heart A Little Golden Rose - Sa16+

This will be my second official fanfic. My first one is My Life Flipped. Go ahead and check it out
Disclaimer: I own some characters. Most belongs to J.K.Rowling.
Here's the first part.
I like constructive criticism (just so you know )
Enjoy!
P.S. just so you know, this story takes place way before Harry's time. Around 1924 if you want to be specific.

The petite, sixteen year old girl silently trudged down the cellar stairs. She yawned, and glanced at the barely working clock sitting on top of the table. 11:50.
Another long night. She thought to herself.
Her father and two brothers had already gone to bed two hours previously. They had left her alone in the kitchen to clean up the dinner things. After they had gone, the girl had snuck into the pantry and stolen some extra food, which she put into the pocket of her dirty apron. She wasn’t fed enough. She never was fed enough and her stomach always growled feebly.
She looked around the cellar that had to serve as her room. A bed stood in one corner, with a thread bare quilt strewn across it and a flat pillow slightly hanging off the edge. A lantern sat on the wooden table pushed against the wall. It served as the only light source for the room. The candle flickered. It was growing smaller and would probably last only an hour more. A square mirror was propped up against the wall. She briskly walked over to it and studied her figure.
Coralie was small for her age. She wore a too large faded green dress that made her look even smaller than she really was. She wore an apron on top of that. It was smudged with dirt and grease and was in need of a good wash.
I’ll get to that when I have time. She thought
Scowling, the girl tried to brush through her short brown curls with her fingers. It was matted and tangled and she only had a little comb, which was too small to completely brush through her hair.
After staring at her reflection for a minute, Coralie gingerly took her apron off and pulled the food out of her pockets.
She threw it in a heap on the table and stared at her hands. Burns, scraps, and scars were splattered over her forearms and palms. An owl had came while she was preparing dinner. It rapped on the window which made her jump, and she dropped three dishes.
Her father came into the kitchen, shouting as usual. He called her a filthy Squib and that she was no better than a house elf. Of course she didn’t care; he always said that. What frightened her was what he would do to her.
Coralie has been beaten, abused, and even starved.
“Thats a squibs life,” she muttered aloud.
Grabbing the food, she sat on her bed. It creaked ominously as she covered herself with the thin blanket. She tore apart the bread and ate, thinking. After a moment, she reached under her bed and pulled out a small journal. It was her mother’s.
“I wish you were here.” She grumbled, flipping open to the first picture.
It was just a picture of her mum. Coralie and her mother looked almost exactly alike. They both had the same shade of brown hair, and the same lively blue eyes. Or at least they were lively. Coralie’s eyes always looked dull and sad nowadays. She pulled a gold chain out from under the front of her dress and looked at her mother’s necklace. It was silver heart, a locket, that contained absolutely nothing.
Sighing, she returned the book to where it was and finished up her snack. Coralie stood up and walked over to the table. She blew out the candle, was plunged into pitch black, and felt her way back to her bed. Kicking off her boots, she laid down and fell asleep.

Ok, so I will post soon, and leave your replies.

Awwww thanks Connie
New post! This one's a little longer.

Reyes led Coralie to the back of the lot, and next to a row of cleanly cut hedges a set of double doors were visible. They belonged to a small shed, a building that was only about seven feet across by seven feet wide.
Coralie stopped. Her eyes gazed across to two miniature windows. Moth-eaten curtains were visible behind the dirty glass, and flower boxes were set underneath the windows. Reyes tapped his wand on the padlock that was slung across the door handles, which clicked open at the touch.
“This is not a shed.” Coralie said in awe as she leaned over to see in. The ‘shed’ was magically charmed, and what appeared to be a seven by seven building from the outside was actually more like 20 by 20 on the inside. She took a step closer and looked up, where a ladder led to part of an upper level.
“How long is this going to take?” she asked, looking around at the boxes and shelves of different things
She looked back at Reyes, who had a goofy grin plastered across his face.
“Relax.” he laughed. “I cleaned out most of it just a few weeks ago. I just need help up there.” He pointed to multiple boards suspended over a couple of rafters. “And in the back.”
“Oh. Okay.” she said faintly.
“You didn’t think all of our stuff was in the house, did you?” Reyes asked. “We just moved here not too long ago, and whatever didn’t make it into the house went out here.”
There was a sudden pop, and Coralie screamed and jumped aside. Jaxon apparated just next to her.
“Sage sent me down here. What’d I miss?” he asked, biting into an apple. He looked between the stunned face of Coralie and the grin on his cousin.
“Nothing.” the girl answered.
“So what did you need help with?” he continued.
Coralie nodded her head toward the shed. “In there.” she muttered.
“Oh.” His face fell as his eyes landed on all the boxes. “Well, this will be easy.”

