Post Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - What did you think?

As the famous tagline says, 'It All Ends.' But not for die-hard Harry Potter fans.

The SnitchSeeker news team invites all members of the site, and fans from around the world, to partake in a discussion right here about the finale of the incredible Harry Potter saga, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, set to hit theatres on Friday, July 15, 2011, in most countries.

Several nations released the final film as early as Wednesday, so we again invite everyone to discuss their favourite parts of the final film, what they'll miss the most, what broke their hearts and made them laugh out loud. Come one and all, and celebrate the end of the Harry Potter film series right here.

Yes, spoilers are allowed in the comments, for those who have seen it. Members are allowed to ask one another questions about the finale, and the series as a whole if they so choose to. This is an open discussion on the finale, once again, and of course, all site and forums rules apply.

Everyone sitting and waiting for midnight shows tonight - have fun, and don't forget to bring some tissues! We hope you enjoy the movie; the news staff has seen the film, and will agree with Daniel Radcliffe when we say it is the best of the franchise by far.

So, without further ado... Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - What did you think?!

One last note: rest assured that this is hardly the end of the Harry Potter fandom, and hardly the end of SnitchSeeker. It is indeed another chapter closed in the fandom (the first being four years ago with the release of the seventh book), but there is so much more to come. From Pottermore to Harry Potter: the Exhibition and the Harry Potter Leavesden Tours in the UK, Harry Potter will live on forever. We hope you stick with us for the entire ride.

** CONTAINS SPOILERS **

I really loved the movie as a whole, even though there were parts that seriously bugged me...
- I thought the reactions to Harry's "death" could have been way more dramatic. Ginny was the only one who seemed really devastated... I loved Professor McGonagall's reaction in the book and I was sad that we didn't get to see it...
- I felt like some parts (such as Harry & Voldemort's fight/flight in the end) were added just so they would look good in 3D and that really annoyed me.
- I would have liked to see more of the actual fight in the great hall. Also - it's been a while since I last read book 7, so correct me if I'm wrong here - didn't the final duel take place in the great hall, too? So why did they do it outside?
- I think as a filmmaker you should make choices as to which characters to keep and which to get rid of. What I don't like is when characters that played a fairly important role in the book (e.g. Teddy, Dumbledore's sister...), are mentioned in one short sentence just to make sure that no one can complain about them being omitted altogether. Seriously, either do it right or don't do it at all!
- Yates!!! Do. Not. Add. Deaths. !!!!
- What's up with Gandalf the White?

Enough with the ranting, though. I DID like it a lot and there certainly were many many scenes that had me in tears. There even were a few scenes that I may have liked a little better than in the book. For example the Piertotum Locomotor/Protego Maxima scene was perfect and sent shivers down my spine!! The setting, the tone, the music (!!!), everything!!
Also the epilogue scene turned out a lot less cheesy than I thought it would be. The kid they chose for Albus Severus is super cute (not so sure about Rose, though...) and Daniel Radcliffe really has the father thing down.. ;-)
A few other things I'd like to add:
- Holy moley, Ralph Fiennes has an evil laugh!!
- I LOVED Neville and the fact that he was portrayed as a hero withough being out of character (the Neville/Scabior scene was hilarious!)
- Obviously, THE kiss was amazing and I thought it was the cutest thing ever when Ron went after Goyle shouting "She's my girlfriend!!"... and the hand-holding scene with Harry smiling at them in the end.
- Dan, Rupert and Emma amaze me!

My favourite HP movie ever!
I loved THE kiss!
Neville was great!
Dan's best performance, in my humble opinion!
Exscuse all the exclamation marks, but I'm so hyped up
I cried during the Prince's Tale and I'm not even a Snape fan - very well done
THE line was great!
McGonagall saying "I always wanted to do that spell." and "Yes, boom!" or something like that, I can't remember everything

Great movie, but I wanted more!! This could have been spit into two movies to cover all that was not shown or be three hours long. It was great in 3D IMAX!!

The surprising thing that on the first day of showing, 4pm IMAX 3D show, the theater was about half full. LOTS of empty seats down front. We got in line two hours early but there were only five people in line then, and the line never got very long.

I will have to buy this when it comes out just to be able to see all the stuff I missed the first time through!!

SPOILERS included:
I absolutely loved the movie, saw it in 3D(glasses resemble Harry's) and am seeing it tomorrow(Sun.) in IMax. The movie sticks pretty closely to the book and it's exciting, scary, sad, some light moments, emotional, spectacular!!! Loved Minerva, Neville, Flitwick, the dragon(I felt so bad for the treatment that poor beast had endured), everyone was great.
Severus's death was awful to "see" and it was wonderful to see that the 'memory' was very similar to the book, not as long, but good. Wonderful performance by Alan Rickman.
I could go on and write a long review, but suffice it to say. Don't miss this movie and if you can't see it in the theaters, grab a DVD or Bluray when they come out.

