What is the item: mitten Size: fits my hand Shape: regular Texture: smooth, soft Color: pink, blue Weight: light Defining markings: none that I can see. Emma smiled and focused on the mitten. "Reverto!" she said. The mitten turned the brown, black colour of her hair clip. "Reverto!" she said again, and it turned back into the hair clip. "It changed back!" she cried, she covered her mouth quickly realizing that she had spoken aloud. She then went back to taking notes on what the professor had been saying. Emma's notes: Horolos - transfigures an object into a time piece. Wand movement - three tight, clock-wise circles with a flick at the end. Concentration - picture your new item in detail; note how the lock's properties will need to change. Emma focused on the lock before her, she imagined a silver necklace, "hor-eh-los, Horolos!" she exclaimed. And it turned on her first try. Wow! She then said "Reverto". This spell didn't work, she narrowed her eyes, increasing her concentration, and "Reverto!" she cried. It turned back into to a lock. She than began thinking of making the lock into a pair of earrings for Trixie. "Horolos!" she cried, using the correct movements, and the locked turned into a beautiful pair of silver earrings. She liked this class. |
Catching up Quote:
Lysandra had no idea what Horolos did. She kept her hand down and let some of the older students and people who knew answer. Quote:
Lysandra took a lock and passed it on. She listened to Professor Kingsley demontrate on what to do with the lock. Nodding her head, she placed the lock on the desk in front of her. Pointing her wand at it, she pictured a standard silver clock in her head. Turning the end in three tight clockwise circles she said horolos. The lock jiggled a little. The nob flattened and the latch at the top dissapeared, but the shape of the lock didn't change, no hands appeared and the middle was still black instead of white. What did I do wrong? She had pictured the clock and kept her concentration of the picture like she did when working with the reverto spell, as the Professor had told her. Reverto she said, pointing at the lock clock, and it slowly changed back to the lock she picked from the box. |
Placing sandal under his seat, Patroclus cleared some space for the lock. Sitting in the centre of his empty desk, the lock appeared as just that, a lock. Patrcoluc began to turn each component of the lock, into a corresponding section of a pocket watch. The dial of the lock would become the clock face, the hinge of the lock, the ring top of watch. Closing his eyes, he pictured the desk, but in his mind Patroclus replaced the lock with the timepiece. Opening his eyes, he gave the spell a shot. "Horolus" The first change was small, the silver of the lock, now turned gold, after the golden pocket watch Patroclus had in his head. Unsure whether to continue as this was only a halfway point, he decided to reverse it completely, so to transfigure it all the way in one go. "Reverto" The lock had returned, but Patroclus now had the knowledge that he could change the material with which it was made, so transfiguring a dail into a clock face would be simply. With this glowing confidence he once again pictured the lock as the pocket watch, he performed the three clockwise cirlces and as he ended with a flick, he spoke the incantation, "Horolus!" Before his eyes the locked turned into a golden skeleton Pocket Watch. |
Woah. The necklace changed into a watch. "Reverto" and the watch became the necklace again. Getting a lock Dianna tried the spell. One,Two,Three and flick "Horolos!" The lock became a teddy bear. "Oh, so soft and cuddley..." she smiled. |

