Default Defense Training Room

Because the Headmaster has no use for a second office, he has re-purposed this room for an entirely different use. The room is larger than it should be; the fact that Tate reduced a wall into an adjoining room is obvious by the fact that his ‘office’ has two doors along the same long wall. Rather than leaving an empty office or reinventing the standard dueling area, the room now serves as a training facility for those with an interest in Defense and Defense related careers: Aurors, Hit Wizards, and the International Task Force (among others).

The two windows in the room face out over an inner courtyard and let in tree-filtered light throughout the day. Beside one such window, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves have been stuffed full of countless Defense texts. The titles range from ancient tomes in spidery indecipherable scripts to glossy hardcovers featuring some of the premiere Defensive authors of the day. The long table is conducive for transcribing notes from the various books, but there are also a few deep chairs pushed together for general reading or quiet conversation. There is a sign posted on the bookshelf.

Along the opposite wall, leading from the far door halfway to the window, Tate has set up various pieces of exercise equipment, intending for those interested in pursuing a Defensive career to develop themselves physically as well as mentally. A punching bag is suspended from the ceiling in the corner, sitting beside a stand of free weights and other odds and ends, mats and exercise balls and the like. Stretching along the remainder of the space to the window is an enormous climbing wall, complete with hand and foot holds all the way up to the ceiling. There are no ropes, but the floor is generously cushioned with a charm.

Between the two windows sit a series of padded dummies, perfect for any dueling practice needed for class or just to be used in the process of learning new spells. Drag one or two out and practice. Either of the windows onto the courtyard may be opened and, weather permitting, training can extend into this open space. Try not to kill and trees or squirrels in the process.

A small flick deflected the tooth enlargement hex. She did not want gigantic teeth, even if she would still be hot with them. Really, it would take a lot to make her look anything but hot.

In a sweeping motion, she moved the shield so that it blocked duro, taking a few steps to the side as well. Dropping the shield, she flicked her wand at the man, sending a knee-reversing hex his way. It was a little difficult to think of spells that weren't so....extreme in there actions.

She mentally went through her list of spells before deciding on one she hadn't used in a while. Twitchy ears hex was always an interesting one to use on those who attempted to listen in on her private conversations.

The problem with silent spellcasting was that Raiden was never quite sure what was coming at him. There were a few spells that he was sure of, from colour and direction. However, what Sandra was casting, he had no clue. Which meant that it could potentially be very bad for him in this duel, sooooo.

The slightest of motions brought up a shield, slightly larger than the last, and as the first spell was blocked, he ducked to the side, not as graceless as one would expect from the rather tall (and to his own mind, slightly awkward) young man. The twitchy ears passed him by, but he also had to take another step or two back away from the mist. Didn't want to get caught in that.

"Entomorphis," he murmured, voice barely audible as he corrected his stance, wand held up in case she'd sent anything else at him.

Silently, he followed with a Tarantallegra, albeit from a bit of an odd angle. Had to get rid of that mist or something... Merrrrr.

Aleksandra had quickly come to a few conclusions when the duel had begun. While dueling was something she practiced faithfully, that didn't seem to be the case with Raiden. Just like Sabel, he was being careful to avoid the mist, not to mention a few other actions that caused her to believe he didn't duel daily like her.

It was possible she was wrong in her assumptions, but she was sure that it had something to do with the difference in teaching styles with their respective professors.

A simple flick deflected the hex, and sent it back to Raiden. She barely missed the second spell, stepping into the mist as is scraped by her. Having used it in numerous duels, she was unphased by its effect, but her steps were more careful.

Deciding that she would help him 'practice' his dueling more, she started with his barely audible murmurs. Preforming a few wand movements that, if hitting him, would transfigure his tongue into a horn. Or at least make it as hard as one.

Was... was she stepping into the mist?? Raiden stared, very nearly getting caught by his own hex hurling back at him. Eyes widening slightly as it shot back, he managed to get a shield up, not bothering to focus it and instead throwing it up fully this time.

Which was good because whatever she'd just thrown at him, he was sure he didn't want. The spell knocked the shield out though, and he skidded back about a foot from the force of it.

