Default Wand Fitting

Just as you enter the shop, in between all the chaos that may or may not have been going on, is a rather open area with a measuring tape that seems to be hovering in mid air. It wiggles and flies around, ready to measure the next customer to walk into it's range. The measuring tape will eagerly measure your height, the reach of your arm, and maybe even other strange measurements to help the wandmakers find the best wand for you.

In front of the counter there is the empty space that is designated as the fitting area. Here is where wands are fitted. After being measured by the magical measuring tape, you will be assisted by a worker who will then endeavor to fit you with your perfect wand and start pulling boxes from the shelves, which stretch back impossibly far and up so high that even the tallest people have to tip their head back to see the tops.

Long sliding ladders are attached to every stretch of shelves, and the wandmakers make great use of these to reach those wands which are tucked away high up. There seems to be a filing system of sorts, some kind of method to the madness, though most of the boxes are unmarked. Is it a colour code? Or is it shape? size? smell? Something else? Well you'll never know unless you get a job here. Luckily, and out of sheer necessity, these shelves have been bespelled so that wandboxes are not in danger of flying everywhere due to errant spells cast by children wielding their new wands.

Text Cut: wand fitting instructions

⌦ In order to receive a wand, please take the WAND QUIZ ONCE for the character who is here for a wand. Then, post your character being measured by the "magical measuring tape" ONCE in this thread. This thread is not one where you should interact with others, one post here please! It serves as our queue!

See the example post below, or look at other posts in this thread from previous terms.

Text Cut: example post
Jessica went into Ollivanders with more than her share of nerves, it was time for her first wand! The eleven year old made her way over to the measuring area and waited for her turn. Soon enough the measuring tape reached her and began zipping about, straightening with a snap and measuring out her height and, when she held her arms out, she watched it take a measurement of how long they were too. Fun! Did that mean her wand would be as big as her whole arm?

The girl stepped away from the measuring area and she eagerly waited for the shopkeeper to find her wand.

⌦ Please take the SORTING QUIZ first and wait to be placed in your house before taking the wand quiz! Your house effects your final wand in our quiz! This goes for current members who are re-sorting too, though you may take the quiz in advance if you know what your new house will be.

⌦ You may role play the magical measuring tape, but you may not role play for the shopkeepers. Ollivander does not work here!

⌦ After submitting the wand quiz and posting in this thread, please wait for a shop worker to assist you and your character in finding their perfect wand match. You do not have to RP to get your wand, but it is highly encouraged as a part of enriching your RP experience.

⌦ Please do not stretch the wand fitting experience out too long, it should not take more than three tries at an absolute maximum to find your character's match.

⌦ If we run out of time to complete the RP with you by the end of the RP summer, we will PM or VM your wand result to you, provided you have posted in this thread and responded to our efforts to interact with you.

⌦ If you have any questions, feel free to PM sweetpinkpixie or one of the Diagon Alley Proprietors, and they'll try to answer your questions as quickly and efficiently as they can.

⌦ Have fun!

The bell above the door to Ollivanders gave a soft, almost delicate chime as he pushed it open with his shoulder, already half-turned to snap a photo over it. The camera clicked rapidly in his hands—click, click, click—capturing the narrow shop, the impossibly tall shelves, the dust that seemed to hang in the air like it had been there for centuries.

"Okay, no, this is crazy," he said aloud, voice echoing just a bit too loudly. "There's no way this is real. This is like—this is like a movie set, but it's not—"

Another click. He tilted the lens upward, trying to catch the towering stacks of wand boxes that seemed to go on forever.

He took a few careful steps forward, shoes creaking faintly against the wooden floor, head constantly turning as if he might miss something if he stayed focused on one thing too long. The camera rose again almost instinctively. Click.

"That one's gonna look SO COOL," he muttered to no one in particular, adjusting the dial. "Wait. Do magical places mess with film? Ay, what if it does? What if all my pictures come out blank or, like, haunted or something?"

He froze for half a second because something had just brushed his shoulder. Slowly, Miguel turned. "Uhh..."

A measuring tape—thin, yellowed, and very much moving on its own—was winding its way up his arm.

