Once you've tickled the pear and turned the knob, the Hogwarts kitchen will be revealed to you. Located directly beneath the Great Hall, the kitchen is a high-ceilinged room with five identical tables to the ones in the dining room above. Unlike the room situated above however, heaped around the walls are large quantities of pots and pans. On one end of the room are shelves of plates and utensils, stoves, sinks, and a large brick fireplace.
Here numerous house-elves are working on the castle's next meal when they aren't tending to their other duties as employees of the school. The team of house-elves have specific assignments to accomplish inside the kitchen, whether it is to cook, wash the plates and cutlery, keep the pantry stocked, place more wood into the fire, or set the tables before everything is summoned to its exact replicas overhead. Though the house-elves are incredibly busy, they will surely serve you a snack ... if you aren't asking Algamus. Or you can, of course, make your own food. Just don't leave a mess behind!
Felicity was in one of her bottomless-pit-stomach moods today. She had heard from some of her housemates about how to get into the kitchen, but didn't quite believe it until the pear giggled and the painting swung open. What a strange little castle this was.
She entered the kitchen—it wasn't around mealtime, and there weren't many house elves inside. She just wanted a little snack, maybe some strawberries or a little sandwich. She started looking through cabinets, trying to find something that caught her eye.

Paul was here. After many, many weeks of attempts to talk over his grave mistake. Blocked by their older brother and friends. He told himself over and over he didn't deserve it, but the way he vocalized his inner thoughts... it didn't count out exactly how he felt and now this was his one chance to make it up. Or lose them forever.
After tickling the pear, he entered in and went straight towards the pantry. He nodded at the elves, letting them know that he was making something and didn't need help. What was he going to make? Delicious drinks, of course. Taking the cans of strawberry powder with the familiar rabbit on the can. It was Nesquik time.

Every day apart from Paul had been a torture for Id but had been determined to keep some space between them. Firstly, he needed to wrap his head around all the things Paul had said about him. It had broken his heart and Id had lay many nights in bed thinking that his best friend hated him. But as the days went by it became obvious that Paul was regretful and so Id had told Jan that he was ready to talk to him. He could see that his brother was reluctant but Id had simply hugged him and told him he’d be okay.
And knowing that his own feelings were more than platonic thanks to a question Jan had asked him last summer, plus the extra time he’d had to reflect in the past weeks, Id solemnly faced Paul. He wasn’t sure what to say so he mostly stayed quiet, letting Paul spill his words. The words had been a bit jumbled but Id let it slide. The fact that Paul was trying to make things right was enough for him. What shocked him the most though, was that kiss. It came out of nowhere, leaving Id’s heart racing. Why was that Hufflepuff intent on confusing him? The Gryffindor remained rooted on the spot watching Paul dash off in the direction of the kitchen. Or his common room. Id hoped it was the former because after some time, he followed.
His heart was still thumping when he entered the kitchen, when he, much to his relief, saw Paul there. Id still wasn’t sure what to say for once. He didn't even know if Paul wanted to talk about what had just happened. “Need some help?” he asked after a minute.

Paul wasn't surprised by the amount of "guards" Idris would have with their fallout. He expected it with the adults and such. Jan, however, he hadn't ever witnessed such anger before especially towards him. But he deserved that reaction. He went too far. He always was waiting on people to get upset with him, but the sight of Idris being so hurt, hurt him. He continually thanked Merlin for the chance to speak with him.
Paul was stirring the first drink when some of the powder flew out. He silently cursed, being distracted left him with room for mistakes. He was a little startled by the sound of Idris right when he went to clean it up. Need some help? NOPE. He did NOT need help, so he can go away! That was what Paul wanted to say at first.... no, he didn't want to say that. His mouth wanted to, but his brain and heart caught up in time.
"....Okay." He said softly, trying not to meet their eyes. He felt strange now. When he expressed his feelings and... showed it with his mouth now he wanted to hide. But where could he hide at a short notice for some time alone, because Idris went back to their formula of following him. Maybe this was the chance he needed to take after all. "I'm.... really, really, really sorry Idris." Yeah, he already said it, but he couldn't think of any other way to showcase it. "I really mean it... and I'm sorry for erm... doing that-" Kiss "To you... especially when you didn't ask for me to do that." So what now? Idris can take his drink, accept it or throw it on Paul now and leave him like he deserved it. And why of all times now did his eyes have to start leaking when he looked up at Idris finally?

