Damon had his hand raised in an instant "Professor Scabior, history is studied so we really know how things came to be in the wizarding world, without know about our history I do not think we as wizards would be able to function the way we would like. We want to help our children know about our history and even their history directly so i think its a good thing that we do this" said Damon.

He liked to take away points? Well that wasn't very nice. But so long as no Ravenclaws misbehaved and caused their house point loss, Vashti supposed it didn't matter too much. And she still liked the class. So anyway.

She raised her hand. "I'd say we study history to learn where we came from, what sort of people came before us, so we can learn from not only their past mistakes but also their successes and achievements. We can also study it to find out why things are the way they are today because for many things, if an event had happened differently in the past, the present would be very different - and possibly much worse - than what it is now. So from that, we could learn to appreciate what we have and honor the ones who kept a situation from going in a completely awful, destructive direction." She paused for a moment, starting to lower her hand until she decided to add something else. "Plus, history in general is very interesting, so why wouldn't you study it?" Her parents would certainly agree with that.

Victoria starred at the board for a moment, then took out a piece of parchment and a quill from her bag. On her paper, she put:

Victoria stopped writing and put her quill down. Are we suppose to turn them in or keep them and share them?

"You know," Ellie pointed out, "Our old Professor would give us snacks." Welton, of course. Ellie's favorite History of Magic Professor. Or, at least, she was tied with Lainey. For the sole reason of snack-giving. "If anything it would keep us awake..." Hinthint. She didn't expect grilled cheese, the House Elves wouldn't let her go get some, but Chocolate Cauldrons, maybe?

Just friendly advice.

She twirled her name plate,
around in her fingers as she thought about his question. From the third row, too, unfortunately. As the first two rows had filled up a lot quicker than she expected. She had totally planned on being there. Up and close to the pretty Professor.

Though she didn't have a good answer. History of Magic always did seem quite pointless to the Captain.

Charner was taking her lazy dazy time writing things down on the peice of parchment that had been waiting for her. What was more was that serious distractions occurred when the Professor finally started speaking. He was a little loud, but more excitable than any other History Professors she had the pleasure of meeting before. And what was more, he liked to take away points?!

....She didn't know what to make of this man. Nope. Not one bit.

Truth be told she couldn't help wonder if he snickered and giggled behind his own books while docking points. The information, to her, had just been conveyed in that sort of way.

Whatever his intention, the facts were the facts. She had to pay attention. She had to do well. No point loss. Not unless it was for a really good reason. A spider in his shoe might be worth it. Le smirk.

Quickly scribbling down the rest of her information, Charner listened to the other students reports and answers.



Then, as soon as her parchement was finished, raised her own hand. "Because history repeats itself Professor? So we should know what happened in the past so we can predict the future." .... "And learn valuable life lessons." That's what her father always told her about personal reflection anyways, and history reflection seemed the same, just on a grander scale.[/color]

Jonathan sat on the sides. History of Magic is indeed boring at times as the Professor had said. But why study it in Hogwarts? Jonathan isn't into reading that much and when studying for History of Magic, it does require some thorough reading. Yep. Boring. But then again, everyone is not like him. Some people do love reading.

Jonathan raised his hand to answer the question "Professor, we study History of Magic because it is to fully inform us on what happened in the past. To be informed about the past events such as the first and second wizarding war that happened decades ago" he said.

Jonathan put his hand down and was playing with the piece of parchment on the table. Are they allowed to touch it? He's not ripping it or anything but he did filled it up with the correct details.

Still snickering, Victoria tore her eyes away from the other girl and focused her attention back on the handsome professor. She narrowed her eyes at the question and then lazily popped a hand in the air.

"Is it because SOME people like History, and..... so that they have jobs? Like you, sir?" She smiled sweetly. "We have to keep the children in schooooool!"

Damon had been sat back in his chair since the lesson had started when he realised that everyone else was writing their names on the parchments on their desks. He quickly got out one of his quills and lazily scralled his details down.

Then he casually raised his hand and answer in a bored voice, "Because some people in History have done stupid things, so in order for it not to happen again, we need to know exactly what happened and why." After he had finished speaking, he sat back in his chair again and put his hands behind his head.

Kimalia raised her hand, "It's very important that we learn how we came about to how we are now today, also recognizing what we did well and what we learned or are learning."

Desiree listened as she sat in her chair fairly close to the middle of the room. Did he seem nice, she couldn't tell yet, but he got one thing right: Desiree had low expectations for this class, her sister had even said it was boring, and she was, well her sister. She pushed around her name plate a bit.
She thought for a minute and decided it was best to speak up when he asked a question. Raising her hand " Professor I think it's important to study history because it shows us where we came from, but also where we could be going.." she ended with a smile particularly pleased at her clever way of saying history repeats itself, without repeating what had already been said.

