| | | The Greenhouses: Herbology Lesson One Herbology Lesson One
It was such a nice day outside, the weather was mild, not quite warm but not cold either, and it was perfect for the first lesson of the term. Seren stood just inside the entrance to greenhouse two, waiting for the students to arrive. It was fairly dark in here, with creeping ivy curling an crawling its way up the sides of the glass panels, but there was still enough light to see clearly.
Tapping her heel excitedly and stroking the moving tendrils of a nearby ivy, Seren waited patiently for the students to arrive. "Just form a group here please," she said to them indicating to the area just in front of her. Yes that's right... just stand there, no need for sitting just yet, or at all. Lesson Progression: Why is there little light in this greenhouse? What plant is this? (identify only) What are fire seeds used for? Do you have any questions? What care requirements do we need to consider? Practice the incantation. Practice the wand movement. The ActivityYou may be dismissed when you have finished OOC: The lesson has officially started, do not announce yourself arriving from this point onward, just pretend as if you've been here the whole time. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me a PM. |

Aurora collected some more soil and filled the pot to the top, gently patting the soil down. She made a point of not pressing too hard - no seed can survive if you suffocate it.

Minerva looked at her list. Quote:
Carefully take a single fire seed with dragon hide gloves and place on top of the soil.
She had her gloves on already so she went to the front to get her seed. Once she had the seed Minerva went back to her pot. She looked at the seed not believing that these could cause such a horrible fire last term. She carefully placed the see on the top of the soil in her pot.

With her fresh soil, Ariella sprinkled the mixture onto her fire seed. She tightened her gloves again and reached her hands inside the pot, patting down the soil a bit. Was that good enough? She was terrible at judging things like this.
Ariella came to the conclusion that she had indeed packed down the soil too much. She loosened it up a tad and glanced inside. That should do. She looked down at her notes. Only one more step to go!

Zhenya listened to the Professor, but was a bit worried she might make an accident. Looking around she saw the students getting ready. She pulled on her protective goggles, then gloves. Ahh - safe! Then she got her pot and made sure it wasn't dirty or broken, which it wasn't. Perfect! She went over the spell again in her mind, and then practised the movement again. She was ready!
Holding her hand out, she drew a circle with her wrist at the same time saying " Chaudensis". She touched the side of her pot and it felt like it was warm. She was happy - first step done!

The thought of soil all over her body was NOT very pleasant what so ever the thought of having a shower however was quite pleasant.. Points was nicest of all of course! SO one more step and she'd be close to wiping the dirt off.. She didn't really mind it though..
LuLu smiled final step since she hadn't stopped mving in a while she hadn't noticed the cold air of the greenhouse and how damp and gloomy it was, she took out her wand and pointed at the plant "Aguamenti," she muttered.. "Scourgify," she whispered. All done..

Next Ella needed some more soil, enough to cover the little seed and fill the remainder of the pot. She smiled. When she was younger, her mother used to call this part putting the seed to bed. She got the soil she needed and covered the seed until the pot was full. As she patted the soil down gently, she whispered, "Goodnight little seed. Grow strong." She looked up to see several students glaring at her but she didn't care. She was just doing what her mom had taught her and she smiled and shrugged in return to their stares. Another step to cross off the list, yes! |

Having heated her pot up, it was time for step 2. She looked in her notes again, and saw that she needed to half fill the pot to warm the soil. She found the soil and gathered enough to half fill her pot. Perfect! She just had to play the waiting game now.
After a few minutes she put her hands against the pot - still nice and warm. Then she put her finger in the soil to feel the temperature, and it felt nice and warm - perfect! Step done.

Okay, now for the last step. The boiling water bit. Aurora retrieved her watering can and, pointing her wand into it, muttered, "Aguamenti." She let a little water pour into her watering can. Then she heated her watering can with Chaudensis until the water began to boil. Okay, boiling water, check. She tipped her watering can the tiniest bit so that a teensy sprinkle of water left the end of the spout. She quickly returned the can to the upright position, careful not to use any more water than necessary. It must be easy to drown fire seeds after all...

And now... watering the seed. Selena took her wand, rolling it around before looking at the little pot. "Time to water you!" Sel said, beaming from ear to ear. "Aguamenti," she said, as she allowed the water to pour into a watering can. As soon as the can was three-quarters full, she took her wand and did a little rotating wrist motion thingy and said, "Chaudensis." Little bubbles rose to the surface of the can and Selena smirked. Boiling water was easy now. She then tipped the can over into the pot, making sure it had the appropriate amount of water.
Task five... done.

Ariella positioned her watering can in front of her. Pointing her wand at it, she firmly said, "Aguamenti!" She waited for a while until the water was boiling.
Tipping the can slightly, she gave her seed a nice sprinkling of water. Was she finished?! She was finished! She glanced into her pot again to see the slightly moistened soil. It looked alright, surprisingly. Ariella grabbed a spare slip of parchment and scribbled her name on it so she could properly label her pot.

Zhenya was ready to plant her seed - her FAVOURITE part! She was so excited to see this grow, that she almost tripped over going to get it. That snapped her out of her excitement bubble. She pulled up her dragon hide gloves, making sure they were nice and snug, before retrieving one of the fire seeds. She treated it carefully, and walked back to her pot. Carefully, she placed the seed in the middle of the pot, on top of the soil. She smiled slightly.

It was time to cover her seed, and let it grow. She went to the soil again and got enough to put in the pot to cover her seed. She was almost finished. Almost time to watch it grow. She sprinkled the soil on top, and patted it down lightly. She stepped back to make sure it looked okay - like everyone else's. Satisfied, she went back to her notes to cross off what she had done, and to see what was next.