His family was protective, so were his friends. Id couldn’t help them being that way but he had asked them to go easy on Paul. As much as he himself had been hurt, it hurt thinking that Paul was all alone with no one to sit with during classes or to eat with. Even Nes had abandoned Paul. It just hadn’t sat right with Id… no one deserved to be alone or to be denied a second chance.
Idris actually expected Paul to say something rude to him, to tell him to go away and that trying to talk to him had been a mistake. The Little Lion Man hurt himself with those thoughts of his own but in his defense, he knew Paul’s habits all too well. But once again, he was surprised. It made hope bubble up in him that things could truly be mended. He stepped up beside Paul, glancing at him before unholstering his wand. With a mutter of the incantation, the spilt powder was siphoned up.
He was still staring at the recently cleaned spot when Paul spoke, and he remained staring at it though he was listening ardently. When he finally looked at Paul, he found him already looking. “Paul…” Id re-holstered his wand. “I forgave you ages ago. I just needed time to process what was said because it hurt so much. I never knew you thought those things about me.” And did Paul really feel sorry about kissing him? Id’s heart suddenly felt heavy again. “I can stop crowding you. I don’t want you to be uncomfortable or for you to start hating having me around constantly.” Or worse, hating him. That made a sob want to escape his throat but he pushed it back. Despite this, Idris reached out and brushed away Paul’s tears with his thumbs.

Paul probably would've naturally called Idris stupid for still following him when everyone rightfully left him. But he was too tired of it all. He didn't even think of Idris as stupid. It was he himself that was the stupid one in the end. But he knew Idris would never let him call himself that.
Paul said nothing as he listened to Idris speak. Why was he so nice? It hurt Paul that he stopped him from being happy. Even then, Idris just proved how much of a better person he was than he could ever be. At least, that was what he thought of himself. "Id..." He said, shaking his head so he can stop rubbing his tears away. "It's not true.. all those things I said. I don't want you to stop that. I like having you around me." He started. "The reason I said those things and everything... when you kept being yourself I realized then that I wanted to kiss you. But kissing you would change everything, our friendship. I don't believe you'd want someone like me around." Someone who didn't deserve such good things.
Everyone who cared for him left him in the end. Whether he caused it or not. "And if you left me without my doing... that would hurt. And I was soo desperate to prevent you from hurting me that I didn't consider the hurt I caused you by pushing you away." He roughly rubbed his own eyes now. "So go ahead. Tell me you don't like me and wish that kiss never happened. I'd rather you hurt me now than I live with hiding how much I like you and continue being mean to you." With that, he slid the drink over to Idris.

If following Paul meant that he was stupid, then so be it. Idris didn’t care. Following Paul came naturally to him as radiating love and positivity. And yes, he’d never let the other guy call himself ‘stupid’; he was far from it.
Id couldn’t help being nice, especially when it came to Paul. All he’d ever wanted to do was to give him so much love and the best friendship ever that he forgot about whatever it was that made him bitter. But maybe that wasn't enough. Seeing his friend cry made Id want to cry in turn but he knew if he started, he wouldn’t stop and he really wanted them to sort this situation out. Then, just like that, he felt a great sense of relief. A weight had been lifted off his shoulders that he hadn’t realised was there. “I had my doubts… there were times when… when we were apart that I wondered if you really didn’t like me and just tolerated me.” Idris sighed softly. “I like being around you. Do you think if I didn’t I’d be? You’re so silly, Paul, but you’re great, under all that rudeness.” Now the Lion needed to circle back to something just as important. “Would our friendship changing be such a bad thing?” There was more he wanted to say but Id needed to know what Paul thought first.
Truth be told, he couldn’t see himself leaving Paul, unless Paul continued hurting him. The Badger had become an integral part of his life. Id reached out for the cup, letting his fingers trace over the handle as he considered the words. “I can understand that. You’ve been hurt before and don’t want it to happen again.” It made sense to want to protect your heart and feelings. “I don’t like you, Paul. I’ve only loved you but maybe you never noticed.” He might only be an almost-fourteen-year-old but definitely not too young to know how much he loved Paul, even if that had been platonic until now. “I’m glad you kissed me.” Had he put all those fears to rest now? Id hoped so.

