| | | History of Magic Lesson 1
Professor Truebridge opened the classroom door and all of the windows so that the room could air out a little bit. With a few flicks of Loretta, the majority of the dust was gone and Ethan spent a moment looking around, spotting his old desk and looking underneath it to see if his name was still carved into the wood. Yup, there it was. He straightened and headed to the door, leaving and returning after a few moments with a bulging sack which he stashed under his desk up the front.
He took off his shoes and placed them aside, walking over to the door and tapping his wand against it to reveal a message; Please take your shoes and socks off and leave them at the door.
Thank you,
Professor Truebridge
Barefoot he strode around the classroom, idly moving each desk so they weren't quite straight and not quite facing in the same directions.
Organised chaos.
After a few moments he padded barefoot over to his chair and sat in it, waiting for the students to arrive. ooc:
The class will open in a few hours... basically whenever I wake up... it will go for about 24 hours or so, giving ample opportunities for everyone to join in.
Posting in the class indicates you have read the rules thread and intend to follow them.
Please pay attention to ooc instructions in this class, but refrain from posting ooc notes yourself; if you have any questions, please PM me. |

*He shrugged.* "Sorry, didn't mean to butt in." Kayla looked up at Gabben and sighed. "Exactly which shows that he is anti-muggle. He was run out of his home and so he created a place where they could never enter and hurt him again. To me that says he was against muggles but of course that is just my opinion, we all seem to have different views on the matter" she shrugged and then waved her hand. "It's fine that's the whole point of the lesson" she added offhandedly. Quote:

"No we didn't" Kayla agreed. She listened as Cela spoke and nodded. "True, but she made it easy for the muggles to catch her, which to me says that she didn't mind muggles at all. Like I said before we are all going to have different opinions on the matter and there is no correct answer." Woah...talk about frying your brain.

"I should clarify my name huh? It's Whitney Ash-" she started but had to stop mid sentence. Was she hearing wrong? "I'm sorry did you say Toussaint? As in Nicholai Toussaint's sister?" Was that even possible? She knew he had a sister but hadn't actually thought of meeting her. "Isn't that just lovely. I love your name by the way. As I was saying, I am Whitney Ashford." Nothing memorable about her name. 'Nico.' she thought, still not able to get over meeting his sister. "I agree with that too. Only, from what we know,Xavier didn't do much." Uh, why are surnames important all of the sudden? Tobi wondered. It was probably a girl thing. Girls are crazy. Except grown up women Like Nurse Brooks-Byron, that's another story all together. And Aggie's not so crazy either, but all other girls Are NUTS! He ran his hand through his curly blond mop, in something of a disarray since his frog catching adventure, and tried to refocus on the task at hand.

| Double Agent Stamps! Abby raises her hand. "Bertie Botts didn't orginally set out to create beans based on all the favors in the universe. He actually ran across the idea by accident. Bertie was working on creating flavors from various food when he accidentally included dirty socks in one of his trials. I would say he must have liked the taste. He certainly became famous making every flavor beans."
"I think if you look at the people on the the frog cards, you see that they are remembered for what they did and not who they are. They also cover a wide range of areas from spots, to food, to helping found Hogwarts. You also see they all didn't necessarily do good things to get placed on a Frog card. Salazar Slytherin helped found Hogwarts, but his ideas on pure blood supremecy has caused probems in the wizarding world that we are still dealing with today. I find it strange that Musidora Barkwith created a musical composition that can't be played without bringing the house down. She must have been looking for her five minutes of fame, and ended up getting a lifetime of fame. It's hard to say who was more worthy to be on a card than the others. I think it's like beauty. It depends on the eye of the beholder."
Abby watches carefully as a frog lands on her desk. She doesn't move an inch hoping the frog won't jump again. Abby throws her net over the frog and takes his card off. "Finally I have one. |

