The staff sit at the front of the hall, waiting for the Headmistress to welcome everyone back to school before they can enjoy their feast.

The Headmistress sat quietly at the head table as the students filed into the Great Hall. They looked tired and a bit weary, probably as much from the stress at the beginning of their trip as from the trip itself. She waited as they seated themselves at the long, empty tables before rising to speak to the students as a group.

Professor Virohsa sat down quietly. Her eyes lingering at some of the Slytherin students.. Moving her eyes across the room, she waited for the students to settle in. This should certainly be an interesting term..

Yarns sat at the leftmost chair of the long table, balancing on the hind two legs with his feet stretched out to the floor in front of him. He rocked on the chair slowly, surveying the arriving students with a calm but intense look.

Eyeing up along the staff table, he notices some faces vaguely familiar from his years at Hogwarts and many more completely unknown to him. He debates with himself whether he should start a conversation or not. Yarns starts a sentence, but transforms it into a sort of grunt-cough; for he realised he really had nothing to say.

Doyle walked into the great hall and sat down at the staff table, relieved to be finished with the harrowing experience of accompanying children on the Knight Bus.

Healer Brunel quietly entered the Great Hall and sat at the staff table. He was glad they had all arrived safe in Hogwarts, although he was particularly tired. He watched as the students arrived and sat down.

McAiken enters the noisy hall. He walks up the center aisle towards the staff table. He stops in front of the Headmistress' seat and bows his head out of respect for her. He then moving around the table and notices the seat marked with his name. Unlike daily meals the seats on staff table during the feast are assigned. McAiken notices his position on the right of the Headmistress. Before he sat down he approached Rae. He bends down and in a soft voice said, "The trip was mostly uneventful. The students were a little jumpy when we first arrived at King's Crossing with the buses. Most of the younger one settled down when we boarded the buses and were on our way. A few didn't like releasing their owl to fly to owlery but we assured them the owls would arrive safely. A certain group of older students seem to think the construction at the platform was the work of Voldemortist. I've told them it wasn't but they are being slow to accept it was a simple Muggle accident. That's I have to report at the time. So, if I may take my leave I'll sit down."

Rae looked at the staff gathering around her and took a deep breath. She wasn't sure if she was ready to address the student body, but she had to be. She rose and put up her hands, waiting until the students had fallen silent before speaking.

"Thank you. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Cassandra Rae. I'm the Headmistress and the Defense against the Dark Arts instructor. Returning students, welcome back. New students... I hope your term at Hogwarts is all that you hope it will be. There are a few announcements I need to make, and then you can all dig into the meal prepared for you by the house elves."

She touched her hair self-consciously before continuing. "First, I'd like to welcome the new staff members. We have a new professor in Potions, Ancient Runes, Divination, Astronomy, and Arithmancy. I'd like to welcome back to the staff Professor Lainey and Professor Evans, and I'd like to let you all know that Professor Dainsie is now teaching Care of Magical Creatures. Please make every effort to welcome our new professors. As always, there are very specific rules in place in the school, and you are all encouraged to learn them and love them. Our caretaker may be familiar to me... Mr. Borr has returned this year to ensure that all detentions are carried out fully and to the most benefit."

"Last, I wanted to touch briefly on the occurence at King's Cross Station. I know that there are probably already rumors and theories forming," she looked specifically at the Slytherin table before continuing. "I fear that I'm letting you down to tell you that there is nothing sinister in what occurred. Only this morning, we received word that some Muggle construction and renovation at the terminal had accidentally damaged some of the masking wards the Ministry had put in place. Fortunately, the train had not yet arrived, and the Muggles believe they've found an old, unused terminal. The train should be operational again at the end of the term after the Ministry has had time to step in. If you have any additional questions or concerns about this incident, I ask you to seek me out personally, as I'm the one the Ministry has been in contact with."

"While the incident itself it harmless. the outcome is another matter. I've been informed that due to recent events and to the fact that once again the students were put into danger beyond our immediate control, the Ministry wants to close Hogwarts and open several smaller schools within their immediate jurisdiction. They'll be sending a representative here later in the term to discuss this with the staff. I propose..." She looked at the staff. She hadn't run this by them yet, as it was new information, but she felt sure they'd support her.

"I propose we prepare ourselves for the visit in several ways. First, I'm going to put up a suggestion box to welcome student suggestions on unifying the school and making it safer. Second, we're going to offer several in-house competitions this term to make the school more cohesive and more beautiful and to promote house pride. Last, I'm asking you as a student body to come together to make this a term of equity, peace, and unity. We can make this official understand that we are working towards making Hogwarts better than ever and keep our beloved school. Or... we can fail, and Hogwarts will cease to exist. The decision really rests on you."

She took a deep breath and smiled one last time. "I don't mean to scare you. We have plenty of time to worry on this issue, so for now... eat and be happy. Get a good night's sleep. Classes will begin shortly. Have a wonderful term." Rae clapped her hands and food appeared on each table. With a sigh of relief, she sank into her seat.

"Have you always been this long winded?" Lainey asked, poking at Rae as she took the seat beside her. She grinned admiringly at her, Lainey's eyes letting her know that she thought her speech was good. "I hope the person the Ministry sends to inspect us ..is that man that was replacing you. I'll show him...," Anj said with a nice jab into her potato.

