| | | Woman determined on Harry Potter ban strikes again
Laura Mallory, a mother from Georgia is determined to continue her efforts to have the Harry Potter books banned from school shelves, even after losing several rulings on this matter. News organisations reports that Ms Mallory has requested an appeal of her case to Gwinnett Superior Court. Quote:
Mallory has said the books should be removed from all Gwinnett County public schools.
Quote:
The state board did not consider the merits of the books in making its decision. Instead, board members were asked to determine whether Gwinnett had properly handled Mallory's complaint. Without discussion, objection or comment, the members upheld the school system's procedure — much to Mallory's chagrin.

Poor lady. She can't get it through her big skull that the HP books are not used for magic. It's just a book I mean, books shouldn't be banned O.o no matter how bad they are they're still books. Some people may enjoy it and others may not.
I hope HP wins...again . |

Wow this is rediculous. How mant times has she tried this now. Ive lost count. After winning the idiot of the year you would think that any normal and I use that in a way meaning "average joe" would give up and at least try what they want to ban. I know they tried to ban the books and movies in my home town and it never stood in court. in the nicest way possiable to put this she needs to get a life and let her kids live theirs. If they want to read the books incourage them, in todays society its hard to get kids to read so if they want to pick up this particular book let them.

HP books will not be taken down by the likes of her! Although I admire her persistence, she should read before she judges! Not only that, what you do and your decisions in parenting are your business and yours alone! You can't tell people what they can and can't read, on the same note you can't tell people how to raise their kids-that's their business not hers! HP is about love not witchcraft! Love will always prevail over everything!

Wow, some people are so stupid, i mean seriously there are A LOT of other bigger issues out there that need attention her wanting a book of school shelves isn't that important. Just because you don't like a book doesn't mean it should be band has she even read the books? cause i really think she should before deciding she hates it.

I have only just found out about this woman and I have a few comments to make. First off, she should learn that if she is going to try to ban something then she try to find out a bit about it. Second, Harry Potter does not promote evil in anyway. It is a story based on the constant battle of good and evil with the good almost always coming out top. Third, children know that the Harry Potter books are fictional. Ok, you get the odd kid whole go around waving a twig and muttering nonsense but on the whole its fine.
Plus why ban something that has brought so many kids back into reading? It has done so much good and does not influence you to change religions. If this big deal hadn't been made about it I probably would never even have looked at it in this way so one more thing ..
COME ON HP!!!

| Foreign Intrigue I think it is very selfish of her to take the books away from everyone. Just because she does not want her kids reading them does mean she has to make the whole county abide by her dislike of Harry Potter books. What she lets her kids read is her business, but she should not be attempting to ban something that has become to be a classic piece of literature. Personally, I think that she is very foolish to jump to a conclusion before checking her facts. I don't believe in Harry Potter as "witchcraft" I believe that this book has some very realistic experiences that almost anyone can relate to in some way. The fact that it is set in a magic school is what makes the book unique and fascinating to read.
Foolishness, pure foolishness.

I've not heard of this woman befor today.
But...is she insane? If she hasn't read the HP books then she..well..she really can't say anything about it.
And Harry Potter isn't dangerous, that must be for sick persons atleast.
I can't say that I understand her eigther, becouse..Harry Potter is NOT dangerous, so I don't get what her problem is...and those poor kids of her, not beeing able to read the best books in the world just because their mother is...stupid.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Professor McFarlane Graduated | IndyEddie For those saying 'why doesn't she give up?' Look at it this way:
If they banned the books, would you try try and keep trying to get the books unbanned, or would you give up?
I don't think she's ever said that she hasn't read them, maybe she has and she finds that they're covered in evil, then that's fine, that's her opinion, and I respect her for standing up for it. Remember, some people believe that girls wearing pants, women working, and the mall, the internet, and soda pop are all works of evil.
Frankly, I don't care if she gets the books banned from the school's shelves, then people will go to the public library, or buy the books. Remember: Any publicity, even bad, is good publicity.

Remember: Any publicity, even bad, is good publicity. While I do agree with the publicity comment [after all, look at Paris Hilton], I still don't want them banned from the schools. I live so incredibly close to Gwinnett, and if Mallory wins against them, what is to stop her, or other people, from taking them out of counties in the immediate area? Not everyone around here can afford the books if they want to read them, and we don't have too many public libraries. The school library is where they belong, and I really don't want to see them gone.
