Actually, Professor Bontecou coudln't think of anything either and he was anxious to get brewing. "Okay, well, forget about it. Let's get down to business!" he said and with a flourish, he plopped a bowl of what looked like worms on his desk. "We're going to be brewing a quick, fun, little potion called the Hair Raising potion. Who can tell me what this potion does?"

Astrid had racked her brain and still came up with nothing. She was getting a little upset to be letting the professor down. She raised her hand slowly and said, "The only Z word I can think of right now, is Zombie. But I can't imagine that has anything to do with potions, sir."

Allie raised her hand.
"The Hair-Raising Potion is a potion that has an unknown effect. It may cause the drinker to feel excited or simply make their hair stand on end." she said.

Thankful to be moving on, Astrid raised her hand and said, "Well Professor, it says here that 'The Hair-Raising Potion is a potion that has an unknown effect.' Sometimes it causes the drinker to feel excited. And sometimes it simply makes their hair stand on end."

Jillian raised her hand. " The Hair Raising Potion makes your hair stand on end" she answered.

Rachel grinned and answered, "The Hair Raising potion's effects aren't known. It might cause the drinker to feel scared or excited, or it might just make their hair stand on end."

He turned at the sound of the door banging open. "Oh! Well, just take a seat. I really can't blame you. I was late myself, actually. I just can't seem to find my way around. A couple of us are getting together to try and make a map. The headmistress was going to look for one more me, too. Maybe I can duplicate it and share with you," he smiled and then scratched the tip of his nose.




"Yes, that's exactly right. And what do you think is in this bowl?" he asked with a slightly sinister (well, as sinister as he got anyway) grin. "And why do you think we use them in this potion?"










ooc: I am not using the lexicon as a text book. So, even if it says in the lexicon that it's an unknown effect (because it wasn't described in the books) doesn't mean no one in the wizarding world knows what it does. Also, even if it only has one or 'unknown' ingredients, doesn't mean those are the only ingredients. If I ask a question you can't find the answer to in the lexicon, I'm fully expecting a made up answer, preferably something with a little thought put behind it.

Allie raised her hand.
"Is hair in there, Professor?" she said. "Since it makes your hair stand on end...it might need hair inside the potion."

Rachel knew what was in the bowl, and recoiled slightly. "Professor, there are rat tails in the bowl right? Well, the only reason I see is that the concept of rat tails has always scared people. That means that if it is used in a potion with other specific ingredients, then it will create the same effect; hair raising," she said. She wasn't 100% sure of her answer, but she reckoned that it was the best she could do.

Astrid wrinkled up her nose and said, "Umm maybe some kinda bugs or something else equally as creepy?" she asked. "Something gross enough to make your hair stand on end perhaps?" If she was right, she didn't not want to see the inside of that bowl anytime soon.

He beamed. "That would be wonderful, sir! Thank you! The staircases are what throw me off, every time. Do they move all the time? It's rather confusing." Maybe they were posessed by demons or something. Demons that didn't want you to be on time for class. He plopped down in the nearest empty chair, pulling out his textbook and hitting his head on the table in the process.

He blinked slightly, listening to the professor and the students. A student had mentioned something about hair-raising... but bugs and rat tails and hair wouldn't raise hair, would it? "Static electricity, professor? That would raise hair... but is there a way to put that into a potion?" What was he on about?

Cela raised her hand, "Billywig bits, Professor. Just a little bit; not enough to fully levitate the person who drinks it."

"They do move all the time and sometimes, just to throw you off, they'll change their pattern," he winked. Then, to address the others answering his question. "Yes, they are rat tails and are quite hair raising, which is the reason they are included in the potion by the same name. Any ideas what else might be tossed into this potion?"

Allie raised her hand again.
"What about crushed beetles sir?" she said. "Those are creepy. And if your scared enough of them, make your hair stand on end."

Rachel thought. What else might be in this potion? "Well, I suppose there are a few more creepy stuff like spider legs or dead cockroaches," she said and shivered slightly at the thought. "There are also more basic things, like water or some form of liquid, right?"

Nate raised his hand. "Snakes and spiders. Ya know, the usual things that freak people out." he said with a devilish grin

"Sir, I will say that peanut butter is an ingredient in this solution. Is that possible?" she asked."Just in case you need something sticky to hold the potion together. she added. She remembered hearing something about that once before but couldn't exactly put her finger on the source.

"Crushed billywig stings and spider legs are the other ingredients. Excellent, excellent job," he grinned at the class. "Now we're going to go ahead and brew them. Don't worry if you don't get everything exactly right. This is a basic potion and should work even if you make minor mistakes. Now, come on up to get your ingredients and follow the instructions on the board."

With a flourish of his wand, words appeared on the board.





"Actually, peanut butter is a very important ingredient in a potion used to lengthen or grow hair. But, that is very good thinking."

Rachel quickly copied down the instructions and went to get her ingredients. Once she returned, she prepared her working space and put her cauldron on the fire. She added the water, lit the fire and began crushing the billy wig stings, trying not to think too much about her ingredients. Soon the water was boiling, and she began working.

Thinking that the things in the list were hair raising enough Nate pulled out his cauldron and put it in on the table in front of him.He let his cauldron heat up as he went up to the front of the classroom and gathered the ingredients.

By the time he got back to his spot his water was boiling. He crushed the billy wig wings, added them and the spider legs and watched it stew

Mariel walked up to the front of the class and collected the required ingredients. As she made her way back to her seat, she lit the fire under her cauldron in order to get the water boiling and set about preparing her other ingredients as she waited.

As she crushed the billywig stings, Mariel read the rest of the directions. Ok, next the rat tails need to be sliced, she thought to herself, further scanning the list of instructions. She grimaced as she read the last few words - before spritzing on hair. We have to try this out on ourselves? Mariel gingerly reached her hand out to touch her long, dark locks, not eager for the last step.

Astrid went up the the front and grabbed her ingredients. She got her rats tails, ewww! and the spider legs, Double ewww! and then the Billy wig stings. She took it all back to her table and picked up her cauldron to add some water. Awesome! She had everything she needed to brew her first ever potion and she was so excited.

She set her cauldron on the heat and watched as it came to a boil.While she waited, she began to crush the billy wig strings.

Allie walked up and got the ingrediants thats she needed. She layed them out neatly, and put water in her cauldron. Making sure it was only 200mL like the board said. Then started to boil the water, as the teacher instructed.
While she wiated for it to boil, she started crushing the Billy Wig Stings.

Seymour's eyes widened slightly. Brewing potions? Already? Woot. He sprang up from his seat, bounding toward the front of the class to collect his ingredients. "Professor, are we going to be covering +5 Healing Potions at any point during this term? Just to have on hand?" he asked excitedly, juggling his ingredients with his cauldron and accidentally spilling his billywig stings everywhere. "I mean, if we come across some horrid dragon on one of our quests, and our noble, knightly Prefect isn't here to protect us..." They'd probably need more than one healing potion. Or it'd be game over.

Nate had let the potion stew for 15 minutes. He looked at the board and added the sliced rat tails. What he was going to do for the next 30 minutes? He saw his friend from Ravenclaw. He smiled at her. Where they allowed to talk in class? The professor seemed wicked cool.
