History Of Magic. Now that was a lesson that she would never really get tired of. She would be able to just lose herself in it and all the other things in her mind would be pushed aside for a moment and that was just what she needed.

Entering the room, she smiled a little brighter seeing that some things never changed and that was comforting to her at the moment. The staff changes were starting to become normal to her, but at least the room was the same. Seeing a spot near the front, she headed up. Another term and another professor. It was just normal now.

"Good day, Professor," she smiled settling in to her seat. Pulling out everything she needed first, she then started on jotting down her information on the provided parchment.

Treyen had decided to keep attending all the classes he'd taken since...ever, and so he walked to the History of Magic classroom wondering just how Professor Cerulean had landed the 'Muggle Studies' status.

Without wasting any more time, Treyen stepped inside the classroom and gave this new Professor a nod, "Good day, Professor." This greeting was followed by...steps...because he was walking to the back of the classroom. Yup. Back. And wrote his name as instructed, of course.

History of Magic.

Destiny didn't know why she still took this class. It was ever so boring and after each lesson, he had to soak her hand in a bowl of ice for and hour. A WHOLE hour! Did anyone know what happens when you leave your hand in ice for an hour? It turns BLUE. She was getting frustrated already, and she wasn't even in the class.

Heaving a sigh, she finally made her way into the classroom. "Hello, Professor.." Why couldn't they have easy names to pronounce? Ehh. Giving the man a salute, she plopped herself in the seat right next to Evelyn. Would her BEST friend take notes for her?

Noticing an announcement on the Gryffindor Common Room notice board, AUgust saw that the class titled 'History of Magic' was going to be held that day and he figured this was a class he needed to take. Being Muggleborn was starting to get old, the whole not knowing what was going on sort of stuff, and he had already read alot of his textbooks and they hadn't helped too much.

So as he entered the classroom the Gryffindor picked a seat up front and followed the directions by writing his name, house and year on the parchment then waited for the Professor to begin.

Ashley found the class quickly and quietly located a place to sit, only noticing the professor once he was ready to sit. As he generally felt rude when he didn't at least say hello, he paused to give a polite, "Hello, professor," before actually taking his seat.
Then he settled in to get ready to get to work, taking note of the parchment and the instructions on what to do with it, quickly writing in the information with way too much excitement,
because he'd always wanted an awesome nameplate and everything, and he wanted to watch the parchment turn into one. How cool was that?

Heading into History of Magic, Stella knew that her hair wasn't entirely back to normal after Transfiguration, but as long as it was her normal dark brown, she didn't particularly care. She was fairly certain the professor wouldn't care either, which was why she'd simply made her way to an open desk and written on the parchemtn as asked before looking up again. "Hello Professor Scabior," she said with a smile, before loking down again to see a shiny silver nameplate on the desk. Seemed this class would be pretty cool.

She tends to oversleep lately. Once again, Aiden is nearly late for class. Though History of Magic is not one of her favourites, it is not one of her dislikes after all. She came running to the classroom where she stopped at the door for a while, trying to catch up her breath. Upon entering the classroom, she spots the new professor leaning on his desk.

"Nice to meet you, Professor Scabior," she greets him politely before proceeding to an empty desk. Then, she takes out her quill to write what was asked on the piece of parchment provided.

Sarah twisted around a little as someone sat next to her. Ah, yes she remembered her. "Hey, Alyssa!" she grinned. She hadn't seen Alyssa in a while. It was nice to have a friend to chatter with. She was getting bored with waiting...

As Sierra stepped foot into the room, she got that same odd feeling she'd gotten when she'd first seen Scabior at the feast on the first day of school. It felt like her stomach suddenly flipped, and she blushed for no apparent reason. She paused just inside the doorway and looked around the room. It was such a typical setup, but she didn't care much how the room looked. She really should go say hello before she sat down.

Sierra maneuvered around the desks and made her way up to the front, turning to face Scabior once she reached his desk. She looked at him, ready to say hello, but then she froze and found herself unable to say a thing. What?! Why was she feeling this way?! She stood there, looking similar to how a Muggle would look if it happened upon a Nundu, and then opened and closed her mouth several times.

"I..." ... "I Si..." Or not. She turned on her heels and retreated to the safety of a nearby desk. She busied herself with scribbling her information on the parchment.

...and then a heart for reasons even she was confused about.

Was it time to start?

Everett scanned the room quickly, taking in the number of students. Yeah. It seemed good. "WELCOME..." He said, his voice booming loudly. "...to History of Magic. I am Everett Scabior the new History of Magic Professor. I prefer to be called Professor Scabior and nothing else." His eyes fell upon the small girl who had addressed him by his first name. Yeah. That wasn't going to happen again. "Now I was in your position once. Long ago. And so I know that many of you think that History of Magic is a boring class. And it can be sometimes. Hopefully I can make it less boring, but if I can't and you start to sleep please try to hide your face behind a book or something to spare my feelings." Everett clapped his hands together loudly. Was that all that he had to say?

"Also please note that I like to take away points." He smiled. "Take that little bit of information anyway you want to." Hint. Hint.

"So I'm going to assume that we all know that History of Magic is the study of Magical History." That was in the name. People had to know! "But, can anyone tell me why is it, that we actually study magical history?"

Nika looked at her name plate one last time before she was finally satisfied with it.

She attempted to write in loopy cursive at first, but that didn't really work out too well so she ended up scratching it out and starting over. Oh the professor was starting to talk!

Professor Scabior and nothing else. Right. That's an easy one! Hide face behind something if planning to sleep. She'd have to remember that one. He likes to take away points? Bu-Bu-But Gryffindors already losing!

