"Yeahhhhh! Yeah a rope exactly!" He thought he said that. Then again he was distracted by... well the whole ship. And that rumbling in his tummy.

He glanced momentarily at Lexi when the Professor mentioned "Mediterranean" although he couldnt recall if they even spotted any of those tingle wingles during their stay over the summer. But then the Professor moved onto the next tank that got the Slytherin lad raising a brow.

Lookit the size of that thing....

He glanced around and listened to others saying that it could be used as a raft. Then something strange stirred within him "Uhm... yeahhhh could be used as a raft then again does anyone know the maximum weight capacity that thing can carry? I mean is it strong enough to carry a grown adult man or only a small child? And with added weight will that still be as impervious in the water to keep it afloat or will it start to sink after a few paces?" Leaning forward he continued "But given that width it can be used as a sail-- either on a small raft or enlarged to accommodate a ship this big. But again its tensile strength must be determined to gauge how strong it can go against the wind. Be pretty useless if it rips too easily." he said, tilting his head and leaned back into his seat.

Simon nodded as the professor confirmed his answer as well as the others were indeed correct. As they moved on to the lasted plant the seventh year tried to come up with answer but his mind kept wandering back to their surroundings. Who cares about bloody plants even the sea ones...its the water and sea air that are interesting. Why couldn't we go sailing.

The quidditch captain shook his head trying to get his thoughts back in order and focus back on the class at hand. However by that time all the relevant answers had already been supplied so he remained quiet and waited for the next one.

Kyle ran her hand through her hair, and sighed. "Um its a part of the Nymphaeaceae Water Lily family" she explained with a soft smile. "and the leaves are supposed to be quite large about three meters" she explained extending her arms out as she did so.

She for some reason wanted to plunder the bucket and smell it. Maybe it didn't smell like a goat. She hoped.

Not really knowing how he was feeling right now, Josh blinked towards the Victoria Aamazon-something with kinda confused eyes. Well...apparently he had been lost in thoughts and...well...thoughts. Not to mention that he had been fighting the strong urge to gaze at Evelyn and to punch Riley before throwing him into the lake every time he spoke. However he couldn't do that. The Slytherin girl would not be happy seeing her new boyfriend being punched and thrown into the lake as a snack to the Giant Squid. And Josh loved her so much that he couldn't do anything to upset her, not even beating the guy who stole his beloved girlfriend up.

So this...flower thing could be used to heal burns as his beloved had mentioned and someone else said that it could be used with beautifying stuff which his beloved would never need. And some others said that its large leaves could be used as a raft to sail. Evelyn would definitely look adorable while sailing on one...like a nymph. Gah! He wanted to hit his head to the desk before him for his mind somehow managed to relate everything to the she-snake. Maybe he should have never come down here. Yet since he did there was no way but to look for distractions. Participating the class would do.

''Is it...deadly professor?'' so he had trown a random question. ''Can it kill? I know many deadly and dangerous plants, mostly flowers, look all beautiful and since this one does too, is it dangerous?''

"Ahh very good question!" exclaimed Seren excitedly, and a very bright Claw no doubt. "There isn't much you can do to protect against the smell of the tingle weed. Once it makes contact with your skin- or any other body part for that matter- its spores and scent are immediately absorbed by that part of the body. However there are a few things you can try after the event has occured to lessen the smell- though it won't go away entirely." She smiled, it was good to know these things.
"Soaking the affected part in a solution of Primrose water and essence of Dittany usually helps, but another alternative is using leaches to ... remove the toxins from the affected area." If possible of course... and if you have the stomach for it. Unfortunately not many people liked leaches.

Nodding, "Yes that is correct, though I don't think the effects are worth the consequences"... no, definately not.

"Absolutely correct," smiled Seren nodding her head in agreement.

"Yes, thats absolutely true, even in some of the most severe cases of burns by applying the sap from the stalk of a Victoria Amazonica plant, it will emmediately relieve the burning sensation- but of course you should still seek medical attention." It wasn't a complete cure after all.

