| | | Potions Class One
As you enter the dank, dark cave of a potions classroom, the first thing you might notice is the smell. A thousand different scents, good and bad, mingle together in the moist, rich air of the musty dungeon room. The room is gloomy: the lighting is dim, mostly from wall sconces where candles flicker but also from small flames under a series of cauldrons which are simmering at the back of the room. There are rows of workstations with two stools at each station.
A thousand and three jars, canisters, and containers of potions ingredients line the shelves along the walls, gleaming dully in the low light. Each is labelled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.
At the front of the classroom, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions: Quote: POTIONS 101
Please be seated. The professor will be here momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. If you are an older student who is familiar with Potions you may set up your workstation. First years, please ask an older student for assistance.
You may talk quietly amongst yourselves, but please keep the conversation to a reasonable level out of respect for your classmates. Thank you. --Professor Kazimeriz Class Synopsis:
The professor has entered the room. A brief discussion about the Cardinal Rule of Potions (Know thy Ingredients) has taken place. A Worksheet has been distributed; students have been instructed to write equal and opposite ingredient pairs on this worksheet to familiarize themselves with complementary ingredients to understand the concept of negators, or neutralizing ingredients.
A brief discussion about Golpalott's FIRST law was introduced: for every ingredient, there is at least one equal and opposite ingredient that can be used as an antidote to the first ingredient.
This led to a discussion on Golpalott's Third Rule: the antidote for a blended poison will be equal to more than the sum of the antidotes for each of the separate components.
The class was informed that they have all been poisoned by means of a potion that absorbs through skin contact. Their goal? To identify their symptoms and brew the antidote to their poison by the end of class. Instructions can be found here.

She might feel totally happy -- the way he was feeling super sad. ARGH, not good! He turned over another page of his potions book, trying to find another ingredient. So much for being good at Potions.

"But..You're not, Fyo" she took his hand in his, gently squeezed. "Tell me about your symptoms" so that she could help him find the right antitodes. Moving closer to him, she shook her head, unsure of what she had got for her.
"I just dont know.." She felt fire underneath her skin, spreading all through her body wildly. Ignoring it, she watched him, waiting for his words as flipping through the pages of her textbook.
REmedies. Oh..Come on. I feel more fire..

I like your hair too." she smiled very briefly as she turned more blue. "You are too kind, I look like a smurf though, but with pretty hair." She was about to cry again. Leaning over to see how their cauldrons were doing, she reached for what she thought were the mystery ingredients she needed: Ashwinder eggs, bubotuber, Abyssinian shrivelfig, and daisy roots. "I looking like I have kankles!" she cried. "Daisy roots should help that, right? A smurf with huge kankles, yeah that was very cute.
She turned back at Carter as she started to add her four mystery ingredients and brought her cauldron back up to a boil. "Do you think you are going to add all three of your ingredients or just one?" she asked pulling them from their supplies. Quote:

Hogwarts RPG Name: Hadley Taylor Fourth Year | Canon Niffler || Neville's Yorkshire Pudding | | Teddy's Biographer || P + R = ♥ Lorcan sat watching his potion bubble getting increasingly annoyed. The professor - the child catcher - hadn't answer his question about hellebore and moonstone so he rooted in his potion kit to find them. He looked between the two ingredients trying to make a rational decision, but he couldn't, so without measuring them he dumped both into the cauldron and began to stir.
Lexi may call him Nemean as a joke, a term of endearment but he was not going have the temper of a lion that eat villages. Oh No, not him. He stirred the potion angrily, waiting for something to happen.

