Emmy's babbling had been rather amusing to Ling while he traced his lithe fingers against the wand hanging out of his cloak. Did she really think he was going to take her seriously after the crap she had pulled the past few months? He had grown weary of her explanations, as entertaining as they were. Evidently, the girl had not learned how to mature yet and he decided that he wasn't going to waste too much time conversing with her. He could think of many more enticing scenarios instead of talking to her right now.

Perhaps inventing a few hexes and sketching them down. He considered himself to be a dark wizard in training and while he hadn't told anybody that yet, it was obvious from the way he carried himself and the filthy smirks that reappeared again and again on his face.

"Don't give me that..." he answered dryly. "You couldn't care less about Ella and me. You're probably hoping she fell off a cliff or something, right? You haven't changed your phony ways yet, what with you pretending to care..."

Merlin help him, where was the rest of it. Behind the mask, his eyes widened in horror, and he stopped where he was, not even bothering to hide the fact that he was staring. Really, the mask should've thrown most people off, but who knew.

Neptune jigged her way closer to Mr. Stares-A-Lot and struck a POSE before him. Stare NOW!

He wasn't aware of just how hard he was staring at her until she started moving closer. And closer.

And then did that.

One hand immediately raised and slapped over eyes and mask. Because the pose coupled with her costume was just... just too much. The immediate urge to take off his jacket and permanently charm it to her skin was way too high.

"Oh damnit. Don't do that," he muttered, peering between his fingers. "Neptune..."

What was her middle name? Did he even know it?

"Neptune Bott, what is that costume." AND WHERE WAS THE REST OF IT.

"Raiden Smith," Neptune placed the voice, then struck a new pose. One just for him, and one that radiated MERMAID-NESS his direction.

"I'm a mermaid." DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. "A nice one. Don't you think?" Here, Neptune did a slow little twirl around. GIGGLE. "Take off your mask." You know, better to see her and all.

Right. He'd forgotten. Speaking was the thing that gave him away. Inwardly cursing himself, he dropped the hand away from his face, though still he wouldn't look directly at her. His eyes kept to her general vicinity, never staying on her for more than a few seconds.

"You're a very half-dressed mermaid," he said, the tone making it evident that he had taken note of that... top. It couldn't even be called a top. It was just... a thing. A something that wasn't quite there enough to be a real top. "Don't you have a sweater or something?"

Take off his mask? Uhm. Well.

"Why? I'd much rather keep it on, actually." He'd yet to take it off, since getting here, and it was doing its job well enough when he wasn't talking like an idiot and getting himself caught.

"No, I'm not," Neptune LAUGHED at Raiden. "Maybe that silly mask is making you see weird." Again, Neptune suggesting he remove it. Really, it would make his hair a staticky mess. Dreadful.

Neptune shimmied towards Raiden, then "swam" mermaid style around him in a circle. "How many mermaids have you seen in sweaters, Raaaaaaaaaiden?" HMMMMM? GIGGLE! NONE.

She poked him in the back, then "swam" back around to his front.

In Kimber Donovan telling her to shut up and so on and so forth, to be more precise. But Di didn't say that. She gave Lexi a smile, a happy one because she was enjoying the music and all the dancing and, cheeks a bit red from cold, continued to do so. Step, step, steppp!

Behind the mask, an eyebrow raised. The mask was making him see her in less clothes than she was actually in?

"Must be a pretty special mask then. Because I swear you're not wearing anything that resembles a proper shirt."

His head turned automatically, eyes following her as she moved around in circles. When she moved out of his peripheral vision, he very slowly turned to the other direction, and caught her just as she was coming around again.

The poke in the spine caused a very small, almost invisible spasm, and he shook his head as she once again returned to being in front of him.

"Well would the mermaid care to wear my jacket then, at least? Because really, I'm pretty sure any other mermaid would be more than concerned about..." How could this be put delicately? "How very much not there most of her shirt was."

Merlin knew it concerned him. One hand touched the silver buttons that ran in a line down one side of his chest.

He smiled and winked as he noticed her blush. That was a good sign. His dad always made his mom blush. He led her out to the dance floor. "If you came back and haunted me that would be pretty cool I think," he told her as he spun her slowly around. It was a semi fast song and he wasn't totally sure how to dance to it, but just being out there with Selena was fun enough.

Neptune's hands went to her hips, just where her skirty!tail came to rest. He was being SO strange. Why hadn't he asked her to dance yet? Or mentioned the lack of pink unicorn? Honestly. "I should think that nice boys would say I look pretty tonight and then ask me for a dance. I suppose you aren't so nice anymore, though?" HMPH. Neptune gave him the GLAREDOWN.

Fake... glaredown. Don't be fooled, she was absolutely tickled pink to have his attention again. SECRET!INNER!GIGGLE!

"Yes, Neptune. I know. You've said. But..." Under the mask, his nose wrinkled, and he looked her up and down once more. "I guess I'd be more inclined to be happy about it were you not wearing something that would make at least half the guys in Hogwarts look at you."

And not in ways that Raiden would particularly approve of. As it were, he cast a glance around, as if trying to catch anyone ogling her; if he were to catch anyone, well. People starting food fights wouldn't be the only ones who he'd threaten with pie shoved far enough up their noses that their brains would be eating it.

"You do look very pretty tonight, though..." Besides the SHIRT. "Consider that maybe the nice part of me was just distracted for a moment?"

He continued tugging at the first silver button absently. How could he get her to wear something over that... that?

