Id couldn’t help being nice, especially when it came to Paul. All he’d ever wanted to do was to give him so much love and the best friendship ever that he forgot about whatever it was that made him bitter. But maybe that wasn't enough. Seeing his friend cry made Id want to cry in turn but he knew if he started, he wouldn’t stop and he really wanted them to sort this situation out. Then, just like that, he felt a great sense of relief. A weight had been lifted off his shoulders that he hadn’t realised was there. “I had my doubts… there were times when… when we were apart that I wondered if you really didn’t like me and just tolerated me.” Idris sighed softly. “I like being around you. Do you think if I didn’t I’d be? You’re so silly, Paul, but you’re great, under all that rudeness.” Now the Lion needed to circle back to something just as important. “Would our friendship changing be such a bad thing?” There was more he wanted to say but Id needed to know what Paul thought first.
Truth be told, he couldn’t see himself leaving Paul, unless Paul continued hurting him. The Badger had become an integral part of his life. Id reached out for the cup, letting his fingers trace over the handle as he considered the words. “I can understand that. You’ve been hurt before and don’t want it to happen again.” It made sense to want to protect your heart and feelings. “I don’t like you, Paul. I’ve only loved you but maybe you never noticed.” He might only be an almost-fourteen-year-old but definitely not too young to know how much he loved Paul, even if that had been platonic until now. “I’m glad you kissed me.” Had he put all those fears to rest now? Id hoped so.
Idris stared at Paul as he heard everything he said. He couldn't understand why someone would want to stick by him, through it all. His moms loved him, but they were always traveling. His sister loved him, but she's also traveling. Here, the pattern just seemed to fit. But yet it didn't. It wasn't just Idris, but his family too who were accepting of him. Well, they were accepting of him. Just getting Idris to forgive him was only one step to making everything alright. But it was the most important step.
"I don't know..." Paul said. "This is all new to me." Friendship changing. He didn't want to stop seeing him but... did he really mean what he thought he meant? "What? Like boyfriends or something?" Even as he said it, he could feel his face warm. "That's..." So weird! His tongue nearly said. Though he wasn't sure how he felt about that, but it sounded nice in a way. But before he could even fully try to express what he meant, he was hit with the next set of words. Love.
Idris looked down to a random tile on his right side. "What do you know about love.." Some habits just didn't end right away. "Sorry.. I meant.. you... want to be more than friends with me?" If this was Idris way to hurt him by teasing and then telling him no. Then, so be it. He deserved to have his heart crushed. "Because.. to be honest, I would love to if you'd have me." |