REmedies. Oh..Come on. I feel more fire.. Tell her his symptoms? "I'm more concerned about you, at the moment," Fyo said truthfully. He didn't think she was alright - how could she be? They had all absorbed some sort of poison. But, whatever was wrong, she was not letting it on -- and that, of course made him doubly concerned.
Didn't she know what she meant to him?
"I feel majorly unhappy," he admitted, as he rummaged through his ingredients, and came on a bit of pomegranate. That was it! The said ingredient was of good use in the Strengthening Solution, and he felt weak - rather wrecked - from tears and sadness, at the moment. Yes indeed, it would be of help, too, if descriptions were to be trusted.
"Lissy?" He looked up, and the anxiety in his tones was clear. "What symptoms do you have?" He really needed to know, if he was to help her find the mystery ingredients she needed. Bad, BAD poison! |

He was concerned about her more. She knew that. Her RawringLion is kind and Love always. But sadly he himself was caught in some sort of effects by this experimental poisioning. Bad. Alice looked at him, trying to smile, "Mine is not that much serious." Lie. She felt like burning underneath her soft skin. Somebody put off the fire.
Bitting her lip tightly, she watched him running his eyes through the pages of his text book. "Well..I know about only one thing to get rid off your temporary sickness, Fyo" A kiss. A strong kiss from your butterfly. Haha. Which was the most effective thing than any remedial potions. she grinned at her own thought as swallowing her own pain.
Unawaringly she was rubbing on her skin, as if it was going to solve her problem. "Mmm..I feel burning sensation underneath my skin" she said, closing her eyes as unable to read not even a word from the book. I'm alright..I'm alright, she muttered to herself.

He grinned when she spoke of the... cure. He could guess what that would be. But really, now was not the time to think of that. "Stewed horned slug," he told her, with a nod. "Either those, or dried nettles - those are the kind of ingredients your antidote needs, I think." Both were a part of the Boil-Cure Potion and, Fyo felt, could work wonderfully. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Hadley Taylor Fourth Year | Canon Niffler || Neville's Yorkshire Pudding | | Teddy's Biographer || P + R = ♥ Lorcan could hear his classmates chattering around him about their potions including the big cry baby behind him and he wished that they would just SHUT UP. He was trying to concentrate on his potion, which had now turned a pale blue. The surface was emitting sparks. Since his last question had gone unanswered, he didn't bother to ask if that should be happening. He took a sample with one of his crystal phials. He looked at it briefly and them swallowed it. It tasted horrible and he gulped in air afterwards. He immediately began to feel calm and sleepy. He placed his head on the desk and felt his eyes close.

Hellebore. Yes, that was it. Purgative... can strip of bad things. Wait, what was that supposed to mean? Probably, Fyo decided, that it had the power to neutralize a potion whose effects were along the lines of 'general agitation,' or something like that. Not very clear, that statement!
He frowned a little, then looked up at Lissy again. "We can do both potions," he suggested, glancing into her cauldron. "Have you boiled the rest of the ingredients? Because maybe you can give the dried nettles a try, if you have." Or the stewed, horned slugs. Ewwww. |

Calming draught could be useful for him. But what are the ingredients for that? Alice scratched her back head and rubbing on her skin, softly, trying to supress the flaming sensations on her skin.
"Do you know what are the ingredients for brewing Calming draught?" she looked up at him, as taking a glance back and forth at him and the text book. Potions seemed hard morethan ever. Sighed.
"Mmm..yeah, but I've done with almost eighty percent" pointed out her finger at her cauldron, "Waiting for the last essential ingredient.." she sighed again, "But..Fyo..nettles meant for curing boils. I've no boils here" she stated the obvious, blinked.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Former Professor Valon Kazimeriz Graduated | Kool-Aid, Oh Yeah! | | SS Mischief Maker
Professor Kazimeriz shuffled about the classroom, observing the students as they worked. He reflected that perhaps he should have made less of the parchments affect the memory, as it made the assignment harder for the students. On second thought, it was better that they learn how to brew while incapacitated... usually when one is creating an antidote, one is doing it not as a lark but because one HAS been poisoned, and learning to brew quickly and despite disability was a good skill to acquire in the relative safety of a classroom setting. I know you know how to perform that spell, Miss Toussaint." Quote:

Remember, when brewing an antidote to save a life, you have no room for failure." Kazimeriz smirked at his students. Quote:

Delana wondered, just finishing up with her potion and looking up to the professor. Maybe she was wrong about this, but just in case she was right, she'd have the counter-potion done and ready. Kazimeriz glanced at the young girl, raising an eyebrow. "Move along, now, time to check your parchment. Use the sperevelio charm." he encouraged. Quote:

Sticking a finger in it, she noticed how cold the stuff was, and that it also had the consistency of yogurt. Kazimeriz smirked as he watched the girl basically losing her temper; she obviously had an emotional reaction to the potion and fortunately, she was going down the right path by choosing moonstone. Hopefully she wouldn't act out in her rage and tip over her cauldron or anything like that... pretty soon she would start to fall ill, after all, if she did not have an antidote ready soon. Quote:

She looked at Destiny and sighed. I think that rat spleen would be a better choice. Leeches are tricky little buggers and Im already irritated. She busied herself with crushing the fangs and grinding the moonstone into a fine powder...Okay...as far as the poison goes, im thinking maybe essence of murtlap mixed with snake venom...Snake venom should be a good substance to eat away the poison with the murtlap essence to balance out any harmful effects the venom might have on the body. Also, maybe the murtlap could soothe the itching...
She turned to the cauldron and checked to make sure everything was as the directions indicated. So ar, so good. Kazimeriz nodded with approval as the student brewed. "You are doing well; hurry now, for time grows short." Quote:

He dumped the contents into the cauldron and then found the instructions on a piece of parchment on the table. He was boiling now, and a small change to the flame size would bring it down to a simmer. But what was this about a mystery ingredient?
Hmm. Cope searched the page and found "It's your memory, you dope" in his own handwriting in the margin. Ahh. So, he needed a mystery ingredient to combine with the quintessence to counteract the symptom of memory loss. Memor... no! Don't forget. THINK. Memory. What improves memory??
Quickly, Cope dumped out his entire bag of potions ingredients, searching through for ANYTHING that would affect memory. Half of them were scooped back into the bag, and Cope was left sorting through some of the more exotic ingredients they seldom used in class.
He blinked. Whoa! Potions class. What were they doing in Potions class? And why was he holding feathers? Annnnd... ooooh. A simmering cauldron. He dropped the feathers one by one into the cauldron. CLEARLY that was what he was supposed to do, right? RIGHT? "Good, Mr. Kettleburn. Keep focused on your brew, you are doing well." Kettleburn looked completely bewildered. He snickered to himself a bit, noticing Kettleburn's expression was not unlike the normal expression of their addle-minded Divinations professor. At least Kettleburn's condition was only temporary. Turning to her own potion, Destiny noticed it didn't have anymore boiling bubbles. Hurray! Destiny's potion was complete! 'What do I do now? She could ask Evelyn, but she probably wouldn't give her the right answer. Or she would tell her to boil her head in it. Yeah, Destiny will just ask the professor. 'Professor! What do we do when our potion is done?' "Go ahead and perform the SpeRevelio charm to see if you correctly identified the ingredients in your potion, then. If you have, you may consume a draught of the antidote you created. Then we'll see if you are correct... or if you are doomed." Kazimeriz smiled wickedly. Quote:

Poisoned cruddy.
Once the potion had simmered, Cope filled a phial and set it carefully on the desk beside him. "Sperevelio," Copernicus muttered. He read the revealed potion with great interest, but... he had no clue if that's what he made. He just... couldn't... remember.

"Professor REALLY need some help." Kay said looking at Marie and hoped she didn't go any more nuttier. "Yes, dear childe, how may I assist you?" Kazimeriz asked casually. He really was rather enjoying this class; it was both a potions lesson AND a defense lesson, when you stopped to think about it. Also, it gave him a small measure of satisfaction to note that Lawson had not truly taught them to be vigilant - the DADA professor should have cautioned them against absorbable poisons, certainly. He would have, were the position still his. Quote:

"Do not despair, Mr. Balouch, you are doing well. Do endeavour to hurry, for class period is almost at an end." Kazimeriz said with an encouraging tone.