“Do you need this?” Jaxon pulled back the flaps of an old cardboard box.
Reyes appeared next to him. He had various objects piled up in his arms. He tried to wipe his forehead with the back of his hand, but instead he dropped about half of the items.
“I don’t know, what’s in it?” he replied curtly.
Jaxon leaned over and pulled out a dirty pamphlet.
“Quidditch World Cup.” he said, flipping through some of the pages. “Argentina vs. Peru.”
“I remember that.” Said Reyes coming up behind him. He took the pamphlet from his cousin. “I met Sage there.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.” he said. He began to sift through the box’s contents.
“Wait, why didn’t you take me?” asked Jaxon, slightly offended.
After a minute, Reyes answered. “I couldn’t get another ticket.”
“Oh.”
“What’s the Quidditch World Cup? Asked Coralie. She was digging through another box nearby, but she looked up to ask the question.
“It’s a really big quidditch game.” Jaxon replied. “It’s held every few years. All the teams compete and the last two play against each other in this.” he tapped the pamphlet Reyes had given back.
“Sounds… interesting.” Coralie searched for the right words before turning back to the box.
“I’ve never been to one, but I really want to go.” He glared at Reyes, who was kneeling on the ground, trying to pick up the fallen objects.
“Hey Coralie, what’s in there?” He completely ignored Jaxon’s comment.
“Um, a couple of photo albums, some letters, and whatever this is.” She held up another slightly smaller box
“I think that’s my old chess set.” he responded, squinting at the faded paper. “If it is, you can have it. I never play it anymore.”
“Are you sure? I don’t even know how to play chess.” she said.
“I’ll teach you. The pieces should be somewhere with it.” With a look of exasperation, Reyes pulled out his wand. He pointed it at the pile of junk which lifted into the air and floated down the ladder. He followed close behind it.
Coralie stared as the objects disappeared into a pile just outside the door. Slowly, she returned to digging through the box.
“I think I found them.” she called.
“Okay.” She heard Reyes’s muffled call from outside.
“Can you hold these?” Coralie held out two paper bags to Jaxon, but he wasn’t looking at her. “Jaxon?”
“Did you hear that?” he snapped.
Coralie pulled back. “Hear what?”
The boy’s eyes narrowed momentarily. He climbed down the ladder to the back of the shed.
“Jaxon?” Coralie called, her voice laced with worry.
She quickly scrambled down the ladder to follow. “Jaxon, what’s wrong?”
She found the boy facing a large crate. It was set back in the corner and if Coralie squinted she could see it shaking slightly. A low humming was emitting from under the lid.
“What is it?”
Jaxon silently pulled out his wand. Moving forward he threw back the lid on the wooden crate.

