Rowan read the stories and became so engrossed she nearly forgot where she was. "Oh my gosh!" she said excitedly. "These are fantastic." She handed the book back to Ariana and said, "Will you let me read more as you write it? I can't wait to see what happens in both stories. You really are very talented."
occ: I wouldn't even think of it.
"Oh, thanks..." Ariana said, she really didn't take compliments well. "I've got more on the next page, it switches perspectives."

~~RACHEL~~
‘Ugh! I hate swimming!’ was my only thought as I trudged to the pool on the morning of my twelfth birthday. After changing into my swim suit, I hopped into the pool. The cold water surrounded me, and seemed to extinguish some spark in my soul.
I stood there, shivering, until the class lined up against the wall. Butterfly! I hate that stroke. I struggled through, the last person to make it to the other side, as usual. At least, that’s what I thought, until I saw a girl still in the middle of the pool. She was writhing underwater. Suddenly blood rose to the surface. A few seconds later, I heard a scream muffled by water, and the girl went limp, her light brown hair floating around her as she sank to the bottom of the pool.
The coach was blowing her whistle frantically, and she dived in. She then swam to the surface, gasping for air, with the girl in her arms. I stared at her floppy body. As I looked at the pale skin, closed eyes, and soaking wet hair, I caught a glimpse of webs between her fingers and toes. For a moment I thought I saw blue markings on her face.
The world seemed to stop, and a voice whispered in my head, ‘Arianna. Your dearest friend and greatest enemy, Fire mage.’ Then the world started again, and the noise and movement startled me. Suddenly, a wave of anger swept through me. How dare this girl, Arianna or whatever her name was, ruin my birthday! If not for her, I would have had to suffer through swimming, which isn’t really that bad, and then everything else would be fine. Instead, the whole school would be messed up for the rest of the day.
As I got angrier and angrier, I felt everything burst out of me. I heard a breaking noise, and the ground underneath me started cracking. A giant flame engulfed me. I felt its tickling, but no heat, just pleasant warmth. Somehow, though I was sopping wet, having just climbed out of the pool with everyone else, the fire managed to burn. I screamed and ran away, and the fire went out, leaving a black scorch mark where it had been burning. This time without the world stopping, the voice in my head said, ‘It is beginning,’
Ariana hastily changed the subject. "So, are you excited for school to start again?
"Oh you live in Scotland?" Lila asked. That was interesting. She'd never been outside of England before. "So you actually have to travel farther to get to the train station than to get to Hogwarts?" She figured he probably did it magically with floo powder or something but that still seemed a little be backwards.
"Aye, Tis a pain in the you-know-where. But they wouldna let me meet everyone in Hogsmeade. Me mum said tis a waste of floo powder, but what can be done?" He shrugged his shoulders. "Tha big tower over yan is me home." He pointed over to Corun Manor at Smailholm Tower. He looked for a moment feeling somewhat melancholy, wishing he was home.
"You too," Lila said, "I'm a decent flyer, so I like to fly. I dunno I'm good at wizard chess." Actually Lila couldn't help but think that she was decent at pretty much everything. She was a bit full of herself, but she couldn't help it if she was awesome. "How about you?" She asked.
"Thats cool, flying is fun. I used to fly with my brothers all the time, though I've never played wizard chess." Jade brushed the hair out of her face. "I love photography and I draw some." She thought some more. "I don't know, i'm pretty boring."
"Oh, well, just because I like to doesn't mean I can..." Ariana blushed. This just kept coming up, now didn't it? "I'm sure you're not that bad."
"I bet you can," Jaymie assured her. She made a face. "The best I can draw is a stick person. Whenever I try to draw a person, even a stick person, they have weird afro-like hair.

