Which do you prefer, the films or the books?
And why?

Both hold special places in every Potterhead's heart, but which do you prefer? Do you enjoy revisiting Hogwarts on paper in the original 7 novels written by J.K Rowling or as a feast for the eyes in the 8 screen adaptions? Let us know and why!

I would say that with my hand on heart I am going to say I did enjoy watching the films and the video of Chamber of secrets but I really enjoyed reading the books

abstract 02-11-2019 08:18 PM

I thoroughly enjoyed the movies, but the books take it for me. Yes, I loved seeing the Wizarding World with my own two eyes, but nothing is better than what you can see in your imagination. I also felt as if they left some thing out of the movies that really should've been there.

Loopy luna 02-18-2019 07:40 PM

I love the books more than the movies.
I can get lost in the pages and imagine myself in that world.
Also I connect more with a book than the movie Version Of it.

AnnWa 02-20-2019 10:23 AM

I like both, but if I had to choose, I would choose books, cuz films couldn't manage to cover all the content from the books, that's a disappointing fact, but anyway, movies are fine to watch with friends.

AccioWU 03-01-2019 02:26 PM

Personally, I think the movies are fun, but the books are magic. I remember talking to adult friends who hadn't read the books and had trouble following things in the movies because they weren't properly explained (though kids just go with it, I haven't met a kid who only watched the films and had any issue).
But I'm a book person. I'll watch the films if they're on the tv or if I'm doing something else and want something fun in the background, but I love reading and rereading the books. It's a different experience.

Fireheart 03-20-2019 08:36 PM

I love both, and they offer very different experiences. The movies are great because they bring the magic from the pages to life, but nothing beats the detail and style of the books. The books were what I first was exposed to, and they still remain my favorite. Although the movies are wonderful, too - especially when you want to experience Harry Potter with your family and friends.

Gryffindor4ever 03-27-2019 06:36 PM

I love both of them but honestly the books are irreplaceable. I loved watching everything unfold infront of me in the movies but the books are simply magical, being able to imagine and see everything in your minds eye and temporarily get away from reality to the wonderful wizarding world

AccioMarauders 03-31-2019 10:47 PM

The books ... it was nice seeing some things brought to life with the movies, but the movies just don't compare to the books.

Emzeer 04-05-2019 09:34 PM

I loved the films, and though I get that not everything can be included/ details changed, I do miss some of the bits of the books - the character's sassiness in some cases, the bits in the books that made me cry with laughter would have, in my opinion, worked so well in the films.

gritandgrace 04-14-2019 02:07 AM

I love both the books and movies! BUT I find the books to be fully immersive.

harleysJoker1 04-17-2019 02:50 AM

i love both the books and movies but i love the books more they have more detail in them .

Nosilla 04-17-2019 03:06 AM

The books really do it for me more than the movies. They offer so much more than the movies! The audiobooks especially thrust you into the world! I am often brought to tears just by the thought of it (but thats hormones for you!) The plot fell together so much better too! I mean don't get me started on Prisoner of Azkaban!

Riverz 04-20-2019 10:07 PM

I find it more relaxing and myself more engaged reading the books.

Felix_Felicis 04-26-2019 11:37 PM

I really love both of them. When I was younger I would have probably said that I preferred the books, but now it's really close. I enjoy the magic of re-reading it, but there's also something that's really enjoyable about sitting down, being able to see this whole world that has been beautifully crafted and feels real and be able to share that with other people at the same time to experience it together.

Slytherin Fox 05-13-2019 11:45 PM

To me. I enjoy the books the most! There is always a lot more detail.

Alavander 05-26-2019 07:23 PM

Books. By a million miles. So much more information. Films are great to watch, but so much more goes on In the books...

michal 06-05-2019 09:13 AM

Books are better, I love to imagine all details :)

jes_clyku 06-16-2019 07:51 PM

The books were better for me. There's so much more information and you get to read about what the characters are thinking and feeling.

Saturma 06-21-2019 04:58 PM

Books. I love the movies, especially the music. And while I really love Hermione, I never much cared for the fact that they kind of took everything that was great about Ron in the books, and gave it to Hermione, and just made Ron this sort of nasty friend who gets mad at you for no reason, because the movies never explain anything properly. Also there's no Peeves in the movies, such a shame.

mjknight 06-25-2019 10:09 PM

While the movies are fantastic, I would rather revisit the Wizarding World via the books. I love being able to read through all of the descriptions of the world, the people, and the creatures, and be able to fabricate the scene in my head for myself. Plus there's always those favorite parts that never make it to the movies, so I prefer to visit Harry over and over again by reading the books instead.

sourpatchkid 07-06-2019 04:36 AM

I really do like both. I was introduced to the both by my friend in elementary school, and have so many nice memories of watching the movies with my father and friend and remember talking about the books constantly with my friend. So both

AbbiMarigold 07-13-2019 09:18 PM

Gotta be the books, i'm afraid just by the nature of having to get everything wrapped up in 3 hours and for £300million pounds means you cant afford the little things like peeves the poltergeist or an explanation of the deathly hallows XD

The films are well cast the particularly for the teachers... and the child actors are some of the least wooden, yeah they are terrible but they are good for children...

HouserHouseCreations 07-16-2019 10:44 PM

The books! How could there be any other answer, lol! The movies were great as well, but ya gotta read the books!

whiteroseoftudor 07-24-2019 10:53 PM

As a Bookworm I loved the books and there are many things I find issues with the movies but I love them as well. I enjoy the books because there is more depth to them and leaves more for imagination.