A shadow came out from under the lid, morphing; Changing colors and changing shape. The boggart looked between its two victims, silently choosing who to attack. The boy was on his guard. He held a wand aloft, his fingers tightly coiled around it. The boggart couldn’t read his fears, they were mixed and it was too complicated to pick one distinctive fear. The girl was easier though. She feared one thing above all else…

Coralie didn’t know what she saw. The array of colors and shapes was confusing. She felt Jaxon tense up next to her, and saw the grip on his wand tighten. He said something, but Coralie was too caught up with the creature in front of her. The shadow finally solidified, growing limbs and wearing patched-up, dirty clothes.
It was her father.
“Coralie.” Boggart-Charles rasped. “How could you?” It advanced on her, but she couldn’t move; she was rooted to the spot.
Jaxon tried to push her out of the way.
“How could you betray your family? Christopher… Carson… Your mother? Remember that? You’re the reason she’s dead.”
“No.” Coralie shook her head, tears spilling down her cheeks.
“You’ll pay.” It growled. Boggart- Charles took another few steps toward the girl.
“Stay away from her.” Jaxon spat. “Ridikkulus!”
The creature shuddered, but it didn’t move. It’s eyes changed from her to him.
“And you.”
The boggart shifted again, changing to Addy. It crumpled to the ground, stone dead.
Jaxon let out a startled yelp.
“Riddikulus!”
The spell came from behind Jaxon. Reyes strode forward, his expression a mixture of anger and determination.
The boggart exploded. Confetti-like pieces flew in different directions, which then dissolved in the air.
“Are you all right?” Reyes glanced at Jaxon’s pale face. He gulped, but his attention was on Coralie. “I’ll get Sage.” he continued, storming out the way he came in.
The girl had fell to her knees, and she was sobbing into her hands.
“Coralie?” he whimpered. He kneeled down next to her. “Listen to me. It was fake. It wasn’t real. Your father isn’t here; He’s in jail. You’re safe.”
He wrapped his arms around Coralie, pulling her into his chest. She didn’t reply, but she nodded feebly.
“You’re safe.” he repeated.

I think I'll stop there.

Hey Seneca. My goodness! You had me holding my breath! Those poor kids having to deal with that Boggart. So, good work by the way slipping in that little bit about Coralie's mother's death being her fault. Now I want more than ever to see that journal she keeps hid away. Will we find out soon? I'll be watching. Great work Seneca. Oh, and by the way, I enjoyed the chapter being longer.

I'm soooo sorry this post is so short! I promise I'll post more soon though.

Sage was in the middle of cleaning the kitchen when Reyes came running through the door.
“Hey…” she started, but stopped when she saw her husbands face. “What’s wrong?”
“There was a boggart… In a crate in the back of the shed.” he rambled.
“What… How? What happened?”
“I don’t really know. I went outside to throw some things away… I heard a shout, so I ran back in. The next thing I know Charles Davids is advancing on Coralie.”
Sage’s hand flew up to her mouth and her forehead creased in worry. “Oh my god. Is Coralie alright?”
“I think so. But that’s not it. The boggart turned to Jaxon and changed into Addy.”
“Addy? Why would he be afraid of Addy?”
“Dead Addy.” Reyes corrected. “That’s when I jumped in.”
Sage put some dishes away in the cupboard. “And they’re both okay?”
“Yes.” he said. “I left them together.”
“Don’t leave them out there.” said Sage. “Bring them back here. I’ll make them some tea.” Even as she was talking, she was throwing an old copper teapot on the stove.
Reyes nodded in agreement before turning to go back outside.
“And just when everything was beginning to look up for her…” she muttered under her breath. She filled the teapot with water and turned the stove on high.

Was that ok?

Hey Seneca. Short but still very good. This storyline with the Boggart is making me wonder if maybe Coralie is a witch and not a Squib. I'm thinking of Tom Riddle's mother who couldn't hardly do magic because she was so emotionally suppressed. I wonder if the trauma of her mother dieing and her father and brothers treating her so horrible suppressed her magic. Please don't think I expect you to answer or say anything about my theory. I'll gladly wait and see what you have for us. I look forward to seeing more from you soon.

Thanks Connie! We'll find out
Here's the next part!

