She hadn't remembered falling asleep, but as she opened her eyes blearily the next morning, she realised she must have. A part of her was shocked, disappointed to see Dumbledore stood at the foot of her bed, his hands on the rail, his eyes piercing into her eyelids. "I see you have rested as I instructed. Good." |
Snape awoke from his sleep but, kept his eyes closed. He knew he had been injured but, hadn't realized how much so until he had time to rest and allow the potions he had taken to wear off. His head was now pounding on top of the throbbing from when he had been thrown, forcefully, into the stone wall. And though he was used to these kinds of pains, he seemed to be feeling them more keenly now. Perhaps it was because he knew they had been aquired in vain because though he had succeeded in saving Marcella's life, he had failed to save her heart, her mind, and himself. |
The headmaster must've heard Snape stir as he swiftly moved his head in Snape's direction. The throbbing, the excruciating pain tingling through her skull prevented her from turning to see him, not that she really cared. Right now if she could choose to wipe him from memory she would. Clasping his hands tightly, Dumbledore walked sternly toward where Severus was grimacing, barely noticing Marcella grab for her wand. |
He heard the Headmaster walking toward him and actually dreaded whatever it was the man had to say. Snape was certainly not up to questioning at the present time and didn't want to hear any more advise from the man, either. But, as was inevitable, he opened his eyes anyway, out of respect for this man who had looked beyond his unsavory past and given him his second chance. |
"Get out of bed." he said, more as a command than a request. Whisking his hand over where the main laid, a twinkle in his eyes, he told him, "You're healed physically, all apart from the brusies which shall stay to serve as a reminder of what you have done. Even though I feel it may not be necessary. For now I will not be informing the ministry, I dont want the school disrupted any further. But I do not want you wandering around in the late hours and neither would I aprrove of you seeing her. You're to continue teaching your classes until we break for Easter, which shall be in a week. Then I will have no choice but to hand you over to the ministry officials. After that, you can judge for yourself what might happen." In his speech, he had failed to see Marcella take her wand, hobble up onto her crutches and stagger over to the sink. Having washed her face free of tears, blood and dirt, she took her wand in her right hand and held it directly above her head, the tip pointing downward. "I dont want to remember anyof this, therefore I shant." She opened her mouth ready to cast the spell, starting the word "Oblivi..." before seeing Dumbledore withdraw his wand from inside his robes and cast "Expelliarmus!" |
He'd received direct orders from Dumbledore before, even those he was loathe to entertain. However, he could find no fault with his demands this time, except perhaps, that he should be handed over to the ministry straight away. But, just as he was about to get up and obey, his eyes fixed on the demeur figure behind the Headmaster. Marcella was raising her wand to herself but, before he or she could do anything, Dumbledore had disarmed her. |
She knew she were in for a telling off and so sulked, lowering her head, kicking her toes against the floor as she scuffed back to the bed and sat promptly upon it with her legs crossed. "Do you know how dangerous it is to mess with memories?" scolded Dumbledore on cue as he pocketed her wand safely and diverted his eyes to her. "Do you blame me for wanting to try?" she begged, pleaded, reaching out in hope that he could find a shred of compassion and actually try to understand her. |
Snape decided it was best for him not to say anything to Marcella about her foolish behaviour. Instead, he would make good on Dumbledore's requests and exit the Hospital Wing, return to his quarters, and stay away from Marcella. He winced a little getting up, but found he was, in fact, mostly healed as he walked toward the now, unsealed door. |
ahhh!!!! I did it again. Sorry for the long post but, it does do some interesting character exploration. I never knew all that stuff was going on in her head  Kristi had fallen back asleep, her neck bent at an odd angle in the small wooden chair she had procured in order to wait for the Hospital WIng doors to open. She hadn't heard the soft rustling of Dumbledore's robes as he walked past her but, she did stir as he lifted the spell cast upon the door and opened it. Kristi stood and was about to follow the Headmaster inside when he shut the door, practically in her face. She wanted to scream. Though she had grown up being hidden away and locked in her room, Kristi still found it difficult to stay away from her father when he was injured. And though they never had a loving father-daughter relationship and barely saw, let alone, spoke with one another she constantly feared for his life. Of course, she had never told anyone this, least of all Snape. What would he say if he knew how much he meant to her? He'd probably be shocked. After all, he never really wanted her in the first place and to think that she wanted him to be a real father to her... Kristi shook her head. Whether they knew it or not, Marcella had changed everything. Kristi had only just realized this, herself. After a year of wondering why Snape's relationship with Marcella bothered her so much, she had finally found the answer. Kristi, despite convincing herself otherwise, wanted Snape to be her father, not only out of blood and duty, but out of want and love. She wanted to be able to think of him as Dad, not Snape. But, being with Marcella, a girl her own age, kept Snape that much farther away. How could someone who slept with a person her age ever be a Dad to her? Kristi's secret, supressed, hopes for having a relatively 'normal' father, were torn from her heart, ripped to shreds, and then burned, that day Nicholas Lestrange had told her about Marcella and Snape. Shaking her head again, trying to rid herself of these self-indulgent, useless, unproductive, thoughts and feelings, Kristi tried to focus on the matter at hand. What had happened in the Hospital Wing the other day, what were they doing now, and would Snape and Marcella come out of it alive and relatively unhurt? |
Without knowing it, she had sparked a train of thought, of guilt, off in Dumbledore's mind. Before she had a chance to blink twice, the elderly man had apparently glided across the floor and embraced her solely, his and her wand now tumbling to the floor. "This should never have been allowed to happen. If anything I am the one to blame for your pain now. I should have been there for you but I was not. But I promise you, from now on, you shall have my full and undivided attention like you always should have." Patting a hand over the back of her head, Dumbledore nodded to Snape and murmuered, "I believe I saw a younger, very distraught Snape on my way up here. You may want to go have a word with her." |
