It was such a nice day outside, the weather was mild, not quite warm but not cold either, and it was perfect for the first lesson of the term. Seren stood just inside the entrance to greenhouse two, waiting for the students to arrive. It was fairly dark in here, with creeping ivy curling an crawling its way up the sides of the glass panels, but there was still enough light to see clearly.
Tapping her heel excitedly and stroking the moving tendrils of a nearby ivy, Seren waited patiently for the students to arrive. "Just form a group here please," she said to them indicating to the area just in front of her. Yes that's right... just stand there, no need for sitting just yet, or at all.
OOC: The lesson has officially started, do not announce yourself arriving from this point onward, just pretend as if you've been here the whole time. If you haven't done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules. All SS Board Rules apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment. Please behave appropriately and most importantly... have fun. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send me a PM.
After he finished planting the seed, Hades stretched his back after a long time hunching to plant the seed. He returned the goggle and watering can back to the cupboard and the remaining soil into the store.
Picking up the pot, Hades carefully made his way to the hedgerow and settled the pot by the bushes. At the same time, some of the vines creeped down and tried to hug him. Hades chuckled and pet one of the vines as if it was a pet. "What's the name of this fellow, professor?" asked Hades brightly, implying to the whole ivy-like plants.

He struggled getting the goggles off-- it was making it difficult to read his notes with his glasses on. When he finally did he realized that the next step involves soil. Alright....
He got himself some soil and started to sprinkle it in evenly into the pot, eying his notes again and filling it up halfway as directed. He felt the pot-- it was still quiet hot from the spell, shouldn't take too long for the soil to warm up.

"Be-Bently? Help? Ellie called from the dark corner. Apparently, her long hair looked nice and inviting because a couple vines had found their way to it. Ellie was frozen still. She couldn't make herself move. SOMEONESAVEHER.
Answering a cry for help wasn't exactly on her to-do list, but she would do it anyway. Turning her back to what remained of the group, Seren saw that Ellie had gotten herself a little tangled up in the ivy... or ... the ivy had gotten a little tangled up in Ellie.
Either way, she smiled and made her way over to the dark corner. "Just hold still," she said stroking the ivy's tendrils and inviting it to wrap itself around her finger instead. "She likes you." It wasn't a bad thing, nothing to be scared of. Once the ivy had been carefully extracted from Ellie's hair, and wound around her finger, Seren gave it a light kiss before shaking it off. "There, all done.. and you survived, that's a bonus right?" she said teasing.

"Professor Bentley, I'd like to mark my pot, but I'm not sure how."
This was one of the moments Gwen thought it would be helpful to have a permanent marker with her, something wizards and witches never seemed to have invented.

When the can was half full Salima warmed it up by saying 'Chaudensis' and twisting her wrist in a circular motion and the watering can began to warm up.
Once the can was warm enough Salima sprinkled some of the warm water over the fire plant until it was damp but not completely wet.
When she had finally finished the task she called over for Professor Bentley and asked her 'Professor, I would like to mark my pot could you help me? Please?' she added
It amused her that two students didn't know how to mark their pots. It wasn't exactly rocket science... but alas, at least they'd learn. "You mark it by either writing your name on the side, gluing a label to it, drawing on it... you can do pretty much anything." But seeing as this ight not be the most useful advice, Seren fished her hands into her pockets and pulled out two medium lengths of string. One black and one brown. "Here, take these and tie them around your pot... or tie a label to it if you don't know the sticking charm."

Huh?.. did a student just ask what the ivy's name was? Oh Merlin, Seren loved this child already... shame he wasn't a Lion. "Her names Wasima... it means graceful or pretty."

Hovering is hand over the soil he could feel thats its gotten nice and warm, he shifted his eyes back on his notes. Now it was time to secure the fireseed. Pulling his dragonhide gloves tightly around his hands he proceeded to select a fireseed, picking it up gently then bringing it to his pot. Carefully he tilted his hand close onto the soil’s surface and allowed the fire seed to roll onto it, resting nicely roughly at the center of the pot.

Grabbing up his belongings, Gideon headed quietly over to his sister to check and see how she was doing. "How is it going Kac?" he asked with a smile as he came up beside her, his bag slung over his shoulder.
Kacie looked up when she heard Gideon's voice and smiled a little. "I'm going alright," she glanced around. "I'm going so much slower than everyone. What if I don't finish in time," she said a little worried.

5. Water the fire seed with boiling water, without drowning it.
For boiling water, add water (via aguamenti) to the watering can and heat it. This will ensure you 1. control the temperature and 2. don't over water your seed. Use a VERY small amount, simply enough to moisten the soil.
The next step was an easy one, just to fill the pot with soil an wait for it to warm up. So that's what she did, fill her pot halfway with soil and waited.

With the fireseed nestled nicely on the soil’s surface, Vickers proceeded to take the rest of the leftover soil and filled the pot in, tapping it a few times on the side with his gloved hands and patting the surface lightly to even things out. There that looked nice and secure for the fireseed without the soil looking too packed in.

"Oh," said Hades simply, nodding to the professor's response. He pulled up his sleeve a bit, looking at his watch and noticed it was almost lunch time. Grabbing his bag and slung it on, he headed for the door, but stopped where Professor Bentley was standing. "Thanks, professor. I'll see later," smiled Hades before he left the greenhouse.

