New Tom Felton Planet of the Apes interview, clip; Deathly Hallows 2 fan meet & greet
A new interview from the Vancouver set of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, out August 5th, with actor Tom Felton was released by 20th Century Fox. In it, Tom discussed his character, Dodge Landon, and what drove him to play the character, as well as working alongside Andy Serkis, who portrayed head primate Caesar. That, along with a new clip from the film called "We'll Integrate Him" featuring Tom's character briefly in the holding facility, can be viewed below.
On what attracted him to the project:
Tom Felton: The story was such an epic tale, it seemed to have everything a good story should have, really, and, yeah, the idea of when Caeser gets into the ape enclosure. The more I read about Dodge, obviously, the story thickened even further. The thing that attracted me was Caeser's first interaction with a human that was negative - he was so trustworthy, and every human before that was so nice to him, he had no reason to doubt the humans, for any reason. And, single-handedly, my character kind of puts that trust to an end, so that was a great story to tell, I think.
On performing with performance capture actor Andy Serkis:
Tom: When I heard that Andy Serkis was doing it, I was extraordinarily excited. Not only am I a huge fan, but I knew that he's going to make it a lot easier for me in the fact that I can react against someone. It's terrifying seeing a human act that primitive, really, so that massively helps my role, definitely.
Tom headed to Chicago's Hollywood Palms cinema for his second day of fan meet and greets as part of his promotion of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 on Saturday. Photos of Tom with fans, via Lisle Patch, can be found in our galleries. Tom's final appearance took place on Sunday afternoon at the Hollywood Blvd. Cinema in Woodridge, Illinois.
I got the pleasure of meeting him today.. For as awkward as I can be meeting new people, it was fun, and he was super nice! I said something to him about it being a long day, and he said extremely but it was worth it! I am excited for seeing his new project, he's an amazing actor.
