Post Alexandre Desplat confirmed to compose Deathly Hallows: Part I score

Film Score Daily is reporting that French composer Alexandre Desplat, who has conducted the scores for such features as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Golden Compass, The Queen, Julie & Julia, and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, is to create the music for the first installment of the final Harry Potter films, Deathly Hallows: Part I.

Quote:
He has become the director-of-choice for many of the world's most acclaimed directors, including Fincher, Stephen Frears, Terence Malick and Roman Polanski, and has signed for one his most challenging and highest-profile assignments yet, the penultimate entry in the Harry Potter saga.
It is unknown whether Desplat will compose music for Deathly Hallows: Part II, but we will update with further information when it is released.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released on November 19, 2010 and July 15, 2011.

Thanks very much to whimsicalflautist for the tip!

UPDATE: Film Score Daily has let us know that they were given the information about Desplat by the composer's agents, thus confirming this. However, they have no word on the second movie.

I loved the New Moon soundtrack. Alexandre Desplat is amazing!
I think he is a great choice for the HP movies. (or movie, since he's only doing one?)

I was expecting John Williams to score both DH1 and DH2. But I think Alexander Desplat is a great choice too. Maybe John Williams will do part 2 anyway. (I secretly hope so)

I know that John Williams and Nicolas Hooper created the music for HP before. Interesting, will Alexander Desplat be as good as they before were? I hope the music will be in similar stile.
I really like Hoopers music. I hope he will do part 2!

I hope he will produce beautiful scores and surpassed the beautiful music of the previous HP films composed and conducted by John Williams, Patrick Doyle and Nicholas Hooper, because Deathly Hallows is the finale in the series.

But i don't expect too much because i don't wanna be dissapointed anymore.

(i don't like New Moon soundtracks, by the way)

Hope it turns out well!

Just to echo nearly everyone else who's posted already so far; No John Williams?

Alexandre Desplat must be very professional and talented.
I hope the soundtrack will be great like the others.

My Cherie Amour

The New Moon soundtrack was awesome and the numbers that sold on day one of its release prove that fact...so look at facts please people. The Golden Compass soundtrack was nice too.

Omg! He is incredible! I absolutly love his work!!!! I hope he does dh2.

Though it would be interesting to see John Williams come back, he's just as good as Alexandre.

This guy will do fine. I loved the twilight saga New Moons score. Ive never really had any problems with musical score's in film before and i'm not expecting any here either.

He will. But we should admit that the new moon soundtrack didnt fit some part in the movie and that was really bad!

I think some of you are confusing "soundtrack" with "score." New Moon had both, and it was the soundtrack that made the money it did. Desplat has been nominated for two Oscars in the past couple years. He's very talented, but I wish Williams was coming back just so he can finish what he started.

I loved the music of New Moon.

Logic says he should compose for both parts in order to keep unity. But who knows.

Default A very long long rant
ℭreative-tastic| ✿ Color Magnet ✿

I'm trying very hard to stay open-minded about this but I don't think I can. This is honestly the BIGGEST blow I've recieved in HP news since the date change of HBP. This honestly meant a lot to me for John Williams to come back and finish it off. Did WB confirm it, since it says only the Film Score Daily is reporting it?

I mean I know the Curious Case of Benjamin Button was an amazing film but to hear Twilight in the mix is making me a bit anxious (honestly my heart is pounding). I know that Twilight's soundtrack was completely different from the terrible film and it stood on its own but still...why must they mix Twilight and HP together in any way...they are 2 different things and filmmaker/crew of the different films shouldn't merge for good reason!

I know I will listen to his score because it will be good but it was John Williams I wanted. I hope hope hope that John Williams comes back for Part II.