Orchid had upon first glance missed the note on the blackboard but once she had, she obeyed and wrote her information on the parchment.

She raised her hand at the Professor's question. "We study the History of Magic so as to learn from it, if we do not know it's history - our history - then we will know not it's mistakes - our ancestor's mistakes. To learn from it, we must know it and understand it, and to do that we must have the knowledge of the history." She said, lowering her hand.

Why they studied history? There wasn't really a right or wrong answer to that question, at least she didn't think there was. Isobel fiddled with her nametag while thinking about it. It read;

She had zoned out for about a second, but she snapped her eyes back to the front and the Professor whose name escaped her at the moment, though he had just said it. Oh well. She raised her hand to make up for zoning out. "We have to learn because it is good to know what happened. We need to have a good understanding of our past to make our future better." At the beginning she hadn't really said why, then she repeated her previous statement. The last part she had added spontaneously, and she thought it sounded pretty good. And it made sense.

he liked to take points? This was a common theme with all the new professors. Seriously, why were they all like this this term? Raising her hand, she answered "So, we can learn from our past? And to learn why things are the way they are."

Finally pulling out her quill she made her name tag

Alright, so he hadn't expected so many answers but they were all on track. "So most of you- well all of you. Seem to understand why we study history. Which is great. Because in both the Magical and the Muggle World, History is the starting point of everything. Every idea. Invention. Spell. Potion. They are very, very rarely formed on their own, because most of the time history helps to influence it." Everett pushed off his desk, ready to actually get the little brains turning.

"So. From the top of your heads I want everyone to list one important moment in Wizarding History, or one important person. Don't explain the moment or what the person did. Just list."

She raised her hand to answer the question, "I think we study the history of magic to understand thoroughly what has brought us to the today. You can not get past thing you do not understand, so if we really understand the history we are less doomed to repeat it."

Kourtney's hand shot up. "Merlin." She had definitely heard of him before.

Kurumi's head shot in the direction of the Gryffindor that had mentioned Merlin and her thoughts went back to the chocolate frog card she had found. Merlin...a Slytherin AND a muggle rights activist. It really did not make sense in her head, but perhaps the professor would touch on this fact. Historically, Merlin would have been one of Slytherin house's first students, so perhaps he butted heads with Salazar Slytherin on more than a few things.

But, that wasn't the important thing, they were making a list of names and events.

Kurumi's hand immediately shot up in the air. "The founding of Hogwarts." She had to bite her tongue before she went into its historical significance and everything else. But that didn't stop the cogs in her brain from turning and essentially going into overdrive.

Raising her hand again, Marilyn smirked...this time chuckling a bit.

"Salazar Slytherin..."

Goodness, think of only one moment? She was starting to think of a million moments and couldn't decide on just one! Then they were all mushing together, and she was pretty certain Grindelwald wasn't the one who invented quidditch. One event...one event...hand was in the air! "The creation of the Statute of Secrecy."

A smile instantly appeared on the Ravenclaw's face. A surprise?! Really?! That had to do with FOOD?!

Okay. Ellie was good with that. And she wouldn't say anything more, lest she ruin this surprise.

Wait...why was it they studied History? Inventions? Spells? That? Ohhhkay....

Anyway, on to bigger and better things - or as better as they can get in such a class, "Bowman Wright." Without him, Ellie would be so lost in the world.

Damon once again raised his hand "Perhaps it would be wise to consider the Wolfsbane Potion of long ago that made Werewolves able to retain their minds in a good way" Damon that that would be an acceptable answer.

Oh boy. Now here comes the hard part. Jenny struggled to think of one great moment in wizarding history; she usually did so-so with Muggle history.

"Um...Albus Dumbledore." Jenny replied. She hoped she was right with that answer.

One person from magical history? Or one invention?

Charner's eyes nearly popped out of her head. There were so many. How was she supposed to pick just one?!

For a moment, she sat in her desk, dumbfounded. Then, her hand crept up, ever higher. "The creation of the first wand." She didn't know if there was such a thing, but there had to be a first for everything. Plus, Merlin used a staff and other wizards of legends didn't use a wand at all. But now, every wizard seemed to use a wand. Curiosity took over. When had that all started, and why?

Admittedly Salander snickered quietly when the Professor said something about sleeping behind a book. He raised a brow but the smirk was still firmly in place even with the points docking warning. Yeah he got it-- no monkey business in class. Doesnt mean they stop having fun right?

He let the first question pass since most have said what he was gonna say anyway. Oh first thing coming to mind about magical history? "The Grey Lady." Oh yeah, he'd like to know more about her history uhuh.

Oh and his parchment nameplate thingy of course
