I think it has the potential to be a good idea, but my only concern is how would we make it work? And how would it be decided who the assistant was?

I have to be honest - I don't particularly like it, nor do I think it is necessary. It tends to give the member who is made the assistant the idea that they are above the other members, when it actuality, they are ranked no higher than any other entry-level employee. The other members treat them as if they are equivalent to a division head, when they are not.

Not to mention, there is simply no NEED for an assistant. If your character IC needs some help with something, use your division heads or ask another member to perform a task. Most of them are looking for something to do anyway.

I agree. Because of the hierarchy of the departments, with the division heads and the rank and file underneath them, there should be no need for an assistant that I can see. The thought of using an assistant has never even crossed my mind, and I would think the division head should be adequate to perform any tasks that are required by the head.

I'm going to have to side with Tiff and Linda on this one. I honestly don't see the need for an assistant and agree that if and when help is needed, the division heads would be the best employees to turn to.

As Tiff mentioned, the role of "Assistant" tends to make other employees (Division Heads included) see the assistant as second-in-command to the Department Head. I think they see the title more as "Assistant Department Head" rather than "Assistant to the Department Head."

Yess... Yess... I see what you're all saying, which is why I just figured I'd bring the topic up for discussion anyway. But it seems the votes are unanimous about the views of assistant.

Thanks for bringing up the topic Jess. It's good to consider ideas that may change or improve the Ministry, so I'm glad you brought it up.

Also, it was suggested by member/mod that having some prelim matches might be nice. I explained that the amount of work going into that is tough, so we may not be able to go that route. However, what about like - a mini-match? With only one snitch grab and less questions? Maybe not for EVERY match, but maybe one or two in addition to the polls?

OR (and I may like this idea better and maybe you were already planning on doing this) what if when the poll results are posted, you include a written play by play of the entire match? You could use your department to maybe help with the write-ups if it is too much for you to handle alone (Patents and gobstones divisions?) and post them so people can see how the matches played out and maybe develop their own fav players?

Real life and the school RP Quidditch will not allow for a preliminary match to be held. Not even a small one. I have to work around November holidays and my brother's surgery in October.

I'm still doing my original plan of posting the polls with a write-up of sorts. When the polls close, then I'll create a short game summary that I'll post. Am I going to rely on the department for this? No. I already have most of the writing finished and I want to keep them focused on their other tasks for the QWC (unless I have a fantastic graphics person who I can rely on).

So I thought more about this today at work and decided that I'll recruit a mod/staff/admin who is on the DP and wanting to play in the game to help out with this so that we can really promote the QWC and get people excited - special "Road to the Cup" issues of the DP that include the results/game summaries. So far, Roro is interested and I'm going to pow wow with her on how we can make this work.
