She dropped the book down, and ran away crying to the owlery.

Violet sat on the floor, looking intently into the mirror she had placed on the top of her table and holding her wand ready. Professor Magnus had told them to practice the charms they had learned in class, and she had decided to go a little green today before she went down to the Hall to eat. She closed her eyes and concentrated on making her hair green, tapped herself once on the top of her head, and spoke aloud, "Ris-TAR-is!" She opened one eye hopefully and found her entire head of hair was bright green! Oh no, that was much more than she had intended!

"Yes, school has been taking up most of my time. That and some writing. Oh, and it was my birthday on the 13th--I got a notice from Gringotts that my grandfather put some money in my account. And Miss Howard--that's my governess--sent me a book. On philosophy...". That was Miss Howard's idea of fun, reading improving books. "Pretty dull, actually--it would've been a total loss if I hadn't managed to scrounge up a cupcake. But I don't celebrate birthdays much anymore, not since I was little, you know," she added, because she didn't want the other girl to realize how much it bothered her. Better change the subject back to school.

Its hard to explain but I just felt...different more alive like there was something I was missing but now I found it" she smiled. She really loved Scott and she knew he loved her. Hmm, that sounded pretty good--though how could you really trust a boy? But Violet had never been comfortable trusting her deepest feelings to anyone, except maybe her Muggle uncle who she wasn't really supposed to be seeing. Maybe there was something to this boyfriend thing.
"How did you meet him, anyway? Did you know him before you got to school?" Because a few months seemed a pretty short time to be sure you could totally trust someone.

She knew what Violet was thinking. Most people had a somewhat similar reaction to all the first year couples. But she did trust Scott she just knew. He also trusted her with something important that she would never tell anyone. "We met during the opening feast" she smiled thinking about it. "There was some pureblood stuck on himself and he looked annoyed by it and I just went over and talked to him. I did embarrass my self pretty bad. I accidentally said he was handsome aloud but I meant to think it..." remembering that night she had been so embarrassed. But it turned out to be fine.

Wow, Chelsea really knew how to talk to boys! Violet wasn't sure she could bring herself to admit that she thought a boy was handsome, especially to his face--what if he made fun of you or something? Suddenly a picture of William, the blonde-haired second year who had been her partner in Transfiguration, popped into her mind....hmmm, he was kind of handsome....in a way.....if you liked that sort of thing....which Violet was not at all sure that she did.
"Well, that's very..bold of you, Chelsea. You seem to have very good social skills," Violet told her--Miss Howard always said it was important to offer positive reinforcement to people--and besides, Violet genuinely did admire her guts. Violet thought she was daring, but apparently not with boys.
"I was thinking I might go up to get some dinner now. I think I'll leave my hair the way it is--what do you think?" | |