Hmm. He'd have to try harder.

Since she was in the mist, he sent a silent Glisseo at the floor beneath her, following up with a trip jinx or two, just in case.

He very nearly followed it up with one more, but he was too busy making sure he was out of her way and wouldn't get caught by anything she sent his way. Or the mist. Didn't want to be in the mist, as much as she seemed to be okay in it.

No, he definanlty wasn't used to the mist. His expression when she stepped into said mist had clarified that fact for her. Again his reaction didn't surprise her, as Sabel had done everything to avoid the mist, like Raiden was doing now, when he dueled Danika.

She would have to get him into the mist somehow. Hm.

Being one who was skilled in non-verbal casting, preferring it over speaking her spells, she easily recognized the spell that Raiden had sent. As comfortable as she was in the mist, glisseo just didn't go well with it. Not one bit.

She took a careful but quick step back, making to move out of the mist and musing over how to remove the glisseo without removing the mist. She quickly regretted her actions as the trip over one of his jinxes.

And she was sliding. Just lovely. Blink rapidly as she readjusted to the mist, she sent a confundus charm his way, and spun so that she was on her knees. Aim not so true as she was more focused on ceasing her sliding. And returning to a standing position.

Being on your knees in a duel was not good.

And that was why he didn't wanna be in the mist. Because beside the fact that he'd probably end up floating in the air, unable to figure out how to get his feet back under him, or something. He watched as she tripped, slipped, and just narrowly managed to get off a minor spell to deflect her Confunding attempt. Both spells skewed off as they collided in the air, hers spinning off into one of the dummies and his finding a home in the wall.

Part of him felt a bit bad about casting while she was in the mist, and sliding on her knees, but it was a duel. No hesitating.

Well maybe for a second, but then he flicked his wand again. A silent Expelliarmus was first, an obvious spell, but followed almost immediately with an Obscuro.

Merlin help him if she got through the mist and to him. He took another step back, unsure.

She didn't even attempt to move from her knees to her feet while still in the mist and sliding. That just had disaster written all over it. She had a sore bum, she didn't need a sore anything else.

Her current predicament also didn't help her analyze his wand movements to see what spells he was casting, though she soon found out when her wand went flying out of her hand. Hand still outstretched, she summoned it back just as soon as she had lost it.

Not quick enough to block the second spell though, as her vision was soon obscured. Good thing it was her and not Danika else this would not end well for him. Didn't hinder her much though as she already didn't have good aim while sliding in the mist.

A few quick wand movements, and she cast some black birds, sending them after the young man. After which she cast a few trip jinxes hopefully in the same place she last saw him. Hard to tell when she was blinded and in motion. She was still moving through the mist...she had to be almost out though, right?

Oh man, he thought he'd had it for a second there. Her wand had gone flying, and he'd thought she was done then, stuck in the mist on her knees and sliding. But then...

Birdsssssss. Raiden's eyes widened slightly and he half-mumbled 'Immobulus', giving a flick at them. A few were caught, but two of the birds managed to get to him, and he ducked, trying to get out of their way.

Which also meant his ankle got caught up by a trip jinx.

Which meant he stumbled forward quite a bit, left hand brushing against the floor and catching his weight before he could fall flat on his face. Flat on his face was not a good thing in a duel.

Nor was being in the mist. Which he kinda was, a little bit, now. Freezing immediately, eyes snapping up to where she was still sliding, he flicked off a jelly-fingers jinx. That was all he managed to get off, because she was like right there and Merlin help him he had to get out of her way and out of the mist.

The whole bit with him fending off the birds and stumbling into the mist went unnoticed by her as she was still blind folded. A simple finite solved that problem though, and all she had to worry about was.....some spell flying her way. A quick flick of her wand sent the spell to the walls.

She didn't have any time to attack, or even realize that he was finally in the mist with her because she was sliding right towards him. She had realized this before, but wasn't able to do anything about it because of her mist combined with his glisseo. That only lead to one thing.

Hellooo collision.