Silence.
Coralie pushed her teacup aside and put her head down on the table. She anxiously glanced at the family around her, then finally settled to stare at the floral pink print on the ceramic cup. Jaxon’s fingers curled tightly around his own teacup; He was staring down at the wood grains, not even paying attention to the now cold tea his aunt had made.
So much had happened, and it wasn’t even lunchtime.
“So Jaxon.” Sage made an attempt at conversation. “What time are your parents expecting you?”
The boy shrugged his shoulders.
“Oh.” She fell silent.
“I brought in that old chess set.” Reyes stated. “Why don’t you play?”
Jaxon was about to shake his head, but his cousin stood up and said, “I’ll go get it.”

Five minutes later, Coralie and Jaxon were sitting on the floor in the living room. Reyes was able to start a fire in the small fireplace in the corner of the room, and was now sitting in an old recliner. Sage had remained in the kitchen. She was cleaning up the teapot and almost-full teacups.
“…so the rook can move horizontally or vertically.” Jaxon was explaining. “And the bishop can move diagonally.”
“Okay.” The girl replied with absolutely no enthusiasm or interest. She moved a bishop, accidentally revealing her queen in the process.
Jaxon took no notice of this and moved a different piece.
“Reyes, can you come here?” Sage’s voice was feeble from the kitchen.
The man stood up, and when he was out of earshot, Jaxon spoke up.
“Are you sure you’re ok?” he whispered.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” Coralie flipped one of his captured pawns over in her fingers.
“No you’re not.” he observed.
“What makes you say that?”
“You’re not too into the game.” He stated. “That’s my piece.” Jaxon smiled, pointing to the black knight Coralie was about to reach for.
“Oh.” she pulled back her hand and looked at the multiple white pieces on the board.
“So I take it it’s about your dad.” The boy pressed.
“It’s nothing.”
“No, it’s not nothing. It’s about what he said. Coralie, I was right there. I heard what the boggart said to you.”
“Jaxon, not now-”
“What did it mean? ‘You’re the reason she’s dead’?”
“I don’t want to talk about this!”
Coralie dropped the chess piece and stood up, storming out of the room without another word. She walked into the kitchen where she found Reyes and Sage talking. Their heads were bent together, and they were talking urgently under their breath. The two stopped when they saw Coralie approaching.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, looking from one to the other.
“Nothing.” Said Sage quickly. She glared at Reyes.
“It’s nothing you need to worry about.” Reyes said, returning the look at his wife.
Coralie decided not to press the matter.
“I’m going for a walk.” she muttered, heading for the door.
“Where’s Jaxon?” Sage asked, but Coralie was already out the door. “Don’t go too far,” she called after her.

Let's leave it at that.

Thank you!
Here's the next part!!