Seren knew this was about to come up sooner or later."Yes it can support a humans weight. A matured Victoria Amazonica leaf can support the weight of an adult male."

Seren was slightly confused by the boys answer... attracting beetles?
"I assure you Master Griengoth, there are far more easier methods of finding beetles than searching for a Victoria Amazonica plant..." Unless you lived in the Amazon in which case it wasn't a bad idea.
"Interesting thought though", she said encouragingly.



This rafting on plants seemed to be a popular idea... Seren was beginning to get worried.
"Well the plant could support the weight of an adult male... though I wouldn't recommend rafting on one. In order to do that you would need to sever it from it's stalk", she indicated down the length of the tank at her fine specimen showingthe class its long submerged stalk, "and in doing so it would render the plant... weaker. It would not make a very good raft."

"Yes, its often used to repair the hair, cover greys, for defizzing and so forth." Though you wouldn't want to use it too many times, thought Seren.

"As I've already said, it may support the weight of an adult male, but it would also depend on the size, the age and the health of the specimen you would wish to lay on." Why did eveyone want to lay on it?

Seren pursed her lips, she could see the girl wasn't alright, but there wasn't much she could do about it. If she needed assistance she would ask for it... surely.
"Yes the side effects often outweigh its benefits... at lease with continued use." For the likes of her, Seren couldn't understand why people would use it... so unnatural.

Seren nodded, "Correct!" she said smiling at the girl.

Seren eyed the boy sceptically... eat the plant? She couldn't help but laugh.
"Well you coul certainly do that... though I imagine it wouldn't taste very good... and as for the dizzyness, well I'm not sure. Feel free to try it though, its not poisonous."

"Yes thats right, regula use of Victoria Amazonica for cosmetic purposes may result in incurable boils... nasty business." She knew from experience... a girl she went to school with used it excessively... there was nothing Mungo's could do...


"Generally speaking they may.. though it does depend on the particular specimen you wish to ride..." was ride the right word? ride? sit on? stand on? lay on?.... meh it's all the same. "The health of the plant, its age and size are all contributing factors as to how much weight i may hold."

"Absolutely! it is best known for its uses in cosmetics, but it is also quite useful for treating burns." Seren smiled.

Mums? ... was this boy trying to be funny?
"Dad's too I suspect", she replied. It wasn't just a woman/mother thing.
"But yes, you're absolutely correct, Voctoria Amazonica is very useful for covering those unsightly greys."

Seren nodded, "Very good, prolonged use usually comes from cosmetic use, not so much for healing burns... unless you get burned a lot," mused Seren.

"Brilliant answer Miss Hollingberry, Take a point for Gryffindor." Such a neat, well thought out response, this pleased Seren.

"Well done, that's absolutely correct."

Seren nodded at the girl, "Yes yes, very good."

Ahh now this was an interesting question.
"Very good Master Carter, and the answer is no... unlike a lot of plants whose beauty lures in its prey, the Victoria Amazonica poses absolutely no physical threat to anyone... unless you use it for cosmetic purposes frequently, in which case you would experience its side effects."




Seren eyed the Victoria Amazonica one last time, before she moved onto the next tank.
"Now this is what we will be working with today", she said briefly, before taking a fistful of the sheet and uncovering the tank.

Inside the large tank was a complex of stubby long branches, growing in a horizontal fashion along the bottom of the tank. Its vivid purple colour reflecting on the glass.
"We are very fortunate, to have in our class today, Stubby Purple Coral," started Seren, eyeing each and evey one of the students.
"This plant, is currently in the top ten of the most endangered species of magical water plants- world wide. A herbologist I have had the pleasure of studying with, lives in Australia and has managed to get us this rare specimen." Yes, very lucky... so much red tape. But it was here now and it would be worth it.