Merlin. MerlinMerlinMerlin. Raiden had taken a tentative half-step back, trying to figure out just how this mist worked; he'd seen it before, sure, but he couldn't remember ever having been in it, and who knew how it would react to any of his movement.

He took another quick step back as she got closer, felt one of his feet going on his own Glisseo, and swore just before she collided with him.

Oof.

Fortunately for him, that was enough to knock him backwards, out of the mist. Unfortunately, it had also been enough to separate his feet from the floor, which meant that when he'd gotten out of the mist, his own weight had immediately turned against him, and he stumbled backwards and ended up falling.

Rather than stop himself with his both hands, he let his left try to stop him from rolling onto his back and swung his right toward her, casting a knockback jinx almost automatically. Didn't want her this close, especially with him on the floor as well.

Go back into the mist, Miss Aleksandra.

Out of the mist and off of the glisseo that Merlin. She was beginning to get a bit dizzy being in there with the slippery floor. Colliding with him, wasn't so much fun. Though had they not been dueling then its possible she wouldn't have minded the collision one bit.

But they were dueling, and Sandra was never comfortable being this close to her opponent or in this case, her dueling partner. It made it more difficult to block spells, like the one he was casting at her. Almost wildly, as she was still on her hands and knees, she put up her shield.

It only stayed up long enough to block the spell before her wand was trained on the floor beneath the mist. The glisseo had to go. Once it had gone, she quickly moved to her feet and started walking backwards into the mist, sending a couple more trip jinxes his way to keep him on the ground and adding a stinging hex for good measure.

Ah crap. Raiden had been in the process of pushing himself to his feet when she caught him in the ankle with another trip jinx; back on the floor he went, and the stinging hex caught him in the shin. Wincing, left hand grabbing at the spot automatically to rub the stinging out, as most people would usually react, he threw a Locomotor Mortis her way.

"Ventus." This spell was directed not at her, but at the floor in front of him. There were still trip jinxes and he was not getting caught in one again; the strong stream of air pushed him backwards on the floor, a few feet back, before he pushed himself hurriedly to his feet, obviously favouring his right leg a bit as her stinging hex had kinda really hurt.

This was actually kinda... fun. The boy was breathing a bit faster, from the collision and pain in his shin, but he was still almost grinning.

Her steps were quick but careful as she walked backwards through the mist. Her breath coming out in a steady, controlled rhythm, though it was obvious that she was slightly winded by the collision and all the scrambling she had just done. He was doing a good job of helping her burn off some energy.

A quick flick blocked the spell he cast at her as she continued to walk through the mist, putting more space between them. He was....smiling. Odd. Had he been anyone else, she would have been worried by his facial expression, but seeing how he wasn't much danger to her, she simply let her thoughts pass. Her own expression remaining stoic.

Taking advantage of how he seemed slightly distracted, at least that's what she gathered by his expression, she animated two dummies behind him. They would really do anything that would harm him, Just move to him and make a Raiden sandwich.

In most cases, he wouldn't have thought anything of the spell that she seemed to cast past him on purpose. But considering who he was duelling... Raiden shot a glance over his shoulder, breaking his own rule about looking away from his duelling partner. Good thing too, because apparently she'd...

Ah.

Sucking in a sharp breath, he flicked a quick shot at one dummy, knocking it backwards and into the wall before it fell onto its chest. The other one, however, he wasn't quite quick enough to get to, and it grabbed his upper arm with its own spongy limbs.

Shoot.

Jerking against the thing's hold, he looked at Aleksandra, eyes wide. It shouldn't be able to hold onto his arm so well, what with it not having actual hands or fingers, just (normally) limp arms. Unfortunately it had made up for that by wrapping around his arm tightly, several times. MERRRR.

Not done yet. Not. Not without difficulty, since the thing was kinda tugging and pulling a bit while tightening its grip, he cast a silent Steleus in her direction, and then directed his wand at the floor and casting a quick Deprimo between them.

Distractions as he tugged at the dummy arms to loose his own.

