| | | Lesson 3: Deliberation! Entering the Great hall you'll see that the room has been changed to look like the set up from the previous lessons. The tables have yet again been pushed away to the sides, and been replaced by about 30-40 school desks. In the front of the room there is a professor’s desk, a few stacks of mats, hoops and other apparition equipment. On top of the professors desk you'll see a large bowl of honeydukes candy, and a handbag. To the right of the desk Ms Angelica Goldbloom is sitting and reviewing her class notes. (OCC: Feel free to post arrival. The lesson will start in approx 2 hours meaning 10 am EST or 4pm GMT +1 hour) |

Angelica had taken a short pause in the lesson as Lorraine had for a minute taken over reigns, but now it was back to her. The announcement that the students didn't need their wands caused mixed emotions she gathered from the students. Well you didn't really need a wand in all lessons. Shrugging Angelica turned her attention to Miss Lockhart who had been the only one to answer Lorraine's question "Yes, Miss Lockhart is correct. The movement you need when you apparate is to turn on the spot." "Turning on the spot is essential to any apparition attempt and at this point in your apparition you all must feel your way into nothings while moving with Deliberation. Angelica paused to allow the students time to digest what she had just said and take down notes. As time was though of the essence she didn't leave a long window of contemplation for moving saying " Now on to something which I think all of you here have taken good care to learn about since it’s the backside to all apparition. Just to clarify the term once and for all can anyone tell me what Splinching is and when Splinching occurs?"

Qaz raised her hand and replied, 'Splinching is a consequence of poorly performed apparition. What happens is incomplete apparation, leaving a body part of some kind behind, as small as half an eyebrow, or as big as an entire leg. ProfessorI think it happpens when there is not enough determination.' |

| ❄ Chasing Waterfalls & Wonder ❄ | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Oh Miss Lockhart truly did seem to be a product of father! For a Hufflepuff, the girl was quite smart... Must be the Quidditch blood in her veins too. Wondering vaguely over whether the Hufflepuff Captain was a seeker or not, Lorraine completely spaced out until Angelica spoke again. It seemed they were having an alternation of asking questions. Which meant.... HER turn! Weeeeee!!! She really should not have had that caffeine. Whoopsies!
Moving on to splinching and then ... her posters! Quote:

Splinching occurs when the mind is insufficiently determined. You must concentrate continually upon your destination and move, without haste, but with deliberation. Generally speaking, if you splinch - which is perfectly acceptable when just learning I shall let you know - it shows that you are paying too much attention to one of the three D's but not the other two. In order to avoid splinching you MUST treat all three equally."
Pulling up the blank poster, Lorraine waved her wand subtly before slipping it back into her pocket, as the poster now hovered in the front of the Hall. "Before we begin Apparating, which I will let you all know that normally as you are aware, apparition is prohibited on the Hogwarts grounds, but the special charms have been dropped to allow you all to apparate within this room only. Anyway, before we begin, I want to go over with you the steps one time. SO if I could have some volunteers to raise their hands and offer the three steps to Apparition one more time and I'll write them on this poster as a reminder to you all."

Qaz raised her hand again and offered:
Step1: Fix your mind firmly upon the desired destination.
Step2: Focus your determination to occupy the visualized space.
Step3: Turn on the spot and feel your way into nothigness, moving with deliberation.

"Those are exactly and one hundred percent correct, Miss Windsong," Lorraine beamed at the young Ravenclaw, pleased that at least someone had read up on Apparition before taking the lessons. With a swift motion of her wand again (and then replacing it again in her pocket), the department head and the following up on the poster: "Alright. Now everyone please stand up and Miss Goldbloom and myself will move all the desks to the side of the Hall. Following the steps we've gone over, you may begin attempting your apparition." Lorraine explained, waiting for them to rise. "Focus. We're here if something goes awry, so just try your best."

