| | | Jamie Campbell Bower talks Grindelwald costume in Deathly Hallows (UPDATED)
Actor Jamie Campbell Bower (Grindelwald) recently spoke about the differences between his upcoming features New Moon and Deathly Hallows. Jamie discussed how he has both series in common with co-star Robert Pattinson, and his views on the types of fans who watch the films. The video can be seen here. Quote: We're going to see you in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" as Gellert Grindlewald, joining Rob as the only actor to have a foot in both of these phenomenally huge franchises. Have you guys bonded over this?
Campbell Bower: Well, Rob is quite a significant character in the "Potter" movies, I believe, from what I can remember. My character is a bit smaller. Have you and Rob discussed things he learned as he tried to go from one franchise to the other? Did he have pointers for you?
Campbell Bower: No. There isn't much difference between them, apart from the story. They're both massive franchises, and they both work like a machine, you know? Everyone's on time, and everyone's doing the best job that they can. Some people might say that "Twilight" is more for girls, while boys enjoy "Potter" more. Would you agree?
Campbell Bower: I'd say that they've both got fairly specific fanbases. "Twilight" is more for your 13- to18-year-olds, although there are people who obviously enjoy it — older people — which is great. But I think the main audience is the 13- to 18-year-olds, maybe because of Rob and the fact that they love Edward. [As for] "Harry Potter," it's a bit younger. Although the recent films are a bit dark. I saw [a "Potter" film] the other day, and I thought it was quite scary. You've also got your older audience [there]. What's the difference between how you approach each franchise?
Campbell Bower: Like, am I playing them the same? No, I mean, they're two different characters, they're two different people. [To play them the same] would be like, "I've just eaten some cheese, and now I'm eating an apple, and it tastes like cheese." When you're filming anything, you've just got to believe in the character and believe yourself that you are the character.
UPDATE: Jamie also talked briefly about his character, Grindelwald, his costume and how he will be featured in only Deathly Hallows Part I: Quote:
"I play Gellert Grindelwald, who is an old friend of Dumbledore's," explained the 21-year-old actor. "It's a flashback character, which is good fun. I did a little bit before I went off and did 'New Moon.'"
"No, I'm just doing number one," he answered when we asked if Grindelwald was scheduled to be in both halves of the split-for-the-cinema-sequels made from J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" novel. "Thus far, I mean. I haven't seen the script for the second one; I don't think anyone has seen the script for the second one."
As for the look of Gellert, the actor revealed: "We're pretty much keeping it straight; the costume is fantastic — we had this idea that he's very bird-like. He's described in the book as almost looking like a crow or something like that, and we [latched] onto that; I have a nice jacket which makes me look cool."
"It doesn't have wings or anything; it's just the way that it's cut. It's very subtle," he explained. "But, as is true with a lot of things in film, if you know what the intention is and the background of it, then you can recognize it — but if you're not really watching or paying any attention, then you'll miss it."

Who is Jamie Campbell? oh well 1st reply!
AFTER UPDATE: Hehe. I just noticed something. hehe. He is alot like his character, Grindewald. You start out thinking he's not such a bad guy and sort of like him (Since He's Dumbledore's friend) (I didnt know who Jamie really was) but then ya dont really like the guy anymore. (Evil wizard) (Doesnt have a clue). No offense to anybody who is fond of the actor cuz its just my opinion.

I think HP is for all audiences and genders while Twilight is directed more towards girls / women .. but of course guys like it too.
Anyway, I never thought that Jamie fit Grindelwald. But we'll see how he is like! I definitely liked him in Sweeney Todd!

That's exactly what I thought when reading the interview. I dont think this guy is really a fan of either franschise because of the way he merely states things. I am NOT a fan of twilight but when you give something an age category, it makes it seem as if he's trying to act as if he's too old for both HP and Twilight really. But he really did get it wrong though....Harry Potter is NOT for younger audiences only. If Bower hasnt realized yet that HP is a character that many ppl grew up with and actually had his adventures for about 11 years then I dont know what this guy knows about anything really! I mean I think he understood Twilight a little better than HP in a sense. Has he read the books of HP/watched the movies at least cuz if he has than he's pretty slow on the uptake of what audience should watch what. However, dude, seriously HP has a broad audience!!! Harry went through his life in the books as opposed to twilight where Bella is introduced in her late teens already. Harry grew from like a baby to a 37 year old man and fought dark wizards all his life with many of his family/friends dead for god's sake! How can the audience for that be "younger"?" All I can say is he'll probably do an excellent job as Gridelwald but do your research first before you take a role in such huge franchises!

I loved Jamie in Sweeny Todd. Anyway, I can't wait to see him portray Grindlewald. I think he'll do a fantastic job!

Graduated | Ehhh... I think Harry Potter isn't just for a younger fan base.
I think it is for everybody of every age.
I don't think he has ever read the books, and if he hasn't; (Which I am pretty sure that he hasn't) then he shouldn't just judge HP to be what he thinks, is for "younger people."
But oh, well. It's his opinion. But he should only talk about things that he really understands, and not just guess at what he thinks is supposed to be the fan base age. It seems likes he's putting "older" people down for liking Harry Potter, just because he thinks it's for kids (Even though he really isn't putting us down, I just feel that way xD)
I wish he would understand the characters that he is playing, and do his research, and maybe read the seventh book so he sort of gets the idea of how Grindlewald really is.
But AGAIN, I have to keep reminding myself that that's HIS opinion. But HEY, on a good note:
I agree with Padfoot7, he ROCKED in Sweeny Todd.
So I may be surprised.

I think Harry Potter is more for all ages, not a young fan base.

Regarding this interview, I thought it was all right, I think what he's referring to was that Twilight books are far more - let's say, descriptive with things, and kids are not really meant to read them..

| ♥ Mrs. Itachi Uchiha™ & MAJNOO! : Bleach & Kyo & Natsume ♥ [ Maxh!Jesh ] Sorry, Jamie, but HP has a wider audience. [Not that I have anything against Twilight.] It's just that HP's more famous, globally. To give an instance, where I live, a LOTTT of people know about Harry Potter, but VERY few have read - let alone heard of - Twilight. |

In my personal opinion Harry Potter is universal it doesn't appeal to a younger audience it appeals to every age

| Changeable Funnily enough I still don’t like the fact that he’s playing Grindelwald after reading this, he obviously hasn’t done very much research. I hope that someone at least tells him about the history between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. |

So, basically, he wants to stay neutral. Good choice. Both movies will be well viewed, of course. That sure doesn't hurt his career.

i agree with practically all of you. he sounds,no offence to the guy he is great, like he hasnt read twilight or something...or is not a fan of either.i dont know that many 16,17 or 18 year olds that are silly enough to enjoy twilight anyway.and i admire your reserve PROF MCGONAGAL,we have a much nastier term for THAT particular series.Look,if you like Twilight, you like Twilight,i'm not one to judge, but dont pretend like its great 'literature' or anything.
oh and Jamie Bower is a small enough (for now) british actor who has appeared in Sweeney Todd, and is to be a vampire in New Moon and young Gwindewald in Deathly Hallows. I kinda think he suits the role of Gwindy myself,he has that slightly odd mystery about him that i'd imagine a powerful wizard like Gwindewald would have!
