Smiling brightly at the professor, "May I borrow the locket to practice some more in my dorm?" Tonks looked down at the pretty piece and looked back up shyly, "I know I got it but I'd really like to practice some more. I promise I'll bring it back."

Professor Fox shook his head. "I'm afraid not Ms. Cedarian. However, I may open up the empty arithmancy room if enough students want to practice these things on their own once class is done."

g_g figured out the first part. "okay...basis is 22 , so it affects human movement." she said. "the core is 068 so it changes the stability of movement...." she continued telling herself. "the range is 527 so....it is activated by the physical touch of humans magic....." she went on. "and the last two parts, the cline which is 1 9, so it affects the interconnectedness and unity of po..." she said concludingly....."yeah....i think that's right." she said to herself.

Serilda felt stupid; she wished she could sink into the floor.

"Oh thank-you," she jumped up brightly and placed the locket gingerly on the plate, "I'll be back to check then, thank-you for a wonderful class, I've had a great time in here." Tonks then gathered her things and skipped out of the classroom to go find the Library and put her nose back into a book.

Julie wanted to ask prf Fox a question, she raised her hand and asked: " Arithmany is the study of numbers, and it is said that numbers draw their strengths and weaknesses from the planets, and reflect the same in the lives of the people they affect, will we study any of that in this class?"

After trying the spell a bunch of times, getting knocked out once after accidently touching the locket, Brian finally got it right. He tried it a few more times and kept getting the right answer.

He decided he understud it, and started packing to leave. He said, "Proffesor, please know that not all Hufflepuff first years are as rude as the one that was in here earler."

"I meat a spell which has the properties of 527 can stop the curse?" Jessica said meaningfully.

Kimmy walked into the Arithmacy class got a seat and sat down. Then she took out her quill and parchment.light blue

"id probably do better if i had more practice..." she continued. "well....bye! thanks again!" she said. she returned to her seat and gathered up her things. she then left heading fo gryffindor tower.

"I'm afraid that's a field of Arithmancy we will not be studying this term. Rather, we will be concentrating on modern arithmancy and its applications to magic, specifically curse breaking. However, the new astronomy professor, Professor Hutchinson I believe, may be able to explain more about that to you." He nodded and moved on, helping the other students.


Professor Fox nodded. "No need to worry. Today was the first class. Perhaps you can talk to her, if she comes to my office and apologizes, I'll forget it this time, seeing as she was new and this is the first day of class."

Julie smiled and said "Thank you prof Fox, this is was a great lecture, and learned loads of things, can't wait for the second lesson." .. Julie packed her things and left class grinnning

Gabrielle (Gaby) Weasley
Hufflepuff
First Year

Gaby is unsure exactly what to do. This is her first time using her wand, and she doesn't want to look like a complete idiot. Gaby goes up to the front of the class and gets one of the lockets. Back at her desk, she points her wand at the locket and says "Arithimos Revelio!" When Gaby comes to, she notices there are no numbers floating in the air. She must have done something wrong. Gaby points her wand at the locket and tries again. There is another period of silence. When Gaby comes to, she sees the numbers 28072569 floating in front of her. Well at least she got number to show up even if they are the wrong ones.

Professor Fox nodded politely to the latecomer. "Ah, Ms. Weasley. You almost have it. I wouldn't worry, a good amount of practice and you'll get better. Just like transfiguration, charms, and defense against the dark arts, arithmancy comes naturally easier to some people. However, hard work always produces a better arithmancer than sheer talent." He said, trying to encourage her. "In fact, I had to work twice as hard at arithmancy than I did at ancient runes. So, keep up the good work. If you have questions, let me know."

In the beginning she couldn't get what the older students and the professor were talking about, but she soon caught up with everything.

Analyzing the complexities of numbers always confused Kay, but she always seemed to grasp and understand the task at hand. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths to clear her mind. It took a few minutes of meditation but when her mind finally cleared, she could see the task at hand. Kay was able to envision herself performing the incantation and the numbers appearing over the locket.