Why do they study history anyways? It's not like it really has a purpose... "Well we study it because they make us, right?" If she had a choice Nika would probably skip out on History of Magic. It's a nap waiting to happen.

Less boring. Well, she liked this History of Magic professor even more now.

Sitting back in her seat as she placed her bag down next to her and put her notebook on her desk in front of her, the Slytherin girl raised a brow at the mention of him liking to take points away. At least he has something in common with all the other new professors in this school. Good Merlin. Blinking as she thought about the question, she actually didn't particularly know the answer.

Huh. She raised her hand anyway. "To perhaps learn from our past mistakes so we can build a better future?"

Why were they learning magical history?

João raised his hand. "To learn from the past." The elders were wise, indeed.

He liked to take points? Oh dear. She better make sure that she did nothing to upset him, then.

After she had listened to his introduction, Kourtney hesitantly raised her hand. "Well..history can be very important to those living now. We can learn from history...learn not to make the past mistakes of past generations. And it's important to have background information on how magic came into being...as it may help us in understanding why some spells were created for a specific purpose, amongst...other things." That's...really all she had. At least she had given it her best shot.

Ashley was getting ready to take notes, when the class finally started and he was faced with a question to answer, along with other bits of information he quickly wrote down. When he thought of something, he raised his hand, and said, "We study magical history so we know why things are they way they are, and so we know about things that happened in the past that are important to us and helped shape the world as it is today".
That answer got a little long, and sort of ran away from him at the end there, so he shut up just as quickly as he'd piped up and went back to writing in a somewhat sheepish way.

Sky supposed they studied for the same reasons Muggles studied their history and raised her hand. "Is it because history has a way of repeating itself?"

"So that we learn from previous actions to know not to repeat certain mistakes," Ryden said, raising her hand and decidedly NOT looking at a seventh year Gryffindor boy. Because if she looked at him, he might know. And Ryded did not want him to know. Not after...

History of Magic. Yes. Fascinating stuff. The professor seemed sane. That was always good.

Louisa liked the way he talked - no, really, like he was a bit animated with the booming voice, clapping and knowing what a student would do behind a book, that was great.

Back to the lesson. She raised her hand, "So we wouldn't repeat our ancestors' mistakes and get stuck in a loop of mistakes. We wouldn't be able to improve or develop anything had we not studied the history." Yes, like still using those killing equipments in Quidditch. That'd be tragic.

Jenny blinked. Whoa. The professor sounded more intimidating now. Best not to let it get to her...

"We learn about magical history because we don't want to repeat past mistakes?" Jenny replied nervously. Well, she wasn't nervous...no, not really.

Kurumi, after waving to both Gideon and Jenny, returned her attention forward when class began. Why study history? Well, because there were always lessons to learn from the past, right? At least, that is how the fourth year always thought about it.

"I think that everyone has a different reason for studying history, professor," Kurumi said with her hand raised. "Some people might study for inspiration to see what should be done in the future. Learn from mistakes as some have already mentioned. It is also said that history has a way of repeating itself, so, if we study what has been, we will be better prepared for the future and what is to come." She paused for a moment. "We live in the present and are always looking towards the future. But without history, we would not understand people and society nor would we be able to understand change. I also think that studying history contributes to our moral understanding as witches and wizards while also helping us form our identity."

So many mean professors this term. Were they upset because of the poor reception at the feast due to the dirty silverware? Or maye the house elves added some Mean Potion to their pumpkin juices. Another Dark Lord would be easier to handle than all this. "To learn and understand who we are." Eino began after he raised his hand. "For example, we know we can't expose magic to muggles because of our past experiences with them."

August nodded here and there as the Professor began to welcome them all and go over a few beginning of class/term issues and then he asked them a question, similar to what his Muggle history teacher would have asked.

Raising his hand, the Gryffindor spoke. "Sir, we study History of Magic, for much of the same reasons we study Muggle History, to find out about our past, the events that have shaped us and the important figures who have helped to shape history itself." He ended with a smile. He was always good at history, maybe he would learn alot in this class.

Faven was eager to please the only Professor who she had had a chance to meet before term started. "Well Professor, I would think that we learn about the History of Magic similiarly to why muggles learn about their own history. To learn from past mistakes, and what went well in the past. To reflect on the evolution of our people. A well rounded education needs history because there is no present and future without the past that has already come and gone. Knowledge builds upon itself, history is a collection of that knowledge that we can use in our lives." Faven said with a smile.

Why would I find History of Magic boring? I even enjoyed plain History when I was in Muggle school... Kynthia could remember those classes. Okay so she did want to sleep in some history classes back then (and sleep in all other classes) but that was normal. Not all days could be exciting. But how could MAGIC History be boring?

Ahhh yet another point-thirsty teacher... She remember the first month she was there. Every house's points were in minus. It was kind of amusing though, than no one could seem to be able to win any points. She wondered what would have happened if that continued until the end of the school year.

As for the question, Kynthia could only think of one reason why this class was important. The same reason that applied to Muggle History too.
"Proffessor? The reason we study history in general, is to better understand our roots and learn from our ancestors mistakes, as to not repeat them ourselves. Sometimes we may even get inspired by some people's deeds and decide to follow in their footsteps, or in contrast be disuaded from following them." she said raising her hand.

Alyssa had heard Sarah say hi to her just as the Professor started to speak, so she turned and smiled to acknowledge her greeting, than placed a finger to her lips indicating that they had to be silent now that class had started. She then raised her hand and when acknowledged, stood up and answered:

"We study the History of Magic so we can attempt to make the present and future a better place to live in. By learning about our past we can make better choices and not make the same mistakes twice. And we also learn about ourselves and how we can, perhaps make history. My dad told me that there is a famous saying about learning history:Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it."
