Post 'Goblet of Fire' gets an M rating in Australia

'Goblet of Fire' has been given an M rating in Australia. This means it is recommended for those who are 15 and over however there is no actual restriction on who can see the film or whether parents should accompany children to see it. The reasons given were 'Moderate fantasy violence' which 'contains material that requires a mature perspective.'

actually it isnt rated M 15+, just M. The rating system slightly changed recently and i you dont need to be 15 and over to see it. Its recomended that you be 15 +. check it our here: http://www.oflc.gov.au/content.html?...&record=209815

That's a pretty strict rating, but at least you still can see it if you're younger than that age.

Rating Systems in Australia are actually quite good.

G - These films are for general viewing. The content is very mild.

PG - These films contain material that a parent might need to explain to younger children. The content is mild.

M - These films contain material that requires a mature perspective. The content is moderate. (NO RESTRICTION)

M 15+ - People under 15 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian for the duration of the film in the cinema. Parental permission to see an MA 15+ film is not sufficient. People under 15 are not permitted to hire or buy films classified MA 15+.
The content is strong.

R - People under 18 cannot see these films in the cinema or buy or hire them. High impact content.

Its actually quite a good raiting.

The M rating just says that it's recommended for mature audiences, and the content is moderate in impact. ANYBODY can go see an M-rated film, but be aware that it is for MATURE audiences, and if you're under the age of 12, they're probably going to expect parental guidance.

I'm expecting OotP to get an MA 15+. This means that the content is strong in impact, and it's not suitable for people under 15. If you're under 15, you must be accompanied by an adult.

Don't confuse M with MA 15+. I think it's good it got an M rating, because it's not that very appropriate with all the 5 and 6 year olds going. He's getting older now, the story is getting darker, it is not a children's story which everyone presumes. The characters are maturing, which is why it deserves a mature rating. Stop saying that it's crazy and you're glad you don't live in Australia and it's harsh unless you actually live in Australia and know the ratings very well!

Yeah I did kind of saying it's not actually restrictive. So much for Potter fans actually reading, eh Chris?

i dont think OOTP will get MA, maybe HBP. And there is also a new rating in Aust "X". Ill leave your imagination to figure out whats in those type of films...

And Kurisuchiina i dont think u get the concept that there are 'M' ratings, 'M 15+' and 'MA 15+'. Just letting u know.

Nah I think Ootp will get a MA-15+ just because of the final 3 chapters. A few people die in that book, most being death eaters but some more significant (dont want to spoil anything). Curses are a plenty and if they do the curses properly, seeing the cruxios curse being applied and the people in the hospital is going to be very very full on.

Wink OH YEAH!!!! I just can't wait anymore......

HAhahaha Australia is so hardcore!

I love Aust YAYNESS! :bounce:

I'm still miffed about the waiting till Dec thing but I'm not so P'd as I was before! *runs off coz tickets are now on sale online *

EDIT: As usual I have totally skipped over previous comments in order to have my say (won't be doing that again).
I'm hurt disappointed at all the comments that have been saying they feel glad they don't live in Australia. I'm sure Emma has said quite clearly that those under the age of 15 can most definately see it as long as they have adult supervision.

This means that there are no restrictions on younger veiwers and therefore any HP lover can see it (given they are ready for it because the movie is dark...My bro is 8 & he is mature enough to see it so I'm very proud taking him). I'm just saying this as a proud Australian, HP lover and someone that just wants everyone to be happy. I just don't want anyone having misconceptions about my country is all...

That's kinda like PG-13 in the US, because though it is advised not to be under 13 to see it, anyone can still go.

Doesn't matter where I live! I'm 15. But I live in California in the USA. Still...
Doesn't matter! So M must stand for PG-13 here in the US.

really? YES! no little kids!
How come everyone refers to it as a 'kids' thing. It's really advanced, but I suppose the people who haven't read the books dont know that.

WOOH! YES! If i lived in Australia, that means i could see the movie, because i officially turned 15 on sunday. It's kind of funny because i was reading this and i'm like "Wow, i wouldn't be able to go see the movie in Australia." And then i remembered i could!

...only i live in the US.

They said that PoA was going to be M, and by the time it was released it was PG. I can see the same thing happening, they did a few campaigns on Sunrise last year and people came to their senses. It doesn't bother me too much, I am still going to be able to go ('m older then 15, obviously) but I know that this is only going to enhance younger teenagers interest in going.

Ummm i'm from australia and "M" rating means nothing... either does "M 15+", Only "MA 15+" Restricts people under 18 seeing a film. So anyone can go see it.

... and want to see the movies.