"¡DIOS MÍO!" he blurted, half-laughing, half-panicking as he instinctively snapped a photo of it mid-motion. "IT'S—IT'S ALIVE!"
Victor had heard the bell, of course, but he was still in the back, sleeves rolled just enough as he polished a pair of wands that had not yet met their match that morning. He took his time with them — he always did — so it was a few moments before he stepped forward. When he finally did, the soft irregular rhythm of clicks reached him first and it drew a chuckle from his chest. He paused in the doorway from the back room, leaning lightly against the frame as he watched the boy try to capture something that was never meant to be held still.

"Tranquilo," he said at last, offered the way one might soothe a skittish creature. His hand lifted with quiet authority and the measuring tape slithered back toward him with only mild reluctance.

"No muerde," he added, a touch drier now but certainly not without its warmth. "Aunque le gustaría que pensaras lo contrario."

Only then did he properly regard boy, his camera, wonder, nerves and all.

"That will entirely depend on whether or not your camera is of magical or non-magical making," Victor continued, slipping easily back into English, though the cadence of his voice hadn't quite caught up yet. "Though in either case, your photographs may develop a little differently than expected."

The measuring tape twitched again at his side, as though eager to resume its work. Victor allowed it a small indulgence, pulling it taut here and there as he noted a few details, before releasing it. It snapped free at once, then undulated briskly through the air as it zipped back toward the boy to take quick measurements of the circumference of his forehead and knees before returning just as neatly to drape itself over Victor's shoulder.

"My assistant is quite thorough,” he remarked, as he turned toward the shelves, fingers brushing lightly along a row of boxes as though listening for something rather than searching. "Do you keep your photographs in a scrapbook or an album," he went on, glancing back over his shoulder, "or are you more inclined toward a bit of organized chaos? Strings along the walls, corners pinned to corkboards..."

Himself falling into the latter category.

Victor returned with a box in hand and slipped the lid off, holding the box steady for him.

"This one, I do believe is ready for its close-up."

Judging by the interactions with the man, Eloy was pretty sure whatever catastrophe may occur {or had occurred since his tenure at the shop} then it all would be expertly taken care of.

But this second wand!

It was pure perfection! {Don’t ask El how he knew, he just did.}

With a thrilled wiggle like an eel {the nickname ‘Eel’ was one his dad gave him, by the way}, he settled his gaze on Victor once more. He hung on to every word, determined to remember each detail about his new bestie. “Ooh, it’s going to keep me on my toes, is it?” Rather than being put off by the notion, Eloy was quite looking forward to the challenge. “I’ll just have to work harder with those counter-curses then… but what fun I’ll have mastering jinxes and so forth easily!” those eyes of his shone brightly. “I’m quite looking forward to it. And all the fun we’ll have together, since it sounds as though we’ll both enjoy humorous situations.”

With another grin, he bowed slightly at the applause. “You have been a big help, and I thank you for that!” Job or not, Victor sure knew how to make a young one feel at ease. “Oh, a holster, please, and… some polish. Have you any holster that complements the physical appearance of this wand?”
Victor watched the boy, a quiet smile settling across his face as he did. There was something deeply satisfying in witnessing that moment of recognition taking hold. He didn't step in too quickly, allowing the boy's excitement to rise and settle in its own way, the energy of it bright and uncontained ― precisely how fittings were meant to be.

"Absolutely," Victor said, not interrupting the boy's excitement but nurturing it. "It will keep you on your toes. I suspect you will do the same for it." A faint glint of something approving passed through his gaze. "The two of you will get along rather well, I think. But, just be certain," he added mildly, "that you learn to undo what you do with equal enthusiasm."

The words were lightly given, but not without meaning. He had seen enough to know how easily enthusiasm could outpace restraint — and how important it was that the two learned to move together, not against one another.

When the boy bowed, Victor inclined his head in return.

"You are quite welcome." Then, back to business "A holster, yes," he said, turning slightly toward the display, already considering. "I recommend wrist ones for first time wand owners to start... and for spruce…I would suggest leather. Something with a bit of give to it. Dark brown or perhaps a muted green."

He moved along the displays.

"Perhaps one of our bundles, bundle numero uno, would suit you best," he went on, pulling the appropriate bottles from the shelf. "That comes with a wand polish and conditioning oil, which you will want to keep the wood smooth and responsive, particularly with a wand like yours that prefers a certain… finesse."

The bottles of oil and polish were essentially identical to one another, but the holsters each had a personality of their own. He gestured towards the display for the boy to pick one that suited.

"While not necessary today, you also should consider a wand strengthening oil as well for yearly end of the school term maintenance."