Coralie walked down the path that led to the dirt road. She followed alongside of it, absently kicking stones at her feet and looking at the forest surrounding her.
Trees flanked either side of the road, but nothing could be seen beyond the first few rows. A clear pale blue sky was visible through the overhanging branches. Turning around, she realized she could no longer see the cottage. She thought about turning back, but instead she kept on trudging along the lane.
The road was windy; It would suddenly slope downward one minute then slope upward the next. Coralie continued to walk. She was deep in thought when she noticed the trees had suddenly cleared away. The road had continued onto a hill, where in forked into two different directions. A tall sign stood in the middle. As Coralie moved closer, she was able to read the two arrows that lead in either direction. The right read ‘Great Hangleton, 2 Miles’ and the left read ‘Little Hangleton, 4 Miles’.
She looked both ways: The flat stretch of land that led to the right, and the downward slope that led to the left.
She decided on the right. The road was clearer and shorter.
Coralie began to continue down the road when the sudden clopping noise of hooves startled her. She turned around, staring at the young man sitting atop a large chestnut horse. As he came closer and his eyes fell on Coralie, he waved his hand in hello.
The girl turned back around, but she couldn’t ignore that the clopping noises were getting louder and closer to her.
“Woah.” She heard him say to the horse. It slowed to a walk next to her.
“And where would you be heading?” The man asked.
Coralie looked up at him. “I’m just walking.” she said with a small smile.
“I see.” He stopped the chestnut horse and dismounted. He pulled the reins into his left hand and moved to it’s other side to walk alongside with her.
“May I keep you company?”
She nodded slightly. Now that the man was only the ground, Coralie noticed that he was almost a head taller than her. He was dark-haired and his eyes were a blueish-green.
“I’m Tom.” He said suddenly. “Tom Riddle. Who are you?”
“Coralie Davids.” she said in return.
“Davids?” Tom asked. “I don’t know any David’s around here. Do you live close by?”
“I’m staying with some friends.” she replied. “They live back a little.” Coralie gestured to the road behind them.
“My family owns some land in Little Hangleton.” Said Tom. “I live there with my parents.”
“Then where are you going?”
“My girlfriend asked me to run some errands in Great Hangleton.” He said simply.
“Oh.”
“She’s beautiful, but she can be a handful.” He smirked. “So is there any reason you’re heading into town?”
“No. I’m just taking a walk.” she repeated.
“Walks are nice.” he commented. “Especially today.” He looked up at the sky.
They kept walking, now at a quicker pace to keep up with the horse Tom was still holding. When the road finally came to the town, Coralie stopped and looked at the large wooden sign on the side of the road. It was white, and ‘Great Hangleton’ was painted in curly dark red letters in the middle. Past the sign large brick buildings sat on either side of the now-gravel road. Horses and people walked up and down the lane. Children weaved in and out of the alleys between the buildings, their parents shouting after them.
She felt the man staring at her.
“Have you never been here before?” he asked.
“No.” she said. “I don’t get out too much.”
“Well I would love to give you a tour, but I’m afraid I must go. It was wonderful to meet you.” Tom Riddle waved before leading the horse to a shop across the road.
Coralie stared after him. It wasn’t until after he disappeared into the store did she look away.
A little blonde boy of about six bumped into her as he ran by. He shouted a ‘sorry’ over his shoulder. Coralie jumped aside as three more kids ran by her, laughing and trying to catch the little boy.
“Wait, guys wait up!” An exhausted looking teenage girl was chasing after the kids. She stopped in front of Coralie and bent over, gasping for air.
“Are they yours?” she asked.
The girl looked up, then at the kids in the distance. “Yes… well no. The blonde one’s my brother but the others are his friends. Their parents asked me to watch them.”
“Oh.”
She straightened up, and Coralie noticed that she was a few inches shorter than her. She had long blonde hair that was pulled back into a braid, pale green eyes, and a splash of freckles across her nose and cheeks.
“I’m Lyra.” She said, holding out her hand.
“Coralie.”
“Do you live around here?” she asked. “I don’t think I’ve seen you around before.”
“I just moved in with some friends temporarily.”
Lyra looked back at the kids. “Well, it was nice to meet you, Coralie, but I must be going. I hope I’ll see you around.”
“Yeah, see you…” But the girl had already darted down the road.
Someone cleared their throat. Loudly. “Having fun?”
Jaxon was standing on the sidewalk behind her. He had an old jacket thrown across his clothes and his arms were crossed on his chest.
“Oh no,” she mumbled.

How was that??
Hmm. And how about those Golden Goblin Awards? *hint hint cough cough* Haha jk! I think it's too late anyway.

Hey Seneca. I loved this twist you put on here. I was wondering all this time why I didn't recognise names or anything. NOW I understand why. The time period was pre Harry Potter. My goodness what a twist to the story. So, is Lyre a sister to Lucius maybe? Oh my goodness! I've got so many things to ponder upon now. Her mother's journal, her mother's death and how it was her fault, and now, Tom Riddle, and how he will figure into this. Super good Seneca.

Thanks guys! Here's the next part!!

