Slytherin Table

For those who belong in Slytherin House, on the right side of the Great Hall is where your table awaits. Green banners containing an embroidered silver snake float above the polished table in honour of the cunning Salazar Slytherin. Already placed on the tables are silver plates with accompanying cutlery and goblets. All that is missing right now are the mountains of food and pitchers containing your favourite beverages.

Though your stomach might be growling as you take a seat on one of the long benches next to the table, it is important to not get hangry -- gnawing your arm away or jabbing your fork repeatedly on the surface of the table will do no good whatsoever. Give everyone some time to get settled in and wait for Headmaster Winterbottom to deliver his speech. Keep yourself preoccupied by catching up with your fellow housemates or those who are visiting from the other tables until it is time to sink your teeth into the hearty and delicious meal prepared by the house-elves.

Ary felt oddly grown up as he took a place at the Slytherin Table. Sure, he wasn’t a fifth year or whatever but third year! Time had certainly zoomed by, as evidenced of his lengthened form. Wasn’t it just recently he was under five feet and a firstie? Oh well. He wasn’t complaining.

During all the chaos of everyone settling in at their respective Tables and amidst all the chatter, Aryan scanned the Staff Table, checking out the one new face. DeVries certainly would be missed but he trusted that the new Herbology professor would do the position justice. With this bit out of the way, the teen braced himself for the Sorting. Here’s to many hardworking Slytherins to help keep that House Cup!

It was times like these she wished her summoning abilities were more proficient. The book Gillyweed had spent the entire train ride devouring had come to an end. While she was grateful to have all of that knowledge processing in her mind, she was now stuck having to experience a feast without any reading material. Worst of all, in her opinion, she was more than likely would have to socialise beyond her usual few words of acknowledgment.

Despite dreading having to sit through a feast without the written word to occupy her, there was some relief that she was one of the first to arrive at the table. Even better, she instantly took note of a face she was familiar with, which meant she didn't have to think very hard about where to sit and wouldn't have to awkwardly wait around for someone she was comfortable with to arrive.

"Hi, Aryan," she addressed her friend, seating herself directly across from him. "Did Drake manage to wander off already?" Such a thing wouldn't surprise Gilly; her twin had a habit of going wherever the wind took him. Nevertheless, she hoped he would make an appearance soon. She was going to need him there to help her get through the long, bookless feast.

Natasha sauntered her way over to the slytherin table, flipping her hair back over the shoulder - obviously showing off the highlights in her hair. She’d grown a bit taller over the summer too and she was suuuper pleased about it.

"Hi, cuties." She greeted her year mates with the brightest of smiles.

Where had the summer gone?

It had seemed to drag on for ages but at the same time fly by in the blink of her gorgeous blue eyes. Days filled with ninja warrior training, hanging around with friends, time with her family (ALL of them!) and just being a thirteen year old.

Quite literally bouncing her way into the Great Hall, Bry made her way straight for the Slytherin table, her sights set on the few faces there already that she knew. "Hey Gilly! Hiya Natasha! How was your summer?" She asked the girls, a bright smile on her face as she plopped herself down right beside Aryan like she always did. "Hey AryBear." The still rather small for her age blonde greeted him as well with a gentle nudge. "Anyone new up there?" Her gaze shifted to settle on the Staff Dais like his. Her mama had warned her that there would be some changes again this term (not that this was unusual or anything) but she hadn't gone into detail on any of the changes!

Speaking of changes... Did her bright wandering eyes deceive her or was that VERA sporting some bright flaming red hair and oh my gosh! The glitter!!! She wanted some! Flail! Nudge nudge! Sorry Ary put lookit! Bry couldn't help but point out her big brothers girlfriend AND her FRIEND!

Sydney made her way to the table on the far right side of the room… the Slytherin table. Her grayish-blue eyes scanned the table as she took the nearest available seat, taking in its occupants. It wasn’t that she was intimidated by the other students. Age was only a number; there were more important things like smarts and talent. Unfortunately, social skills were not her forte, and only fools rushed into a situation without knowing what they were up against.

They seemed a mostly friendly bunch so far. After quietly observing for a few moments, Sydney spoke up. “Hello. I’m Sydney,” she introduced herself, more out of pride than anything else. She didn’t want her new housemates to get the wrong impression of her, that she was too shy and nervous to talk. If they engaged her, maybe she’d say more. Maybe not… depending on how interesting the conversation was.

