Because the Headmaster has no use for a second office, he has re-purposed this room for an entirely different use. The room is larger than it should be; the fact that Tate reduced a wall into an adjoining room is obvious by the fact that his ‘office’ has two doors along the same long wall. Rather than leaving an empty office or reinventing the standard dueling area, the room now serves as a training facility for those with an interest in Defense and Defense related careers: Aurors, Hit Wizards, and the International Task Force (among others).
The two windows in the room face out over an inner courtyard and let in tree-filtered light throughout the day. Beside one such window, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves have been stuffed full of countless Defense texts. The titles range from ancient tomes in spidery indecipherable scripts to glossy hardcovers featuring some of the premiere Defensive authors of the day. The long table is conducive for transcribing notes from the various books, but there are also a few deep chairs pushed together for general reading or quiet conversation. There is a sign posted on the bookshelf. Quote:

A punching bag is suspended from the ceiling in the corner, sitting beside a stand of free weights and other odds and ends, mats and exercise balls and the like. Stretching along the remainder of the space to the window is an enormous climbing wall, complete with hand and foot holds all the way up to the ceiling. There are no ropes, but the floor is generously cushioned with a charm.
Between the two windows sit a series of padded dummies, perfect for any dueling practice needed for class or just to be used in the process of learning new spells. Drag one or two out and practice. Either of the windows onto the courtyard may be opened and, weather permitting, training can extend into this open space. Try not to kill and trees or squirrels in the process. Quote:

An ice cape made the process less tedious. All that was needed was a clasp and shoulder breadth to match the build Kellen had scuplted, which he did his best working on. "A really big buckle? Is the Headmaster to be the new Superman?" Except...without the tights.

Kellen sighed, "Your Muggle-hero references go beyond my poor pureblood understanding, Sabel, you know that. Pity me." But he knew of some comic book heroes, if not by name, and so gave the sculpture bigger pants than he would have done. There. Pants were easy to do when they weren't dress pants or anything like that. "And now for the school crest." He knelt down and began shaping the box on which the snow-Tate's foot rested. |

"One day Kellen, when your Ravenclaw beak isn't stuck in a school book, I'm going to shove some good muggle literature in your face." He wouldn't mention the specific ones in mind, not really caring for another snowball to the face, back or other appendage.
Finishing off with the shoulders, he squatted at the back of what was starting to become the crest and worked on that side, taking a brief appraisal of the full statue. "I like your garment choice."

"I already watched the movies," Kellen protested, knowing full well what Sabel was referring to, "all three of them. And I'll have you know, it's my Ravenclaw brain that's the reason I remember the school crest without having to look at a reference."
It took a lot of concentration, far more than working on the rest of the statue, to get his gouging lines small enough to actually do the complexity of the design. And well... his art still left something to be desired, but it was clear enough that the Hogwarts Crest was recognizable. He wondered how Sabel's side was going. |

"There's a difference between watching the movies and reading the books. A big difference." Frowning, he made a small poke of his wand at the crest with Kellen's mention of it. He had a very good, valid point. The general design he knew, but the rest of it...it was fair to say his appeared like a first year's impression of the crest. "Urrr...Kellen...speaking of that, maybe you want to...uhm..." He simply pointed at the side he was working on. "Would you mind before I turn it into something that I do know." Which at this point was looking to be Elvish.

"Yeah, you keep saying that, but I'm not ready to commit to ten thousand pages quite yet." Kellen shuffled over to where Sabel was pointing. Really, he didn't see a problem with the artwork; it was just the lettering. That was a quick fix, and then he stood up and stretched, "Done. Wait, not yet."
He grabbed Sabel's arm and led the Gryffindor back to the front of the sculpture so they could look up at it, "So, would you like to do the cape? Then we can ice the rest so it'll last longer." |

A slow breath left him as he let Kellen lead him back to the front. All in all, for their artistic skill, or lack thereof, it was an impression to be proud of. "I think...we both should. Start from the right, I'll start from the left?"

Unless they wanted some bizarre, Picasso-but-not face. He could probably manage that. "Sounds like a plan." After moving around behind the statue once more, he gave a flick of his wand and ice began to form where he directed it. A ripply, long cape of awesome that would catch the sunlight and not melt until at least March. Perfect. |

Not wanting to have a double edged cape as it was, he waited until Kellen started casting the ice to see what exactly he would shape it as. When he got an idea of the epic, awesome proportions that would result, he copied on his side, working to meet in the middle.