Ella had come to the last step and this one was going to be the trickiest. She knew if she drowned the little seed, it would be ruined. This isn't your first time planting, just go slowly and you'll be fine. Ella took a deep breath looked at her notes to make sure she was going about this correctly. Ella pointed her wand at the watering can saying,"aguamenti." The water shot out rather quickly and it caught her off guard but the jet stopped in time so that no water got onto the table or floor. Phew! Ella then began to heat the water in the watering can. When she concluded that it was boiling, she poured a very small amount on to the soil, just enough to get it moist. With that Ella set down the can and pulled her list over with enthusiasm. She crossed off step number 5 with a smile and added her name to the front of her pot. After all, she wanted to see this little guy grow. After the pot was labeled, Ella sat back awaiting the next instructions.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Glenn Reyes Fourth Year | #3 Right. Next instruction. It seemed simple enough. Glenn took her fire seed in her dragon hide gloves and placed it on top of the soil. It warmed her hands even through the gloves. She smiled and brushed the soil of her gloves. Onto the next instruction. Quote: 1. Charm pot to heat itself. 2. Fill half of pot up with soil and let it rest for several minutes to warm up. 3. Carefully take a single fire seed with dragon hide gloves and place on top of the soil.
4. Cover fire seed with soil, so that pot is filled. Pat the soil down a little (not too much, you don't want to suffocate it).
5. Water the fire seed with boiling water, without drowning it.
For boiling water, add water (via aguamenti) to the watering can and heat it. This will ensure you 1. control the temperature and 2. don't over water your seed. Use a VERY small amount, simply enough to moisten the soil.

It was time to water her fire seed. Oh no - she hoped she didn't do this wrong... She went to get herself a small watering can. She said "aguamenti" and the watering can half filled. Nothing worse than overfilling something with boiling water. No, she definitely did not want to be scalded by something like a heavy, boiling water can. She heated the water within the watering can making it boiling hot. She was slightly frightened of spilling boiling water on her, so she very carefully picked it up and tilted it to water her seed, just a little. She put enough water in the pot, then cleaned all her equipment and put it back where it belonged. Then she put a piece of paper on the side saying Zhenya Burton
2nd Year Slytherin
She stepped back to look at it. It looked lovely. Well, as lovely as a newly planted bush could be. Still, it was exciting. She had only seen the one, and that was that very day, so having her own would be great. She vowed to herself that she would come back often to check on it.

Minerva was moving right along she would be done soon. She actually was enjoying her self more then last term. Well there was so pixies so far so of course she was enjoying herself. She looked at her notes again Quote:
4. Cover fire seed with soil, so that pot is filled. Pat the soil down a little (not too much, you don't want to suffocate it)
This seemed easy enough she thought. Minerva got the soils and decided maybe to talk to the seed a bit. She didn't know why, but she just wanted to. "Ok little seed I'm putting soil on you. Grow nicely now and no fires." she smiled at her own goofiness and put the soil on the top of the seed filling it to the top of the pot. She then patted down the soil, but not to much.

Hmm. So, what happened if the charm was weak and didn't exactly last? What if it had worked when Sierra checked it but didn't work anymore? Or later on? Deciding that she'd test that by waiting a few minutes before moving on, Sierra stood back and just let time pass. When a few minutes had gone by, she put her hands to the pot. She felt the same heat at the surface of the pot, an indication that the charm was still in effect.
Good. The last thing she felt like doing was starting all over...
Sierra grabbed a small shovel and headed to the soil supply. Scooping her shovel in, she came up with a good amount of soil, all of which she added to the pot. Looking at the pot, she noticed that she still hadn't filled it halfway with soil. She took her shovel back to the soil supply and scooped up another large amount. After adding that soil to the pot, she'd now filled the pot exactly halfway.
Now, all she had to do was stand back and it rest for several minutes in order to warm up. So she did just that, all the while eyeing her pot to make sure nothing terrible happened to it.

Kennedy made small notes of the crucial points he thought might be needed later. After practicing the wand movement once again --to make sure he got it right-- he looked down at his parchment.
Okay... Charm pot to heat itself.
He lifted his wand above it, making sure it wasn't pointing at his shoes or anything that he didn't want to heat up and began with the wand movement. "Chaudensis," he said. Now, to test if it worked.
He did what he's seen his mom do when she cooks. He held his hand to the side of the pot, but didn't touch it. No need to get burned on the first Herbology lesson. Kennedy nodded to himself when he felt the heat radiating from the pot to his hand.
Nice.

| Post #1 curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog Finally, the practical part of the lesson! Alex was ready to get to work with these fire seeds! Smiling happily as he began his work, he situated his cauldron in front of him and pulled his wand out of his pocket. Alright, first step...heat the cauldron. "Chaudensis," he muttered, moving his wand in a circular motion over the cauldron as they'd been instructed. Had it worked? How could he tell without...TOUCHING it?
Sighing, he took his gloves off and very carefully tapped the side with his finger. Gah, he hadn't been able to feel anything! Rolling his eyes, he felt the cauldron just a BIT longer than a second this time, and felt to his delight that it was warming up. Perfect! Step one DOWN.

Minerva looked over her notes to make sure she had gotten every step. Yes..yes it was time for the final step. Quote:
5. Water the fire seed with boiling water, without drowning it
Minerva got her water can and pointed her wand in it ""Aguamenti." The water began to fill in the watering can. Minerva then brought it to a boil and then began to water the soil in the pot. She watered it just enough to make the soil wet and not over water it. "Ok little seed there you go." she giggled at talking to the seed again. Then she put her name on the pot. Minerva Wheatborn. Once she was done she made a note on her notebook "GO VISIT SEED" hopefully this will help her remember.