The dummies had served their purpose in distracting Raiden. Even if only one had reached him. He had looked away and she used that time to continued to make her way out of the mist, it was going to get to her soon having been in it too long.

But what was...? Ah. Crap. She had seen the spell coming, but was too focused on attempting to send another dummy his way to notice the sneezing hex. Going into a fit of sneezes, she threw up her shield to block the debris from his second spell. The force of it knocking her back a few steps, and out of the mist.

Back where she started.

A quick tickling charm was sent his way before she cast on herself, the sneezing just had to stop.

Get. Off. GET OFF. Raiden jerked his arm a few more times, but did not succeed in dislodging the damn thing from his person; indeed, it seemed to tighten its grip a bit more, freakish arms twisting their way down his own to try and grab his wand.

He couldn't cast at it from this angle. So he did the only thing he could think to do. Switching his wand to his left hand, he muttered a few diffindos in quick succession, and the dummy's arms were torn right off its body, which he immediately spun and shoved toward the stupid mist.

Good thing, too, because it took the tickling spell she'd just shot off at him. The spell stopped its movement and it tumbled over backwards toward him, making him sidestep to keep out of its way.

He wasn't going to lose because of a dummy. Immediately swapping his wand back to his dominant hand, he fired off a Confundus charm in her direction, not caring if it was even close to hitting her because it was really just for him to get a chance to regain his faculties.

And he followed up with a silent, better aimed Levicorpus.

Sandra almost thought that she would get to destroy a dummy when the one that was attacking Raiden came flying through the mist. She already had a spell in mind when her own tickling charm had hit the dummy and sent it flying back to Raiden.

Almost absently she deflected the Confundus charm, sending it back to it's caster and adding jelly legs jinx along with it for good measure. The Levicorpus would have been easily blocked had she not stumbled over a piece of debris.

She could feel herself going up into the air by her ankles. She didn't like it one bit. Not phased by her hanging upside down, she peppered him with a few more stinging hexes, ones not as strong as the one that had hit him before.

Let. Her. Down. Raiden.

Nu-uh. Not gonna hit him with his own spell. The boy side-stepped the Confundus, intent on keeping his wand on her to keep her in the air. Unfortunately there wasn't much he could do to get out of the way of the second; his left leg went all wiggly, which was just wonderful because he'd already been ginger on his right.

Wobbling, he put all his weight on his right, and immediately felt the stinging in his shin presenting itself again.

Damnit, more stinging hexes. He was forced to let go of the spell he was holding on her; however, he immediately shot off a stupefy, following it immediately with an incarcerous as he fell to the right. His left arm took one or two of the stinging hexes as he dropped to the floor, a belated shield saving him the rest.

But now he was on the floor, and that was never good, especially if neither of his spells hit.

She had been so intent on getting him to drop her, that she hadn't thought to cast a cushioning charm in the mist of her other spells. She didn't mind the sensation of being upside down, so long as she wasn't actually upside down.

It didn't seem to take long for him to drop her, but he was also quick in casting at her while she fell, and she was hit by the stunner. The force of the spell, thankfully knocked her out of the way of the incarcerous as she landed on the floor. Hard.

Owwww. The spell and fall combined hurt like hell. Not to mention he half of her in the mist, so she partially felt like she was still in the air. Disoriented from her fall, she moved her body from out of the mist.

She would send something at him, soon....

This wiggly leg thing was... kinda gross and annoying. Eyes flicking down toward it momentarily, he tapped it at the knee and muttered 'Finite Incantatum' under his breath. He looked up just in time to see her crash to the floor, having taken at least one of his spells.

The stunner, since she wasn't currently tied up. Apparently he hadn't gotten it off with a lot of force, because she was still moving. Wasn't surprising, considering what had been happening just then...

Pushing himself up off the floor, and stumbling a bit to one side as his right shin gave a throb, he gave his wand a flick and cleared the mist away with a silent 'finite'.

"Aleksandra?" Stepping closer to her, steps uneven and expression full of worry, he tilted his head and tried to give her an appraising look. "I think... I think we're done."

He'd dropped her on her head. And Stunned her. Among other things. Still, his wand was held in his right hand. Who knew if she was really done, after all.