It was true: she did feel more relaxed. In addition to the happiness and wonder she felt, there was also a surge in her confidence. No, the wand didn’t bring her confidence, it added to it.

SQUEEE!!!

Sai resisted the very strong urge to squeal excitedly. Honing in on the details of her wands that were being told to her helped quite a bit. It warmed her heart that Victor seemed so pleased for her. “Oh.” That was a lot to process, but it was all great things, knowledge that would be treasured for the rest of her life. “Creativity with intention.” These words too were mulled over before a nod was given. “Then I think that me and my new walnut friend here will do wonderful things together.”

Tears threatened to overcome her again at his words of belief in her, as well as the gaze that was received. “Thank you,’’ Sai replied, gratitude evident in both the simple words. “Yes, actually. Polish would be lovely. I do intend to keep this wand in its current healthy form. Also, a holster. Do you have holsters with flower patterns on them?” Sai did love flowers, especially those that looked like an egg. No, not the ovate sort, the ones with white petals and a yellow middle.
"Mmhm," he hummed at her conclusion, a note of quiet approval threading through it. "I believe you will."

At her request, Victor inclined his head slightly and turned toward the display.

"Wand polish will serve you well," he said, selecting a small tin and holding it in his hand for the time being. "Though if not already on hand at home, I would also suggest investing in a some conditioning oil as well. Depending on the sort of holster you prefer, one of our bundles would be a good place to start."

At the mention of flowers, something in his expression shifted — just slightly. Not surprise, exactly, but a quiet consideration as he turned the idea over with care. "Holsters are kept relatively plain," Victor said, glancing toward them, one hand gesturing gently across the display. "But I am certain something suitable may be found."

He paused there, just briefly, his thumb brushing once along the edge of the tin as his thoughts continued a step further ahead. Then, with a subtle shift of posture, he turned back toward her.

"But— we can achieve a similar effect elsewhere," he continued, lifting his free hand slightly to trace patterns in the air. "Walnut takes engraving rather well. Floral motifs — petals, vines, even more intricate designs — can be carved along the handle or length.Done properly, as our engravers ensure, it will not disrupt the wand’s function." He smiled, already mulling over who he might entrust to this task. "Engraving does cost a bit extra, but it is still very affordable."

"There we go," he smiled. His gaze softened as it shifted back to her from her shoes. "You are quite all right. There is very little one can do to anticipate how a wand will respond the first time it is held."

His eyes flicked to the floor and he gave a slight tilt of his head, considering it with a quiet thoughtfulness. before he turned to the shelves and began new deliberations. "If a wand leans too strongly in one elemental direction," Victor explained, selecting another box, his fingers brushing over the edge before lifting it gently. "It is often wise to offer its opposite."

He opened the box, revealing the next wand. It wasn’t about fixing what had gone wrong, but about giving her another opportunity to find what was right.

"Try again," Victor said, softer still, his tone full of quiet confidence. "No apologies required this time."
The water didn't have time to soak through her shoes before mr wandman had made the water vanish with a quick flick of his wand. “I had not thought of that,’’ Eloy responded, tapping his chin thoughtfully. “It’ll be an interesting partnership for sure, with us being that way to each other.” It was not lost on him that he was talking about the wand as though it were human. But wands were not exactly ‘dead weight’ or completely inanimate, were they? At least in his opinion. “Oh, yes.” El grinned sheepishly. “That’s excellent advice, Mister! Definitely would not want to cause permanent harm to myself or anyone else because of something I accidentally did.”

Wrist holsters. Interesting. Naturally this made El a curious El. Again. “Why is that? Do I come back when I’m about to start my second year at Hogwarts for a regular holster?” His head went for a slight tilt as he pondered on which colour to go with. Both were excellent options in his opinion. In the end, El figured that perhaps most go for brown so he went in the opposite direction - “Muted green, please.”

Ah, a bundle! Why did he not think of that before? More products at a reduced cost? It was a bargain! Not that there was need for him to worry about money. “I want the best for my wand so I’ll have that bundle, in addition to the Strengthening oil.” All these products popped another question into his mind. “Does a manual or a guide come with those? I mean… how often would I need to use the Strengthening oil, for example? Is there such a thing as over-polishing? Oh, and that would be all. How much would the cost be?"