She opened her eyes slowly and took a deep breath as she raised her wand hand. Pointing the wand at the locket, she said in a firm and clear voice "Arithmos Revelio!" The numbers appeared clear and in full over the locket. In fact, the numbers were in the correct order! She had done the spell correctly.

Professor Fox nodded politely. "Excellent Job Ms. Harrison," he said watching her complete the spell. He turned his attention to Cookie, and gave a somewhat strange look at her name. Then deciding that certain parents simply cannot be trusted with appropriate names for their children, like his squib brother Merlin, he simply smiled and nodded. "Very good Ms. Malfoy. See? Hard work and dilligence pay off."

Gaby blushes at the professor noticing her work. "Thank you, professor. I find Arithmance most interesting. I just hope I can master it before the term is over." Gaby points her wand at the locket and tries again.

Jack pulled out a piece of parchment and wrote

Lb walked up to the desk and got one of the lockets. He took it back to his seat and prepared to perform the spell. Lb pulls out his wand and points it at the locket. "Arithimos Revelio", he says with his eyes close while concentrating very hard on the numbers. He notices that the numbers didn't appear when he opens his eyes so he tries again. This time, the numbers 1643586559 appear. Lb curses himself for not getting it done the second time around, so he closes his eyes and begins to concentrate the hardest that he has ever done in his eyes. "Arithimos Revelio", he shouts and opens his eyes. This time the numbers 2808052749 appeared in front of him. Lb is excited that he got the work done. He walks over and replaces the locket. Afterwards, he exits the classrooms.

Rosa got a plate with a box on it and carried it to her table, putting it right on the parchment with her notes and the scrap of parchment reading:

She got her wand out of her bag, still a bit surprised. She'd never thought she'd be using her wand in arithmancy and that had been exactly what she liked about the subject. she pulled her notes out from under the plate to make sure it wasn't rivilio, or something like that. Then she said 'arithmos revelio!' ,pointing her wand at the box. A few numbers appeared, but before she could read them, they fell apart. Well, that wasn't bad for a first try...
she pointed her wand at it to try again and accidentally brushed the box. One second or so, she couldn't move. then she fell back into her chair and let out a nervous giggle, before she raised to try again.

OOC: This is what I get for leaving right towards the end of class. I read through the pages I missed but I still don't really understand, do the other boxes have the same curse that we analyzed in class, or a different one. Because you mentioned that they all have the same one, but I see people posting different numbers, hence different curses. I'm a bit confused, but I shall go with the same one we analayzed earlier because if not, I'll just get myself deeper into confusion. OR I think I will just not even mention the numbers before I confuse everyone else as well.
OOC: The different numbers just indicate the students aren't doing the spell quite right. Just like in Transfiguration, a poorly done spell can turn a flower into a fan instead of a feather.

Alex hesitated slightly at the thought of having to go near the box, but then again, that wasn't so bad. She got up out of her seat and wandered over where she picked up one of the cursed boxes. The girl hurried back over, placed it on her desk, and took her wand out after studying it carefully for a few minutes.

"Arithmos Revelio!" she said quietly and pointed the wand straight at the box. The numbers had appeared and were floating in the air. Narrowing her eyes slightly, she looked at them intently, debating whether or not she should try to analyze them. Mind, this had messed with her head enough, but kudos to Fox for one of the best lessons she'd had while at Hogwarts.

"Professor," Alex said slowly, her hand raised, "how do people put curses on certain objects in the first place?"

Ashley got up to get a locket and said"Arithmos Revelio" and got the numbers 2808052749.Then went to put the locket back then went to see what other classes have started.

Professor Fox nodded to the students as they exited. "Well done. Continue reading the chapter everyone." He walked to Alex and examined the numbers losely. "Well done Ms. Kay. Yes, we will learn about that in a few lessons. More importantly, we will learn one method to prevent your wards and spells from being discovered by such a simple spell. Was that all?"