It was not often he was uncertain about potions he had read of - brewed, in fact - but the ingredients evaded him, at the moment. Shucks!
"Yes," he agreed, when she slipped the Boil-Cure Potion into their sort-of-conversation. "But boils can cause inflammation, and they burn, don't they? We need an ingredient that eliminates the inflammation, and that's why the ingredients of the Boil-Cure potion should be handy."
At least, in theory. Quote:

The fourth year shook his head, then gathered the pomegranate, moonstone and hellebore - yes, down, down they went, and into the cauldron; and then the fire beneath that had been raised by a notch, so that the ingredients could come to the required boil.

At least, in theory. Well..atlast Fyo seemed found the correct ingredients for his potion. She was happy despite the burning sensation of her skin. "Okay, sounds quite right." She said and moved forward towards her Cauldron after letting him work without distractions. Distractions are dangerous for Potion classes.
Grinning inwardly, she took the ingredients one by one. Dried nettles, crushed snake fangs, stewed horned slugs, porcupine quills in suggested measures. Carefully, she removed the Cauldron from the fire before added the ingredients into it and started stirring. Great. Avoided a major blow.

I hope he's getting a huge kick out of this. She whispered back, feeling like she may never want to attend Potions again. She followed Destiny's lead and turned so that their concoction could boil in peace for a few moments. This has to work because I refuse to walk back to the common room in this state. So, if it doesn't do what its suppose to, the poison better kill me fast.
Marilyn was being dramatic but she didn't rightfully care at the moment. She turned back to the potion to see if the syrupy-ness had been achieved. Seeing that it indeed had, she lowered the heat to let it simmer. At which time they would be forced to digest some of this thing...ugh. Would you go ahead and check the paper with that spell? Destiny eyed the professor. 'I actually think he does enjoy this.' 'And that makes him give me the heebie jeebies even more.' Shuddering, Destiny took one last look at the boiling potion. 'Its boiled!' She watched as Marilyn lowered the heat. Just a little longer and Destiny the chicken will be gone. The anticipation of getting rid of the feathers made Destiny's wings flutter. 'Hmm, I guess they do work. Even if they are little.' They wouldn't get her anywhere she figured so she now wanted them gone.
Destiny grabbed the parchment and her wand, which kept falling out of her feathery grip. 'How am I supposed to hold this?' The genius in her decided to put her wand in her mouth and poke the paper with it. 'Sperevelio!' She was actually surprised she pronounced it right, with her wand in her mouth. The antidote was starting to reveal itself.
Rat Spleen. 'That one is right!' One down.
Snake fangs 'Goodbye boils!' good, because her face hurt.
Moonstone 'That's there! I guess they knew these feathers would make me go crazy!' 'Murtlap's not there, but now that I'm bleeding it is still good, right? And either is snake venom, but that doesn't matter, right?' Hopefully it doesn't do anymore damage to themselves.

She grimaced at the revelation of the poison having no counter ingredient in their potion. "So, since the feathers, boils and wings will be gone, I'll look normal for a funeral. That's awesome." She glared in the potion master's direction and muttered under her breath about him complimenting them for doing well. He didn't have to encourage if it was wrong...
She was deep in thought over some way to trick this poison...Although, there wasn't anything that could be done. The potion had already went through its second boiling stage and was finished. Merlin, help us...

Matheu heard the professor, who was walking by and saw Matheu watching his brew, say use the charm on the parchment. He took his wand out and placed the tip on the parchment "SpeRevelio!" Matheu said. Words started to write themselves on the page and a list of ingredients under the ones that Matheu wrote appeared.
He was dead on! He got all the ingredients correct! He even added the moonstone the proper way and the worms at the right time! Matheu was so excited. The words said to take only a tablespoon full. Matheu got out a tablespoon and dipped it in. He put it in his mouth and almost gagged! But instead he beared through it and swallowed. Disgusting! The short temperness and melancholy started to seep away immediately.
Matheu opened his Potions notebook and wrote down the lesson and his potion and poison. This would be a strong class for him.

Reading through it quickly...well a little too quickly. The only words that popped out to her were Runespoor eggs and Moonstone. "DESTINY!" she yelled excitedly, waving her parchment around, but then turned down to a whisper like she had been doing lately. "I think I got it right." *Insert reaaally long laugh and giggling* |
