was a serious problem for herders, who had to somehow destroy the rogue wolf before it destroyed the entire flock or herd. The term Warg was used in Old English for this kind of wolf. Possibly related is the fact that, in Norse society, an outlaw (who could be murdered with no legal repercussions and was forbidden to receive aid) was typically called vargr.

Kurumi certainly seemed okay, if a bit shaken. But she apparently hadn't been attacked - not even by that creepy one behind her? - so it hadn't been her that screamed...
Oh?
"Books can scream?" Now she wasn't sure she wanted to try reading any of her textbooks if she'd need a Silencing Charm. "Oh. I don't know how to cast that..." So she wouldn't be looking in that book or any other book any time soon.
"Will the creatures scream too?" Like that creepy one which Kurumi somehow seemed unaware of. "Like that one?" Penelope pointed to it.

Alyssa looked up from studying the Kelpie that she had in her lap. She couldn't help but smile when she saw the Groundskeeper enter the classroom. She was right after all. She didn't know how Professor Romanos was able to convince Mr. Murdoch to come back to help again after last term's DADA class, but here he was back again. She had to give the man some credit. He definitely didn't say no to anyone's request for assistance.
Alyssa bent down and studied the Kelpie she had in her lap again. She normally would have allowed it to start walking on the ground like the rest of the other magical creatures but since Kelpies had the ability to constantly shapeshift into other creatures, Alyssa didn't feel the need to have keep hunting it down if it happened to shape shift while her eyes were not on it.
She first studied it's body structure as a Kelpie. It did look like a regular horse except that it's mane looked and felt like the bullrushes that grew along the marshes. She then felt it's body. According to the textbook she was reading, the skin was supposed to feel like that of a seal's. Alyssa reached out to touch the mechanical Kelpie she was holding and was surprised to feel that the skin did feel like that of a seal. The only reason, Alyssa knew what the skin of a seal felt like was because she had petted one at a Sea World Park back in San Diego, California.
Alyssa continued to study the creature while reading the textbook. The skin was supposed to feel like a seal's but instead of feeling warm it was cold as how something dead would feel. Alyssa touched it and shuddered. It did feel cold like ice.
She quickly wrote in her journal what her findings were so far.
Text Cut: Alyssa's notes on the Kelpie
1. Likes to shapeshift to look like other creatures.
2. Looks like a horse.
3. It's mane looks like seaweed or the bullrushes that grows along the swamps.
4. It's skin is smooth and feels like a seal.
5. Skin feels cold like something dead.

Reason: Changing Groundskeeper last name. Because of Waylon I keep thinking of Jennings.
More hello attempts for Kurumi and a hello to Merdog =)
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Oakey waited patiently for someone to help with his Lockhart book dilemma. and keep his book still raised in the air.
That's when he heard a loud scream in front of him and his eyes darted right at Kurumi! NOW'S MY CHANCE! He thought ASK IF SHE'S OKAY! THEN SAY HI! It was perfect. Ku... He managed to let out before a little Gryffindor girl bet him to the punch! She responded to her as well!
He lowered his book and thought up one more silly theory about Kurumi. Maybe she can only see fellow Gryffindors. All other houses must me completely invisible to her. That was a good one. Maybe he should keep track of these so he doesn't forget any. His "I'm a ghost" Theory was up in the air, and that was one he needed to test out still.
Then the door opened and he saw the Groundskeeper walk in. He waved his hand frantically for a silly looking hello then said Hiya Mr. Merdog. Oakey remembered reading Mr. Merdog's signature during the protest and now assumed that it was his actual name. He only went by Murdoch because he was embarrassed of being called Merdog, poor guy.