Whereas Gilly was dreading the Feast because of the lack of a book in her possession, Ary was sort of dreading it because as much as he was looking forward to The Sorting, he was anxious to head up to his dorm. Why? Because he wasn’t feeling rather social; he was in need of quiet moments. That was why he had slipped away from his friends after disembarking the Express. Gilly’s presence was welcomed because he was just about the only close person in his life that appreciated silence as much as he did. “Hi, Gills! Actually, I was the one who got away from everyone.” The guy grinned sheepishly. “Wanted some alone time before I got stuck in a Hall full of noisy people.” But enough about him. “Where’s your book?”

It sure seemed that Aryan was the only one that had grown over the summer. “Hi, Natasha. Ready to take on third year?” And there came the first happy-go-lucky-bouncy bestie of his. “Hi, Bry.” He gave her a bright smile, hoping it would win her over and not make her question why he had disappeared earlier. “Oh, yeah,” Ary said, snapping up the topic to further distract Bry. “Herbology.” Of course, he already knew who had taken over as Groundskeeper since he had been over at Jan's place during the summer; there had been two certain professors enjoying the holiday there too. “Hope they’re not too strict.” The third year lapsed into silence again. Talking seemed extra exhausting this evening.

Then just like that, he was being nudged rather viciously. His eyes trailed to Bry then in the direction of her pointing. It took him a while to fully understand what he was seeing but his brain eventually caught up. “Is that a new fashion thing?” Ary didn’t know and he didn’t really care. This was rather the wrong time for a craving for silence to come over him. With the aim of improving his mood, he dipped into a pocket to retrieve a paperclip. He’d focus on creating something for now.

Naturally, there were firsties and transfer students joining the Slytherin table after being Sorted into the House. However, Ary was too antisocial intent on his paperclip crafting that he barely spared Sydney a smile and a few words. “Hi, I’m Ary.” Sorry, Sydney! Maybe tomorrow he’d be in a better mood for conversing.

She was prepared for fifth year. Well, Giselle believed she was and that was what mattered. Visualization and all, and she wasn’t about to let anyone in on any concerns she might’ve had regarding exams and such anyway. That was for her siblings, Brandon and Rome. Everyone else was beside the point, or at least below her level of importance unless she needed them for something.

She wasn’t about to charm any of the third years who had so far made their appearance at the Snake table for snogging purposes. Especially not the ones who were practically family as is. But she’d slid into a seat nearby, carefully applied dark green and silver eye makeup with tiny snakes as graphic liner her only indication of pride for her house, and only then turned her attention toward the others.

And subsequently the other students who had gotten the youngest Paton’s attention had also been noticed, although she merely arched an eyebrow to show her opinion. “Hi all”, she said instead, returning her gaze to the younger Snakes. And the obvious newcomer among them. Her sister and Sophia weren’t visible, nor any of the others as of yet, so it was her job to take responsibility with a smile.

“Welcome to Slytherin, Sydney.” She meant it. New snakes were always welcome.

With his Sorting over, Elio could relax a little bit, sure, but he was still doing his best to appear pretty much unconcerned with what was going on around him. Actually, it wasn't really that difficult. There really was just so much happening around him, all these unfamiliar people in an unfamiliar setting, that most of Elio's energy went towards taking it all in. He just needed to keep his expression schooled and bam, sorted. Cool as a cucumber.

It wasn't just that he didn't want to appear nervous or anxious or whatever, but that he also didn't want to appear overawed or anything. Because he wasn't. He was cool. Ice cold. He had a handle on all this. Most importantly, he knew how to look after himself.

Now seated at the Slytherin table, Elio had gone on watching the Sorting, but he didn't actually say anything for a while after sitting down. He happened to be sat near to where another first year had joined the table. Sydney, her name was. Elio turned to look at the her and a bunch of older students once he heard her give her name, and figured now was as good a time as any to throw his own into the mix as well.

"I'm Elio."

The entire train ride was a bit of a blur to the sixth year. SIXTH YEAR. That was a whole other kind of blur. Solomon still felt like a lost first year within these castle walls, at times, not helped by his poor attempt at his OWL exams last year. Was that something that he was hoping to climb back from this year? No. In fact, he couldn’t be more disheartened.

