OOC: The following thread will open shortly after the first lesson.
To the right of the Charm's classroom and the left of Professor Carlton's office is an unused classroom that has been transformed into what looks like a little bakery. It's called "Molly Weasley's Charmed Kitchen," so named for a certain crafty cook Professor Carlton has heard of a time or two. Hungry for cupcakes? Drooling for a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies? No matter what you seem to have a taste for, this little charmed kitchen is just for you!
The catch is that this, as the name of the room suggests, is a charmed kitchen, which means all the cooking utensils and methods you'll use to cook require the use of magic. Better figure out a way to get that spoon to stirring all on its own!
More often than not, Professor Carlton can be found in the charmed kitchen, as well. If you have a question, need some help, or just need someone to taste your "Dough Surprise," she won't be far. All set? Ready, set, dough!

Gold skipped in, gloves pulled on, and beamed around at the pretty, little place. This was honestly a dream come true, and she could not wait to get started. There was a cookbook tucked under her arm, and a pretty and quite happy twinkle dancing in her eyes.
Right.
Now to get to work. She was excited enough to break a plate or two, but Gold honestly hoped that she wouldn't. Even though she could always repair it with a bit of charm-work, she didn't want to be clumsy.

AND food is good.
Now that her first lesson was over and done with, Lexi was free to wander on into her little charmed kitchen and test things out. Sure, she had been the one to have the kitchen put in and all, but she hadn't actually gotten a chance to really go inside it and put it to good use.
As she walked from the corridor into the room, she reached her hands behind her back and tied her apron around her waist. She'd charmed it to be a pretty orange color today to reflect...well, feeling bright and sunny. She didn't know why she'd expected to be the only person inside the kitchen, but...she had. Seeing Gold, the Gryffindor perfect, sort of took her by surprise.
"Oh, Miss Laksh! It's good to see you in here. What are you making?" she asked. Come to think of it, though, Lexi hadn't really decided what she was going to make. She'd just really planned to come inside and...well, just come inside. That was all. She hadn't really planned on actually baking anything.

Professor Carlton!
"Good evening, professor," Gold said cheerfully, not too slow to notice that the Professor looked mildly surprise to see her, here. Gold wondered why, but decided it would be impolite to ask. Which was exactly why she did not. Instead, she beamed around the kitchen, and said decidedly, "It's a lovely place, this, professor. Thank you SO much for it!"
Making? Something yummy, of course! Well, hopefully. Gold wasn't the best cook, out there. But she was a wonderful baker, and could make pretty much any type of desert, under the sun. Even if she didn't know the sweet-dish, if she had a basic recipe that she could work upon and extend and play with, she was pretty much always fine.
"-- a black forest cake, I think," she said, after a moment's pause.

That sounded perfect, to start off with!
Taylor walked in the front door and breathed a long breath. She couldn't wait to get started cooking and start making some black forest cakes. Cooking is her favorite hobby. She saw that she wasn't the only one in the kitchen however. Theres another girl and Professor Carlton. Taylor walked to the girl and started to look at what she was making. Obviously she was making a black forest cake too.
"Hi! I see you are also making some black forest cakes! Would you like to make them together?" Taylor asked and hoped it sounded politely.

