Which do you prefer, the films or the books?
And why?

Both hold special places in every Potterhead's heart, but which do you prefer? Do you enjoy revisiting Hogwarts on paper in the original 7 novels written by J.K Rowling or as a feast for the eyes in the 8 screen adaptions? Let us know and why!

I love both, but the books for me are number one. Too many changes were made in the movies, and the more I reread the books, the more I notice them unfortunately. I listen to the Jim Dale audiobook version and it soothes me! lol

Oh, the books everytime. More detail, more story. Plus, they include a lot more awesome HP moments. Like many fans say, some of the best parts of the books are those when Harry and Co. are just hangin', being kids.

The books are my favorite for a simple reason. They have more information.

The movies cut out certain parts of the books (as they do most books anyways) and I see that I don't really prefer what the movies have to show- but rather what the movies DONT show.

The movies are really great adaptations, but there's nothing like the books for me. It was the books that grabbed hold of me and kept me all this time. I was actually Harry's age (11) when I got my first copy of the Sorceror's Stone for Christmas. The series had been out for a few years, but I'd never heard of it. Once I read that first page, I was fully hooked and have never gone back.

ive always been a bookworm, and will always prefer books better, as my imagination is wild and needs to be released,
the movies are good, great for visuals really, but nothing can beat pen on paper

The books, without a shadow of a doubt. I was actually very disappointed with many aspects of the movies as they each came out. As a child, I was so excited to see my favorite stories depicted on the big screen, especially after watching the incredible adaption of Lord of the Rings into a movie that felt so true to the spirit of the books and yet adapted what was quite challenging to put onto the screen in such a masterful way. I know many fans started out with the movies and some even never even read the books, and that is totally fine. But the personalities of the characters are absolutely different and purposely made so in many complex and insidious ways in the movies with the way that the script and events were changed. There were things that neutered the characters personalities, odd changes such as significantly aging up Sirius and the other Marauders to middle age (50s instead of early 30s), which ultimately greatly changes their relationship to other adults in the story and to Harry and his friends. There are many more changes. Many people remark on how the script favored Hermione at the detriment of Ron, but Harry's character also greatly changed so that it was almost unrecognizable to me in the movies. His sassy and sarcastic nature, his anger and outbursts tempered by the love and loyalty he felt for those around him and his morals, and all that made him a unique and complex protagonist was very much watered down with a script and depiction that made him look like a calm, quiet, somewhat reserved normal boy who keeps being picked on by those around him and takes it in stride--the absolute opposite of his character in the books. Reminder that there is a reason the hat wavered between Slytherin and Griffindor when sorting him!

I think both are good but the books win in my heart because I think it has more detail and its good if you want something thats a little longer to read and I love reading or listening a longer book so the books are perfect for me.

Although I was introduced to the series and ultimately fell in love with it after the first film, nothing can compare the books. They contain more detailed information, back-stories, side-stories, and better character development.

The books! They are absolutely amazing!
I think the movies (especially the last ones) lack some details and some logic...

I prefer the books because they are the original source material. But the movies are fun in their own way. I'm really looking forward to the new show on Max!

I think I enjoy the book better simply because whenever I read them, I read them in my dads voice seeing as he read them to me when I was too little to read them on my own

While I enjoy the films for what they are, I will always love the books. So far, my imagination has proved more powerful than anything movies tend to be able to do!

definitely the books. The movies were alright. But I'll never understand why movies vary from books in terms of script. Why write a new script? You have the exact script right there already!

Default Words do be hard, books do be long.

I love the books don't get me wrong, the world building and the characters that appear in the books aren't a patch on the films, but dyslexia made reading the books a chore at times. Now I still persevered and made it through but not having the barrier made the films a more enjoyable experience for me personally.

The movies were amazing except they did not follow the complete storyline of the books...although you are able to truly experience Hogwarts through the films.

Default Books are better!

I pretty much always think the book is better than the movie. With Harry Potter that is true as well although I do think they did a great job translating the books to movies and the casting is amazing!

Love both the books and the movies. Will have to side with the books just because of how much material the movies left out, but the two different art forms have different set backs. It's so much more exciting seeing the characters and the action sequences in the movies

I enjoy the books way more than the movies because they give more details. There's so many people/creatures in the books that aren't in the movies. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the movies, but hands down, the books are way better.
