Cadence nodded at the professors encouragement. Once he had walked away, she closed her eyes again tightly and tried very hard to imagine the size of the bracelet, just perfectly big enough to fit around her wrist. Pretty sure that she could clearly see it in her mind, she took a deep breath and opened her eyes. With a flourish of her wand, she thought hard, "Reverto!" And there before her eyes was her original friendship bracelet. Grinning in excitement, she called out to the professor, waving her hand in the air. "Professor Kingsley! I did it! I got it!" |
Twirling her wand, she concentrated hard on the mental image of her pink shades. It took her a moment to piece together the fuzzy image so she was doing everything she could to keep it there, her eyes closed away from visual distractons. Florishing her wand she said, "Reverto." When she opened her eyes at gazed at the pink sunshades and a smile crept on her face. Picking them up, she began to inspect the shades, making sure that they were completly back to their original form. |

He looked over his notes and tried to memorize them. Perhaps he'd get more practice with the wand movements later. He seemed pretty happy about the results of the class. :: |

TWEEEE- "Silencio!" Okay, nope. That didn't work. Alriiiight. Another try then. "Reverto!" No obvious change, but the only way he'd know for sure... He took off the silencio charm and dropped his wand as he covered his ears. ...Nothing. Silence. Shocked, Jimbo slowly looked up at the toy soldier and grinned. He did it! He did it- TWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! "Oh, DARN! Silencio!" URGH. Really? Alright, alright. Another try it is. "Reverto!" Take away silence charm, drop wand, cover ears. Hear nothing, look up catiously, wait five seconds hear the TWEET and SILENCE CHARM! This mayyy take a while. He repeated the process again and again until he the soldier stayed silent for more than 10 seconds. He still didn't trust it though. He held his wand pointed at it, bracing himself. He waited 20 seconds, 40 seconds, a minute. Nothing happened. He waited for 5 minutes and nothing happened. Aha! Defeated! Proud, Jimbo got up and did a little jig, as he mocked the toy soldier. "I won, you lost, you lost, I won! Aha! I won, you lose! I rule!" |

---------------- Returning to the front of the room, Preston tucked his wand away. "Alright! If you haven't managed to untransfigure your item, do not worry. You will have plenty of opportunity to do so for homework, and if, failing success then, the spell will wear off in time. Please put the items away, or if they are too large at the moment, at least make sure you have some room on your desk." *ooc: We are moving on. If you would like your student to be successful, you may do so as part of your next post. However, Professor Kingsley has moved on, so don't be a distraction. :) Professor Kingsley returned to the blackboard and wrote a single word. Horolos. "Part of your homework will be to continue practicing untransfiguration, but since I cannot be with you at all times to transfigure your items, I will also be teaching you a transfiguration spell today." He tapped the board with his hand. "Horolos. Any guesses as to what it might do?" He looked out over the class. "I'll give you a hint. The incantation is similar to the name muggles give the study of this object." |
Humph! Take that, low educational standards, thought Sky smugly. I totally owned that! She rested her chin on her hand and looked around at people who were still struggling. C'mon, people! Hustle! |
Way to answer my unspoken question, Professor Ellie though, smiling. After a couple more 'reverto's, the necklace now looked like a hairtie. Only... It didn't stretch. Which made it quite useless... Oh, well... Moving on... Ellie looked at the board. Horolos? No idea...... |
Evelyn was seriously fed up with the giant bracelet. It was cool the first few minutes, but now it was just annoying, and it trapped her to her seat. "Reverto!" she said, and other swish of her wand and... well, it was shrinking! And shrinking, and shrinking and... now she was smirking. She got the spell done on the second try. One better than the previous try she did. Mwaha! And then, then the next one meant she would be able to do it on the first try right?! RIGHT!? But, that had to wait for now. The class was moving on and the Professor asked a question. He was going to be teaching them a transfiguration spell, and he wanted to them to guess what the Horolos might do? "Does it transfigure something into...something that has to do with horoscopes? Or...horses." she asked with a serious expression on her face after raising her hand. That was seriously all she could think of. |
Alexandrie was as confused as most people..The only things she could think of had already been mentioned so she sat and waited for someone to answer the question so she could make a note of it. |
Arya continued to study the shades with her eyes, but her mind began to wonder again. It was hard for her not to let it, seeing how she had nothing to focus on. When the professor began to speak again, she turned her gaze to him and tried to clear her mind. Horolos. She knew muggles quiet well, but the word was still unfamiliar to her. Running her fingers over her wand, she atempted to figure out what the spell might do. Even though her mind wasn't completly focused on the topic at hand. |
Cadence giggled a little as the professor told her to be quiet, and then prepared herself to move on. When he asked the question, she said the word over and over in her head, trying to come up with a Muggle word that sounded like this word. Raising her hand bravely, she said, "Does it transfigure things into plants, Professor? Like... horticulture... the Muggle study of plants?" |