Well all in all, the film was amazing, but the Ron/hermione kiss was quite disappointing to me cause Harry wasn't thee to tell them off and Ron didn't mention anything whatsoever about rescuing the house elves. They just both lunged at each other. It was really unexpected. And secondly, I really don't think that the film should have been in 3D for the amount of 3D that ws in it. I didn't see anything happen in the film that was 3D (just the adverts before the film stared). They should have just done it in 2D because if a child where to have just walked in to the screening not knowing what D it was, then they would definatley not have got on to the fact that it was 3D.

If they had done it that way it would not have made much sense because for the whole series they left out house elves almost entirely before randomly bringing back Dobby and Kreacher because they are "finally important" to the story (that's in quotes because house elves were always a good part of the story. The movies really goofed on that part though). So since Hermione's obsession with the elves was never introduced it would have been silly to give Ron that line.

Did anyone else notice little nods to the past films? Like the cornish pixies in RoR, from CoS? or in the epilogue (at least I think that's where it was), there was a flying paper bird, from the scene in OotP in Umbridge's first class? I'll have to look for more when i see it again

I just thought of something.....WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO WORMTAIL? And, are we now supposed to believe Lavender is dead? In the book Greyback runs to attack her but Trelawney dropped a crystal ball on his head, in this one, we clearly see him feeding, and Lavender laying there, unmoving and completely pale.

I thought it was pretty good! I went to the midnight launch (which was wicked!) and i went the same day with my friends - im seeing it Monday with my Dad and then next weekend in London - so im planning to see it alot which must mean i like it, right?! Ahaha 3D is absolutly amazing (i havnt seen it in 2D yet) and i would definitley recomend it to anyone who likes action movies!! There is so much going on so i wont give it away to anyone who hasnt seen it but i will say that the scene with Lavender and Greyback was my favourite becuase it sums up the danger they are all in as no one is holding back anymore and at the end when they play 'Leaving Hogwarts' it really did make me cry! Its a big build up in the music as it ends with the trio - you really cant miss it!

My childhood is officially ending tonight as I'm going to see the film for the first time... I don't know what to do, I'm so nervous, excited, sad, happy... everything at the same time I want to see it but then again I don't... After reading your posts I think I need to go and buy an extra package of tissues on the way to the cinema.

i loved it!! the movie was fantastic! i saw it twice already. Seeing it a second time, made me realize my childhood has ended and it is time to move on. I cried a lot during the movie. It was a very sad/tense atmosphere. The effects were amazing and their was a little humor in it that was enjoyable. I cried when the credits came on. The epilogue they couldn't of done any better but i don't think they show teddy lupin.

I thought it was great overall, but of course, I have a few complaints about it not staying as true to the book as I would have like. I know this is to be expected, but it's just simple things that could have been so easily changed. For example, when Harry 'dies' and goes to wherever it is he goes, Dumbledore, in the book, wasn't the same as he was previously when he was alive. He was extremely apologetic and confessed his faults, rather than being stereotypical Dumbledore, where he acts sort of all-knowing and seems to always know something you (or Harry) doesn't. In the movie, Dumbledore acted the latter.

I finally got round to see the film today and I feel the need to discuss about it

First of all, Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman were legendary, in my opinion they totally made this film I was happy that McGonagall got more scenes than in the previous films, she deserved that. However, I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have the 'Potter, that was very gallant...' and 'Horace, we duel to kill' lines, but at least that was compensated by Minerva-scenes that weren't in the books. Also, the Prince's Tale was done excellently, even the actor who played young Severus was great for the part. I cried when I saw Snape hugging Lily after she died in Godric's Hollow, it was very emotional.

The trio did well overall, but I think Emma was the best by far. Dan's acting was good, but not spectacular, and I believe Rupert is much like Ron in real life so it wasn't such an effort from his part. The funny moments were well spread along the action, and I loved every single one. On the other hand, seeing Hogwarts destroyed was extremely distressing, I got goosebumps ever since McGonagall said 'Hogwarts is threatened.' The Battle of Hogwarts was epic, no comment there.

One thing I didn't like was that Tonks's and Lupin's deaths were dealt with very sketchy, I didn't feel anything, whereas when reading the book I was really sad at that part. Tonks didn't even have any lines, that was downright annoying! And the way Voldemort and Bellatrix sort of explode at the end was very weird. Also, there was no need for 3D whatsoever.

But there were more things that I loved. Julie Walters nailed THE line perfectly, the R/Hr kiss was as expected, Aberforth was as I imagined him when reading the book, and the epilogue was absolutely brilliant! Although most people disliked the King's Cross scene, I was quite content with it, though I must admit Dumbledore was a bit too Gandalf-like.

Dumbledore's story was left out, which was disappointing, but I am not very upset about that since the Prince's Tale and Epilogue were done perfectly, as those were the parts I was most looking forward to. Helena Bohnam-Carter was fantastic, as usual, and I especially liked her as polyjuiced Hermione at Gringotts. Ralph Fiennes was good as well, but still, no one could compare with Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman

Hogwarts destroyed and the epilogue made me feel melancholic, but this is by no means the end for us Potter fans. We can always re-read the books, watch the films, and now there's Pottermore to look forward to. I'm also very excited to get DH part 2 on DVD and watch my favourite scenes over and over again.