“What the bloody hell were you thinking?” Jaxon hissed. He looked around at the people walking around before he pulled her into a nearby alley.
“With your brothers still out.” he continued, his voice rising slightly. “You could’ve gotten yourself killed.”
“I’m not going to get myself killed.” Coralie stopped and gestured at the town around her. “My brothers, they’re not stupid enough to attack with this many people around.”
Jaxon clenched and unclenched his fist. “Maybe, but almost the entire road from here to Reyes is wooded. What if something had happened there? What if your brothers tried to hurt you there?”
“We don’t even know if they’re coming back!” Coralie snapped. “They could’ve packed their bags and disappeared to another country for all we know!”
“But, Coralie, you don’t know that.” he said in return.
“I know my brothers.” She hissed. “They may be on the run, but they’re smart. If they know what’s best for them then they wouldn’t try to come back.”
“It’s still dangerous.”
“How?” She challenged.
“Y-You don’t know anybody.” he stuttered, changing the subject.
“So? I’ll meet people. Just now I was talking to-”
“What?” Jaxon suddenly yelped. “You talked to someone? Who? What did you say? You didn’t mention anything about magic did you?” He glanced around nervously.
“Um… I met a girl named Lyra-”
“I know her.” He said, cutting Coralie off. “She’s a friend... and a witch. Now who else?” He asked urgently.
“Er… Someone named- Wait, Jaxon, why don’t you want me to say anything about magic?”
Jaxon took her hand and led her further down the alley.
“Coralie, this is a muggle town. There’s barely any witches or wizards around here. Lyra’s one of the few.”
“Oh.”
“Now who else?” he asked again more quietly.
“Tom Riddle.”
“See, he’s a muggle. If you would’ve said something-”
“But, I didn’t-”
“I know, but, Coralie, you need to be careful.” He put his hands on her shoulders. “Please. Just no talking about magic, no leaving the house without anyone knowing, and Just. Be. Careful.”

“Ok, fine. Can you let go of me?” she asked.
“What? Oh, yeah.” His hands fell back to his sides. “Wait, where are you going?”
But Coralie was already walking out of the alley. She turned right and disappeared, with Jaxon sprinting after her.

I'll try to post more soon!!!

Haha we'll see...
Hmmm. New post?

“Did you not just hear anything I said?”
“No, I heard you.” Said Coralie coolly. She looked in the window of one of the stores as Jaxon caught up.
“Then what are you doing?”
“Looking.” Not seeing anything of interest, the girl moved on to the next store.
“We have to go back.” Said Jaxon. “Reyes and Sage will be wanting to know you’re okay.” He grabbed her wrist, forcing her to turn around and face him.
“I know but-” She looked around desperately.
“You want to get out of the house, Coralie, I know that. You’ve spent all your life in a house… in a cellar… and you want to get out. I realize that, honestly I do, but you have to understand you’ll just have to wait a little longer.”
Hesitantly, Coralie nodded. “Fine.” she muttered.
“Thank you.” he sighed and guided her into another alley.
Jaxon glanced around and with a pop they disapparated.

Coralie stumbled as they appeared on the front porch to Reyes and Sage’s.
“You alright?” Jaxon asked with smile. He took her arm before she completely fell over.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” She said, pushing open the door.
When they were inside Jaxon called, “Hey guys I found her!”
There was a sudden explosion of footsteps and Coralie found herself being pulled into a tight hug.
“Thank god you’re okay.” whispered Sage. They broke apart and she held her at arms length. “You are okay, right?”
“Yes, I’m fine.”
“Where were you?”
Jaxon spoke up. “I found her wandering around Great Hangleton.”
“Great Hangleton? What were you thinking?” Barked an angry Reyes from behind her. “That was so stupid!”
“I know-” she muttered.
“You could have gotten lost!”

“I know-”
“You could have gotten hurt!”
“I know.” repeated Coralie impatiently.
Reyes’s dark eyebrows rose up his forehead. “You know…?”
Jaxon raised his hand. “I already yelled at her.” He admitted.
“Oh.” Well did you tell her about the muggles-”
“Yep.”
“-And how there’s not many wizards-”
“Yep.”
Reyes fell silent. He opened and closed his mouth several times as he looked between Coralie and Jaxon.
“Well then…” He said awkwardly and turned around to go back in the living room.
“Lunch anyone?” Sage asked suddenly.
“I could go for a sandwich.” Reyes grumbled over his shoulder. His wife rolled her eyes in return.
“Me too.” quipped Jaxon.
Sage took Coralie’s hand and led her into the kitchen. "Come on, then." she said.