So attuned were they in their casting, or at least Kellen liked to think so, that the two halves of the cape met without a glitch, a gap, or a crack. He polished the whole thing off with a triumphant casting of, "Glacius!"
A minute was spent admiring their work, before he poked Sabel in the shoulder and reminded him, "Patronus spell. Can we go inside and learn it now, please?" |

When it was finished, without the whole thing breaking in a disastrous mess, he let out a slow breath. They had accomplished something rather fantastical. Almost like their Christmas gift to Hogwarts.
So when Kellen mentioned Patronus, he had to blink a couple times to remember. How long had they been out here working on SnowTate? "How about, some food first?" Because he was actually feeling hungry, and casting on an empty stomach wasn't very effective.

Sabel barely had the 'foo-' out before Kellen interjected with, "I could eat." He could; always. Maybe it was all the concentration exercises, or maybe he was getting ready for a growth spurt. Either way, food was always welcome in the mouth and stomach of Kellen Stern, "Lead on, Mr. Dakest."
They could work on the spell after. Full stomachs, and all that. |

Trust Kellen to agree to food 24/7, rain, snow or sun. It seemed to be his friend's solution for everything and one he would have to remember.

The prefect slipped into the defence room quietly, absently popping his wand in and out of his wrist holster as he walked. Each time there was less and less force behind the flick; as he stepped closer to the dummies, one would probably scarcely notice the movement that set his wand into his hand.
He'd gotten good at it.
Head tilting to one side, he considered the dummies for a moment. As much as he needed practise, he really didn't feel like using one of these. They wouldn't counter, they wouldn't really force him to think on his feet. They'd... simply take it. Hrrrrrm.
Walking past the fitness equipment, one leg absently turning in a practised kick to the punching bag as he passed it, Raiden moved toward the bookshelves and snatched one at random before sinking into one of the deep reading chairs. He could wait for someone to come along. If it didn't happen soon... well, then he'd just have play with the dummies after all. |

The first thing the woman did when quietly entering the defense room was to let her eyes drift over to where the duel between Sabel and Danika had transpired. An amusing duel to say the least that hadn't really ended well. No one had been seriously injured though, so she guessed that was all that mattered.
She needed to release some pent up energy, and not being able to find her snogging partners, decided that dueling was the next best thing. Sure, she didn't have anyone to duel against, but she could always destroy a few dummies for the hell of it.
Absently her eyes glided around the room, and landed on its sole occupant. "Raiden..." She hadn't expected to find him, or anyone in the room, but it didn't surprise her. A faint smile crossed her face as she ambled over to where he was, eyes flicking to his book. "Vhat are you studying?"

| ♥Dunkin | Pixie's Precious Pea | kpop goddess | sneaky sounder | forever slytherin♥ This book wasn't really that interesting. At all. At least not for him... this was defence stuff he'd picked up when he was younger, or at least knew already. Turning pages absently, he searched for something, anything, that he hadn't read about or tried out already. Maybe he should've taken time to pick a book rather than just pulling one from the shelf...
Eyes turned up automatically at the voice, and he paused mid page-flip. Aleksandra... hmm. Maybeeeee she was up for duelling?
"Nothing remotely interesting," he said, his tone tinged ever so slightly with mock mourning. "Was just flicking through and reacquainting myself with old material while waiting for... well pretty much anyone."
Anyone that wasn't like, a fourth year or below, really. He'd done enough casting at kids in Defence class with Duskurk.
"What are you up to?"
She wasn't holding a book. He was a bit hopeful, because of that. Maybe she was here for the same reasons as he. |

The corners of her lips twitched, faint smile growing when he responded. He was waiting for anyone, well....she was more than an anyone, but why was he waiting for anyone. Her hazel eyes flicked to the book again, quickly scanning the pages. She wasn't one for rereading old dueling material unless it was something more advanced.
Shrugging her shoulders lightly, she glanced over where the dummies stood, begging to be torn to shreds. "Just came to release some energy.....figured I'd mess vith one of the dummies." Maybe even mess with the workout equipment if she dared. "Vhy are you vaiting for someone?" Or was waiting for someone, seeing how she was here now.

| ♥Dunkin | Pixie's Precious Pea | kpop goddess | sneaky sounder | forever slytherin♥ Idly, Raiden picked up a large chunk of pages and flipped it, turning to what was possibly the last chapter in the book. Eyes scanned the page momentarily, but it wasn't much better. Closing the book quietly, he sent it flying back onto the shelf with a gentle flick of his wand, watching it slide easily into the place he'd pulled it from. Didn't want that one. Nope.
Release some energy, huh? Raiden grinned.
"The dummies aren't as... er, engaging as I felt like having when I came in here." His grin turned into a bit of a smirk and he gestured toward them with his wand. "I was waiting for someone who... hm. I wanted a bit of practise." Pausing, his eyes turned back to Aleksandra. "I wonder if I could help you burn that energy? I'm told I'm fairly good at that, sometimes."
And she could help him get in some practise, maybe? That would be awesome, yes. |