McAiken sips he wine as he listens to Rae address the students. He scans the student to see if they are relaxing after her speech. Unity at Hogwarts would a nice thing to have he thought as he began to serve his self from the just appearing platter of great food. He chose a helping of salad to begin his meal. He was very fond of salad very since he went to America on a trip. He chuckled quietly as he recalled a thing the Yanks called a Salad Bar. He began to eat.

"I think they fired him," Rae laughed, not looking at Anj as she mutilated her food. "Or maybe he never showed up for work again. I'm glad I got a new office, because my old one smells like burnt niffler fur. It's disgusting." She poured herself a glass of juice and nodded in the direction of the students. "The first years are spirited this year. And I'm pretty sure the Slytherins hate me." She shrugged with one shoulder and sipped her juice.

"My office looks... a lot like an asylum. I fit right in." Lainey grinned proudly and folded her napkin over. "And.. the Slytherins.. well, we never have been high in their book have we? Remember that time..," Lainey started in telling about some prank she and Rae pulled, but stopped short at the sight of McAiken.

"Don't stop, remember I was a Gryff so any prank pulled on the Slythrins is most likely very funny in my book. I pulled a few in my student days on them," McAiken said when he noticed Lainey had stopped talking when she saw him beside Rae.

Lainey had always been good at covering up things, but the unstoppable red was creeping up neck was spreading to her face. "Oh.. right." Lainey had almost forgotten the story she was going to tell, but thankfully recovered. "Well, Rae and I.. found our way into a secret passage. This castle is full of them. But anyway, we somehow ended up above the Slytherin showers. And... it just so happens that we a had a dungbomb or two on hand. And.. one or two of those dung bombs found their way into the Slytherin water. They all stunk for a week. It was great." Lainey picked up her goblet and toasted to Rae. "I give her all the props. All our Headmistress's idea."

Kate was famished; it felt like she hadn't eaten in a year. She gave a nod at the end of the Headmistress' speech, and then decended on the food that had appeared at the table. She took a special interest in some green beans that had appeared right in front of her, and soon she was happily eating as much as possible.

McAiken laughed when he heard the story. My final year here, I was captain of the Quidditch team. Kobus and Gideon were on the team. The Slytherin Head of House kept giving his house special premission to practice when we normally did. So we missed several practice. Fed up, I wanted a way to put a stop to it. I read so many books on brooms my eyes hurt and the Librarian thought I was going to be a broom maker. Finally I found a very simple but hard to detect and reverse jinx that made the brooms fly in circles. The Slytherins pushed off and all they could do was fly in circles. They were so drunk by the time I reseverse the spell and they were able to land. Seems only the spellcaster could undo the jinx. I was never caught."

Lainey stared in awe a giggle escaping her lips. "That's brilliant. Really." Lainey stomped on Rae's foot. Lainey was giggling in public. So unlike herself. "The Slytherins.. they'll warm up to you Rae. Or cut your braids off. Either way, you'll be closer. Don't you think, Professor?" Lainey raised her eyes to glance at him.

It felt good to laugh again, McAiken thought. He heard Lainey speaking to Rae and him. He said, "Yes, the Slytherin will fine. They will either warm to you or try to make your life a living Hades but that more about who they are rather than who you are. All we can do is our best. Hopefully as things settle down they can see us not only as their teacher but more as mentors which is what I consider several of my Hogwarts teachers to be...well, I did once I got over beening scared of them."

Professor Dainsie makes her way in discretely and slightly late, due to the fact that she was checking the two buses for any straggling students or misplaced possessions. Having made sure they were completely empty, she thanked the drivers and watched as they disappeared into the darkness.

She gives a slight wink and a nod to both Professor Rae and McAiken, and takes her seat at the table. She looks excitedly around the hall and takes in the atmosphere.

Professor Serena Kotkin looked around nervously. She was excited to be back at Hogwarts, but overwhelmed with the responsibility of having to teach all of these students before her now. It was so much easier being the student. She smiled over at the other Professors hoping they wouldn't notice the anxiety on her face. She so wanted to make a good first impression.

Looking down at the food, she calmed a bit. "Ah, I always loved the food here!" Famished, she dug into the mashed potatoes, and turkey and gravy, and peas... "Mmmmmm!"

Professor Virohsa nodded once the Headmistress' speech was done. She continued to glance about the room as she placed some of the food on her plate. She could kinda hear Professor Lainey telling one of her many adventures. Turning her attention somewhere else in her thoughts, she started to eat her delicious food. It would surely be an interesting year. At least, they had a Headmistress that had earned the job.. not stolen it.

Professor Fox quietly entered the staff table from the side, trying to make as little notice as possible. He sat down silently in one of the open seats, nodding apologetically to all those seated. Pouring himself a cup of tea and putting a light amount of food on his plate, he let out a deep sigh of relief.

Rae looked scandalized as she touched the braid wrapped around her head. "They wouldn't dare... and I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't spread around what a disaster we were when we were here, Anj. We don't need the kiddos to know that we were once holy terrors," her tone was fierce but her eyes sparkled with humor.

"I like for them to know that they can't get away with anything. Anything they've done.. I've already beat them to it ten times over." Lainey yawned. "Everyone did arrive safe and sound, hmm?" Lainey asked, lowering her voice significantly.

"Everything went absolutely smoothly," Rae assured her. "Aside from that part where the Muggles were clumsy and broke the wards at King's Cross. Can you imagine... do you think that's a sign about how my first term is going to go?" She looked concerned for a moment. "Have you seen Wit?"