Awkward silences. I didn't know what to say.

Hey Seneca, you're doing great. Love your new chapters. Can't take time to say anything else. Great job though. I've got some questions going around in my head, and when I get full Internet, I'll be able to make more worthy comments for you. I'll be watching for your next post.

Hey Seneca. I have wireless Internet, and for some reason, it isn't working. My husband went to the store and bought a 25 ft. cable and now to go online, I have to run that cord to the back of the house to my computer. So, to go anywhere from my computer on back to the back of the house you have to step up and over the stretched out cable. So, I don't stay on line very long for fear of someone tripping over the line.

Ohhh, I see. I'm sorry to hear about that, but thanks for still keeping up with my ff. It means a lot. That would be terrible if someone tripped so I completely understand.

Sorry guys, this took a while to write. I hope it's okay. :/ I'm sorry about the beginning and if it sounds kinda rushed.
Without further note, here's the next part.

The rest of that day went by pretty quietly. They ate, and Jaxon and Reyes finished the chess game Coralie had abandoned. Jaxon left before dinner to be with his family, and later when it got dark everyone went to bed.

Over the next few days, everything started to become a routine. Sage helped Coralie with her reading while Reyes went to work at the Ministry. In return, Coralie helped Sage with all of the housework. The two started to become close, and as every day went by, Sage acted more and more like an older sister. One day, Coralie got out her mother’s old journal, and together they were able to translate some of the recipes scribbled down in the back.
As Jaxon began to notice that Coralie was finally settling down, his visits became less seldom. They were reduced to about once or twice a week, but during that time, the two usually went out to Great Hangleton, where they either ran errands for Sage or Reyes, or met up with friends.
Coralie got to know Lyra better, and Jaxon even introduced her to some of the other kids and teenagers that lived nearby. She only saw Tom Riddle once, though, but she didn’t say anything to him, because he was with his girlfriend.
Coralie was happy to be out of the house, and she was out so often that some of the shop owners began to recognize her. They learnt her name fairly quickly. She was even lucky enough that one time Jaxon took her back to London.

It was the beginning of October, when fall was almost completely settled in, and the air was getting chilly. Coralie pulled her cardigan closer to her and looked around the crowded streets of London, where they had just apparated to. “Why are we here?”
She gripped Jaxon’s hand tightly as she moved aside to let some people pass by her.
“You’ll see.” He replied with a sly smile.
They walked for a little while, weaving in and out of muggles in the process. They passed by multiple shops and news stands before Jaxon finally spoke up.
“Sage told me you’ve been doing better with your reading.” He said calmly.
Coralie looked up and said kind of slowly, “Yeah, I guess so. Why?”
“I was visiting my Dad the other day at work, and I passed by a store you might be interested in seeing.” He said, smiling and crossing his arms casually.
“What kind of store?” She asked, her interest peaking.
Jaxon laughed, “A bookstore.” he said simply.
“A bookstore?”
“Yep.” He cast a sidelong glance at Coralie, and to his delight, she was smiling back at him.
“So where is this bookstore?” she asked.
He chuckled. “This way.” he said, guiding her onto Charing Cross Road.
The passed by a couple of shops, and before the conversation died down, Coralie spoke up. “Jaxon, I don’t have any money.”
“It’s okay.” He said casually. “We can still look around.”
The two stopped in front of an old two story building. Racks and racks of books were piled in the glass windows, and behind them, Coralie could see more in the room beyond.
“How big is this place?” She whispered.
“Told you you’d like it.” Jaxon grinned. He opened the door for her, a bell tingling overhead.
An old man popped his head around one of the shelves. His grey hair appeared to form a cloud around his head, and his beard was short and stubby. A smile spread across his wrinkled face as he moved from behind the shelve and welcomed the newcomers.
“Hello.” He said, wiping a pair of dirty hands on an even dirtier apron. “Have you two been here before.”
“No.” Said Jaxon. Coralie had already disappeared, weaving in and out of the shelves. “We’re just wanted to stop by and have a look around.”