| ❄ Chasing Waterfalls & Wonder ❄ | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Besides feeling absolutely ridiculous, Dominic nonetheless was following the professor's instructions. Standing on the desks in bare feet was not exactly his idea of paradise. But it seemed all the other students had done it, so why not one more?
Holding his butterfly net in the air, the was absolutely no way that Dominic was going out of his way to catch a card! For the love of all things bright and colourful - it was only a frog. A chocolate frog. Nothing exciting. Now if it was something sour like lemon tarts or of the like, then perhaps more flamboyancy would be generated. But it was C-H-O-C-O-L-A-T-E! Just a bunch of cocoa beans ground up and slammed with loads of sugar designed to make the body run on adrenaline or something like that. A load of clabberts.
Idly observing the chatter of students nearby - particularly a certain female Hufflepuff Prefect with Cela-an-dine, it took a few moments to notice that there was something struggling to free itself for his net. Glancing up at the net, Dominic blinked a few moments as he stared up at his net slightly bewildered. Oh right. A frog. In his net.
Slipping down into his chair, as he pulled the net down to eye level, Dominic reached inside to pull out the chocolate frog. Just a few moments and it'd be revealed who was on his card... as soon as he just slid it open just a little bit...

Looking back at the questions on the board and down at the notes she had made on her parchment. Liz starts writing down the questions that were put on the board, and answering them
Pro-Muggle or Anti-Muggle? Hmm, well if he was a healer, I would assume he wouldn't mind if there were muggles, that needed to be healed especially if it was a magical injury. So I think he must have been pro-muggle.
Did they change the world? Absolutely, he founded St. Mungo's. He aided the healing of many witches and wizards, not to mention muggles too!
What was happening in history during their lifetime and how might it have influenced their actions? Hmm memory modifying charms were invented. This may have had accidents at first, and being a healer, he may have had a lot to do with healing those accidents.
Looking at a time line she found in the book, she sees that the "Leaky Cauldron was founded sometime in the 1500's, I wonder if that was another clue, to Mungo Bonham..."
Mungo Bonham VS Muggle Doctors; Who would win..... in a duel? .... in a debate? .... in a dance-off? Hmm, definitely Mungo Bonham, would win in a Healing competition. I mean, stitches, now really..." | |

Qaz watched as a new question was added.
Raising her hand, she said, 'I'll take Dumbledore in a dance-off over any of the rest. I have heard that he was quite fond of fancy-clothes, too. Purple suits, and all.' |

“Pinkstone was an existentialist hero,” Matilda chirped, her card faced down on the mud of her desk. “Whether or not her quest to lift the Statute of Secrecy was successful; or if it were a just cause, she did it with determination,” it was either that or she was really desperate.
“Quong Po, Plumpton, Barkwith and Bott were just geniuses. Successful geniuses. If Pinkstone had been successful, it would have been a New World…" Quote:

Slytherin tried to change the world as well, in his own (batty) way,” Matilda grudgingly agreed after a thought, staring poniards at the chocolate coated card. He purposefully made the common room the most uncomfortable, hideous place in the whole of Hogwarts… and likely blamed it all on the muggles.
“I think that makes it Pinkstone and Slytherin are on the complete opposite ends of the spectrum.” Err... Wizard communism and wizard fascism?

She read her card to herself: Claudius Ptolemy
Born in Egypt in about 85 A.D.
Ptolemy was one of the most infuential Greek wizards, astromomers, and mathematicians of his time. As Ptolemy studied and observed the heavens, he formulated The Ptolemaic System shows the Earth as the center of the universe, followed outward by the moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Through his system, Ptolemy was able to greatly improve wizard's abilities to read the heavens and predict the future. His system allowed for Divination to be studied on a broader scope, and he is often considered one of the prominent figures that shaped the structure of Divination as it is today.
Lyra groaned inwardly. 'Divination- sure to be one of my worst subjects.' Especially since it had been one of her mom's favorites. Ever since she had chosen Ravenclaw over Gryffindor, Lyra had lost all interest in proving herself to her mom. In fact, she didn't want to be like her at all, anymore.