Reading his notes again, the next step involved... boiling water? Errr ok.
Still with his gloves on, Vickers grabbed a watering can and cast the Aguamenti charm into it, filling it about halfway through. The Professor did say that they shouldnt drown the seed, and he gauged that the half filled watering can was more than enough for the last step. Again he uttered the Chaudensis spell with the wand movement on the watering can, and waited for the water to start bubbling.
When the water got hot enough he took the watering can and carefully sprinkled the boiling water across the surface of the soil, just enough to get it moistened. He lay the watering can back down and stepped back to look at his finished work. It looks good... then again it kinda looks like every other filled pot in class.
Removing his gloves, Vickers creased a parchment a few times and tore off a small piece, writing his name down and attaching it to the pot with a simple sticking charm. He transifered his work and lay it down on the area where the Professor instructred, then dutifully cleaned up after himself.
Making sure everything was back where they should be, he collected his things and hitched his bag up across his shoulders. "Thank you for the wonderful lesson Professor Bentley." the young man uttered shyly as he passed her by.

She? It had a gender? That was... weird.
Ellie just nodded and watched warily as she kissed the ivy. Also strange. Oh, and she was free. And she survived. Ellie laughed halfheartedly and quickly stepped away from the ivy. "Yeah, bonus." Patting her hair back to her head, Ellie cleared her throat. "Erm.. Thank you, Professor. Good lesson." And all that jazz.
Scurrying out of the dark corner, Ellie grabbed her bag and was out of the greenhouse in a flash.

Gideon looked over what the younger Gryffindor had done already....the charm and the dirt. "You'll do fine," he assured his sister sensing her get a little nervous despite her assurances even before she voiced her fears. "Just do what you can...and don't try to rush because it'll risk accident," he added trying to help her understand that she need not worry too much over it. Professor Bentley was certainly one of the nicer and understanding professors.
"Now the planting of the seed was next..." he gently prodded, glancing at his sister's hands to make sure her gloves were on.

Hearing her brother say that gave her a little more confidence. There was only three steps left to go, she could do this. "Right, I'll get it," Kacie said, as she moved to get the seed. She didn't even look to check her gloves because she was concentrating more on getting everything done correctly. It was a good thing Gideon was at her side and had checked that or she would have been in trouble had they not been on right.
Once she had the seed, she moved back to her pot and planted it inside. "That's done, now what?" she asked, looking at her notes to read what was next.

Seeing that it was indeed getting late, Gideon decided to assist Kacie as much as he could possibly be excused for. For while he didn't want to be gotten mad at for stepping in, he wasn't about to leave his sister alone and struggling to finish. So while Kacie retrieved her fire-seed, the older lion made sure she had enough dirt to cover it in the next step. He also opted to retrieve a watering can from the already-returned ones and put it aside to be filled up and boiled.
"Now you cover it with dirt," he answered simply, noticing her look at her notes as well.

Alrighty, onto the last step! Alex happily grabbed his wand and muttered "Aguamenti," filling the watering can with a bit of water as instructed. He'd always been good at watering plants around the house, so it wasn't too difficult trying to estimate how much water the plant would need. Once that was done, he had to heat it...what was that spell again? GAH his memory was awful!
OH, right, "Chaudensis," he muttered, watching the water for a few moments as steam eventually began to trickle up from the water into the air. After bubbles appeared in the watering can, it was time to water his fireseed! Picking up the watering can VERY slowly, he poured some of the boiling water onto soil and stopped once the soil was nice and moist. There, all done!
He took off his gloves and goggles and quickly scribbled his name on a piece of parchment and stuck it to the pot with his wand. He placed it with the others pots and picked up his bags. "Peace out, Professor!" he called as he left the room.

Taking the soil that he already got for her she proceeded to covering the fireseed with the extra soil until the pot was full, then she patted it down lightly. "One more step to go," she said, looking at her notes for the last step.
This was the step that worried her, she had practiced the heating spell, but not the one that summons water. "Giddy, I don't know how to do that spell... to get the water. What if it doesn't work for me?"

"Yer welcome Kac," Gideon returned with a small smile trying not to wince at the nickname. He really needed to find something less....embarishing to call him if she insisted on a nickname."Yep," he said with a nod in agreement, "watering with boiling water," he added lifting the empty watering can up unto the work area so she could take care of it. Hearing her question, he bit his lip trying to think of the best way to handle it. "How about I show you it and then you mirror exactly what I do?"
No harm in that....right?
"Aquamenti," he cast careful to speak clearly so she could mimic. The 5th year then aiming the spell and the resulting jet of water into the watering can and filling it up only half way. "Now ye try and then warm it up."

She watched Gideon do the spell, before picking up her wand again and tried her best to mimic him. "Aquamenti," she said, pointing her wand inside the watering can. Surprisingly it work, but unlike Gideon's her jet of water was a lot smaller and it took a longer to fill the rest of the can.

Right. Out they went...
Seren ushered out the last few students, they'd be late to their next class if they didn't get a move on. Once she was sure there weren't anymore children trapped in the ivy, Seren tidied up a bit and put some things away.