Gold looked up, when she heard a voice that was not familiar. Oh. She had not started yet, but she guessed the girl had overheard what she, Gold, had just relayed to Professor Carlton. Tying her pretty!golden apron - one with the words "I am not an apron" stamped across it in big, scarlet letters - around her waist, Gold nodded cheerfully.
"Definitely," she said. "I'm Gold, by the way. Gold Laksh, sixth year." There. Now they could be on first name terms, if the girl was willing to let Gold know her name, too. Rawrr. "I have a basic recipe in mind, but I like to play around and try new things. If that's okay with you?" She opened her cookbook, to show the other girl the recipe, she had in mind.
Text Cut: Ze Recipe
Ingredients:
* 2 1/8 cups all-purpose flour
* 2 cups white sugar
* 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
* 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
* 3/4 teaspoon salt
* 3 eggs
* 1 cup milk
* 1/2 cup vegetable oil
* 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
* 2 (20 ounce) cans pitted sour cherries
* 1 cup white sugar
* 1/4 cup cornstarch
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 3 cups heavy whipping cream
* 1/3 cup confectioners' sugar
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9 inch, round, cake pans; cover bottoms with waxed paper.
2. In a large bowl, combine flour, 2 cups sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs, milk, oil, and 1 tablespoon vanilla; beat until well blended. Pour batter into prepared pans.
3. Bake for 35 minutes, or until wooden toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Cool layers in pans on wire racks 10 minutes. Loosen edges, and remove to racks to cool completely.
4. Drain cherries, reserving 1/2 cup juice. Combine reserved juice, cherries, 1 cup sugar and cornstarch in a 2 quart saucepan. Cook over low heat until thickened, stirring constantly. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla. Cool before using.
5. Combine whipping cream and confectioner's sugar in a chilled medium bowl. Beat with an electric mixer at high speed until stiff peaks form.
6. With long serrated knife, split each cake layer horizontally in half. Tear one split layer into crumbs; set aside. Reserve 1 1/2 cups Frosting for decorating cake; set aside. Gently brush loose crumbs off top and side of each cake layer with pasty brush or hands.
7. To assemble, place one cake layer on cake plate. Spread with 1 cup frosting; top with 3/4 cup cherry topping. Top with second cake layer; repeat layers of frosting and cherry topping. Top with third cake layer. Frost side of cake. Pat reserved crumbs onto frosting on side of cake. Spoon reserved frosting into pastry bag fitted with star decorator tip. Pipe around top and bottom edges of cake. Spoon remaining cherry topping onto top of cake.

Lexi click-clacked her way over to where Gold was standing. "Well, thank you, Miss Laksh. I don't...necessarily enjoy baking as much as I enjoy trying to figure out combinations of charms to help with the baking," she admitted. "Oh, and...of course I just love the end product---cupcakes, cake, brownies..." Who didn't love sweets? Only, Lexi had always been careful to eat them in moderation. She didn't want the sweets to travel straight from her mouth to her hips, after all.
She glanced up when a second Gryffindor girl joined them. "Hi there," she greeted. She listened as the girls made plans to bake a black forest cake together. "Hmm... it seems you girls have it all planned out then. I'll be next door in my office if you need me, and I'll likely poke my head in soon and see how you two are coming along." She paused for a moment then turned and headed for her office.

"Wow that sounds delicious! My name is Taylor by the way. Taylor Black. You may know me from my twin sister Savannah Black. I don't know much about black forest cakes so is there anyway you can show me how to make them?" Taylor asked hopefully. She didn't want to sound like a total snob who's not going to do any work and is new to everything so everyone just has to help her. She was new as a first year and she didn't want to make a bad first impression on anyone.

Gold beamed, at Professor Carlton. "I couldn't bake as well, without charms," she admitted. She could, but it would be much more time-taking, and Gold preferred the use of magic. Even though she could manage without it, if she really, really had to.
Aww, Professor Carlton was taking her leave. "Have a nice day, professor," Gold said, as she turned back to Taylor.
"I never had a chance to get to know your sister," she said, with half a smile. She had never herself had a sibling or cousin, at Hogwarts. The former, because she did not have any; and the latter, because she had left a majority of them behind, in France. Which she missed. But she needed to focus on what they were going to bake, again.
"It's alright," she told Taylor. "We can go with the recipe, for now." To make things easier. "As long as you follow the directions, we should be fine. Even if the cake doesn't turn out the best, practice is what makes perfect." She offered Taylor a smile, as she set the oven's heat.
"Now, we have to start by greasing and flouring two cake-pans." She summoned a pan to herself. "When you grease a pan, first make sure it's perfectly clean and dry." She held up the pan, to show that it was. "We can use any good-quality vegetable oil, to grease it. That can be applied with paper towels, or a silicone brush. I personally prefer the brushes, because they make the task much easier. I'll show you how to grease one pan, and you can try it on the other?"
Gold fixed a wax paper in the pan, and then used her wand to tip the container of oil over, so that the liquid poured into a bowl. Then she directed a brush into the no-longer-empty bowl, and charmed it set, so that she had both hands free, while the brush coated the pan, with grease. "We add a teaspoon of flour, then," she told Taylor cheerfully, using her wand to lift up a teaspoon, scoop up some flour with its help, and tip it into the pan, the moment it had been properly greased. Lifting the brush away, she picked up the pan and shook it, evenly distributing the flour at its bottom.
"I've always found that there are some things that are best done manually," Gold chirped, as she tilted the pan up on side, and gently tapped it with the flat side of her palm, to flour a wall. She turned the pan slowly, tapping until all four of the walls were covered with flour. The excess flour fell down, on a paper she had placed below it, and Gold vanished it with a flick of her wand, when she was done. Then she placed down the now greased-and-floured pan, and turned to Taylor.
"I know that can sound like a lot to someone who doesn't know how to grease-and-flour," she said gently. "But take it in little steps, and you'll be fine. Place a wax paper in the pan first, then use a brush to apply the oil over it. After that, add a teaspoonful of flour in the pan, shake the pan to evenly distribute the flour, and then tilt the pan and gently tap it with the flat side of your palm. That flours the walls. You'll start to get the hang of it, when you work on it. If you have trouble with anything - not just now, but whenever you're in the kitchen - it's always best to ask someone who knows. Don't hesitate."
Hopefully, she hadn't overloaded Taylor with information. Gold gave the younger Gryffindor a polite smile, as if to tell her that she was going to do just fine, with this.