"Are you okay?"

Her head hurt like hell. Being dropped on it tended to do that to a person. Sandra's hand moved from rubbing her temple to pulling the hair tie, hair falling over her shoulders as she removed the tight bun. It released some of the tension in her head, but none of the pain.

She had all but forgotten about Raiden until he moved closer to her, and even though his steps weren't threatening, she it didn't stop her from swinging her left hand around and training her wand on the young man.

As far as she was concerned, the duel was not over.

There was no blood, and both duelers were conscious. Blinking rapidly, she looked up at him dazed and confused. What?

"Where not done." The grip on her wand never loosened, but she let it move away from him to flick over to another spot away from her. Obviously indicating that he should move away from her and prepare for round two.

Rubbing her head again, she shook it, which didn't help matters.

"Just a headache."

Did she... did she really intend to continue on with this? Raiden frowned, face laced with concern. She'd fallen on her head and taken a Stunner. She looked rather worse for wear at the moment, at least considering how she'd looked when she'd come in...

"Aleksandra... I don't think that's a good idea." He'd frozen when she'd pointed her wand at him, right hand tight around his own and prepared to shield should he need to... but apparently she wasn't going to cast at him just yet? "I don't know if I can cast against you anymore... I dropped you, and you're obviously hurt..."

They'd said no killing or maiming, and they were far from that, but he also didn't want to concuss her or cut her up or something. Still... he stepped away, as she wanted him to. If she didn't want him near her, then he wouldn't stand too close. After all, she was still conscious, and she'd possibly still cast against him...

"Don't-" Left hand raised automatically as she shook her head. "That won't help..."

He paused.

"Maybe... maybe we should take a little break? And then, if you feel better, we can go on after a little while?"

Better than letting her go on while she was all... er... like this.

Her hand gently ran through her hair until she found the spot that had made contact with the floor when he dropped her. Wincing slightly when she did, but not removing her hand, she needed to evaluate her injuries.

He couldn't cast on her anymore...did she injure him worse than she thought. Sparing him a fleeting glace, she appraised him. No, he was just worried about her. "I'm not bleeding, Raiden......nothing is broken....I've just got..." The headache from hell.

There was the slightest possibility that it was worse than a headache, but it was nothing compared to the injuries she'd had in the past.

A break. Hm.

After a moment of contemplation, difficult with her throbbing head, she looked back up at him from her position on the floor. Her grip loosening on her wand a indication that she agreed, no more head shaking in any direction.

"Ve can take a break...." At least while she...attempted to gather some of her thoughts. It still hadn't occurred to her that the mist was gone.

He was worried she wouldn't accept it, and was pleased when she finally did. Relieved, he stepped closer again and held out his left hand to her, to help her up.

"...sorry about that. Normally I wouldn't want to drop you... least not quite so hard. You sure you're okay?"

Being a Hogwarts student, Raiden had seen many a classmate take some blow or another to the head. The school was full of accident-prone students, and some tended to be rather fragile. He'd seen more than one go completely limp at the slightest tap, or anything with far less force than she'd had when colliding with the floor.

Breakable creatures, Hogwarts students were. Who knew quite how similar Aleksandra and her classmates could be.

She did have to get off the floor, didn't she?

Slowly removing her right hand from her hair, she gladly accepted his, and allowed him to help her up. Sloooowly. Didn't need any more throbbing in her head now that it seemed to be lessening.

"Normally you vould have vent easy on me?" She retorted, right hand finding its way back into her hair as her eyes drifted over where the mist once was. There may have been a hint of amusement in her voice.

For the most part, she hadn't gone easy on him. They had agreed on no maiming or anything that would make them incapable of competing in the next task, so she had to eliminate dozens of spells, but she didn't go easy on him.

"I've had worse," Much worse. There was so many things he could have done to her while she was in the air. She'd much rather been dropped "I'm fine, you don't have to apologize." She wasn't, they had been dueling. Accidents happen in duels.

"Are you fine?" She hadn't dropped him, but she did hit him with a few stinging hexes.