Well, it kinda sounds like something to do with clocks. He might be super far off but a wrong answer is better than nothing. "Uhm, it kinda sounds like the french word for clock so...does it turn an object into a clock?" Hopefully he was somewhat right and didn't just make himself look stupid. Although, really Jimbo was used to looking stupid. It was the Jimbo way. |

"Excellent! You made the connection between the incantation and it's effects." ------ Turning to the board, he added another word. Horology. "Now, don't be concerned if you didn't make the connection. Many muggles aren't familiar with this word, either. Horology is the study of time, and by extension, the pieces that keep time. Watches. Clocks. Sundials." "So, yes, Horolos, will transfigure an item into a watch or clock. The shape it takes depends on what you picture it to be. Those more advanced students will be able to create more intricate pieces, though I encourage you all to start small." Reaching behind the desk, Preston pulled up another box. Reaching in, he removed a single muggle combination lock. "Pass these around. Everyone gets one." He handed the box to a student in the front. "We're going to all transfigure the same object, so we can again reflect on the changing properties. Take notice of the similarities, in particular. The lock has a face, with numbers. A watch, or a clock, will have a face, with numbers. Let that help you focus." "Remember, picture the new piece in your mind, what you want it to look like. And then," Preston unholstered his wand and rolled up his sleeve. "The wand movement is a little more complicated. Three tight clock-wise circles, with a flick at the end." He demonstrated. "So, horolos. Pronounce it hor-eh-los, three tight circles." Preston did so, transfiguring his lock into into a stylish pocketwatch. When you have your lock, you may give it a try. Raise your hand if you have questions or need help. Remember, you might not get it right your first time." Preston tapped the blackboard with his wand, adding the information. Quote:

Ellie took a lock and examined it.... That was smart, actually, using a lock... It did kind of look like a clock. She could just see the numbers and the little locky part on top? Eh... decoration? She shook her head. She wasn't going to try anything extravagant yet... "Horolos!" she said, as she did the wand movement. At first glance it looked as if the numbers changed... But, looking closer.... nope. Why was this so frustrating? The way her dad made it sound, magic was going to be easy... |
Cadence took the box from the professor, pulling out a lock, and passed the box on before scribbling down the notes about the incantation. Before practicing the incantation, which seemed simple, she began practicing the wand movement. Three tight circles and a flick. Once she felt confident in that, she pointed her wand at her lock and imagined it turning into a silver pocket watch. Three tight circles, a flick, and "Horolos!". The watch transfigured part of the way, becoming thinner and the dial being replaced by hands, but some of combination numbers still remained in addition to the 12 numbers for the clock. The lock on top also still remained. Frowning at it slightly, she decided she'd have another go. |
Once Sky got her lock, she thought, 'Kay. I got this. Can't be that hard, can it? She slipped her wand out and did as the teacher said. She pointed her wand at the queer looking lock- such strange Muggles -and did three tight circles, with a flick, and recited, "Horolos!" Thank Merlin's pants. Wait... it was supposed to be a watch....? What the fudge was on her desk? It didn't look friendly.... "Aggh!" she yelled, WAY to loud, when the wahtever-it-was pounced. Oh god..... |
Alex frowned glancing at the lock thing. She poked it repeatedly with her wand before turning her wand three times tightly with a flick at the end pronoucing, "Horolos" out thinking of a normal plain watch. She poked her lock repeatedly, nope didn't do anything. She tried again but ended up butchering her pronucing, "Holcus!" Alex coughed as smoke appeared, well opps. She waved the smoke away to try again, "Horolos!" with three tight circles and then the flick, thinking of it making the change from the simple lock to a simple clock. Well she thought at least it made a somewhat change. She poked the lock's new feature..the hands that moved on watches..well almost she thought. |
The study of time? Arya never heard of such a thing, it sounded rather boring if your doing it the muggle way. Though with magic she was sure it could be a bit more interesting. Scribbling down a few notes, she picked up the lock when it was passed to her and ran her fingers over it. She had one for her locker back home, though a bit different. As she began to form a simple picture of a watch in her mind, a thought relevent to the present subjct crossed her mind. "Professor Kingsley," She raised her hand slightly. "Do we need to picture the watch with straps or just the actual watch piece itself?" Cause that made a big difference for her image. |