Wow. Taylor watched as Gold started. She has never seen such good baking, especially not from her mom. When it was Taylor's turn to start, she was so nervous. Never had she had to bake a black forest cake. Though, Taylor did what she was told.
"Um, while we are working, how about we talk a little? You never told me which year you were in. My sister is in Slytherin so it's no wonder you've never seen or heard of her. Although I still love her, I am very ashamed that my own sister would be in Slytherin. We hardly hang out as much now. The only class we go thats the same is potions which I had to miss for the first lesson because I was very sick. One reason that me and my sister don't hang out is that I am friends with many people including muggle-borns. Savannah hates muggle-borns and dreaded to be with me ever since the first time she saw them. I didn't care that much because she wasn't exactly as supportive or as mature. You can easily tell I am the older child. We were born on May 7th. I was only born 10 minutes before Savannah. Our family was pretty big if you counted pets. Mom has two cats. One's a girl and one's a boy. The girl's name is Sassy. She likes to act popular around here. The boy is Mr. Fluffy. He is fat and the fluffiest cat you will ever see. Savannah has her own cruppie, named Spaolion. I have my own owl and her name is Lucy. Now, enough about me. Tell me about you and your family!" Taylor said, working very hard. She hoped she didn't sound like it was all about her and she was really excited to learn about Gold's family. She really wanted to be friends with her and thought she was on a good start. She knew that asking "would you like to be friends?" may make her sound like a nerd and the last time she did that, she was refused and yelled at so badly that she didn't even think she'll ever have another friend. After telling all about her twin sister to someone she barely knew, she kinda feel bad just at the thought of Savannah. It was true that Taylor missed her very much but every time she thought of her, she gets sad.

It was true that Taylor missed her very much but every time she thought of her, she gets sad.
Gold watched Taylor carry out the task successfully, and gave the younger girl a little nod. "Good job," she said, as she summoned a large bowl to herself, set it down, and tipped flour into it. Which done, she had a cup rise into the air, dip itself into the sugar, come out full, and then tip itself, into the bowl. Two cups sugar, cocoa, baking powder and soda and, of course, the salt. There.
"Would you like to add the milk, oil, and eggs?" She asked, using her wand to place each item right in front of them.
Oh, Taylor wanted to talk! Gold had no problem with that. "Definitely," Gold agreed. "I'm a sixth year. You must be a first," she added, with a smile. Because one, Taylor had not been around last year; and, two, even if she was a transfer, she was pretty small. That made her either a first year, or a second year. She shook her head, when Taylor said she was ashamed to have a sister in Slytherin, however.
"One of my best friends is a Slytherin," she told the younger girl, gently. "Slytherin is a wonderful house, Taylor. You're new to Hogwarts, and I know you must have heard a lot of stories and stereotypes. But, once you get more used to Hogwarts, you'll see that it's the people, and not the house, that matters. I know some amazing Slytherins, and I know some extremely troublesome Gryffindors. The sorting isn't meant to divide us, but to give us a home within a home. One shares some defining qualities with one's housemates, but a house doesn't make one good or bad."
Cue smile.
"Oh, that's bad," she said, when Taylor told her how her sister hated muggle-borns. "Blood doesn't make us inferior or superior, either," she said, gently. "I'm a pureblood myself, but I don't believe in blood-related stereotypes." She shrugged, a little. "Pets are lovely, though. I don't have an owl, but I have two kittens. High Heels and Mr. T. The latter's named after a really close friend of mine," she added, with a little laugh.
Drahhco... you danced.. l LET THE GREEN GIRL GO! l I think I got it! l hermoingo boingo boingo....
Keeley grinned happily as she skipped into the charmed kitchen, the meeting place for invitation makers. She already had a bunch of different designs bouncing around in her head. She adjusted her signature blue fedora as she waited expectantly for someone to come around. Let's get this party started!