SPOILER!!: The man with all the solutions! <3

Saina had forgotten just how much available products there were when it came to wand care. As it should be! Wands deserved to be pampered. She did believe there was Conditioning Oil at home but as she now had a wand of her very own, the girl wanted to have everything so that she wouldn’t be bothering her family members for theirs. “I think a bundle would be wonderful, one inclusive of Conditioning Oil.”

Her chubby face fell when it was revealed that holsters were usually plain. Now that she thought deeply about it, Sai had only ever seen the plain type. But! There was an alternative, one that made her bob her head excitedly. “A little added cost will be of no problem,’’ she remarked with all the certainty of the world. She peeked at her dad, knowing he’d be okay with her decision. “I’d love to have a floral carving done! I do adore all sorts of flowers, but mostly white petaled ones with a yellow center - so those resembling daisies and chamomile.” Aside from their beauty, those sorts of flowers tended to proliferate, adding more to delightfulness to life.

"¡Viva!” Victor cheered. "13½ pliant elder with dragon heartstring from a Peruvian Vipertooth. It is not a wand that tolerates hesitation... nor does it lend itself to being ignored." With a small gesture, Victor gestured towards the area where the soot had vanished. "Elder wands are powerful," he continued, "They expect to be held by someone who can meet them in that. Strength, certainly — but also presence. A kind of certainty in oneself."

Which was a lot to put on someone so young, truly, but what a blessing it was to have a wand that would push you so much.

"Your dragon heartstring core...amplifies all that. It will make your wand one that has the potential to answer quickly, strongly"

Victor settled comfortably on his heels, hands clasped loosely behind his back, and his gaze softened as he smiled down at the boy.

"Will that be all for today?" he asked. "Or are there any accessories or holsters you'd also like to purchase?"

[13½ pliant elder with dragon heartstring (Peruvian Vipertooth)]

Was that all? "Wow, that sounds so cool!" Getting a dragon one reminded Tyler about the stories of his dad's work life and the one time he was with a team of people at the sight with dragons. "I'm very happy, sir. Erm, I suppose just the usual holster and case always comes with it right? Cause I think that's all I really need." Well, once Tiana gets her wand. Because he wasn't leaving without his sister.

"I do have a question, with this wand being so big, it's one I grow into right? Does the wand grow with me physically? Like what if I become so tall the wand looks small in my hand?" Maybe it was a bit exaggerated, but Tyler didn't want his life wand to eventually feel like a toothpick.

His head turned momentarily to see Tiana produce red roses out of their wand. "That's so pretty! I bet mum would love some of those."

Victor watched with a soft smile, hands clasped behind his back, though something in his posture had gone still. He felt it the moment the magic took — warmth rising through the girl's hand into the wand — and his dark chocolate eyes lit with quiet delight. When the roses burst forth, rich and red, curling and climbing into a living bush at her feet, a quiet breath left him. For just a flicker of a second, something more tender crossed his face... an echo of another garden, another pair of hands, pink roses laughing in the sun. "Ah… claro," he murmured warmly and something almost wistful.
That was the difference. "I thought the two of you might get on rather well."

His gaze lingered on the rosebush a moment longer before returning to her, something quietly satisfied settling into his expression.

"And you may continue to call me Mr. Wandman, if you like," he added, the faintest curl of amusement at the corner of his mouth. "Though Victor will also suffice."

He stepped closer, not to reclaim the wand, but to reach toward one of the blooms themselves. His fingers steadied one of the roses, brushing over the petals with a gentleness recalling another bouquet of roses entirely, lighter in hue, softer in sentiment that currently sat in a vase on the counter.

"Alder," he continued, voice easing back into its quiet cadence. "11¾ springy alder with clabbert horn. A wand that chooses kind hands.” His eyes lifted back to the girl. "Alder favors those who are considerate, steady, and quietly capable. It is particularly well suited to protective magic… and to those who look after others, even when they are unsure of themselves." He paused a moment, his hand retreating to his pocket. "And this core Clabbert horn is rather rare. It has a natural affinity for growth. Plants, certainly…" He gestured towards the rosebush. "...but also in magic that nurtures, restores, and protects."

Victor straightened then, folding his hands lightly before him once more.

"Your wand will, of course, come with the standard cardboard box," he nodded, "and you may choose a holster — wrist, ankle, or hip, whichever suits your habits best." His gaze softened just a fraction. "Will you be needing anything further today? Polish, perhaps… or something to ensure its proper care?"