“Ok.” He smiled. “My name’s Albert Edwards, if you need anything just shout. The newer books are up front, and the secondhands are back farther.”
“Thanks, Mr. Edwards.” Jaxon replied.
As the man returned to his work, Jaxon looked between the shelves for Coralie. She had run towards the back of the room, and finally, he found sitting at a small table.
“We’ve only been here for a couple of minutes.” He said, looking around at the pile of books already stacked both on and around the table.
“These were already here.” Coralie said innocently.
“Right.” He rolled his eyes. “What’d you find?” He pulled back a chair and straddled it.
“I don’t know.” She replied, handing him the paperback she was scanning over.
A Christmas Carol.” Jaxon’s brow furrowed. “Never heard of it.”
“Neither have I.” Coralie joked.
“Maybe it’s a song?” He flipped through some of the pages before throwing back onto the pile, hopeless.
“How about this one?” She handed him a frayed hardcover.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” He read aloud. “Addy might have this.” His dark eyes skimmed over the faded picture of a girl and a white rabbit. After a moment, he put it back.
“What books do you read?” Coralie asked.
Jaxon hesitated. “I think the last book I read was my school textbook.” He laughed. “Possibly Potions. Or was it Quidditch Through the Ages? Or it might have been Hogwarts, A History. I really don’t remember.”
Coralie laughed, then sighed, then leaned on her elbow. She absentmindedly traced her fingers along the title of another book. Jaxon stood up and browsed through some of the hardcovers on a shelf.
“Thank you, Jaxon. For bringing me here.” Coralie said suddenly.
The boy turned around. “No problem.” He said, a smile playing on his lips.
Coralie looked down at the book in front of her, the one she was tracing with her fingers. It was a red hardcover, with a golden title written in cursive. It was fairly small, and it seemed to be a children’s chapter book.
“How do you pronounce this?” She asked.
Jaxon came over and stood behind her. He placed his hands on the back of the chair before leaning over and squinting down at the cover.
A smile spread over his face as he said, “Cinderella.”

“You’ve heard of it?” She observed.
“Yes.” Jaxon admitted. “Addy used to make me ready this to her every night a couple of years ago.”

“What’s it about?”

“I don’t want to ruin the story for you.” He said slyly.
Coralie leaned back, so that she was looking up at him. Jaxon smiled back down, his hand brushing a few strands of hair away from her face.
“Do you want to get something for lunch?” he asked softly.
“Yeah sure.”
“Go ahead outside. I want to talk to the owner first.” He straightened and glanced around the shop as Coralie nodded and stood up to leave.

Erm. How was that?

Hey Seneca. What a delightful chapter!
Quote:
She only saw Tom Riddle once, though, but she didn’t say anything to him, because he was with his girlfriend.
If she's lucky she won't see him again. You write about Tom so casual. It feels so scary!

I'm glad Jaxon is showing her things slowly. If she reacted this way about a book store, think how she would react to a movie.

“A Christmas Carol.” Jaxon’s brow furrowed. “Never heard of it.”
I love that you picked this to be an example of things she might have been interested in.

I'm anxious to find out what this is about.

Great post Seneca. I'll be watching for your next.

I LOVE THIS! It's people like you who make the last HP book and movie seem like just the beginning. The story reminds me of Cinderella

I can't can't can't wait to hear more of it! I'm so hooked

And I'm hoping she might just get a job at the book shop

Hiya! I just wanna welcome you here!
Thank you SO much for reading my fanfic, and thanks for such a sweet comment! It means a lot to me to hear that.
I did have this kinda Cinderella thing going on in my head. Haha, I'm happy you picked up on that. And as for what happens next, you'll just have to wait and find out!