---- "A reminder to the class," he said, concerned that some were not following. "You are to be using horolos to transfigure your lock into a watch or a clock. Please stay on task." He continued to patrol the classroom, on the lookout for distracted students. |
Hmm, so since the pocket watch wasn't working, that meant Fletcher hadn't performed the spell 100% correctly. He sat it down, closed his eyes to concentrate, and then performed Re-Ver-TOE nonverbally on it so it became a master lock again. Okay. Second try. He could do this, and he could do it without saying the spell out loud. He was good at Transfiguration for Merlin's sake! The boy concentrated on the mental image of a real, working, ticking pocket watch like he'd almost just produced. Then he quickly moved his wand in three clockwise circles and poked at the lock with a quick jab, thinking HOROLOS to himself. And this time.... a soft ticking sound alerted Fletcher to the fact that he'd mastered the spell. Sweeet, now he had a real gold-plated pocket watch! Awesome. |
SPOILER!!: JerJerJeremieee <33 Locks into clocks. Hehe. Gold decided this would be easier, than step one. To begin with, the professor had not asked fifth years and above to give the spell a non-verbal try. That considered, it would be simple to perform - Gold had never had any great difficulty, with verbal magic. Especially transformational. She acted out the wand-movement, without the incantation, to make sure she had it down correctly. One, two, exactly three clock-wise circles, polished off with a somewhat short flick. She tried it again, repeated the incantation to herself a few times, and then looked down at the combination lock, on her table. The similarities were, of course, there; but that did not mean the transfiguration would not require focus. Pocketwatch. Pocketwatch. "Horolos!" The combination lock vanished, replaced by a pocketwatch. Gold beamed at it, and then raised a hand. "Can we try this spell non-verbally, sir?" She asked because, you know, some spells can not be performed non-verbally. Better ask and be a fool for a minute, than not ask and remain one forever, right? Gold believed in the principle, at any rate. Well, most of the time. |
Sophia took down characteristics of the transfigured item Quote:
Sophia took a lock. Picturing a watch in her mind, she continued to the spell. Clockwise circle.... Another clockwise circle... LAST clockwise circle.... Flick then "Horolos!" She looked at her transfigured item. She was smiling when she saw a watch. But after a few seconds she frowned, something's missing -- it has no two hands. She was determined to do the spell, she untransfigured it first, "Reverto!" Back to a lock. Trying again, clockwise circle.. another clockwise circle.. last clockwise circle flick "HOROLOS!" She looked at her lock, but it was not a lock anymore, it was a pocket watch --- and she was happy - it has hands!! |
Taking the box which was passed to him by his classmate, he merrily took a rather dull-looking, scantily-detailed lock and passed on the box. He looked at the lock, studying it with a skeptical gaze. He then cocked an ear to the professor as he spoke. Hearing that the professor was already giving instructions concerning about the lock, he listened to him fully and tried to eliminate his own preoccupations. Subsequently--after finally knowing what they needed to do--Cedric gripped his wand firmly and was now about to try the spell recently taught by Professor Kingsley. He started picturing the lock into a new item, into an elegant intricately-detailed watch . He'd like its efficient inner parts could be perfectly seen and with its text, written in gold and italics. And he, immensely concentrating and ignoring all the noises done by the other people around, did the wand movement. Three tight, clock-wise circles and a flick at the end! Hor-eh-los! There, faster than a single blink, the lock obligingly transfigured into a pocketwatch. And he was now waiting for their professor to look at his work and find out if he did good enough or he rather need more practice. |

---- "You are all doing exceptionally well," he said raising his voice so the entire class could hear. "Fifth years and older, I encourage you to try this spell nonverbally, though it might prove more difficult, depending on the complexity of the watch you are trying to make." He continued around the desks. "Everyone else, keep at it. You should be striving for easy transfigurations that are swift and focused." Reaching the front of the room, Preston leaned against his desk and crossed his arms over his chest, watching. |

Jimbo practiced the spell a couple more times to make sure he was able to do it properly every time. He messed up a bit but for the most part, he could get it right 70-80% of the time. So, that was good. That was progress. And that was a non-fail. Which is good. He managed to get the spell right and perfect without having to check whether the clock was working or not because once he turned the lock into the clock - (ha!) - it was already ticking and keeping time. Soooo, WIN FOR JIMBO! YAY! |
Arya had....gotten distracted again. Though not by the thoughts she had pushed back, but by another student's clock. glancing over at said student she ran her fingers through her hair and turned back to her lock. It was completly gold by now, but still looked like a lock. Twirling her wand, a random thought not relevent to the class before she was able to turn her attention to the lock. Gold pocket watch, gold.....pocket....watch.... She motioned her wand with three small circles. "Horolos!" This time the lock's numbers changed from its numbers code to the face of the wand in her mind. Using the wand to scratch her head, she stared at the lock/watch for a moment before continuing her practicing. |
Sophia felt encouraged when her professor told her to try another one. "Reverto!" and the pocket watch turned into a lock again. She pictured once more a pocket watch -- think of a different and somewhat unique --- then she thought of the clock her family has in their house -- it was an antique. She didn't know if that's considered "complex" and she wasn't sure if she can do it, but she just tried. Three clockwise circles - Flick - "HOROLOS!" And the place of the lock was occupied by an antique clock. |

NOW. Reverto. She reverted the pocketwatch back into the combination lock, and eyed it for a bit. Non-verbals. Those were always tougher. Gold focused on the lock, though her mind was a hazy picture of a pocketwatch. Three clockwise circles, a little but firm flick - Horolos. Fail. Complete fail. The lock didn't even budge. Gold frowned, focused harder. She could do this. Horolos. She was making progress. Better. |