Sandra let her eyes follow the book as it flew back to the bookcase, and scan a few others disinterestedly. Some seemed like books she might consider reading at a later time, but she had done her fair share of reading books a few hours ago. Now she wanted to be phonically active.
An eyebrow quirked up at his grin, did he find her reason for being in the room amusing?
And now he was smirking. Hm. Her eyes wondered over to the dummies. They didn't seem too engaging, and she briefly considered animating them but knew it wouldn't provide much stimulation.
Now she was smirking as her eyes drifted back to him. He wanted a bit of practice, eh? She considered his offering for a quick moment. He was much more engaging than a few dummies, and he was of as age as well. Not to mention a Champion. Surely that meant he was at least a fair dueler. "You may help," She responded, smirk still playing on her lips as she nodded. "But I von't be going easy on you." So wasn't her style.

| ♥Dunkin | Pixie's Precious Pea | kpop goddess | sneaky sounder | forever slytherin♥ Score. Raiden had been hoping someone would come along to duel with him, and Aleksandra was sure to fill that need wonderfully. What with her being close to his age, and a Champion, as well as probably very well educated from Durmstrang. This was excellent.
Heh. Pushing himself out of the chair, the prefect pressed his wand back into his holster and took a few steps, putting himself closer to her. Leaning down slightly, his face closer to on level with hers as he was a fair few inches taller, he let his smirk widen slightly. He actually looked rather happy, though he wouldn't call it that. Excitement. That was closer.
"Nobody asked you to," he murmured, before taking a step around her. As he passed by her ear, he added, "Wouldn't learn much of anything that way."
Turning as he passed her, he walked a few steps backwards, toward the more open area. You know, where deflected and dodged spells wouldn't destroy the surrounding objects.
"I wouldn't go easy on you, either."
Did she still wanna play? |

Her smirk dared to widen as he moved closer to her, head tilting up a bit to keep eye contact. It wasn't often that someone was excited about dueling her, even if they were close in age. He had never seen her duel though, didn't know what to expect. So instead of being surprised by his demeanor, she was simply amused.
Crossing her arms, her eyes followed him as she moved around her. Slowly she turned her body to face him as he walked backwards to where they would be dueling.
Heh. Now he was just being funny. "Nobody asked you to." She took a few slow steps towards the Raiden and the dueling area. Almost as if she was reconsidering dueling him, but really? She wanted to see what he had. "Any rules I need to knov before ve begin?"

| ♥Dunkin | Pixie's Precious Pea | kpop goddess | sneaky sounder | forever slytherin♥ Hmmm. Rules? Truebridge's class on Code Duello flooded back. What were the basic rules he'd chosen then? Would they still be the same now?
"I think it goes without saying but... just don't kill or maim me." His expression was light, but really, that was the only thing that needed to be observed. "We've both got the tournament to do us up, after all. No point in getting so wrecked during a duel that we can't compete."
He was sure neither of them wished to see the other looking like the champions that had come out of the cave after they had. Plenty of chances for that when the task came up.
"If you like." He gestured for her to begin; the vaguest of twitches set his wand easily into his right hand. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Aleksandra Nadezhda Miroslav Seventh Year |
So, no dark magic. She could work with that, they were only burning off energy. Well.....she was burning off excess energy. He was practicing. She had no intentions of maiming him any way, he was way to hot to even thing of doing such a thing.
She stopped walking when she reached the area, keeping a good amount of space between them. Nodding in agreement to his terms as she absently pulled her hair into a tight bun. They did both have the tournament, and she injured to the point where she could compete. That was her sole reason for coming to Hogwarts.
Giving her wrist an imperceptible flick, she preformed an intricate wand movement, silently casting an anti-gravity mist between them. This should keep things interesting since they weren't casting anything too dangerous.
Mist now between them, she gave a simple flourish of her wand, sending a knockback jinx at the prefect.

| ♥Dunkin | Pixie's Precious Pea | kpop goddess | sneaky sounder | forever slytherin♥ Ahhh. Raiden took a half a step back, just to be sure that he wasn't going to get caught in the edge of that mist. It had been a while since he'd seen that used. Which probably just meant that it really had been forever since he'd watched a duel, much less participated in one...
A silent flick of his wand brought up a small shield, just big enough to block the knockback jinx; it had also been a while since he'd actually focused his shield so that it only protected the parts of him that needed it. This was good practise, already.
"Densaugeo," he murmured quietly, the shield fading immediately as a jet of light shot from his wand toward her. Without calling the incantation, he altered his aim slightly and pointed at her feet, a silent Duro following after the first hex.
He wondered if Aleksandra would still look hot with gigantic buck teeth. |