Once seated, Solomon ignored every welcome to Slytherin being exchanged, every how was your summer? The start of term feast was such a dull drag, honestly, and he hoped to remain aloof and nobody would bother him. Not even sparing a stare for any of the other house tables like he usually would, he had a small desire to sit beside Sage but after a quick glance and failing to locate her, his thoughts moved on to more pressing matters. FOOD and going to bed.

Ah, the food was exactly as smashing as he remembered. Solly loaded his plate rather high.

Where was Bronny? Dia? Naturally, they were the first two people that Astrid had tried looking for when she was being guided to the Slytherin table. Because, obviously, she wanted to sit beside them. They definitely saw her sorting, yes? It was impossible to miss! The Boss Baby only gets sorted once in her life.

But a gentle nudge from the person who had ushered her, someone probably with authority in this place (hmph), led to Astrid Grimaldi being forced to sit beside the other newly-sorted first years. Which! Was not a bad thing per se, but this had not been the intention! She wanted to sit beside family tonight. A little pout and sigh hadn't helped her, unfortunately.

No matter. She was going to see her older sibcousins tonight anyway. Astrid wasn't going to let a minor inconvenience ruin her first night at Hogwarts, though, so she turned to look at her fellow first years nearby. She gave the boy (Elio) and the girl (Sydney) a smile each. "Hello."

Drake hadn't meant to be one of the students at the back of the pack entering the Great Hall. And he certainly hadn't meant to get held up in the Entrance hall either. But there had been a younger student, obviously a first year by the look of it, who had seemed so nervous about the sorting and that no house would want him that he couldn't have just left. So he'd paused and then he'd stood over by the door until the boy was sorted promptly into Hufflepuff before he'd moved as quickly as possible to join his peers over at the Slytherin table.

in fact, he had juuuuuuust slid into a seat he'd made for himself next to his sister as the Headmaster stood and began his speech. Not wanting to distract anyone, Drake simply offered smiles to those already seated - his friends and fellow third years, Aryan, Bryony and Natasha all getting the brightest as Gilly got a slight nudge to the ribs - before his eyes turned towards the dais.

He tried, really he did, to pay attention to the speech but... so far the last few years had seemed the so same that he quickly found himself no longer listening and instead crossing his arms tightly over his stomach to hush the noise gurgling from within. As if he had not consumed a ridiculous amount of snacks on the train. The moment Winterbottom was finished and food appeared, Drake quickly began to fill a plate - only pausing to look at the new Slytherins - Sydney, Elio and the latest (Astrid). "Hi you lot! Welcome to Slytherin!" Not much a conversationalist, he had nothing else to add so he went back to the important matter at hand.

Laini had been SooOOooOOoo upset that her time on stage had been cut short by the premature announcement of her House. Like, shouldn't everyone get the same amount of time? Hadn't the founders heard of EQUITY? It was so unfair. She'd be telling the Headmaster immediately. Well. As immediately as she could. Maybe after the feast if she remembered. She would not.

So, yeah. Of course she was upset! Her moment had been whisked away from her in the matter of a light head tap.

But she wasn't upset anymore because three minutes had passed and she was over it now. Naturally. Before making her way to her new House, however, she still haaaaad to make her rounds to Gryffindor and Hufflepuff house to hug Mikey and Olive. Her original plan involved complaining to them, but it, instead, turned into a big love fest. She missed them already!! Besides! Everyone seemed to be so busy still with all the rest of the sortings (which, by the way, were taking WAAAAAY longer than hers had, but who's counting?). So she wandered off to say hello and then slipped into a spot at the Slytherin table just as swiftly.

Wanting to be in the center of the action, she elbowed her way into the middle of the first year crowd - Sydney, Astrid, bestie Elio). "Hi, I'm LAINI!" Though she directed her introduction to the other first years, she threw her hands up in the air and used her projecting voice so that everyone else would know too. "I'm a FIRST YEAR too! Only the hat really rushed with me." But again. Who's keeping track? Not Laini. She was soooo passed that.

Anyway, she turned, wearing a huuuuuuuge broad grin when she looked over at Elio who she had conveniently squished herself next to. "HEY! I know you!" Kind of. Which meant they had to be best friends now because Laini really wanted a best friend and he was the one she had most history with, making the choice EASY PEASY. "Do you remember me?" She also absolutely recognized Astrid Grimaldi, but she wasn't going to be a WEIRDO about it.
