Ad sniffled, then reached over and intertwined her fingers with Justin's, looking up at him, the pain and terror now evident in her eyes. "I'm scared" she whispered honestly, aiming it at both of them.

Ad shook her head and felt the tears slide down her face. "No...I won't. I'm not okay. I know that for a fact" she said, her blue eyes dull. "Brennan was right last year. I'm not gonna see my sixteenth birthday" she sobbed, and that only triggered a coughing fit. Unable to talk, she simply tapped Callum's shoulder, her eyes even more frightened then before.

Justin sighed. He hated when Ad talked like that. Yeah, he spoke like it all the time but only because he had hardly anyone left. "And McKenzie told you you'll see past your sixteenth birthday. Even he said this isn't that serious" he replied.

Callum pulled over to the side of the road and turned so he was looking at the teenagers. "Justin's right for once. You're stronger than you think you are, Ad. You're gonna be fine" he tried to assure her but it didn't seem to be working.

Ad leaned back as she recovered from the (thankfully) blood-free coughing fit. "No, I'm not" she said, wincing at her voice and how...broken...it sounded. "I..." she faltered, the tears still running down her face.

Ad turned her wide blue eyes to Justin. "I know I already said it, but I'm saying it again. I'm scared. Terrified. Why did this happen to me all of a sudden?" she asked softly. He had already said he'd stand by her the entire way. That made her feel better. "I love you" she whispered.

Justin looked back at Ad again and squeezed her hand slightly. "I don't know. Him upstairs moves in mysterious ways" he replied. Well, it was true. "I love you too" he replied.