Snape turned back to look at Dumbledore... A younger, more distraught Snape? It took a few heartbeats for him to realize who he was talking about. Kristi. He had completely forgotten about her in all the drama with Marcella. Ashamed of having utterly neglecting her, he nodded to the Headmaster and walked out the door, shutting it closed behind him. |
Kristi jumped up and ran over to Snape as soon as emerged from the door. She stood looking up at him, searching his face for any sign of what had happened within the locked doors of the Hospital Wing. "What happened? Are you okay? Where's Marcella?" she asked, the questions rolling off her tongue before she could stop them. Snape looked down into the eyes of his daughter. She was genuinely worried. At one time it would have surprised him but, after Marcella had come into his life, he had noticed her concern for him more and more. "There was an incident. Marcella was badly injured but, she'll be fine," he said, walking off, back toward the dungeons. |
She briefly watched him leave, a smile creeping on her face at the thought of how happy Kristi would be to see him alive. Looking back up at her God-Father, tears streaking down her face, she wiped at them quickly and said, "You still dont approve, do you?" Sliding a hand down the back of her head, entwining his fingers between her strands of hair, he shook his head. "I have no doubt that he loves you, neither do I doubt that you love him. But it's just not appropriate. Besides, it's not about what I approve anymore. This has gone far beyond my reach of control. I only blame myself for not putting an end to this sooner. I should have paid far closer attention to you and your needs and maybe then you might not have turned to one another. But even so, I should have seen past Darrin's lies, I should have believed you and Archie Terabel when you told me what he was like. I shall never forgive myself for doubting you." |
Kristi turned and watched him walk down the corridor a bit before rushing up beside him. "But, what happened? If you are both fine, why do you look so..." she stopped speaking as he halted and fixed her with a sneer. "I need to speak with you but, not out here," he said, through clenched teeth, grabbing her arm and glancing about the hall. She was speaking, not only out of turn but, in the middle of the hallway where anyone could overhear. She shut her mouth and the two silently made their way back to the dungeons and into his quarters. Kristi walked inside and sat down in the chair she used to occupy during the summer months as they discussed various students and, as she became more adept and practiced, potion brewing. Snape sat down in his usual chair, folding his hands in his lap and giving her a serious look. "You're going back; aren't you?" she asked, guessing at why he seemed so reluctant to speak whatever it was on his mind. |
"Well, you should feel guilty." she said, fixing a frown upon her face but somehow she weren't able to stay that way for long. "Look, I know you're right and I admit, you are, but that's still not going to stop either myself or Kristi from fighting for him again." She held up a hand almost instantly, knowing he would rebuke her. "You can tell me a thousand times that it's pointless but I wont listen. I'm as stubborn as you are, for that you cannot blame me. We'll never give up without a fight even if we are fighting a losing battle." |
Snape sat down in his chair and looked over at Kristi. Up until this point, he hadn't thought about how his being sent to Azkaban would affect his ability to keep his promise of caring for and protecting Kristi. His lack of discretion was having far reaching effects, indeed. "After the Easter holidays," he said, carefully studying her expression. |
"But... why?" she said and seeing the expression on his face change slightly, she hurridly interjected. "No... I'm not foolish enough to think that you'd tell me what you did to warrant you going back. But, why after the holiday? Why not before or not at all?" |
Patting her lightly on the head, he sighed, neither accepting nor declinging her statement. "But for now you must rest. I shall not lock you in this time, I trust you know what is best." With that, he looked her strongly in the eyes before leaving the Wing without so much as seeing her into bed. |
"Dumbledore would like me continue teaching so as not to disrupt the students' routine. He is holding off on telling the Ministry until that time," he said, holding up a hand to stay off her next question. "He has already given me a second and even this, a third chance; neither of which I deserved." |
Pacing about the room, she bit at her stub-like finger nails, shakking her head in quiet mutters. Surely he hadn't expected her to stay put. He knew fully well what she was like. And knowing that, he'd gone and left the door unbolted, free for her to escape from. So was he willing her to go out of the room. If so then why had he told her to rest? Confused, she slipped on a simple black robe, tied her hair in a bobble and hobbled up onto her crutches only stopping to unbolt the door as she went. |
"You haven't taught one class since you came back only a couple days ago," she replied. She wanted to scream and shake him but, she knew it would only serve to shut him down so, she restrained herself. "Isn't there anything anyone can do? Aren't you going to at least attempt to use this time to find a way out? Because I can tell you right now, if you don't then, I will." |
A small smile creeped upon her face as she heard Kristi's typical screeches. Limping over to the door of the room, she briefly knocked upon the door before swinging it open and remaining in the doorway. "As will I, Kristi." |
Kristi jumped up when she heard Marcella and ran over to her friend's side. "Are you okay? Let me help you," she said, guiding her over to the chair she had just vacated. Snape wasn't sure what to do. He had told Dumbledore he wouldn't see her and he wouldn't go wandering around the halls. So, what was he supposed to do when she came here and invaded his personal space? "What are you doing here?" he sneered, contemplating whether or not he should go to his office in an attempt at obeying the Headmaster. |
"What does it look like?" she shot back, just as cooly, smiling thankfully to Kristi, handing her the crutches and watching her balance them against the wall. |
"I'm afraid that if you insist on being here, I will be forced to leave. The Headmaster has been more than gracious and I promised him that I would not see you," he said, ignoring her baiting. Kristi turned back after setting the crutches against the wall. "Why can't you see her?" she asked, coming up from behind Marcella and placing a hand on the back of her chair while she looked at her father in confusion. |