"Now, our task for today will be to take cuttings from the Stubby Purple Coral and transplant them into new tanks. Hopefully we will be able to help save this magnificent species."

"Before we start however, what are some of the things Stubby Purple Coral is used for?" No doubt the students would have come across it or used it at some point.

Simon seemed to have regained his focus when the professor spoke again, pointing out their next item of interest. The rare and endangered Stubby Purple Coral. The seventh year thought back to what he had read in preparation for the semester's learning, finally raising his hand to answer. "Stubby purple coral can be used in potions to speed up the reactions of the potion's purpose," he replied lowering his hand and making a note to remember it for potions class.

Finishing up her notes on what she had heard in the lesson, Mina looked up and thought for a moment. Stubby Purple Coral was something she actually remembered. Thinking back to where she heard it last mention, she raised her hand. "It can be use in magical stain removal serums. It's works extremely will in removing dragon blood stain."

Kurumi's hand once again shot up in the air. "Stubby Purple Coral can be used as a speed enhancer in potions as well as in other areas. It's biological properties also help with speedy recoveries bu increasing metabolism and circulation." Kurumi set her hand down and looked at the tank and all the beautiful shades of purple. Despite the curse she had felt her eye color had brought her, Kurumi had always liked the color purple. Perhaps that had been her father's doing. He had always told her that violet was a color of royalty and that she should be proud that she had such a color naturally. "I suppose that this implies that the coral is rich in calcium and vitamin D." At least, she thought she had read somewhere that those lead to speedy recoveries.

Selina smiled at the Professor when she commented on Selina's previous answer. But then she started the official lesson and Selina went straight to attention. She had a lot of learning to do when it came to this subject. Thanks to Kurumi she had read a whole book on Herbology this summer but theoretical knowledge meant nothing without practical application.

"Ma'am I know that the stubby purple coral that they are aggressive and carnivorous to zoo plankton and the like. So perhaps they are used to cleanse certain ecosystems of pests?" It was a thought.

"Hmm.. ", Janet thought. She was sure she came across it on her Herbology textbook. Oh, now she remembered. Her hand shot to the air and she answered, "I think it can be used to help speed up recovery". She was grateful that she read her book the previous day. It turned out to be very useful. she just hoped she gave the right answer.

Ma'am Oakey started, I think it can be used in a persons diet, if eaten in tiny bit it could speed up a person blood flow. Hadn't Harvey done something like that. After he was injured. Oakey wasn't sure of what Harvey did to help him recover from his Quidditch accidents. This was a likely candidate.

Janice's hand went up. "It's a catalyst in chemical reaction, like in potions and chemis-" Then, it struck her mind,"-never mind, that is a Muggle School subject."

Her face was burning red.

Trying so hard, taking down notes as the class went about, Heather could just sigh. It seems she was having quite a grand difficult time in absorbing everything, not that she was distracted (since her scarf was still blocking her face), but there was just too much information to learn.

She loosened her scarf, so that her face wasn't constricted by the scarf, not minding if it was cold or not, and heard just in time, the next plant that professor Bentley introduced. It was a rare plant called Stubby Purple Coral and wow-it looked so pretty...but sadly endangered. WHY??

just then, Heather remembered reading about such plant; still hesitant, but wanting to recite, she raised her hand politely. "Professor..." she took a deep breath. "Stubby Purple Coral...is a used as...uhm...a main ingredient in magical stain removal serums...b-because it's the most effective in cleaning off d-dragon blood stains..."

Raising her hand and just scooting so she didn't have to raise her head from the desk she said, "I heard someone say it was used as a stain remover and that is true. It's most useful in removing dragon's blood stains, though." Yep.

Scooting back to where she was she looked at Salander and smiled. Yes, we heard her mention the Med. Hehe.

Dads too? Hmm... Lucas supposed that was a good point. Dads probably liked to cover their grays, as well.
He raised his hand again when the question about coral was posed. He actually knew this one! "I think it can be used in medicine to help people recover more quickly."