"Wrist holsters are… practical," he explained, turning back towards the display and selecting a muted green leather holster. "At your age, they allow for easier access while keeping the wand secure. Less to think about while you are still learning control. Wrist holsters are regular holsters, just like waist and ankle ones. Though, you are of course welcome to come back for a different sort should you find your preference change in time. Only experience informs such choices, after all."

The rest of the boy's selections were gathered quickly, each placed neatly beside the others in a paper bag.

"The instructions are provided on the backs of the bottles," Victor nodded, tapping one of the bottles lightly before slipping it inside. "Clear enough to follow, I should think." And, hopefully, the boy's guardians would have enough experience with suc things to answer any questions he may have ― though he was always available via owl for such things as well. "Strengthening oil is not something you will require often — once at the end of each school term ought to suffice."

Victor finished making sure everything was arranged neatly within the bag before glancing back up at the boy again, the faintest hint of amusement returning to his voice.

"And yes — there is such a thing as over-polishing. Moderation will serve you better than enthusiasm in that regard. If your wand should start slipping out of your hand while wielding it, you have certainly go beyond the threshold of reasonable polishing practices."

He then straightened, hands settling lightly against the counter.

"The total," Victor said, "for your wand, holster, Bundle One, and strengthening oil…" A brief beat while he double checked his tallies. "…will come to 21 galleons even."

Victor inclined his head as she spoke, listening not only to the request itself, but to the careful way she chose it and the meaning tucked just beneath the words. There was always a reason, with children. Sometimes they knew it, sometimes they didn't, but always paired with pure wonder.

He turned then and began assembling the pieces of her bundle.

"Daisies," he repeated, more to himself than to her. "White petals… yellow center." His gaze dropped to the walnut wand resting in its box, studying it and considering not whether it could be done, but how it ought to be done.

"That will suit it," he nodded with the hint of a grin.

"Since engraving is a specialty service," he continued. "It will require approximately an hour to complete." His mouth curved faintly, not quite a smile, but near enough. "You need not wait here unless you wish to," he added. "There are vendors just along the way, as well as the butterbeer cart, that may be preferable ways of passing the time."

For a fleeting second, the thought seemed to linger with him — sunlight, sweetness, a child ― his daughter ― with something cool in her hands and nothing to worry over but the foam at the rim.

"You may pay now or when the engraving is complete," he said, easing back into the rhythm of the transaction without losing that warmth entirely. "For your wand, the bundle, and the engraving… the total comes to eighteen galleons."

Victor listened without interruption, the boy's enthusiasm spilling out in uneven edges—questions folding into observations, practicalities chasing wonder, thoughts beginning to proliferate the moment they were given space, branching faster than they could be neatly organized. It was a familiar rhythm... wonderful in its own unpolished way, and one that made the work feel worthwhile, every scorch mark and careful repair included.

A faint warmth settled into Victor’s expression as he took it in.

"Mm," he hummed softly in acknowledgment, setting a well-fitted case alongside the wand with careful alignment. "Yes. A wrist, waist, or ankle holster and cardboard are provided as standard. A wand, after all, is not meant to be carried carelessly. But perhaps your preference of holster or box is of a different taste ― I try not to assume."

Especially with three holster options.

At the question, however, Victor’s attention shifted more fully. He glanced up, studying the for a moment. "A fair concern," he nodded, reaching for the wand ― not to take it away, but to balance it lightly across his palm as though illustrating a point. "A wand does not grow in the physical sense," he explained. "Its length remains as it was crafted. However…the relationship between wizard and wand is not so rigid. As you grow — physically, magically, and otherwise — the wand adjusts in subtler ways. Balance and responsiveness, for example. It will not become lesser in your hand simply because you have become more. It meets you where you are… and where you are going."

He gathered what items he could for the time being and returned his attention to the boy.

"For your wand," he began, "…the cost comes to ten galleons."

"It's nice to meet you Mr Victor, I'm Tiana." She introduced herself with a soft smile. She had manners after all. Momentarily she turned to Tyler to and nodded smile widening. "Yes, mum would love it if we gave her flowers." Turning back, she watched as Mr Victor touched one of the roses gently with his fingers, and she asked thoughtfully. "Do you want to keep the rosebush Mr Victor? If I can just get a handful of roses to give to my mum then you can have the rest." It did seem like Mr wandman was also a man with an affinity for flowers, and not just wands.

