Film Score Daily is
reporting that French composer
Alexandre Desplat, who has conducted the scores for such features as
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,
The Golden Compass,
The Queen,
Julie & Julia, and
The Twilight Saga: New Moon, is to create the music for the first installment of the final
Harry Potter films,
Deathly Hallows: Part I.
Quote:
He has become the director-of-choice for many of the world's most acclaimed directors, including Fincher, Stephen Frears, Terence Malick and Roman Polanski, and has signed for one his most challenging and highest-profile assignments yet, the penultimate entry in the Harry Potter saga.
It is unknown whether Desplat will compose music for
Deathly Hallows: Part II, but we will update with further information when it is released.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released on November 19, 2010 and July 15, 2011.
Thanks very much to
whimsicalflautist for the tip!
UPDATE: Film Score Daily has let us know that they were given the information about Desplat by the composer's agents, thus confirming this. However, they have no word on the second movie.