Nika slightly remembered skimming over something about coral in the text book. She tried remembering it, but unlike everyone else she seemed lost. Why is it that everyone remembers everything in the book word by word and Nika can't recall a single phrase? However one word did pop up into her brain, but she was having trouble placing it with other words. "Speedy." But speedy wasn't very specific at all. She thought hard trying to remember what she had read. "Speedy Recoveries!" She almost shouted her answer as she jumped in the air out of joy. YAY! She remembered!

Gwendolyn thought this time a little longer about her answer. 'I think it can be used to speed up recoverys.', she said a bit unsure. 'But then, has someone even made medicine (like pills) out of it?', she asked.

Ahh another water plant. And this one was purple! Helena liked purple.

Anyway, what is it used for? "It is one of the primary ingredients in some magical stain removal serums and really effective in removing dragon blood stains," the girl said after she raised her hand. And she knew this from her grandmother. Hehe.

Stubby Purple Coral ? I Cant Remember What that is . " Oh Yea ! " She Remembered . " The Stubby Purple Coral Is Dangerous to Harvest It would Land You In More trouble and Danger Than you would Really actually want to care for .

Lucy looked at the Stubby Purple Coral very carefull and tried to remember if she knew anything about this thing. She cincentrated a bit more hard as she thought there must be something and this plant she knew. Her face glow as she remembered one of the use of the plant. She raised her hand and said "Professor, it's the Stubby Purple Coral also used for medical purposes?" and put her hand down.

"My buttons!" He exclaimed when the professor revealed the next plant. This plant was indeed extremely rare, which made Eino very happy to have the chance to have access to it. In addition, it was also very difficult to care for it because it was so delicate and had demanded many requirements in order to keep it alive and healthy. This experience would never have been possible otherwise. "I do believe its Latin name is Coral Acropora Tenuis," He said with this hand raised, "and, in addition to what everyone else has said, this plant also supplies strontium, which aids bone growth." Although, strontium was only beneficial if taken in small doses, otherwise it could he harmful, which was probably way it wasn't used in Skele-Gro. Well, that and because it was extremely rare and difficult to maintain.

Seeing the eagle girl smile at her, Bissy smiled back. It was a shame for her to think that Ravies are nice people but they really were…



As Bissy heard Evelyn’s voice, she turned her head clenching her teeth. Knowing that the dark haired snake was in the classroom was irritating enough but hearing her speak was… Meh! Looking directly at the Evelyn, Bissy caught her eyes. She looked towards Josh and then, back at Ev. The blonde girl narrowed her eyes with an evil grin and smirked. Knowing Ev was sad had been a source of joy for Bissy. *grin*



Bissy listened to the professor carefully but she lost her concentration to some extent. Professor was okay, the class was okay (Flores was an exception of course), but the subject was a bit booooooring. However, she had to adapt herself to the lesson. She eyed the tank; it was a very nice shade of purple, which was Bissy’s favourite colour. The task was not a hard one, though. She would probably handle it. She raised her hand to answer the Professor’s question and said: “It can be consumed in small potions to lose weight, Professor and you can use it to treat metabolism disorders.” Hoping that was true she folded her arms and lokked at the Professor.

Aurora had seen it before but she had no idea what it was generally used for. "I used it in a potion once, it speeds up the fermenting process but it you use too much of it the potion can... out grow it's phial." she said, remembering how the whole of the potions room floor had been lilac for three weeks. "So I guess it speeds up things right? I don't know about it's effect on the human body though."

Zara was beginning to feel a bit dizzy, like she was going to faint. She didn't know why, maybe it was the scream that still echoed and rang in her ears or the smell that made her stomach twist inside. Hearing faintly the professor's question, she raised her hand weakly as her eyes really weren't focused on reality. Like she was spacing out. Still, she had to answer for the sake of everything she had promised herself. "Uh, it can be used in speeding up properties reactions in making potions."