Idris stared at Paul as he heard everything he said. He couldn't understand why someone would want to stick by him, through it all. His moms loved him, but they were always traveling. His sister loved him, but she's also traveling. Here, the pattern just seemed to fit. But yet it didn't. It wasn't just Idris, but his family too who were accepting of him. Well, they were accepting of him. Just getting Idris to forgive him was only one step to making everything alright. But it was the most important step.
"I don't know..." Paul said. "This is all new to me." Friendship changing. He didn't want to stop seeing him but... did he really mean what he thought he meant? "What? Like boyfriends or something?" Even as he said it, he could feel his face warm. "That's..." So weird! His tongue nearly said. Though he wasn't sure how he felt about that, but it sounded nice in a way. But before he could even fully try to express what he meant, he was hit with the next set of words. Love.
Idris looked down to a random tile on his right side. "What do you know about love.." Some habits just didn't end right away. "Sorry.. I meant.. you... want to be more than friends with me?" If this was Idris way to hurt him by teasing and then telling him no. Then, so be it. He deserved to have his heart crushed. "Because.. to be honest, I would love to if you'd have me."

In case Paul hadn’t noticed, Idris was not like a lot of others. When he said he wouldn’t leave, he meant it. Paul at least deserved that sort of consistency in his life. As for Id’s family… they knew just how important the Hufflepuff was to him so they did accept him, even if each member right now may be feeling unhappy with him.
Id chuckled. “As if it isn’t new to me either.” Merlin! It felt good to be somewhat lighthearted again, to smile. “If that’s what you want,’’ he responded, smiling still but this time at the blushing face before him. “Last summer, Jan asked me if I had a crush on you. Clearly he saw something I didn’t because I told him I didn’t. But I’ve had time to think about that recently and yes… I do have a crush on you. And I couldn’t be happier that it’s you.”
There was an amused shake of his head. “A lot more than you or anyone else think.” Id might have a knack for languages of all kinds but love was his first and most important language. “It’s okay.” It was obvious that Paul was macking an effort to be less rude and Id appreciated that. His smile got a little wider. “I’d love to have you,’’ he simply said as he stepped closer. There wasn’t any way that he was toying with Paul. Without saying anything else, Id leaned down slightly and pressed his lips to Paul’s. See? He meant every word he had said earlier.

When Paul got to finally look at Idris again, thinking about their relationship, he had thoughts back to their days at Hogsmeade Wizarding School, when he transferred in their later years. His thoughts then always aligned with him wanting to keep him happy and protect him from the worst. He had failed in the last month, but he got a second chance and was not going to lose it any longer.
So Jan noticed he had a crush on Paul. "...You did?" Something told Paul earlier that they had a knack for noticing things ahead of time. Especially with other members of their household, ahem. The fact that now Idris confirmed it and now he had a feeling that he was going to be talking with Jan real soon. "So... you really do like me." It was Paul's turn to blush again.
Then it happened, Idris made the move on Paul. For a brief moment, extremely brief, something in his head told him to push Idris and tell him it was too much. But his heart told that something in his head to shut up, because he craned his neck to return the kiss. It was better than nice. For once in a long time since the summer, Paul genuinely smiled again.
"So... I take it we're boyfriends now." Paul said. This was so new and scary but in an exciting way. Not sure what he could do next, his eyes went to that drink in his hand. "You haven't told me if that Nesquik was good." Probably needed more sugar knowing Idris.

Failure was okay in Idris’ books, as long as one picked themselves up and did better. He was proud that Paul was already doing both; the experience they both had just gone through could be one that they learn from.
“Uh huh. I did.” His big brother, the Seer. Sort of, since Jan was blind to see that a certain Ravenclaw was head over heels for him. “Yes, Paul.” Id was chuckling all over again. “If you need to ask me that question everyday, go ahead but the answer would never change.” Reassurance was something that he could offer without getting tired of giving it. And if the kiss wasn’t enough to prove how much he liked him… well, who knows what else would prove it. Id and Paul could agree on that kiss being better than nice. And it certainly was wonderful to see the boyfriend smiling again. Merlin, Id had missed that smile!
“It would seem so.” He was bubbling with happiness and excitement. There was no fear nor any doubt about this new relationship; Id was quite confident he and Paul would make it work. “Just one more thing… if you ever hurt me again, I won’t come back to you.” There was a limit to everything and this Lion had a good sense of where to establish his boundaries. Smiling again because all was right in the world again he grabbed the cup and took a hearty drink from it. “It’s perfect as always! You think the elves can spare us a couple of cookies to go along with this?” Id was suddenly ravenous, something which he hadn't been at all in the weeks that had recently gone by.