Raiden had said JUST the thing Neptune was waiting for. Just what she wanted to hear. Several things she wanted to hear, but one thing in particular. "At least half...?" GIGGLE. Neptune HUGGED Raiden for saying it. "Thank you. You ARE very sweet. You're sweeter than sweet. You're sweeties on sweets." HUG HUG HUG. "You're going to make my date jealous!"

She hoped, anyway.

It had been a long time since Neptune had even spoken to him, let alone hugged him. And he had no clue why she was hugging him now. Because he was worried about her showing way too much skin in her costume?

Automatically, Raiden gave her a decent snuggle back.

Probably because he'd told her she was pretty. Neptune liked to be complimented. Surely it wasn't because he'd said that she was going to be getting looks from the male population of Hogwarts. Surely.

It probably was, actually.

"Your date?" And yet she was out there bouncing around alone. Hmmm. Turning his head, ignoring the feeling of his hair slipping out from behind his ear, he looked around for anyone who was dressed even remotely like Neptune. Because, you know, she'd probably insist on matching. "Who are you here with, then?"

Oh. Merlin. Don't laugh, Raiden.

A smile tugged at the corners of his lips though, and he bit down on the bottom one. Kellybear the Pirate. Sounded downright menacing.

"He does tend to eat, yeah." Not the least awkward thing he'd said in his lifetime, but... Kellybear the Pirate. "I haven't gotten to see Stern in a while. Since... hm."

Since he'd knocked the snot out of Fletcher? Probably. He barely noticed her touching his hand, something that a few terms ago would've immediately caught his attention. When it did, he looked down at it, not immediately getting that she wanted to dance.

"No idea, really? None at all?" His tone was full of amusement. "I keep hoping someone will tell me, it'd be nice to know."

... couldn't... heh.

"That would be the function of a mask, Neptune," he murmured playfully. "You're not supposed to be able to see my face."

"Well, maybe you'd have seen him if you didn't have that mask on." Neptune pointed again. Kellybear was in a BIG GIANT HAT and knee-high boots.

He wasn't doing the steps or starting the dance. Did he think she just wanted to hold hands? Had he forgotten he had a GIRLFRIEND? 'Cause Neptune sure hadn't. She stomped her foot with a TEENSY bit of agitation. The beginnings of a huffy fit.

"I KNOW what a mask does. I'm a Ravenclaw." And Neptune felt that explained that. "You're missing the point entirely.' Among a few other things!

"You don't know what you are....? But you ... Raiden, are you quite well?" Was this like post traumatic stress from the Tournament? Did Neptune need to get the nurse....? Maybe the mask was cutting off the oxygen to his brain?

She was really pushing this mask thing. Did she want him to take it off that badly? His free hand touched it, fingertip running along the edge where it met his cheek, and he turned to look where she was pointing.

"I can see just fine with it on. It's a mask, not a blindfold."

The little foot stomp was enough warning for him, and he started moving along with her. See? Dancing for Tuney. Doing that, yes. No more getting huffy, and definitely no getting all crazy mad for no reason, silly girl.

"Why do you seem to want me to take it off so badly?" Really, he wasn't asking her to take off her costume, and that was essentially what the mask was. The black jacket, while not something normally worn, was just something he'd had. He'd pretty much just pulled dark clothing out of his wardrobe.

"The most I've been today is anonymous. But that didn't last very long, and it's not easy to explain as a costume concept." Why did Neptune Bott sound vaguely... worried? "'m fine. Are you okay?"

Neptune was content, finally dancing around the floor as it should be. She'd dance ALL NIGHT.

"You're... anonymous?" That was his costume? Neptune stared up at Raiden. What? He was so strange. Totally strange. He baffled Neptune, really.

"....... I'm... fine," Neptune was a little startled by the question. She was FINE, mostly, but..."Do I not look fine? I need to look fine. I look fine, right?"

"Em's not weird. She was just... insecure. Then."

Sigh.

"Only for a second, then. Okay? Because it's pretty much the only 'costume' on me." Slipping one of his hands loose from her, he took hold of the side of the mask, brushing his hair back away from it, and gave it a gentle tug. The spell he'd used on it had been carefully reworked, so that it would stick on his face without coming loose, but would let go if he tried to take it off.

It felt a bit odd, coming off. From having it on for more than a little while, the skin beneath it suddenly felt a little cold and exposed.

There, Neptune. See? Face. Somehow, she always seemed to manage to get what she wanted from him. It was weird.

Her confusion coaxed a grin to his face.

"See? Confusing costume concept. It might be easier to let people brainstorm their own ideas and then suggest them." That way, they could think he was whatever they wanted him to be, and he could just agree with them and not have to explain.

Easier on everyone, really.

"You do." The young man looked down and then immediately back up. "I wouldn't be able to convince you to put something on over that though, would I."

"How dare you. I would have thought you of all people would know me better than that." she said coldly, drawing herself up to her full height (which brought her eye level up to his chin) and staring up at him, looking him in the eye at last.

"I was just going to say I hope you're both very happy - yes, I do care. Unlike some people, I am actually a human being, and I am now prepared to admit I was wrong - I made some bad decisions. All I want is for you and me to be at least on speaking terms before you graduate - is that so terrible?" she finished, looking at him with a mixture of guilt and remorse.

"Please don't ignore what I have to say, Ling. I know I did you wrong, and hurt you - probably more than you care to admit. But if we can't be friends, can we at least not be enemies?"