Vanessa walked into the charmed kitchen, a smile planted on her face. Invitation committee was something she never thought of doing but was glad to be joined in. She watched as Gold had a cookbook under her arm and her face was suprised. Were they supposed to bring recipes? Well she was a good baker...maybe she could just make it up on her own? She fixed her purple apron and waited to be given instructions.
After eating dinner, Sophia was so excited to go Molley Weasley's Charmed Kitchen. She'll be a commitee- invitatio n committee. She never thought she'll be part. Thinking of stuff, she sat down on a chair and waited for the other committee to come.

Yummeh batter!
Gold levitated it right up, and tipped the untensil, to pour the batter into a cakey-pan. She was quite cautious when using cake-pans, now, because she had had an unfortunate incident with one, one that involved Rai and a broken nose. Shaking her head at the thought, she let it bake. Thankfully, charmwork made the wait shorter, much shorter, and now she would not have to wait for half an hour.
It was at this moment that Gold spotted Vanilla. Waving to the girl, she beckoned her over. "How are you?" She asked, cheerfully. Maybe Vanillaahh would like to bake, with her?

She fixed her purple apron and waited to be given instructions.

A few moments later, Professor Carlton (dressed in the same pink apron she'd worn for Charms class) strolled back into the charmed kitchen. The two Gryffindor girls were still working on their cooking project, but it looked like a few of the committee members had started to arrive, too. "Welcome to the charmed kitchen," she greeted with a smile. She gestured toward a group of chairs, motioning for the girls to take a seat if they'd like. "Go ahead and take a seat, and we'll get started just as soon as a few of the others have arrived. If you smell something cooking, then it's probably the cake the two Gryffindor girls are working on," she said, pointing to Gold and Taylor.

She waved to both Gold and Taylor from the other side of the room. "How's the cake coming along, Miss Laksh?" she asked the prefect. She looked from Gold to Vanessa then back again. No doubt Gold and Taylor were wondering why so many people were suddenly trickling in. "Invitations committee meeting...," she said, motioning toward the girls who'd just come in. "Maybe some of the committee members would like to help you two bake, but first, I'm going to need them at the meeting. We're going to have treats soon, though, so you girls are, of course, welcome to some." Lexi wouldn't dare to serve yummy treats to the committee and exclude Gold and Taylor.

Oh, Professor Carlton was back! "It's coming along pretty nicely, ma'am," Gold said, wand in hand as a toothpick inverted itself over the batter, and went right in. It came out clean and, once she had set it aside, Gold used her wand to cause the fire to flicker, falter and die. Now that that was out of the way, she could finally move on to the next step. If Taylor wanted to pitch in, she could, at any time. Gold would be glad of any help, as well as ready to answer any questions the firstie might have. If she knew the answer, of course. Gold was a good baker, but she wasn't the best, out there. Lots of Hogwartsians probably had better skills.
As she set her not-yet-cakeyy cakeyy to cool, wire-racks levitated to their proper place, and then set down, she listened to Professor Carlton and nodded. "Oh, I didn't know everyone was trickling in for the meeting, professor," she said simply. Sooo. Meeting, eh? She got to be included, hehe! She gave Professor Carlton a cheerful, little smile, before returning to her work in silence, so as not to disturb the meeting.

She had almost forgot to say her nickname, but she would get used to it. She smelled the batter and it smelled really good. "What are you making?" She asked curiously.