When Victor began telling her about her wand Tiana stilled and attentively listened, and took in the words. Almost immediatly though she interrupted him with a question. "What's a clabbert? Is that like a big toad monkey?" To hear that the wand chose someone who is kind, considerate, quitley capable, protective magic, and likes plants. It seemed to see her it felt like, scary.

"Thank you for the wand. Can I please get a wrist holster, and some wand polish?" Anything else she could buy at a later time when she had learned to use her new wand a bit, and felt accustomed to it.

Shave a couple seconds off retrieving it from a waist holster… time that could be well spent practising spells.” El liked where this recrudesce train of thoughts were heading. “You may be seeing me again, and I may be bringing more questions with me.” Because really, all this wand stuff was rather interesting.

There was a visible look of relief that washed over El’s body. “Great! That will be enough, I think.” His comprehension skills were not always excellent but quite enough to get him by. In any case, there were more than enough people in his life that help could be sought from. While Victor gathered everything in a bag, El’s gaze shifted to the tape. Where could he get one of those? However, upon hearing the tiny amount of amusement in Victor’s voice, he chuckled. It was nice that he could be someone who didn’t stress others. “Strengthening Oil once at the end of each school term, keep an eye out for the wand slipping from my hand.” Eloy brought the tips of his index fingers to his temples. “Stashing this information away for future use.”

All too soon, his time with this transaction was done. El counted out the galleons and handed them over. “Thanks for all your help, Mister! And for sharing your wealth of knowledge!” The bag was collected. “You and that tape have a good rest of the day.” With that, he turned away to depart.

Miguel let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding as the measuring tape slithered away, his hand still hovering midair like he wasn't entirely convinced it wouldn't come back for round two.

"Okay, okay, cool, yeah, totally normal," he said, voice a little too fast. The camera was already back up in his hands. Click. He caught the tape just as it draped itself over the man's shoulder, then lowered the lens, shaking his head in disbelief.

"Your assistant is intenso," he added, half-laughing. "Like, I thought my abuela with a sewing kit was scary, but that—" He gestured vaguely in the air where the tape had been. "That's next level, señor."

His attention snapped immediately to the wand box the moment Victor revealed it, the rest of the shop momentarily falling away. Miguel stepped closer, slower this time, like he'd finally realized that maybe this part required a little more care than frantic photo-taking.

Still, the camera came up again almost instinctively. Click.

"Sorry, I—this is just—" he lowered it, exhaling, eyes flicking between the wand and the man. "Like, if I don't take pictures, I'm gonna think I made it all up later."

At the question, he huffed a soft laugh, shifting his grip on the camera strap.

"Uh, bit of both, I guess?" he said. "Albums when I'm trying to look like I have everything together. Strings and corkboards when I don't." A beat. "So... mostly strings and corkboards."

His gaze drifted back to the wand, lingering now, something quieter threading through the excitement. There was still wonder there, but it had settled into something more focused, like a burgeoning awareness that this moment mattered in a way he couldn't fully explain yet.

"You said it's ready? How do you know it's ... that it's for me?" he asked as he reached out, pausing just short of the box, glancing up for a split second as if asking permission without quite saying it. "Lo siento. Pero what do I do? First time anywhere like this."

Victor inclined his head at her introduction, a small, practiced courtesy that carried the quiet weight of old classrooms and long years spent coaxing nervous students into confidence."A pleasure, Tiana."

He smiled gently at the way she offered the roses so readily, without hesitation or attachment to the whole. "That is kind of you," he praised, his smile warming further. "You may take what you wish for your mother. The rest…" he paused for a breath, gaze drifting briefly to the blooms as if measuring their borrowed life, "…may remain. The shop does not often object to a bit of life while it lasts."

She was, after all, a young witch and long-term conjurations something that would come with more practice and fortifying her bond with her wand. Though he suspected they would remain for at least the rest of the afternoon.

"That is quite the precise guess for someone not sure what a clabbert is," Victor said, one brow lifting just slightly, the hint of a smile threading through the beginnings of his beard.. "A clabbert is a small magical creature that resembles something that is part monkey, part amphibian." Victor tilted his head then, weighing how much information to give. "Though I suspect you will learn about them in much greater detail once you have your school textbooks in hand and are at school. I would not want to steal that first sense of discovery from you or your professor."

He glance at her wand. "The creature's horn, however, lends itself well to protective magic," he added, voice easing into something a shade more instructive. "A trait drawn from the creature's pustules, which would glow as a warning. A natural safeguard, you see. Magic often remembers where it comes from."