Qaz stood as instructed. She then pulled a pair of Mary Janes from her bag and swapped them for the Crocs that she was wearing. Nice slick soles, better for spinning. She’d tried to spin in her Crocs and almost twisted her ankle. Great shoes for most things, but not spinning.
Once Qaz had her hoop, Qaz stood behind it. She fixed her stare on the middle of the hoop. Over and over in her mind she was saying, ‘I am standing in the middle of the hoop. I am standing in the middle of the hoop.’ Nothing was happening. Right, forgot to spin…
Destination, Determination, Deliberation. Qaz opened her eyes, stared at the center of the hoop. ‘I will apparate into the hoop’ she thought without reservation. ‘I will apparate into the hoop’ She closed her eyes, did a tiny spin on her left foot and felt a bit of a wobble inside. She opened her eyes. The hoop was no longer in front of her, so she looked down, and there it was….on her right. She moved back behind the hoop.
Once again, thinking, thinking, thinking…I am in the hoop, I am in the hoop. This time, she kept her eyes open and did the tiniest of movement on her left foot and felt her stomach pull again….which made her close her eyes. Slowly, she opened her eyes. She looked down and she was smack dab in the middle of the hoop. Her heart was soaring. Just to make sure, she quickly checked behind her. Nothing left behind. No splinch. ‘I did it!’ |

WHAT?! Like right NOW?! Nooooo...or, yes. It was better to get this over with.
Of course, she stood up and left the safety the desks provided. Suddenly there were hoops placed in front of each one of the students. Including her, of course.
Alright, then, splinching didn't hurt. So, no need to worry. According to both the Ministry ladies.
Destination. Clearly inside the hoop, where else? Determination. Well, that was taken care of, she was a Huffie, and Huffies were determined. Deliberation. That's the problem. OWLs and Quidditch occupied her mind. She'll have to blank it out for a moment, because now she had to focus.
Thinking about doing a proper Apparition was exhausting. And she thought she had it, but when she turned on the spot all she managed to do was...precisely that. Turning on the spot, because the hoop was still in front of her.
Nothing to be concerned, right? She's never done that before. Let's try it again. And by that she should've said "Let's try again to stay in the same place" because she didn't move. This was...annoying.
Clearly, she was lacking the Determination to do so. Ironic, being a badger and all.
After a few lot failed attempts, and what seemed like hours, she...DID IT! She was standing in the center of the hoop. Her face lit up. She'd done it! Then why was her hand in aching a bit...wait, no, not her hand, her finger, the index finger of her right hand...it was burning...and then she looked down to it...
A scream. And the bloody tip of her index finger. "MY NAIL!" she exclaimed, Kaika had never felt so stupid before, she looked back to find the silly nail floating in mid-air. Now what?

Lyra stood up from where she sat. Her nerves were beginning to show and this was so not like her. She had to get this down, she had to show someone that she could actually do this and do it right. She was soooo going to win at this!
First she needed a destination spot, a place within the room that she could concentrate on. Spot on the floor over...there... Obviously, this was not her first place of choice but, soon, she could be a spy all over again, she just needed her partner in crime. Spot in the floor...spot in the floor....over there...spot in the floor...
She closed her eyes, determined to complete this task the right way. She had to do this, she had to get to the spot in the floor where she wanted to be. This was it! It was now or never!
When she opened her eyes once more, she was still in the Great Hall. ...breathing...now start moving hands...OH I have that...and that...still there...still there...and there...and we have these...and those...hair...HAIR?...OH there it is...nose...lips...eyes...ears...obviously fingers...toes...knees...bum...stomach...clothes.. .THANK MERLIN...
"I did it!" OMG! She was extremely happy beyond words and couldn't believe that she completed this...that she actually did it and did it right!