Vanessa turned around and listened as to what Professor Carlton was saying. Hmm maybe she would help Gold bake, it seemed pretty fun. She hadn't baked in a while and maybe some practice would do her good. She wondered what the meeting would be about, well of course about invitations but what exactly they were going to do. She knew of course it would be fun, it had to be. She took a seat, waiting for the meeting to start, she would talk to Gold just to waste some time before the meeting.
Invitations Committee...yes, that certainly sounded like her. Well, that or the Food Committee. Hehe. Hopefully there would be some good people on that committee too so that the food would be good. She had failed to look at the other lists and their members...meh...Nancy made a mental note to catch up on that.
Grinning like a fool she entered the kitchen excitedly with the parchment the pretty owl had dropped off during dinner in her hands. Yes, this was going to be awesome...as long as she didn't have to do any drawing or anything. Then it wasn't going to be awesome 'cause the invitations would look as if a flobberworm had created them...so, no drawing for Nancy.
"Haiii everyone!" The Prefect waved at the people already inside the kitchen with a grin on her lips before plopping down on one of the vacant chairs.
Vanessa noticed Gold and smiled. She waved back and walked over to her. "I'm...decent. How are you..Goldie?" She said giggling a bit. She had almost forgot to say her nickname, but she would get used to it. She smelled the batter and it smelled really good. "What are you making?" She asked curiously.
Goldie. Aww. "Pretty fine, thank you," she said, with a warm smile. "Having fun experimenting with charms and baking." She eyed a few ingredients, as she spoke. Eggs and milk and stuff. YUMMEH. Especially when they had finally contributed to the end-product.
Speaking of the end-product, Gold needed to start working, again! Having already set aside twenty ounces of sour cherries, the sixth year set to draining them, now, reserving half a cup juice; and then using her wand to blend this juice with the cherries and a cupful of sugar, that she had her wand tilt into the mixture. Then she added corn-starch in the saucepan, set down her wand for a moment, and breathed in the scent of everything. It was a lingering, not to mention lovely one, and it made her pick up her wand again, using it to direct the saucepan on to the stove.
"Incendio," she sad softly, watching a low flame erupt beneath the vessel. Then she levitated a big, rather fancy-looking spoon into the fore-mentioned vessel, and cast a quiet "Excito Orbis," tracing the direction of her spoon, so that it would be able to stir itself. Then, both arms free, she had her wand direct exactly one teaspoon of vanilla into the mixture. She let it heat, frowned thoughtfully and then, reaching for a bowl of hot, fresh milk, spooned off an amount of thick, sweet cream, and stirred it into the mixture. There. Now that was better.
"I love how awesome all this stuff smells, even before one completes the actual product," she said to Vanessa, green eyes shining brightly as her wand tipped whipping cream and sugar into a bowl. She pointed her wand at the bowl then, and gave a funny, little movement of it. "Glacius." There was a jet of chilly air, but no snow or ice, as Gold's concentrated intent was to chill the bowl, not freeze it. Once she was satisfied with the results, she dipped a beater into the bowl, and tapped her wand against it.
"Locomotor beater."
She traced her wand's path, both quickly and firmly; and, half a minute later, the beater was busy imitating it, and the mixture inside the medium-sized bowl pretty happy being all frothy and yummy. It soon began to stiffen somewhat, in peaks. Yummeehhh.
Antonia wandered into the charmed kitchen, feeling a bit intrigued. She had applied to be part of the Invitations Committee and apparently had been accepted, perhaps this could help relieve some of the boredom and frustration she had been feeling over being abandoned by her family. Yes, it would be good to get her mind off of things.
Some people were already here, and the truth was that she didn't really know any of them. She had been so reclusive and withdrawn since arriving at Hogwarts, perhaps she needed to get out a bit more. She smiled shyly at everyone, ready to listen and get started on whatever they were going to be doing. Maybe this would be fun, after all!
Ooh! Invitation committee! Just what the girl had wanted. Bonnie had almost sprinted to Molly Weasly's charmed kitchen. Oooh! She thought when she arrived. Cute. Sucking in a deep excited breath, Bonnie Campbell skipped in. "Hello Professor Carlton!" She flopped down onto an empty seat and then grinned at her sister.

Nancy had been lazily glancing about the kitchen, watching Gold and some other Gryffindor girl baking something...baking something which smelled absolutely delicious by the way. Yummy! Just as she was about to get up and ask if there would be somekind of left-over for a poor hungry Prefect a little girl entered the kitchen a little shyly. Upon taking a closer look at the girl she turned out to be a Slytherin too...okay, there went her part of the deliciousness...
Picking up her chair the Prefect slowly made her way over to the younger Slytherin with a smile on her lips. "Hey there. D'you mind if I join you?" Not that she would have left if the girl were to say yes. Heh."I'm Nancy. One of Slytherin Prefects. And you are...?" Was it bad she didn't know every single Slytherin's name? Err...Hopefully not.

Ruffling his hair and with Jadyn in his arms, Constantine entered into...a kitchen. He had kinda been hoping that this new Charms professor wasn't serious. Apparently, she was. He continued to walk into the room, and found himself a chair to sit in, putting Jadyn down on his leg and holding her close.