Approaching, he set it back down on her desk. "Calm down, Miss Sterling. It is the inside of a cuckoo clock. The spring uncoiled and it jumped. No harm done." Tapping it, he turned it back into a lock for her to try again. Quote:

---- He turned to the class again. "I see that some of you have having partial success. When you get a partial, in this case, use 'reverto' to return the lock to its original state and try again. Reverto on this item should be much easier since you cast the original spell." |
Alex shrugged poking her..watch lock thing again, "At least I didn't set it on fire." she muttered lowly trying the spell again focusing, "Horolos!" three tight circles and a flick.. well..her lock was now partially a watch..the only thing that remained was the loop of the lock..Cool..ish..She thought mindlessly twirlling her wand before getting back on task, three circles..a flick, "Horolos!" And..nope still had the loop. She frowned at it poking it angrily. "Horolos!" she tried again moving in the correct patterns..Nope still had a slight loop from the lock. |
Selena took a lock and sighed. She looked at it and imagined a pocket watch. A shiny silver one that ticked quietly like the way the lock sounded when the dial was spun. Selena imagined the face of the watch, black and white with numbers all around it like the lock. She continued to picture it in her mind. The lock was silver, black and white, just like the pocket watch in her mind. Selena closed her eyes and pictured the watch, the lock, then the watch again and of the changes it would have. The numbers on the back of the lock would become a nice engraving on the back of the watch. When she opened it she made 3 tight circles, counter clockwise, with her wand then pointed it at the lock on the table. "Horolus," Selena said clearly. She looked at the newly transfigured item on her desk. ooh. It turned out right!! Selena grinned. This spell was much easier than the other one. |
Okay, okay, okay. She knew she wasn't giving as much concentration as she could. That was what was wrong. She just wanted to avoid another trip to the hospital wing was all. But she was tired of her magic not working! She closed her eyes and blocked everything out, picturing the little round clock she was going to transform the lock into. Or not... wait.. she could do better. She could make the round lock square. She nodded her head in affirmation of herself. Yes, she could, thank you very much. She opened her eyes and stared, threateningly, at the lock. Circle, circle, circle, flick! "Horolus!" she said. Almost commanded. She watched as, before her eyes, the numbers changed to 1 through 12. The center sprouted little hands that began ticking. Ellie glanced at her own watch and smiled. The correct time, too. She was just awesome. And though the lock didn't change fully, she was quite pleased with herself. So far... |
Horolos, three tight clockwise circles, and a flick at the end. Didn't seem all that hard, but looking around, she saw that there were people having trouble with it. So, harder than it seems? Frowning, she looked down at the lock she took as the box was being passed around. Muggles used these? Seriously? How, in Merlin's name, were they useful? But, thoughts of how weird muggles were would have to wait. Time to turn this thing into a watch! Yes! Practicing the wand movement first, since it was the hardest part at the moment, after a couple tries, she figured she had it down. And her pronunciation on the spell names were already good enough as it was so there was no real need to practice that. However, a few mumbles of the spell she said under her breathe as she placed the combination lock in the middle of her desk, before preparing to do the spell. Okay. Scooting her bracelet out of the way, she glanced at the silver snake for a moment before looking at the combination lock. So, lock...into watch. Lock to watch. Lock...to watch. Lock-watch. Closing her eyes, she tried to imagine it, going from lock....to watch... "Horolos." she said, creating the three tight circles and upwards flick at the end like practiced. Opening her eyes... that was definitely not the watch she imagined. In fact, it didn't work at all. Sighing, she rolled her eyes before moving her bracelet a little more out of the way and closing her eyes once more, thinking of the first picture of a watch that came to mind. This time, it WILL work. "Horolos!" Ehh...maybe she should put her bracelet away? It was too much a distraction. Picking up the watch, she frowned as she picked up her bracelet. Bahahaha! Moving to the side, she stuffed it into her bag before sitting up straight again. It seemed she got the spell down alright. Just focusing was all that needed to be worked on. Definitely, focus. And not focusing on snakes. "Reverto." |
Alexandrie idly tapped her wand against her leg She knew she should focus on transfiguration but all she could think of was fire. She sighed trying to clear her head her wand doing the wrong movement but not noticing and then, "Incendio!" Alex repeated the spell in her head in shock yelping as the fire start. She had just freaking set herself on fire! She bit her tongue trying not to panic really she was.. "Ow!" she yelped finally trying to beat out the fire she started..on herself.. She didn't know the water spell after all. "Professor I accidentally set myself on fire!" she shouted beating the fire still with her hands Alexandrie didn't even know she knew how to do Incendio..let alone use it. |