Treyen corrected the minor error and wondered how come the spell had worked before. Perhaps he did pronounce it right, but wrote the pronunciation entirely wrong. Yeah. That was it. But no time for wondering! Time to get his lock and FIND his WAND, because he'd fallen behind somehow. And there was no time to waste. He didn't, though, within a second he already had his lock, and was still looking for his wand....wand....wand...where are youuuu?! Er, looking nervously around, because he thought he'd lost it, Treyen found the wand underneath his bag. Apparently, the wand was trying to find its way home. Nice. He took it, and searched through his notes. Horolus. Okay. The little Lockhart placed the lock in the table and wand-at-hand he made three tight circles and then....FLICK! "Hor-eh-los!" he said, pointing at his lock, and imagining a watch. There was no lock anymore, or at least not something black and silver, but something gold made its way between a couple puffs of smoke, which he thought were not meant to happen but didn't matter, because he HAD A POCKET WATCH! He was enjoying Transfiguration just because he was getting the spells right. But, er, wait, isn't a pocket watch supposed to have numbers on it?! Oh, that's no good. It looked pretty, but instead of numbers there were images. Images he had no idea where they've come from, since he specifically thought of numbers. That's okay. "Re-ver-TOE!" he said, flicking his wand, and the lock appeared again. Excitement. Excitement. He was getting things done! Oh. Three tight clockwise circles. That was his mistake. Treyen cleared his throat. And truly re-focused on the numbers, this time was a bit easier since he knew how the watch had turned out to look like. "Horolus!" he said, followed by the three tight clockwise circles and a quick flick. The outcome. A pocket watch. Like the one above. But with numbers. Not images. Except. There were 24 numbers, instead of the 12. Oh, no biggie. He'd manage to accomplish so much in so little time that he was perfectly happy with the result. He'll try again, no worries. |
"Oh my mistake." she said to herself. "Reverto" she tapped. One,Two and Three flick "Horolos!" and the lock finally turned into a pocket watch. "Yay!" she smiled. |
Okayyy. Combination lock, into a pocketwatch. Golden pocketwatch, one that reflected her name. AND was prettily-plated. Gold concentrated on that, on a huge dial that had fancy numbering, and tried the spell again. Once clockwise circle. Two clockwise circles. Three. Polished off with the flick that she had now grown accustomed to. Horolos. Viola! In front of her sat, no longer a combination lock, but a fat, gold-plated pocketwatch. Gold beamed at, and then petted, it. Then she reverted the object back into a lock, and gave the spell another shot. She was able to carry it out without a hitch, this time round. Score! |
Professor Kingsley continued to watch, generally pleased with the amount of success, and lack of total disaster, in his classroom. Scanning the room with his eyes, he was on the lookout for anyone who might need help, but had not yet asked. Leaning his hands on the desk, he spoke loudly to get everyone's attention. "Finish up with this attempt, and then turn your watch or clock back into a lock and come forward to put it back in the box." He looked around the room at some of the creations... and some of the students who looked as if they might want to keep things. "The spell will wear off, so even if I did let you take it, it would be a lock again, soon enough." ooc: a little more time for folks with this and then we'll move on. |

Reverto. Gold placed her wand on her desk, as the gold-plated pocketwatch transformed back into the combination lock she had begun with, and then quietly rose to her feet, to do as they had been instructed. She headed to the front of the class, where the box sat, and gently replaced the combination lock back in. There. |
Right! She listened to the professor's instruction. Smiling with her wand pointed to the clock, she said, "Reverto!" And there was the lock again. She then returned the lock to the box. |

"Reverto." and the pocket watch turned back into the lock. Standing up, Dianna walked towards the box and placed it in. |
Arya was repeatedly tapping the lock/watch with her wand, her eyes closed in atempts to hold the mental image. Tap...tap....tap.... She spun her wand in three tight circles and said, "Horolos!" Opening her eyes, she finally saw a completly transformed into pocket watch. Picking up the watch, she inspecting it to make sure that it was fully transformed before placing it back on the table. She had placed it back on the desk and pointed her wand at it to untransfigure it, when the watch did the job for her. A slight frown on her face, she stared at the lock for a moment. She had thought she had concentrated enough to keep it in watch form for more than a minute or two. Sighing, she picked up the lock and placed it in the box up front, sparing the professor a small smile. Then she sat at her desk, pulling her feet under her as she absently twirled her, glancing around the room as she waited for the next part of class. |
Carter tried "Horolos" a second time. This time the lock turned into a wall clock, with hands and all. Pleased with himself he changed it back to a lock. He then did as instructed and deposited it in the box. |