Angelica had been watching as student after student successfully preformed their first apparition attempts. She was about to stop the lesson to talk about side-along apparition when she heard a scream. Turning a around wide eyed she searched for the source. It was the Hufflpuff girl Miss Lockhart. Pulling out her wand she scurried over the hall to where the girl was standing calling back to her co-tutor "Lorraine, we've got ourselves our first splinch victim. Help me mend her." Angelica stopped when she came up to the girl and examined Miss Lockhart from head to toe.
It appeared that the Hufflepuff only had splinched a nail which was a little relif. She had seen herself how people had managed to splich a lot more. Looking into the girl's eyes she said reassurringly "Calm down, love! There is nothing to be scared about. We'll patch you up in no time. Don't you worry." Angelica waited for Lorraince while keeping an eye on the other students. It would not be good if more students got splinched.

| ❄ Chasing Waterfalls & Wonder ❄ | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Lorraine walked around the Great Hall watching with anticipation as three students stepped forward to try their apparition. "Excellent job, Miss Windsong," the brunette nodded in approval at the Ravenclaw who had forgotten to spin the first time but successfully apparated on the third try. "And you as well, Miss Noir," Lorraine commented, her hazel eyes taking note of the young woman successfully apparating for what appeared to be the first time (despite her anxiousness). "Nice job." She tossed a chocolate frog to both Qaz and Lyra. Quote:

A scream. And the bloody tip of her index finger. "MY NAIL!" she exclaimed, Kaika had never felt so stupid before, she looked back to find the silly nail floating in mid-air. Now what? But it was the scream that startled Lorraine as she looked over towards the Hufflepuff Captain who started shouting about her nail! Which for an athlete seemed quite odd for her - a captain - to be on about bloody fingernail, since she'd broken lots of nails in quidditch before. "Relax Miss Lockhart," she told the young Hufflepuff, but Angelica had arrived at the girl's side first and seemed confused about what to do for a splinched victim. "It's only a finger nail. It could be worse," she reminded her, recalling her basic first aid knowledge.
Spotting the fingernail hovering about three feet from the ground - which was something so small that only a trained ex-seeker could have spotted - Lorraine held the injured hand of Kaika's with one hand as she used her right hand to flick her wand for the nail to hover over towards the index finger, and onto the formerly bloody nail bed which she cleaned with a simple antiseptic charm. "Antiarius Ontin" she murmured non-verbally, still holding Kaika's hand steady as a small amount of ointment squirted onto the nail. "Inurio Bani" Lorraine finished with wrapping a bandage on the fingertip of the captain. "There there. All better now." She smiled comfortingly. "By evening you could take the bandage off."
***
Instinctively looking down at her watch, Lorraine gasped silently upon seeing the time. Walking back up to the front of the Hall, she whistled once to get their attention. "Sorry class, we're now out of time but I want to thank every single one of you for making our re-introduction of Apparition Lessons back into Hogwarts educational system a success. For those of you not yet of age, it would be wisely recommended that you take a refresher course at the Ministry when you do become of age. There is a written exam that you all have to complete and when you do, we will send you a certificate of completion for the course and exam. If you bring this certificate to the ministry at the time of your test, then you could take the Apparition test and bypass the course administered at the Ministry, as well as receive a 10% discount on the cost of the test."
With that, she flicked her wand again and a single parchment floated to each student in the room. Quote:

Clearly, the burning sensation was not the same as being hit by a bludger...speaking of bludgers...she still had to find her bat, because she'll have to get a hold of it soonish.
To make sure this nail thing didn't get in her way to get a hold of it properly, of course. Quote:

And here comes Miss Department Head. Great.
Sure. It could be worse. Things can always be worse. And she was thankful it was only her fingernail the one thing that was left behind.
It was simply brilliant how she managed to secure everything in place. And she had her nail back! Big deal. She couldn't have the scream back, could she? "Thank you" she said, as she looked at her bandaged finger, then nodded when she mentioned she could take the bandage off in a few hourse, because evening was a few hours away, no? What time was it?
Oh, right. Apparition. Yes, she wasn't off age, still a couple of years away, but she'll need to do the writing part for the certificate.
And they were done. Good. "Thank you, Miss Division Head...and Department Head" she said, walking away with her bag, "And...see you...I guess...Bye!" Kaika waved good-bye with the hand with no harm fingers and left the Great Hall.