Only, from what we know,Xavier didn't do much." "Just call me Cela." Celandine answered with a smile. She looked at Whitney strangely when she stopped mid-introduction, "Yeah. You know what?" Cela looked around with a cross expression on her face, "I'm the cool Toussaint and its sooooooooooooooooooooo annoying that people know me because of him. So what if he was all hardcore with points for Slytherin?"
They'd struggle without him and Will thats for sure.
"So what if all the girls were making kissy faces at him? Nico isn't here anymore and I am and I am cooler and prettier." Cela made a face, wondering why she felt the need to say all of that. "But hi, Whitney nice to meet you." Celandine smiled brightly, "and I like my name too." Quote:

Now that was a time she knew she would have been angry if she stayed behind at that time. She was more than happy to have missed out on that part.
"So what would have made her anti-muggle?" She wanted to hear what Cela had to say about Wendelin the Weird and gather her view on things as well. It was always good to weigh out one side before sticking to one side. "I'll tell you sometime." Cela volunteered, happily.

Or maybe she was driven from her home or something like that. Maybe she just didn't like that there are more of them than there are of us. Or maybe she was crazy." Celandine mused. Quote:

He examined the list of who had which card again.
Standing, Truebridge idly added another question to the ones already on the board.
Humming one of the songs from the musical Rent (For some reason... he had no idea why it was in his head) Ethan sat down again and observed the class. "Ohh neat!" Celandine noted, reading the added question. Quote:

"Er, that's also a good thought, thank you Celadine." There was something about the weird little girl that he tended to like to humour. Maybe it was the scorpion that she kept in her underwear. Girls who kept poisonous creatures in their foundation garments were always to be placated. "Chaos theory." "Hi Dom-in-ick." Cela greeted, jabbing him gently in the leg with the butterfly net she still held. "What card do you have?"

Dominic had been sitting back in his chair, reading the card over and over in his hands for a little while now. Actually, for a moment he had even forgotten that he was in a lesson, since he seemed to be quite absolved in his own little world. Par-a-cel-sus. Paracelsus. He liked the sound of that ... There was something eloquent about the name, yet mysterious all the same. But what was more was that the card that he held in his hands was one of a famous wizard - trading card number one. A rare find indeed. Peculiar.
Lost in the moment of reading the card, chocolate thrown behind him someplace, probably long into the stomach of some hyper child, the fifth year heard a familiar tone greeting him. But it didn't stop there, as he felt a jab of something rounded into his leg - obviously the handle of the butterfly net, cause people always went around poking people with net handles. Well then again, this was Hogwarts. "Ouch," the fourteen year old muttered indistinctly, rubbing his leg, before looking up to see the glowing hyper face of the third year Ravenclaw. "Oh, It's you... Hey Cel-an-dine. Oh... Uh, just some wizard. Paracelsus. It's just a dumb card though, right?" Probably. Hence why despite the knowledge of chocolate frogs since he was a little boy, this was Dominic's first card ever. Chocolate never interested him, so why should the cards within it?

"You have some good points; however I think it is important to speculate on the whys and wherefores to better gain an understanding of what made them 'worthy' for a chocolate frog card. The best way to understand the past is by attempting to understand the people through their actions rather than by analysing the events." Ethan nodded; pleased by the girl speaking up. Quote:

I mean, stitches, now really..." Truebridge stood and glanced at the ravenclaw's parchment, "The Leaky Cauldron was founded by.... another chocolate frog card person." Ethan paused, "But follow that train of thought and see where it leads. How many connections can you make with the different witches and wizards? featured on the cards?" Ethan nodded encouragingly before moving along. Quote:

"Ptolemy is just as important to Astronomy as to Divination, though in different ways." Truebridge noted with a crooked grin. Quote:

"A few more minutes before we move on." Truebridge announced, slowly walking around the classroom and stopping occassionally to listen to the discussions.

Looking up when she hears a voice over her shoulder. She smiles at the professor. "Thank you for noting that. I agree, there seems to be a lot of connections with some of the cards and people on them..."