Overall, it was a great film, although maybe DH part 1 was slightly better. Nevertheless, it did the book justice and it gave a good ending to the story of our generation.

I think this film was the best of them all. I cried numerous times but it was really well put together unlike some of the other movies. Though some improvements could be made.

Okay, so I've just watched the movie... what can I say? It's difficult. I love how the movie takes the viewer on an emotional ride but I dare to say that I hate HOW this is done. Everything's quite epic and blabla... yeah I love that fact but why is it all about the special effects and the "OOH! AAHH!" experience, when the book and the story gave us so many characters that we have grown to love?
What did Fred die for in the movie? Right, for NOTHING! What did he die for in the book? For much much more. You know what I'm talking about.
Well, since it is a written story, everyone can picture it as they want, so it's hard to do everyone justice. But some things were just missing...although I've got to say there were parts that I thought were missing in the books and were added in the film, like for example the chamber of secrets scene and the enhanced Voldemort vs Harry fight. But then so much original story was missing....
I'm not saying that I hate the movie, actually when I went out of the cinema I had a feeling of satisfaction from the movie, (which is always a good sign ) I really liked the ending parts, since you could feel that old, nostalgic Harry Potter atmosphere again - after hours of battling and fighting and death and darkness and special effects all around you. BUT like I said, the last movies, especially the Deathly Hallows parts, were focused to much on visualization. It was really good and epic, but it lead to the fact that some other aspects went missing... A better storytelling for example, more logic, more explanations... I know the books, and many other people do too, but some things have to be explained! If not, the movie remains incomplete. The ending wraps it up nicely, but looking at it as a whole, it is incomplete, which is a real shame... They should have tried to link everything in a better way, without rushing the story, without necessarily packing it with special effects. They had the time to do so, I mean, they split it in two parts, didn't they? And the opportunity was there in part 2... there would've been a lot of time left to use. But instead of interaction of characters, we only see Voldemort and Bellatrix turning to ashes.

So how can I sum it up? I can't decide... I really liked it, I cried a lot and I loved many many scenes. But somehow I still think it could have been... well, maybe more like the old movies.

"Always" // "all was well."

i just saw the movie, i loved it. somethings were changed or left out but i loved it.
i cried the whole way through, especially the prince's tale. poor severus
THE EPILOGUE was good, love that some of my fav book quotes were in the movie. Dan plays a dad so well, i would love to be the mother of his kids but as that won't happen i do hope he is happy with whomever he is with. it seems snape came off as a sarifical, redeemed character in the film as some lines were changed and it looked like harry was sad and wanted to save him.

Thumbs up Just saw the film

Just saw the film today. It was very well done. I was looking forward to the line (unless I missed something) where Harry and Voldemort are on the battlements and he has Harry by the throat and says why do you live and Harry says because I have something worth living for. Did I miss that or wasn't it in the final cut? I saw it in previews.
The Princes Tale was done really well. You really feel sorry for Snape and realize he lost the love of his life too.
The epilogue was done well and they all looked there ages instead of looking like grandparents. I wish they had more dialogue and I thought Lily was supposed to have been asking when she could go to hogwarts.
Overall I thought it was good. We had a power surge in the theatre though and it was right when Harry is going into the forest!!! The sound got knocked out and they stopped the film and rewound it and replayed 3 minutes of it for us that we missed. That is not good with a theatre full of Harry Potter fans.
I also noticed alot of older people there! That was pretty cool.
Going to see it again at the end of the week!!!
loved the kiss it was cute!

This movie was drop dead amazing. There are so many words that can be used to describe how epic of a finale it was. Although some of it seems unrealisitic when you think about the film after it is over, while watching it, you become completely entranced by everything that is going on on the screen. At one point during my first time seeing it, I desperately had to use the restroom and sprinted as fast as I could to get back to my seat! The epilogue was such a great ending, but I wish it was longer. It was very believable. I cannot believe HP is over, but like they say, "All good things must come to an end". And HP was not just good, it was great!

The movie was good, I enjoyed it and spilled many tears. The poor dragon down in Gringotts - it was excellent how they've made that dragon to show the miserable life it had down there. Shame, the way it trembled when it expected more pain...the skin, the wounds around it's neck, the pale skin. I totally agreed with Hermione when she said it is barbaric.

There were many touching scenes and the one where little Harry cries in his cot while Snape is holding Lily...that was intense. The scene where Bellatrix was finished off by Molly was quite enjoyable and the humor when Prof. McGonnogal said:" I've always wanted to use that spell...". That kind of humor coming from her was just the thing to break some of the tension.

The battle between Harry and Voldemort - yes, unfortunately I wish they had stayed closer to the real story line. Harry did not run away from Voldemort in the book - the movie sort of depicted him still as the scared little boy as oposed to the book. I really would have like to see the battle in the great hall and the subsequent celebrations when everybody realised Voldemort was dead. And the way they made him disintegrate like poor stuttering what's his name in the Philosopher stone, that spoiled the movie for me.