Elle sighed in relief as Cody turned down her brother's offer. She knew very well what would happen. Either Jacob would carry the trunk, stow it on the shelf and purposely make it fall down, causing the items inside to spill. It would seem like an accident that he would not feel sorry for. Then, he would leave the compartment, sneering. Or Jacob would just be a man and help Cody with his stuff.
Jacob shrugged, expression blank and turned back to his game of Wizarding Chess with Nikolas. BAM! One of Nikolas' Pawns were smashed by Jacob's Knight. Elle squeezed her brothers arm and muttered thanks.
She then turned back to Cody. "Do you collect Chocolate Frog Cards, by any chance?" the redhead stalked to the corner nearest the window to give Cody some space to stow his luggage. Elle held her breath, afraid that the answer would be a "no".
Cody managed to put his trunk up with no problem. He always remembered when he was in his second year he was so tiny that he had to get some else to help him put up his trunk. He was glad now he could do it now.
He saw Jacob and Nikolas playing Wizard Chess, Cody had only ever had played it once in his life.
"I've been collecting them since I was young. I have a fair few", he said. "What about you?", he asked. There seemed to be enough room in the compartment that Cody didn't say anything.

"Stick people rock! You know, they're going to take over someday." Somehow Ariana managed to say this with a straight face, though she wanted to crack up.

Isobel grinned. "That's so true. Some people think there will be a zombie apocalypse. But we know there will actually be a stick people apocalypse." She took a Fizzing Whisbee out of her candy tin and munched on it. "When do you think we'll get there?" With even more sugar she was practically bouncing out of her seat.

Wow. Rowan was so caught up in the story that it took her a moment to realize that her friend had asked her a question. "What? Oh. Yes. I can't wait to run into some friends, old ones and new ones," she smiled at the girl. "This is really fantastic," she said as she passed the book once more. "How about you?"

"They are, but maybe you will be in Ravenclaw too, with me." Rowan thought about telling the girl that Ravenclaw was the best in her opinion but decided against it.
Cody managed to put his trunk up with no problem. He always remembered when he was in his second year he was so tiny that he had to get some else to help him put up his trunk. He was glad now he could do it now.

Elle's eyes grew wider. "You collect them? That's great! I do too," she beamed.
"Well... umm... do you mind if we trade some?" she brought out her stack out of her purse and laid them on the seat. "I've always been waiting for Circe."
Seeing some students pass by already in their uniforms, Elle grabbed her duffel bag from the shelf, slung it on her shoulder and said hurriedly, "Blimey, I have to go change. See you in a few, Cody!" She sped out of the compartment and headed straight for the girl's water closet.
--after a few short minutes--
The door slid open as Elle entered, already in her Hogwarts uniform. Her red hair was in a neat ponytail this time. "Hey Cody, sorry I took long. Need any card?" she gestured at the Chocolate Frog cards. She unlocked her trunk, stuffed the duffel bag inside, took out her wand and charmed it locked.
---later on...---
"I think we better get going now, Cody. We don't want to be late for the Great Feast now, do we?" she smiled. "Anyway, see you at the Great Hall. Enjoy your dinner!" Elle's brothers had returned to their compartment and helped put down her trunk. She dragged her own luggage this time, waved farewell to Cody and left the compartment.
Simon wasn't aware of his companion's thoughts and it was probably a good thing since he'd likely be unnerving at this point. His own opinions of Kyle still unclear as they grew closer as friends and fellow classmates. He smiled back however as she had turned to spot him about to assist before letting her be, the captain pretending to be innoscent of anything as they relaxed into their journey once the train slowly drifted on its way.
"Even knowing him and what happened, one cant be sure whether he was ever actually scared. Though I know I myself would have been even with supposed Gryffindor courage," he admitted leaning back. Being courageuous was one thing... acting unafraid in front of an escapeable or avoided danger wasn't the best use of it.
She nodded, knowing even though he was a Gryffindor and was 'brave' as Gryffindors were supposed to be. Sometimes, it was brave of you to feel the fear in situations where you knew, deep down weren't safe. She smiled. Running her hand through her hair, her little somewhat nervous move and also her move to get her hair out of her face. Which with the constant jostling of the train it had started, like usual, to fall into her face.
"I think i'd be scared too" she admitted, as she looked to the ground.
"So - random question really, well sort of...do you think Headmaster Tate will say something about you know - not dying in the opening feast this term?" She asked, biting her lip slightly. The last speech had left her a bit shocked - don't die was a brilliant thing to say - but it seemed there were people who liked to challenge that all the time.