At her request, Victor nodded and gestures towards the display with an open hand. "Wrist, ankle, or waist holsters are included in your fitting for no additional charge," he explained as he reached for a bottle of polish. "That will come to 13 galleons and eight sickles."

"I rather expect I will," he said, the corner of his mouth hinting at something warmer than amusement at the promise of more questions. "And may be disappointed if you didn't."

The bag was prepared with the same care as everything else — wand secured in its box, oils and polish arranged neatly, the holster folded without a single crease. The coins were then accepted with an easy smile and tucked away into the till without much flourish save for the ding and click of the machine opening and closing.

"Have a good rest of your day," smiled. "And do try to keep one another out of trouble... or at the very least… learn something useful from it when you don't."

Victor accepted the coins with a quiet nod, his fingers closing around them without counting—not there, not in front of her. Trust, even in small gestures, had a way of shaping how people carried themselves. He would confirm the total later while adding them to the till.

"It will be ready when you return," he said, already setting her wand aside with a care. "When you return, the carving will be set. Give it a day before polishing—let the wood settle into the work. It will hold better, that way."

He inclined his head slightly. "I will see you shortly."

And as she left — bright and carrying that restless energy he knew well — Victor remained where he was only a moment longer before turning back to the wand. His hand hovered just above it, not yet touching, as his gaze traced along the grain. He was already considering the work ahead: where each petal might rest, how the curve of each carved bloom would follow the natural lines of the wood rather than fight them.

Time to get this to one of his engravers!

"Overzealous," he said dryly, plucking it neatly from his shoulder and giving it a small, corrective flick before it stilled properly. "Even on its worst days." He exhaled faintly through his nose and chuckled under is breath. "Bueno. At least it is dependable. I have yet to meet a witch or wizard who measures more accurately."

His gaze shifted back to the boy, catching the lingering tension in his posture, the too-quick cadence of his voice, and Victor's eyes warmed.

"The camera is no trouble," Victor added, with a small tilt of his head. "If this is how you keep hold of memories without them slipping away, then you should." A majority of his own life experience were through the lens of a camera, so he understood the appeal quite intimately. "Es un estilo, ¿no? A way of seeing without the need to make things too tidy."

When his attention settled — truly settled — on the wand, Victor’s own posture shifted in response into something a hint more paternal as he noted the hesitation, the glance upward, and the unspoken questions behind the boy's eyes.

"You... will see," he nodded, lips curling into something much closer to grin than a smile. "It is not something I can hand you in words." He inclined his head once, granting permission without making ceremony of it. "Go on and pick it up. There is no need for anything elaborate ― a little flick, a turn of the wrist will do plenty. Sometimes the smallest movement is more than enough."

He stepped back half a pace, giving the boy the space to get acquainted with wand número uno. Would be nice if it was wand número para siempre.

Tyler took a moment to process what the Wandmaker said. So it wouldn't physically grow with him, but in other ways, to fit the mold. Least that was how he took it. Nodding, "I see. Okay, I guess that makes sense. And if it somehow did have a problem down the line I could always come back and get it fixed or a new one." Smiles here.

Hearing the price he gasped. "Wait, it costs money?!" Before laughing, "I'm just kidding, there's no way your shop would survive without the fees." Digging into his pocket he counted ten galleons out onto the counter to pay for it. "Actually, could I get the same type of extras my sis asked for with my wand? Just so me and my sis are getting the same items other than my wand." Not that his parents would mind, but they would question why he spent less money than Tiana. "So here's the extra galleons and sickles." Counting out 3 more galleons and 8 sickles to total the same 13 galleons and eight sickles onto the counter. Twinsies for life!

Saina had noted, with a hint of confusion, that the coins were not counted. Obviously not knowing the true reason, she chalked it up to Victor having seen her count them out and was satisfied. But talk returned to her soon-to-be-carved wand, leaving all other thoughts up in the air. “Noted!” the girl replied, eager as ever to lay eyes on the completed wand. Could one hour elapse already?

It did actually, though it all felt like an eternity to her.

Full of ice cream and butterbeer, which likely meant that Sai would be bouncing off the walls later thanks to a sugar rush, she returned to the shop. Excitement and anticipation in the undulate levels that she was feeling surely would not help.

Sai stepped up to the counter, her eyes searching for the familiar form of the nice shopkeeper.
